Hey guys, got a question. Has anyone run into the issue of their data randomly getting stuck, with just the upload arrow illuminated? When I'm using the hotspot feature, this happens much more frequently.
Thoughts?
Dunno about a fix, but you're not alone. Happens to me all the time.

Yes! Wow I haven't seen anyone else mention this, but yeah I get the same bug on rare occasion.... quite rare.
Fix is to toggle airplane mode as this resets the radio. Juggernaut statusbar toggles ftw.

Yeah, I switch between "GSM/WCDMA" and "WCDMA only" when this happens. It's a real pain. I downloaded a 2.1-2.2GB program while I was at 4.44GB used and T-Mobile said I used about 30 megs as far as they know...seems to happen more when I get closer to 5 gigs, I dunno, maybe they're onto me xP

Leave network settings in auto mode and try enabling and disabling airplane mode. This always fixes it for me. I have encountered this bug on multiple devices after tethering. Happens less on the t989 because tethering is native (probably).

You get less disconnects using airplane mode as a fix? Interesting...it's always affected me no matter what pretty much
This happens all the time.. I've always thought it was quite curious.. seems like some "uploading" going on, don't like it at all..

I've never had it as a frequent bug... very rarely. Airplane mode just resets the radio.

I've had this happen to my T-mo SGII and Sensation...just stuck in upload and any other data requests (Web, email...) are null when this is occurring.
I wonder if T-mobile is probing our phones for information when this happens?
Either way, it is annoying and toggling airplane or data seems to solve...tho I've had it go right back to doing that today after toggling...

That won't fix the problem that OP is having. Search for what was mentioned, there is something coded by default that causes WiFi to basically get choked down to almost nothing when the phone is sleeping. It stays on, but the speeds go to ****.

Thank you for contributing instead of just condescending.
My first response is always the obvious fix, especially when something simple like streaming music over wifi is cited... You'd be surprised how many problems are fixed like that.
However I still haven't experienced that problem, but the OP wasn't specific enough to start eliminating possibilities and jump to a bug as the reason

I am also having this issue, Verizon GN.
Reading that linked thread a little earlier, it does seem to indicate that the new setting "WIFI PERFORMANCE FULL/HIGH" is not properly modified by apps, be they winamp or tune in (the two I have tried).
As a result, I too was getting drop outs at the time my device went to sleep. Most often the radio would pick up again after 10 seconds and continue to operate normally, but sometimes there would just be CONSTANT buffering/drop outs - noticed this more with tune in radio (tried various stations).
I am trying out the 'wifi high performance' app also linked earlier. Knock on wood, it seems to helping so far. I do have a question about it, the app (1x1) square just pulls up a screen with a checkbox for the wireless network correct? There is also a widget (2x2) which doesnt seem to ever show up on your home/main screens even though you manually put it there however many times.
Seems like the widget is not working, when pinging im getting atrocious times and still getting the drop offs... thought it might have been fixed but now trying in tune app and having constant issues.
Is there any solution? This means I cant stream radio over wifi ever??? WTH
ive never experienced this. ive downloaded roms while its asleep. radio streaming no problem. im on the sprint gnex....
Guys, see this topic and thread about the widget not staying on the screen, and about the size issue.

Got my sgs3 Sunday and when I got home turned on WiFi and started playing with it I notice that I lose network for a second after about 15 mins and my WiFi icon on the status bar disappear but network comes back on .. but in settings it is greyed out and I can't turn it off then back on till I reboot 0_o...thought maybe after I rooted and flash AOKP it would be fixed but no! I'm on T-Mobile and AOKP..so is it a bad WiFi driver or...? Any ideas?
#*0011# press the menu key. Select wifi. uncheck wifi power saver mode. Its should be green when on black off. Make sure its not on and done go back to home screen. Your phone should reboot the wifi driver and your done.
This method works for 4.0.4 any of the roms. Cm10 doesn't work. Cm9 haven't tried but I'm sure it'll work for u.

Cuz if you are that's normal on every reboot you have to go back and turn it off again.

would the method above work for me? since yesterday, my wifi kept turning on by itself. After I turned the wifi off for like a couple minutes then it'll turn on automatically again. I have the Keep Wifi on during sleep set as "only when plugged in" and it never happen to be before until yesterday. My power saving in the setting menu has always been off too. Please help! :crying::crying:
Install the app called "Wifi Fixer" app to the solve the issue.
Whatever Google did to cause a variety of wakelock problems, having a strong wifi signal seems to solve them. Apparently, wakelocks occur when there are unreliable connections to Google's servers.

Check that.
I found something saying AT&T Smart Wi-Fi was the problem.. I disabled that and haven't had a single issue since. I started noticing the issue after a recent update, and I think AT&T Smart Wi-Fi was pushed during that.
I dont have that installed. Debloated with tb
That's weird. I'm on stock ROM and just started noticing that. I'm probably not much help, I'm a recent convert to Android. What is TB? Do you have to be rooted for TB?
Titanium backup. Yes root required to debloat
I'm going to be in a GSM country for a while, and I'm bringing my SIII cuz it's a capable little tablet computer. I wish to disable the cellular radio completely because there aren't going to be any CDMA signals around and it'll kill the battery looking at full power (I'd think).
Is there a way to disable cellular while leaving the wifi antenna up? I imagined it'd be simple, but I'm finding it hard to even search for. Usually people just want to disable the mobile data and leave voice up for sms or whatever.

I would assume he still wants to connect to Wifi.
I haven't heard of any Mods or settings that completely turn off the radio (data and phone/text). I'll keep my eyes open, though.
Turn on Airplane Mode which shuts off everything, then turn on the Wifi by itself. Used it in Europe that way without a problem.

Ah, I didn't know this worked. Back on my old Evo, once airplane mode was on, Wifi couldn't be turned on. It looks like they've improved the airplane mode functionality in the last 2-3 years.

After looking all night I found a thread that fixed this. You have two choices really to fix or buy your router which I'm not going to do, or you can type in on your dial pad *#0011#. Then you click your menu button, click on the wifi option, and then disable the energy saver wifi mode. That made it so my phone wouldn't drop wifi connection anymore. NOTE: each time you restart your phone you need to turn the wifi energy saver off through the command *#0011#. Hope I helped some of you because this bug is truly annoying.

That stinks. I don't have any problem and I think this is only the 2nd time I've seen anything posted like this about the S4 (the S3 did have that issue and was common). I've never turned off any energy saver and mine stays connected 100% of the time. So you're saying either that or you have to buy a new router? What kind do you have now and what settings on it did you find out that cause this issue for you?
Right now I have whatever Verizon gives fios customers. It works perfectly for all my phones, tablets, and computer. Just not on my s4 unless I do the dial pad trick. I'll post a link on the xda thread when I get home on how to fix your router. It really does make me angry that I paid 600 for the phone and it does this. Hopefully Samsung fixes this soon since they acknowledge the problem
