everytime i try to boot recovery from rom manager or try and install a new rom from rom manager it restarts then i get a download image with a status bar at the bottom, it goes almost half way then stops. it never moves. i usually have to remove the battery. how do i fix this? am i doing something wrong?
Just use CWM manually. Rom manager is buggy...

Yea just put ur rom (zip) on the root of ur sd card. Boot into recover. Wipe data and cache then flash ur rom. Personally i have never had an issue using rom manager.

Is the paid version buggy too? I'm having issues with mine too... I don't mind doing the "three finger dance" but the convenience of Rom Manager is nice, esp when I update my CM7 nightlies. I can't justify paying 5.99 for a "buggy" app.

ooooooh, I didn't know that about term emulator, that's pretty cool. Well now that I think about it, why wouldn't term emulator be able to so that... just gotta know how. Thanks "Big RON" *Martin Lawrence voice*
The issue I'm having is when I go to back up from rom manager, it takes me to the recovery screen with the box and little android Guy but nothing happens. I end up having to pull my battery and just manually going to cwm.

Yeah it was easy. I just prefer terminal over adb. Mainly cause adb reminds me of root and root reminds me of bricks lol. Never bricked anything except a window but I still dread it lol.

I don't know if the stock android browser supports it, but in Dolphin Browser or Opera you can download any type of file. You can use something like file expert to open the zip file.

I've never experienced any issues downloading any files, let alone zip files, using multiple browsers. I'm currently using a blacked out version of Dolphin mini (ty Starsky's rom) and have yet to have an issue still. I usually use Root Explorer to move the file to the folder of my choice, and I guess roms take a bit longer than most files (size) but never any issues. Good luck!

What ROM are you on?
I think it's the file host some of the rom devs use, or possibly his router. For certain roms, downloading over wifi fails no matter what I do, and I end up using 3G.(unlimited plan, 150mb is nothing)

hey,
well title says it all, i got directed to come to xda for help. ive had smartphones but never have done or seen a phone rooted. i just picked up the gs2 coming from sensation and my hotspot is now locked down to having to pay 15 a month. was told by rooting you pickup free hotspot and sometimes paid apps. can someone provide me with download links and instructions step by step so i dont mess up my phone. thanks in advance.
ps its the t989 gs2
also i wwant to delete all these garbage bloatware apps always running to
Check the stickies in the general section. i think there's a thread in the development section too.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Just a heads up. Its against the forum rules to ask for paid apps for free. Not trying to be a jerk or anything.
I found that the method mentioned in the stickies in the Dev section pretty clear and straightforward, its noob friendly unlike the MTG4G which are a great mess. Once rooted, install titanium backup and freeze/delete the tethering manager app and you should be able to tether for free. You can get free apps while being on stock........
The link for free apps is in there somewhere, find it
I thought he meant he can now use paid apps that require root... Ahem right?

Go to the dev section. Download a rom. Flash it in recovery.

Here it is
To flash the kernel:
-Boot into recovery
-Wipe Cache
-Advanced -> Wipe Dalvik Cache
-Install zip from SD Card
-Reboot and let it sit for a few minutes for the OS to load up completely (about 5 minutes should suffice)
-Reboot once more and install SetCPU which can be found in the Market for $1.99 or free here
Once installed open it up and AutoDetect Speeds and then select form the drop down menu SmartassV2 and you should be set
Did you find the ICS theme?
im sorry im new to this... did first root and flash yesterday...i did odiin then flashed the file on juggernaut in dev section.... to i need to do this kernel to? or is it just like a add on to go with it? also whats a good overclock setting?
A kernel is pretty much the main computing core of an operating system. If you're using the one that came with Jug's rom, you will experience some lag and random reboots. Eugenes kernel gives you better performance and battery life (if you wanna think about it that way). Just flash it, you wont regret it.
It's not hard at all either, pretty much the same process as flashing a ROM but instead you flash another zip file.
do i only need to wipe those cache? and not a full wipe as when i flashed the rom?

Correct. Wipe cache and dalvik cache, reboot then wait like 5-10 mins then reboot again
If the only thing you wabt to do is tether, then (only if u jave a 5gig or more plan) you can call tmo and they have a promotion going on right now that will give u tethering for free. Just give them a call, in the auto system say plans, then hit 0 and tell the rep about the promotion.

When he can just switch the APN?
Im on CM9 Kang, also on the kernal that came with it. My apps auto update, and so I see gmail and quickpic updating. But it was kinda odd because it was still downloading the updates 3 hours later(wifi not being the problem). I even tried downloading angry birds, and it was stuck on "starting download". I have like 6 apps that are waiting in queue for updating, but its just sits there. Amazon market works perfect, so its something wrong with the play store im assuming. Anyone know a fix for this?
Its in most of the posts regarding cm9 and aokp, open terminal emulator, type su hit enter then type killall drmserver

Galaxy SIII Task Manager
Updated 07/15 - Updated/Signed/Zipalign'd APK - Rehosted -
#INSTALL AT YOUR OWN RISK - I ASSUME NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY MALFUNCTIONS#
#PLEASE FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY#
#ICS ONLY#
Ladies and Gentleman,
I present to you a working port of the Galaxy SIII's Task Manager. It's not much different than the T989's stock, but it looks better and seems to perform better.
WILL NOT WORK WITH:
Stock mods such as InFamous or Darkside. Generally, anything that came with the SII's task manager preinstalled.
With these ROMs it installs but will not close apps or clear memory for some reason. Still working on finding cause.
Works with:
AOKP, AOPK, CWM9 Nightlies, Vanilla, and all mods of these.
Prereq:
Must be rooted
Must be running ICS
You might need Root Explorer of the first installation method does not work
Installation:
1.) Download SIII Task Manager Signed/Zipaligned APK
2.) Install like any other APK.
3.) Reboot
4.) Press+hold home button it should have a task manager button at the bottom. If not it should be in your application list.
Optional Installation (if above doesn't work)
1.) Use Root Explorer and mount R/O
2.) Move APK file to system/app
3.) Rename to TaskManager.apk
4.) Set Permissions as rw-r--r--
XXO
XOO
XOO
5.) Reboot
6.) Press+hold home button it should have a task manager button at the bottom. If not it should be in your application list.
This new port was done by me directly from my SIII.

it does indeed work on DSv7 just installed no freezing either follow instructions and you should be fine, be sure to change the original jobmanager file extention to .bak you dont have to remove it, then import the gs3 apk
Sent from my GT-P7510 using xda premium
You might experience a slight battery drain issue or apps not closing upon End Task being pressed on certain builds. If that happens, you can delete the JobManager.apk and rename the old JobManager.bak to Jobmanager.apk and reboot.
Still determining the cause, but on AOKP and CM9 Nightly this works fine. It seems to only affect InFamous at this time. I couldn't duplicate the error in Darkside3v7.
I'll come back with a fix. And it only happens every *now* and then and rebooting fixes it. Just enough annoying to be considered a bug.

Can you, or anyone having this issue, run Darkside cache wipe from recovery, come back and let me know if it fixed it?
I think it may be a cache issue of old data from the older version. With AOKP/AOSP/CM9 there is are no versions installed by default therefore its not running into any issues on those ROMs, just certain times on InFamous so far. I don't have my Dev T989 with me or I would test it post darkside cache wipe myself.
