[Q] HT Wildfire GPS Problem - Wildfire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi guys.
I flashed my HTC with CyanogenMod 7 for the HTC Wildfire V7.1.0.1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1143125 and when I finished, the GPS wasn't working.
I flashed the radio again, and still it's not working...
Any clue?

you can try this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447591

Try flashing Jacob kernal

Try this method, it helped me:

First install cm7 and then make a nandroid backup of it. Then wipe everything and restore the previous nandroid backup of stock froyo rom (or any rom with working gps) and use gps to capture your location. Then again wipe everything and restore the cm7 backup. Now gps will be working. And once gps on cm7 works, then even after a hard reset it still works. This seems to be an issue only when freshly installing cm7. This is definitely a safe method.

*make sure your battery is fully charged before updating radio*
1. download all 3 versions of radios to the phones sd card (place it in root map).
2. (download and) open ROMManager.
3. scroll down and go to >> All ClockwordMod Recoveries (next: CWM).
4. Downgrade your CWM to version: 2.5.0.7 (this is important because as far as I know it the only CWM version you can manually update radio version without getting an error).
5. After downgrading, scroll up and go to >> Reboot into recovery
6. clear dalvik chache
6. Install radio version 13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25 instead of 3.35.20.10
7. reboot phone, you will now have perfect working GPS, WIFI and Signals, if not, try other 2 radio versions. Mind that the GPS Icon changed.
8. Open ROMManager again and download and install latest version of CWM again.
When 3.35.19.25 works, you can reflash to 3.35.20.10. Most of the times GPS will still work and you have the updated radio as well.
Try this, helped to me

[Q]cyanogen installation time

Hello All,
currently my DHD is installing cyanogen 6.1 rc2
how long does this take?
it's been in recovery mode for 40 minutes
if this is too long, what should I do next?
It takes way too long, it should take 5-6 minutes.
Sent from The Galactic Empire using the Dark Side of The Force
i say remove battery.
put it back again..and turn ur phone on....
if it hasnt flashed correctly then reboot into hboot then to recovery and start again..but dont wipe battery now.. ok?
Didn't take that long, saying that was the first ROM I've installed so I can't be accurate on 'decent' install times.
odd...
I know for sure I permrooted correctly
I did NOT install HBoot
then performed these steps:
First Method (via Rom Manager)
Launch ROM Manager.
Optional: Choose the first option in the app, Flash ClockworkMod Recovery to update to the latest version.
Select the Download ROM option from the main menu in the ROM Manager.
Select the CyanogenMod option, and then choose the latest version of CyanogenMod from the menu.
Optional: When you select the latest version of CyanogenMod, check the Google Apps* option.
Once the ROM is finished downloading, it asks if you would like to Backup Existing ROM and Wipe Data and Cache.
If Superuser prompts for root permissions check to Remember and then Allow.
Your HTC Desire HD will now reboot into recovery, wipe data and cache, and then install CyanogenMod. When it's finished installing it will reboot into CyanogenMod.
though it did not request SU after the wipe data and cache checkboxes. is that normal?
I rebooted my phone and everything works as before, even my call log and messages are still intact
Go to the bootloader (reboot while holding vol-) and tell us if it says ENG S-OFF, SHIP S-OFF or SHIP S-ON.

You're right. I read prereqs... didn't mention visionary wasn't allowed as root/permroot method.
will uninstall and do it from scratch.
should I install hboot? it's mentioned as "not recommended" on the cyanogen site.
of corse it's not recomended because its a Kritical moment of modding.
Not to scare you but messing up hboot is like oke my phone is dead !!
But any way , you need a modded hboot , read and read how to.
if you fallow all step good your oke.

Follow this guide, and you will get the CyanogenMod in your phone in no time Not really necessary to install hboot if you use Radio S-OFF, which is safer.
It should only be taking 5-10 mins 15max never to 40 are you sure you have S-OFF?

[Q] Can't flash any gingerbread ROM

Hi
I'm trying to flash a gingerbread rom to my desire but I always end up being stuck on the HTC logo. I tried several ROMS( opendesire, modaco with sense and without, some more too but can't remember the names,... ) The only gingerbread ROM that installs is CM7, but i have market problems that annoy the hell out of me ( can't find certain apps, need to hack to install bigger apps ). A shame because i really like CM, but i want to compare with others
Any idea why gingerbread won't flash correctly. I have tried several froyo ROMS without any issues before, by the way
I have
BRAVO PVT1 SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.93.0001
RADIO-5.14.05.17
thx
ntdst
Did you remember to wipe your data between each different install?
That's the most common problem when you get stuck at boot.
i use rom-manager and always create a back-up and wipe.
I also tried with an empty SD-Card and repartioned it ( with rom-manager ). The results are always the same, every gingerbread rom gets stuck. I thought there was something wrong with the partitions or maybe i need s-off for gingerbread... ?
What version of CWM do you have? Did you update manually to the new radio for the GB Roms?

I'm using Rom Manager v4.2.0.2
It is possible that i flashed that radio with a previous modaco sense/froyo ROM.
should i first flash that one you mention and then try again?
Okay, Rom Manager Is not a recovery What's your recovery exactly?
And what ROMs do you try to flash?
AFAIK, you need to flash that first in order to get booted.
sorry clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 is current recovery
I really tried several ROMS
Modaco sense gingerbread
Modaco without sense
opendesire
oxygen
etc...
all and always stuck on HTC Logo except for CM7, that one works fine except for the market issues

I found this in one of the ROM threads.
So my suggestion:
First try to update the radio to the newest (alredy posted the link).
If that does not help, then try to update your recovery.
updating radio and flashing updates did not help
i'm still stuck when trying to install oxygen
I could use some help in updating my recovery. I f i do this with rom manager 2.5.0.7 is the most recent.
I seems there's a 2.5.1.2 out and 3.x.x.x is not advised. Is there an update zip somewhere to use?
People report that Insertcoin S v22 can be installed with 2.5.0.7
Make sure you do a full wipe in THE RECOVERY, not ROM Manager or any program.
Too boot into recovery hold down Power+Vol Down while phone is off.
There:
1. Wipe data/factory reset
2. Wipe cahce
3. Under advanced menu > Wipe dalvik-cache
Also make sure your SD card is partitioned right.
And for the update - you can only update your recovery if you are S-OFF or you use Unrevoked3 with a custom recovery image.
Grab a copy of Ubuntu and check that the apps2sd partition on your card is formatted correctly. I tried all ways of formatting and partitioning (via clockwork/rom manager) and it never formatted correctly and always caused HTC boot sticking.
If I completely reformatted SD and reflashed an older rom (like Leedroid 2.3) would then boot fine. I then used Rom Manager to repartition & format SD, boot ubuntu (live CD is enough - no install required) then reformatted partition to EXT4, flashed and worked fine.
Also, is 2.5.0.7 your TRUE recovery version? Turn your phone on with vol-down held then select recovery - does the version change to an older one? If this is the case you may need to re-root is (Unrevoked) to update your recovery version permanantly.
Hope that helps.
If you are S-off you can flash newest recovery using fastboot, this flash would be permanent!
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-bravo.img
i agree with TMSsecret,
the gingerbread ROMs i have used seem to need a more recent version of HBOOT. First time I tried to flash LeeDroid 3.0.2, it didnt work. Applied S-OFF (which updates your HBOOT during the process) and tried again, worked no worries. Also, if you're keen to install the latest ROMs, upgrade to clockworkmod recovery 3.x... It took me a few tries to get FASTBOOT working properly (possibly because my version of windows XP has had too long to decompose), but if you persevere, it will work.
The best way to make sure your ROM will work is a thorough research session. Not slagging you at all, just pointing out the obvious. Look up everything to do with your intended ROM and read the threads.

what is the best

which is the best custom rom 7.0.0 / 7.0.2 or 7.0.3? which is the best radio cause i understerstood that i need to flash the radio to make the gps work, please help
and a tutorial for flashing the radio?
If you are going to stick with a Stable version, go for 7.0.3. As for radio, there are 3 versions, one ending in 20.10, one ending in 19.25 and one with 15.31. It is recommended to flash the one with 19.25. It can be downloaded here:
http://rom.tat.tw/wildfire/wildpuzzlerom/radio/Radio_13.53.55.24H_3.35.19.25.zip
Flashing a Radio is same as flashing a ROM Zip file. Go to Recovery > Install Zip from SDCard and choose the above Zip. However, there are a few basic differences :
- Radio's can only be flashed in Clockworkmod 2.x. If you have followed the many tutorials around, you will probably have Clockworkmod 3.x, and wont be able to flash the Radio.
- To overcome this, when you install CM, you will have an app called ROM Manager. Open it, Click Install Clockworkmod Recovery inside the app. It will install v2.5
- Once install is complete, select Reboot into Recovery from within the ROM Manager app.You will then boot into Clockworkmod 2.5 and will be able to flash radios successfully.
Pointers for flashing a radio
- Make sure you have sufficient battery charge
- Do NOT interrupt the process at all. It's sensitive

My radio ends with 20.10 and GPS works just fine. Should I still flash the recommended radio? Do you have any idea what the differences are?
No, if GPS works fine, leave it. Flashing radios should be avoided really, unless absolutely necessary.

Anyway realize that u have the latest radio and u r thinking of flashing a previous radio.
Flashing radio is not recommended unless u have issues with it. It has the potential of bricking the phone when interrupted. Radio has the secure flag.
The wildfires which has been rooted after alpharevX must be having radio ending with 20.10 because they are made s-off from stock froyo AFAIK. In such case when no issues, donot reflash the radio.

GPS is not working after S-OFF

Hi to all, yesterday I put my WF into S-OFF, i had HBOOT 0.80,i had to install RUU,downgrade... i changed splash image and i installed CM7.1 RC1 and the gps is not working, i tried to flash lastest radio and Hcdrjacob 4.1 kernel but i have CWM 4.0.1.4 so icant flash, what shoul i do to restore the gps?
THX
This is a common problem with CM7.
1) Perform a nandroid backup of your previous rom.
2) Flash a stock rom ( it doesn't matter what one; as long as it is working ). - http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...45.55.24_3.35.15.31_release_142213_signed.exe
3) Then your going to need to go to Google Maps and activate GPS - let it find you ( wait 15-60 seconds outside ).
4) Once it has a fix on you, restore your previous CM7 ROM using nandroid and GPS should work.
5) If that doesn't work, flash CM7.0.3; the stable build.
Note: Flashing a new radio/kernel will most likely not sort out this problem.

ill try when i arrive home, now im at work and i dont have the cable here to install official, i have to say before S-OFF i had CM 7.1 CR1 with no problems
by installing a RUU will i lost all the recovery and s-off?
S-OFF, No. Custom Recovery - Yes.
Alternatively, you can try a Safe Flash RUU Zip, if you want to keep the Custom Recovery intact:

[Q] Latest radio on Wildfire but GPS still do not work :(

Hello.
Well, i have read NOW WORKING - Alpharevx + Clockwork + CM7 + Radio/GPS Fix.
Did that - nothing happen.
I have:
HTC Wildfire
Android Verison: 2.3.7
Mod version: CyanogenMod 7.1.0.1-buzz
Radio Version: 3.35.20.10
I have tried all - but GPS icon doesn't appear, try GPS Essenstials (all the time just: no fix, network location disabled).
Nothing happens in Google maps or iGO.
Help needed!!!
Thanks in advance for all the help!
Take a nandroid backup of your cm7, then flash a sense rom which has gps working download google maps turn on gps and let it get a fix. Don't touch any settings after this..
Leave it for a few minutes and then restore your nandroid backup.
I haven't personally tested this way myself so don't know if it'll work but have read of others doing it this way with success.
Confirmed. It worked for me + this is the safest way to fix it, no messing with the radios, terminal emulator etc.

Does anyone have suggestion which sense?
Any. It can be your stock ROM nandroid backup also. (Assuming you had taken one). If not, the Stock Sense ROM is a good idea:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=877977
Sorry for late response.
Well i have try to load:
multiupload.com/JSAWVUC88O
but all i get is Installation aborted. I did signature toogle etc but everytime unable to install. It has just wiped out my contacts and sms messages.
Any other ideas? =)
Are you sure you are using Clockworkmod 2.x to flash that? Also try a redownload. If it didn't flash, it can't erase anything on your phone (Unless you did a Wipe data / Factory Reset, THAT will erase contacts / messages. Not a failed ROM flash)
Well i have Rom Manager v4.5.0.1 (Flash clockworkMod Recovery 5.0.2.0)
Well i can find in All clockworkmod Recoveries versions like:
* 3.0.0.6
* 2.5.1.4
* 2.5.1.3
etc
* 5.0.0.8
* 5.0.1.0
Thats all =)
Guide me please =)
Anything starting with 2.x will work. Here's another way:
- Download this attachment (update1.zip) and place on your SDCard
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=662193&d=1311319218
- Then reboot in Clockworkmod Recovery (5.0.2.0) or any version you are having at the moment
- Choose Install Zip from SDCard, then, Choose Zip from SDCard, then select the update1.zip file, it will flash it (Just like a ROM flash)
- It will reboot your phone and will give you temporary Clockworkmod 2.5.0.7 (Green Text)
- Here, now select 'Wipe Data / Factory Reset', and again select 'Install Zip from SDCard' > 'Choose Zip', and select the Froyo ROM Zip file. It should install now.
BTW, Try reflashing the radio before doing this. I doubt you reflashed the Radio if you are not aware of this. Radio's also need Clockworkmod 2.x. If reflashing the radio doesn't work, then you can follow what I wrote above.
Well i have downloaded from wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Wildfire:_Support_Downloads last version .31 and install it so i think a have latest one.
But ok - i will try later also your way and we will see.
What will it happen if i will try to downgrade radio to 3.35.19.25? Will be the same or it will damage something?
No, there shouldn't be any issues downgrading a radio.
@3xeno - ok, now i have Froyo ROM running. OK, GPS works. =)
Now, how can i go back to CyanogenMod? Or can't go back? Because I do like CyanogenMod but i hate that GPS doesn't work.
Thanks for all your help.
Keep GPS running after it gets a fix, and upgrade to Cyanogenmod again, as you had done previously (Don't turn off GPS/change any settings). This time, GPS should work on Cyanogenmod. Refer the 2nd post in this thread.
hm... strange.. - had the same issue after reinstalling CM. reflashing new radio (actually the same 3.35.20.10 from the CM official page like is in installation package) helped and everything works now. So, I repeat, - install CM7, and after that download latest radio from the CM webpage and flash it like 3xeno wrote in the beginning. Restart and whuollah..) -works in my case... No need to install Froyo, stock HTC and blablabla
Uff, finally!!!
Thanks @3xeno and for all the help! I have started in Froyo iGO, load backup in ROM Manager and now GPS signal is working!
Thanks for all the help again!
And thanks @doofos for reply.
Wuiiii =)
- take my congratulations. And, may be it'll help somebody else, (it is not a new thing - like read the FAQ, but anyway) - don't forget to perform those things before flashing new CM :
- wipe data/factory
- wipe cache partition
- mounts and storage -> format system -especially(realized it on my experience, -in that case GPS started work from-the-box

I have the same problem which is being discussed above..
Can I reflash the radio using CWM 5.x.x.??
My radio is 3.35.15.31
It was the default radio which came when put CM7 in my wildfire..
Or do u recommend upgrading the radio to 3.35.20.10
Pls help..
You can't flash radios on anything that's 3.0+
You can use the .zip I attached in the attachment to gain a "temporary" 2.5 recovery, that goes away once you reboot.
N what about updating my radio..??
what do u suggest..?? Should i update from 3.35.15.31 to 3.35.20.10..??
N also do i need to do a complete wipe before flashing a new radio..??
Can u guide me to a link which completely describes "how to flash a new radio"..??
Thnxx in advance..!!

I flashed 3.35.20.10
Everything is working fine now..!!
