Hi guys,
I would like to know which radio is best to use with rogers/ Fido network. I presently use UGKL1 and I'm not that impressed. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

I'm on fido and have the UGKL1 as well and find it much better than the one I had on my Samsung Galaxy S Vibrant. I have signal where I didn't before. i.e my 3rd level parking spot now has signal when I didn't before on the other phone... I'll try out some other radios and tell you if any are better...
Thanks I appreciated!

UGKL1 and UGKK7 work well. KL1 seems to be slightly better but its hard to say

There are too many variables for you to determine which radio is best for you, by basing it on other people's experiences.
This is only a partial list of factors that could vary between you and the person posting their thoughts:
location;
weather;
geography (e.g., obstacles, buildings);
proximity to cell tower;
network congestion;
etc.
The best way to see which radio is "the best" for you is to try each one out. And not for an hour. Try each one out for a couple of days and see what the difference is -- in real life I mean, not in speedtest.com
Sounds like great advice. Thank you!

Why do people make this thread every week, even tho the old ones are still there?
There's no perfect radio. Try the latest ones and see what works for you. I'm on XXLA2.
I got my GNex a grand total of 3 days ago and can tell you from my expert knowledge that the LA2 radio works very well on TMo.
Yeah dat.
there is no best radio because everybody lives in different parts of the world.
one radio may be good in one area whereas it may not be as good in a part of the world that YOU live in.
Hello,
So im having a bit of an issue and hoping someone can help. I gave an unlocked galaxy s2 t989d to a friend in the us to use on att. Data was not working so i entered the correct apn values and it works great. For some reason though, the phone jumps onto the tmobile network randomly sometimes even while in an att service area.
So my question, is there any way to stop it from going to tmobile? I want it to stay on att.
Thanks for any help!

Does it happen in any area or typically their home area? It could be several factors that cause this...is the phone rooted?
sent from my T989 full of CM awesomeness and a touch of Venom from the Darkside!!
It happens when she is at home. She has weak signal in her basement and the data drops down to edge. It then will briefly jump over to tmobile and say roaming then go back to att.
Any ideas?

well she's in a basement first and foremost, some basements can cause that. Thats normal, if the signal coming into the home isn't that strong in that area of the house, then thats normal and in reality there isn't much you can do about that. However, you can try to flash a different radio. I've heard good things about the blaze 4g radio (uvlf4) in some areas, and the galaxy notes radio (uvlg3) for others. I personally get the best signal off of uvle1 (tmo ics radio). Try those other two out and see if it improves. But if its only that one area, then that could be the culprit, and that unfortunately is something nobody can really do anything about. I had an apartment that was like that once, couldn't get anything useful out of my cell unless i was on wifi.
worse case scenario she can install a home repeater for AWS 1700/2100
http://www.wilsonelectronics.com/ProductDetails.aspx?Product=155&title=AWS+70+(802365)&Category=11
it has been tested and it really works, luckily i have no needs for that, but I've always planned to install one for my Car when i drive to poor reception areas
Thanks for the help!
I will try flashing a new radio when i grt the chance and see if that helps. I figured it was just an issue because of the low reception. I just did not want her to incur any roaming charges or anything so i figured i would see if someone had an idea.

So i have decided to try out the stock tmobile 4.0.4 rom with the tmobile radio that comes stock. One question, csn i flash the odin of stock tmobile right over the stock telus 4.0.3 without issue or do i need to unlock the bootloader and root first?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
**edit** i found an image for the stock 4.0.4 tmobile rom for odin. Before i flash it, just wsnt to check if i have to install cwm, or root or unlock bootloader to do something first or can i just put the phone into download mode and just odin it right over the stock telus 4.0.3?

I have had this phone for about 4 or 5 days. When at my house I get 3g and only about 1 or 2 bars. This happened on my Samsung stratosphere too. Could this be a SIM card issue or hardware. I have read about a lot of people replacing this phone and still getting issues with signal. If I do bring my phone in to a Verizon store to get a sim card do I have to revert my phone to stock? I don't know if I should send my phone back or if where I live is just horrible for data. Sorry for so many questions.

Flash another baseband radio and if you are using custom rom with custom kernel then flash stock galaxy nexus's kernel.

Since it is the case for two phones, then maybe the 3G coverage is not good in your place.
Try asking others living around to confirm if they also suffer the same 3G coverage problem. Also try in another place to see if it still shows a weak signal everywhere or only at your place.
I do get better signals in different areas. Even with the 3g and 1 bar my speeds for browsing are decent but I just was wondering if a sim card or replacement would help. Thanks and I will ask some people

If you would like to try another baseband radio as suggested by manumanfred then this thread should help you if you have a Verizon Galaxy Nexus as it seems
Check this for baseband radios if you have a GSM Galaxy Nexus
I flashed the 4.0.4 radios and they didn't change. Should I try flashing again?

Flashing radios makes a slight, if at all a difference. Your best bet would be to keep calling and complaining to your provider, ive seen some success stories where others have been able to get verizon/att to pay for a 3g extender
Edit:Alright thanks. I think I am just in a bad area and I use wifi at my house anyways. Thanks
I accidentally misread the radio labels. The 4.0.4 did install.

I am not sure that an old radio will perform better than the newer one. Give them a try then choose the one that suits you better
Well I am going to have to switch back to the latest. Data barely turns on when on these 4.0.4 radios. I am not going to return my phone because I doubt mine is defective. Thanks to everyone for helping

It would be great if you mark this thread solved by adding something like "[SOLVED]" at the beginning of the current title
One more thing please is to make a habit of hitting the "Thanks" button to those who help you
Good Luck
4.0.4 radios are old. Try running something a little newer. I'm using FC04/FC05. Although honestly I don't really see a difference. Most of the time it just adjusts the timings between switching in and out of 4G... which I have disabled.
I would also recommend looking at a cellular booster/repeater. I work underground in the bottom floor of an office complex and we don't get signal from any carrier. We paid like $200 for a repeater and now we're good.
I killed my S3 tonight and am looking at either the DNA or the Note 2. I had bad reception problems with the S3 (got a replacement and it was worse!). Every phone I had before the S3 worked fine in my house (fringe) and the S3 I had to go outside. Anyone have both and notice a difference? Don't know if they have the same radios in them. If they do I am probably going to try the DNA...
Thanks - Keith
I'm assuming your on Verizon since you are considering the DNA you may want to try asking there.
However I do get awesome reception on my note!

Yeah I did ask over there and everyone says the DNA gets better reception than the S3. So now I need to know if the reception is better on the Note than the S3...

Reception is about the same. Not much of a difference.
I believe dmtdan is referring to the fact that this is the Sprint Note 2 forum. You might want to ask this question in the Verizon Note 2 forum.

I'm on Sprint and I have a the Note 2 and I do get slighty better service than my wife on her S3 in fringe areas.. but I'm running different software on my modem than she is too. Not sure what the difference would be out of the box. I didn't check before I rooted and started flashing

I suggest you try getting an air rave.
you can get one for free if you call the air rave department at sprint and tell them about your spotty connectivity.
basically puts a tower in your house.

Qualcomm antennas? Nope. All Samsung antennas, just a simple piece of flat metal attached to the board.
I am looking for a good radio for my T-Mobile Galaxy S2, which I have on the AT&T network. I am hoping to improve performance and battery life. Or is there no real improvement to be found? My current radio is T989UVMC6.

Now days there's really no radio options. 2 for the t989....the new T-Mobile or Telus ones. I imagine the skyrocket is in the same boat. So you don't have many to choose from.
Battery problems? No matter the rom or android version.... >>>> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2461864

I'm running the latest Telus radio on AT&T, and service seems pretty good. Battery life has been incredible, but that is probably more of a function of the ROM I am running.

I actually went back to the T-Mobile radio, and I'd recommend staying with it, although your mileage may vary. When I was using it, I started having this issue where I would dial someone, and all I would hear was modem sounds. Kind of a screeching noise. The other party could hear it too. When I rebooted my phone, it would start working for a little while, then start up again. Tried a clean wipe, different rom, etc. Nothing helped. Went back to the T-Mobile radio, and no issues. I am in the Boston area, by the way, on AT&T.
