First nexus had a charging port issue...Verizon sent me a refurbished one..Second phone had the lower section of screen sunk in and soft keys not responding to touch...third phone received today wouldn't call out or take calls but data was working..went straight to where i bought it tried 2 new sim cards level 2 tech support with employee......to find out if you go through 3 phones you can receive a new one that's what they did for me.....how can Verizon send these refurbished phones out when there supposed to meet regulations a pass a certain requirement before releasing these?...wow

The soft keys on my Nexus doesn't seem to be responding too well. Turning on the "Show touches" under developer options indicate that the touch area of the screen where the soft keys are is not as accurate as the rest of the screen.

i know..i had Motorola Droid,Droid x,and x2...then just went Samsung i waited for this phone for months...this phone is the best i think....its the Verizon inspection dept that stinks releasing phones not being fully inspected and tested..lol...

If you go to developer options and click on show touches, you can see that the touch response near the bottom edge of the screen (where the softkeys are) is less as accurate as the response on the other parts of the screen. This is not a software issue related to the softkeys because if you go to the browser and rotate so that the softkeys are near the earpiece, the same inaccurate response issue can be seen.
Anyone else have this problem?

The second phone i received from Verizon was refurbished the screen was not flush with the case almost as if the screen was sunken in more then the top half..i should have been more specific ..they took it back though..so. i was happy

You see this only on your third device? For me, the touchscreen is less sensitive when it is close to the edge of the screen (near soft key area).
I wonder if i have a faulty device or if that's the way the hardware was implemented

I noticed an issue with the screen of the galaxy nexus.
-It seems that it does not regester the touch of my finger as good as my nexus s. " once you touch the nexus s screen very lightly you see a direct response. In the GN the light touches does not regester. Is that normal??
-Another way to test for it is using a stylus... the nexus s works perfectly with the stylus touch. In the GN you have to push slightly for the touch to register.
Finally.. when touching the keyboard very slowly... the button does not register no matter how hard you press. weird!
Have any one noticed this issue?

I know what I'm talking about!!. what I meant is: you need a larger surface area of your finger to touch the screen for it to register the touch.
there is a significant sensitivity difference between the GN & the nexus s

Personally, my nexus allows me to barely touch the screen to register. BUT, in past experience with capacitive screens, when my fingers were particularly dry the screen wouldn't register unless I put more finger surface down. I do a lot of wood working and all the saw dust really sucks the moisture out. Now, whether its the lack of moisture, or the capacitance between my dry static-y finger and the screen surface making mini lightening bolts, I don't know, but there was a big difference

This could be due to the fact your not holding the phone in your hand while interacting with the touchscreen, on nexus ones the touch screen/capactive buttons didn't work too well when the phone was placed on a desk and interacted with.

I have seen the same issue as the op, it is especially noticeable on the system soft keys where they require more finger surface area before they register the touch. The worst offender is the three dot menu key in the soft key area.
Hope they tweak the screen sensitivity a bit.

It also happens when I'm holding the device in my hand. I noticed that the lower screen is less sensitive than the upper part.
me too can confirm this issue.... it's like in the posted video:

you can verify in dev setting on the option that show you touch screen coordinate when you touch.... on the bottom of the screen you can see 'PRS' value (pression): try to touch so light you can the screen, you will never see number lower than 0,26/0,27 values.... now, if you can, try out on nexus s on other phone you have... you will see a very lower number. Lower is the number, better is the touchscreen sensibility.
and..... i know the difference beetwin capacitive and resistive touch..... soo, why can appen this issue to a capacitive one!?!?
p.s. i think this could be a software/driver isseu..... then could bee adjusted by a dev

To add to this. Overall theGnex touch screen is excellent. The driver seems to be configured to reject touches that are under a certain level of "distinction". If you slowly touch the screen and slowly spread the area of your finger skin over the screen, the touch is rejected. Generally it has stopped some inadvertant brushes, however if using the phone in bed holding it with one hand, it can be hard to use the touch since it can be hard in certain positions to be a bit "snappy" with your touch. It definitely seems intended.

you can try this app too it can change the sensitivity, minimum motion and duration to register touch. i have it installed and it does make the touchscreen quicker and more accurate for me. Need root for this one.

It seems you can edit the touch screen driver in the kernel for the Galaxy S2 and improve the sensitivity.
It has to be some sort of setting to ignore slow touches.
We have to find the equivalent driver code for the nexus. But definitely interested in this, looks like the solution we need.

Yeah i can confirm this!
My Nexus is D1 production (jan 2013) and i noted that in general bottom part is less sensitive than upper part!! Quite obvious in the corners and the nav bar. It is not linked to accidentally hit buttons, because you can try to rotate and that part will always be less sensitive.
Even in the upper part, my s2 is far more sensitive than this!
I hope it can be tweaked via software, but I smell crappy hardware here (Samsung Samsung....) because I already returned two devices.
Now that i know someone else noted it, I feel less crazy

S Pen clicking even when not placed screen?
Is anyone having this problem where even when you're hovering the pen at a distance above the screen, it still clicks the screen?
It happens to me not often, but when it does, it's annoying and can completely mess up what im trying to do.
Just wondering whether my device is faulty, a system bug, or I'm not doing it right. -_-

I've solved the problem already.
Turns out it's a faulty SPen. Went to the store and they gave a brand new replacement pen. Works flawlessly now.

Sounds like a dodgy button on the pen.
Got nothing to do with the pen button. It clicks the screen when just hovering the screen.

I had the same problem but I am lazy and did not want to go to the shop and explain the problem to get a new pen. Instead I tried to hit the side of the pen against the table edge a couple of times and I have not experienced any problems with the pen since.
Why not. I'd rather spend the time to get a properly functioning pen, than using a quick fix which might break again in the future.

Thank God I found a thread on this! You are lucky to get a new s pen. I don't think stores here in India accept to replace it. Where did you buy the phone? Also, it was working good for the initial couple days and it started all of a sudden. Don't you think it can be a software glitch that can be rectified via an update?
Just hit the side of Pen by any solid surface (wall) strongly, be careful about the button's side. that is all!
This way helped me to solve my S-Pen problem
I had the same problem with you, since first use. I went back to the shop and they replaced the whole package phone plus S-pen. Now it's all in order.

Here is the solution. I tried tapping behind the S Pen button and it solved.

But I would like to get the auto selection mode again, dont know how. Per the above link, looks like if I counter-clockwise move the screw, it can again become hyper sensitive.
A possible (more permanent) solution
This is a solution to the infamous S-Pen hover/pressing problem (where it will register a press when it's not touching the screen!)
I tried turning off air view, tried tapping and moving the pressure sensor tip... nothing seemed to fix it properly .. nothing except adjusting the potentiometers in the s-pen
The rough guide:
1. Remove the button from the s-pen (a sharp blade in the middle and levering up should do remove it but be careful it doesn't fly off somewhere unknown!.
2. Adjust the potentiometer (variable resistor) closest to the stylus tip (the writing bit). Turn it clockwise to make it less sensitive and CCW to increase it. A few degrees should be enough.
3. Replace the button - put the tongue side in towards the stylus tip and then rest the button on the stylus. Press the raised end towards the tip and down.
Test (actually you might want to test it before you do step 3!)
A big thanks to kevie88 on YouTube for suggesting it in a comment - a quick web search seemed to confirm it. I made a how to video that might help someone.
I called Samsung support and they are sending me a new s-pen anyway so I thought the above method was worth a go
Mine was really over sensitive put of the box so I tapped it on the coffee table a couple of times and it now works perfectly.

I got Samsung Galaxy Note II since a week now and I noticed that the s-pen does not register the weakest (lightest) touch, like when I'm gliding with the pen over the screen (the pen's tip is touching the screen but barely). I'm used to very light touch, so when I'm drawing a line sometimes it does not register at all or there is some part of it missing.
Is this normal? Maybe I just need to learn to press it a bit harder. I found a lot theads about s-pen being too sensitive, maybe I need to calibrate it but the other way? Also I found some threads with the same question but no answer.

You can adjust the sensitivity by popping off the button on the side of the pen and turning the screw below it. Keep in mind that the way the s pen detects a touch is when the nib on the end is pushed in, so depending on how light you use it, increasing the sensitivity too much might cause false positives (registering touches when to pen isn't touching the screen)

You can still try adjusting the sensitivity, you might be able to find a sweet spot that works just right for you.

I have:
1) Tmobile S4 (M919) White
2) Galaxy Tab™ Conductive Stylus ($19.99 now)
3) OEM wireless charger back cover
4) MIME ghost glass version 2
5) Spigen Neo Case
Using finger, the screen and soft button work all the time.
Using Stylus on the screen works all the time.
But there is a problem on "soft button" with "stylus"
1) sometime the stylus works with "soft button", but sometime won't.
2) sometime it works for 15mins or less then stop working on "soft button"
3. in order to have it working again, i have to turn the screen off then on. (but not 100% will bring it back to works)
I also tried with an aftermarket capacitive stylus that it used to works with my ipad 1, the same thing happened.
Do anyone have any idea about this? any physic behind this? thannk you.
The soft buttons aren't meant to be used with a stylus. Unless you have the galaxy note 8, then you are out of luck. The stylus is functional on the screen but not the capacitive buttons..

But how come it does work sometime? 99% of time it will get back to work after the screen off and on?
Works fine for me every time. And I have a 99 cent stylus

Ah, no i haven't. That might be your issue. The stuff on the tip of the stylus might not be strong enough to reach the capacitive buttons as the screen uses a different sensitivity level.

yeah, that's what i thought too. but it does work for few minutes after the screen on, so it's hard to conclude that the issue is solely caused by the screen protector. Maybe the sensitivity level on the "soft botton" is decreasing over time, has more sensitive right after it turned on.

Go into your display settings and check the box next to High touch sensitivity.. see if that helps the sensitivity issue

I tried it, but it makes no difference, maybe it's for the screen only?
But if i am lucky, i can bring it back to works for once if i keep tapping it with 2x more force. what i mean is, it will works on one tap after i tapped it for more then 10 times.
maybe the heat accumulated between the "soft button" and the screen protector is causing the reduction in sensitivity.

I have the Nexus 7 FHD 32gb model, and as of late my patience for the device has been wearing thin. There seem to be strange responses to the touch screen where certain zones have no response, or some times the touch and hold gesture glitches and upon lifting my finger the screen will respond as if I'm still holding my finger down. I also enjoy drawing with my new tablet, but here lies a problem as well. The problem seems to only be persistent when in vertical orientation, upon switching to horizontal the screen seems to respond slightly better but still misses a few finger taps here and there. I'm on the newest OTA available, have little problems beyond that. If possible, can this be resolved via software? I do have knowledge of rooting, and if the required fix for the time being is to run a custom rom so be it.
