Hi everyone
Has anyone or would you pay the money to go to a Galaxy Nexus from a Nexus S or stay with the Nexus S?
Thanks for any input

Nexus S to Galaxy Nexus owner here... never regretted or looked back (although the gf is enjoying ICS on my old NS too).
GN feels and behaves like a generation ahead of the NS... like a PS3 to PS2
Xda Premium on GSM Galaxy Nexus

Count me in, Was Nexus S user before.
Only thing that I don't like in GN is, it really hot(warm) when in heavily use compare to NS.

me too!!
i came from nexus one then nexus s and now galaxy nexus

Got fed up with my 5th iPhone, sent off to Mission Repair to get fixed again.
Decided I was done with Apple products, so I sold iPhone 4, iPad, and MacBook Air on eBay.
Went to Best Buy to make the switch to Android with a AT&T Nexus S.
Bought GSM Galaxy Nexus from Newegg sold Nexus S on eBay.

I must be the only one to almost prefer the Nexus S with ICS over the GN...key word..almost.

I've heard a lot of great responses to the ICS update on the Nexus S. People say its great so I believe you.

I did the opposite. I just bought a refurbished Nexus S for $215. I never owned a Samsung Android before so I thought this would be a good opportunity for me to try one out before jumping to the Galaxy Nexus. Do you guys think I made the right decision? Does the Nexus S still worth $200+?
Previous androids I've owned are all Motorola's or HTC.

It took me a few days to get used to the size, still like the NS form factor. Won't give up the screen resolution though, it is night and day. One odd thing though is the camera from lock screen on the NS is significantly faster. I would put that on it being on 4.0.3, not on the hardware.

Nexus S is a great phone.
If you're looking at upgrading to a GNex, get the unlocked GSM version and you'll be much happier.
Honestly, I'd just keep the Nexus S and upgrade it to ICS if it were me. The GNex is great, I love it, but that's because I came from a phone that wasnt so simple to update (Vibrant). My gf has a Nexus S that I upgraded for her to ICS and it works great. Certainly well enough (imo) that if I had also had a Nexus S, that I wouldnt have spent money on the Gnex.

I think the NS with ICS is less laggy than the GN...

I went from a Nexus S to GNex. ICS on NS is in some ways better than ICS on GNex. But I still prefer the Gnex. Better screen, better GPS, fast 4G. Notification LED. Plus its newer and not many people have it lol.
Nexus S does have the perfect screen size though. Hopefully the next Nexus will go back to a 4" screen with 720p resolution.. that would be killer.

It all depends on your budget. If I was in the same boat as you, I would wait until Google IO (I think its in June) and see what they have to offer. Or at least until MWC when it is rumoured that Samsung will be unveiling the Samsung Galaxy S3

Honestly, ive owned every Nexus phone on day one and i dont think i could buy any other device. Something about owning a Nexus that guarentees support from both Google and the community that i just couldnt sacrifice. Id honestly say the Galaxy Nexus is the ultimate device for me but the Nexus S would be my second choice to this day. You cant go wrong with a Nexus is what im getting at, haha.

I'm loving the Nexus S so far. I guess what I'm trying to ask is, is it worth keeping the Nexus S which I paid $215 for when I plan on getting the GNex as well? I'll be buying the GNex from my carrier which is the GSM version. Money is not an issue. I was just wondering if the Nexus S is still worth keeping. I can still return it. Just thought I ask before the 14 days come up.

I was worried that going from a NS to a GNex would be too big of a step in screen size, the GNex is way bigger than the NS... but it's so thin and light, it's really fantastic. Performance is great, and now when I look at my NS and see actual pixels on the screen .. I'm glad I bought a GNex.

I kind of did went a round about way. I had a nexus s and loved it but it had an unfortunate accident so picked up an iPhone 4s. That was a mistake so bought a GNex and love it. I think it feels like a true update to the nexus s. I also think that I am going to stay with Samsung for my android devices I have tried others but the Samsung ones have been really good to me so far.

From Nexus S to Galaxy Nexus

Hi there!
Need an opinion.
Got a proposal of €180 for my Nexus S and I'm thinking of going for it and getting a new Galaxy Nexus for €400.
What do you think? Should I accept the proposal?
Thanks!
Doesn't sound too bad. Google play store have it cheaper, but that's only in the US.
IMO the Galaxy Nexus is a good upgrade from the Nexus S.
Go for it. I came from a Nexus S as well and i have no regrets
Yeap go for it! I gave my Nexus S to my sister. Galaxy Nexus is surely on a different level.

Had a nexus s also, and switched to galaxy nexus. For me, the difference is quite big.
Now I can really say that this is how an android phone should feel and perform.
On the other hand, nexus s was made for gingerbread, and as i remember, it performed quite decent with it.
Anyway, i have not seen or heard any regrets regarding the upgrade from nexus s to GN, but on the contrary, so go for it!

i have both the S and the gnex, the S is running stock ICS, the gnex is running stock jellybean
with that said, get the gnex... worlds better in every way.
Thank you all for your feedback.
Just ordered a white Galaxy Nexus (I'm a sucker for the Black/White contrast. )
Going to sell my Nexus S today so I'll have to pay my respects to it. It's been a great phone.
Sold my Nexus S for €200 after buying a second hand gnex for €275. Such an great deal and what an upgrade. Faster, more beautiful.

Do you want a SGSIII?
- If yes, get it.
- If no, keep your Galaxy Nexus.
Why do people constantly open threads like these. Why are you going to base your decision in someone else opinion?
My opinion....doesn't matter! Hell buy an iPhone for all I care.
sent from my Galaxy Nexus running official Jelly Bean!!!!
No.
Simba was moving too slow, so I told him to Mufasa.
Funny cause I just got an S3 for my wife about an hour ago. I haven't really played with it that much beside installing some of her apps. Me personally, I wouldn't be able to switch. There are some really neat features and the 2 gigs of ram is very nice but for me the nexus with jelly bean is still the better device.

The gs3 is an awesome phone no doubt. I won't be buying another non Nexus device for myself though. The Nexus line is exactly what I want in a phone... An awesome development community for bleeding edge features that non Nexus phones won't see for many many months.

Completely agree with this. Ive had an iPhone 4 for a year and before that an HTC Evo 4G. I grew tired of the iPhone so I decided to take a chance with this Nexus. I've got to honestly say as long as this device stays in working condition for the next few yrs, I won't buy another phone until they stop sending OTA updates to this phone. Which might not be for a loong time considering I bought this straight from Google.

totally worth it. do it.
Why you downgrade to an SGS 3?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Overall the S3 is underwhelming. AOKP running on both devices, the Nexus perform just the same. The S3 is faster in some tasks like installing apps and gaming, but for the most part its not a noticeable difference. And the Nexus have more up to date software and roms. I like the feel of the Nexus more, the S3 feel very flimsy.
I'm in a dilemma about which device I should sell, I can store more stuff with the S3 and take nicer photos, but for almost anything else I prefer the Nexus.
I do know for a fact that the T-Mobile of version of S3 will probably get Jelly Bean as its last official update, while the Nexus will get plenty more updates from Google in the future.
Also S3 factory firmware is unusable for me, very bloated and slow, I guess once you're spoiled by stock Android everything else feel slow.
Yes, then sell the gs3, buy a new nexus, and pocket the difference.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Why didn't I thought of that?
Yes! Sell it for $450-500, then buy the Play Store GNex for $350. Pocket the difference
EDIT: Got beaten to it by Yuhfhrh

Pocketing the difference feels great.
traded my iPhone 4 32GB + $100 for a 4S back in January off craigslist. The dude couldn't wait for jailbreak any longer and valued a bit more cash.
Flipped my iPhone 4S (that I got an AT&T sanctioned unlock for as soon as they started doing that) three days after playing with my GNex for $550.
Pocketed $170. Almost enough to cover iPhone "5" since I'm eligible for an upgrade. Might do that and flip it for Nexus 2 when the time comes.
Either way, in a great spot and happier than I could imagine with my Jelly device

UNI as in University of Northern Iowa?
I love my Nexus, you won't be disappointed if you get one. I owned an iPhone for a year and half and will never go back. I prefer the open garden approach and Android is leaps and bounds ahead of iOS IMO. You will still have issues with battery life but that is pretty much going to be the case with any smart phone with such a big screen and LTE.
Nooo I'm going to a university in England so ill have no use for 4G and stuff the main thing I like about the iPhone is the retina display its so clear that and the fact it's really fast, also I won't be buying it on contract ill probably pay about £300 and get one of them on pay as you go.

I'm about to upgrade from my Droid 2 Global also, and is thinking about the galaxy nexus or the new droid razr m, from the reviews on the razr m battery life seems pretty good, you might want to consider that.
The defferences I see between the galaxy nexus and the razr
Nexus 4.65 inch screen Razr M 4.3M
Nexus Processor 1.2 MHZ Razr 1.5 MHZ
Nexus no expandable memory option Razr M has a micro sd slot takes up to 32 G
They both have NFC
Nexus camera is 5 mega pixel Razr M 8 , but review says both have mediocre picture taken.
Nexus verizion i think have jelly bean now (not sure) Razr M Motorola promises jelly bean before the end of the year.
Compare them they are both $99 bucks on Verizon website.
$99 for a galaxy nexus ? I refuse to believe this.
Nvm you have to buy a contract that's a rip off.

I know BestBuy was selling the Verizon Nexus for free with new/renewed contract for a while there. Looking at their website now though, it looks like it is back to $99. If you could get the Nexus for free, I think that would be the way to go vs the Razr M.
I wouldn't have a clue about American deals or providers as I live in the UK, although I have been contemplating upgrading my nexus s to the galaxy nexus however it's put me off as I've heard a lot of reports of it being laggy and the camera is crappy so you don't really want to be paying £300+ for a phone with sub par features. And the only thing putting me off about the iPhone 4 is the glass back, you drop that ****er once and its gone and I've dropped my nexus s so many times it's unbelievable but it's sponged it so I don't know what to do really..

I found the retina display underwhelming until I finally saw a 3gs and realized how big of a jump it was for iPhone users. Most of the higher end android phones were already using high density displays so the advantage was minimalized.
As for the Nexus, its plenty fast (especially with JB) and the screen is quite high def as well (people talk about the screen tech but I cant see it, pixel density is too high).
And the features are night and day. Apple gives you a basic platform and lets you buy into advanced features. Android, from the beginning really packed those features in. Voice actions, maps and navigation, notification system have all been there for years and are quite mature.

Definitely get the Galaxy Nexus per all of the above comments, not to mention the huge developer community backing it. If in 3 months you don't like something about the phone, change it. The battery life isn't that bad considering what all you do with the phone anyway. I can go all day with a mid day battery boost of about 20% and JB is pretty snappy as well.

They could be coming out soon with a new wave of nexus devices. I might go for the Sony xperia nexus if/when it comes out. Tho, it probably won't be cheap. And my parents offered to put me on their family plan with verizon since they booted my ex-brother-in-law. So who knows. Good luck, man!
Galaxy nexus FTW!!!!
XenonHd-GNex
Compare the Operating Systems. Nowadays I think it's not mainly a hardware question, but price and software. Look at both of them and decide which work flow / features cater more to your need. Personally, I would go for the Galaxy Nexus with Android. My workflow with android is much more fluid than with iOS.
And if you aren't frightened of flashing your phone to get new features, more power etc, then Android is a natural choice.
PS: And on another note, I wouldn't support a company behaving like Apple right now.
Come on....don't buy an iPhone

Top reasons to buy:
It's a Nexus
Great price
Snappy perfomance
Reasons not:
Screen blows monkey nuts (tint, burn-in)
Camera is merely okay/ sub-par
Sound quality is garbage
Speaker is quiet

[Q] Upgrading from Nexus S with Slim roms.

I currently have a nexus s 4g that I run JB Slim rom on; my upgrade has finally come up, and I'm not sure whether or not I should use it. My choice would be between the Gnex or S3, being that they both are supported by similar custom roms. From personal experience, is a GNEX with Jelly bean really that much of an upgrade from an oced Nexus S 4g with Jelly Bean? That question will answer my other question.
yes, its that much of an upgrade from the ns. the ns is like a toy compared to the gnex.

Yeah, I wanted the gnex last year, but alas stuck with the NS being that sprint didn't get it until Late Q2. I am not all too impressed with the Nexus 4, so I'd rather go to Galaxy Nexus.
Are these screen problems I'm reading about very common? And how are the galaxy nexus screens in comparison to the nexus s quality? I may have to sit in store and get the sales people to flip batteries, search for a c7 + build before I purchase one.

It's pretty common. But in my experience I had grany screen and such only when I have the screen brightness low.
But why are you upgrading to Galaxy Nexus instead of Nexus 4? I'm not saying that this is bad, but Nexus 4 is really dirt cheap and I personally don't see a reason to get this instead of Nexus 4 except maybe hating the design or found deal for cheaper price

Well mainly due to my experience with past lg phones, and that I'm on sprint. I actually have a 1 year upgrade due to having vmobile in the past, so my choices are: wait for contract to go out, buy the next nexus in Nov 2013, or upgrade, stick with sprint and go with the galaxy nexus. It would be an easy choice if my city wasnt in phase two for LTE, due to be complete march 2013.
GNex have many issues but most are fixed with custom ROMs and kernel. I say go with new Nexus.

Upgrade to GNex or?

Hello Gnex owners!
I've been using my Nexus S for some time now and I believe it's time for upgrade. I was thinking Gnex because it is cheap but I need your opinion. If there are any previous Nexus S users here, you do know that after Jelly Bean arrived, NS became too laggy to support it and it was terrible. People reverted to ICS.
So,
1. How fast is your phone today on 4.2.2, how often does it lag, crash and so on...
2. How fast is it compared to Nexus 4 and Galaxy S3?
Selling my Nexus S and adding not a lot of money does get me Galaxy Nexus, so I'm pretty excited. Or get Galaxy S2/Note 1? Thank you!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk HD
1.Phone is as fast as i need it to be. It lags occasionally if i play a game like gta iii, but I'm not a big gamer.. Doesn't ever seem to crash, unless i'm experimenting.
2.As far as side-by-side comparisons, The nexus 4 is only about 4 months old; the galaxy siii is about 11 or twelve months old, and the gnex is about 16 months old; Things change quickly in the phone world. So you have to keep in mind the time frames.
If you're seriously considering a galaxy sii, I'd go for the galaxy nexus. Why haven't you mentioned something like the htc one x, etc.?
All in all, I think I'll be quite happy with this phone for another year or so.
No lags on a daily normal usage for me. Even when there is lag while running a lot of apps it‘s nothing that‘ll make you crazy.
None of the games like NFSMW or GTA III lag or slowdown noticably.
If I were you, coming from the Nexus S I‘d have upgraded to the Nexus 4 than the GSIII or even the Galaxy Nexus.
for the right price def do it!
I made the switch from Nexus S to Galaxy Nexus because of the JB lag you mentioned, and I couldn't be happier. I never even considered getting a Nexus 4 because my phone works so well.

Former ns4g user here. I was in the exact same situation as you and made the leap back in December. Speed and smoothness are fine for me (don't play games). I think for the money/android experience, there's no better way to play it than to annually upgrade to 1-gen old nexus devices. I'm generally happy, but must say that I thought the ns was the ideal form factor. I even went back to my ns4g on a slimmed down Rom for a while before finally deciding to sell it. I just use web, email, maps, and a few apps, so the larger screen didn't add much to my user experience. Whatever though, I digress ... if you get the gnex, you'll be happy with 4.2.2

I'll be honest and say that i do miss my Nexus solely for development purposes. You'll always be ahead in the game with the Nexus. I have a S3 now and the only complaints I have are development community, I wish it was bigger. There is a ton of pros and cons though so you have to go with what suits your needs not everyone else's. My main reasons for getting rid of it were camera and no external SD card but I should have kept it around to mess with. All around it was an awesome phone though and if for some reason my S3 broke and that's the only phone I could go for I would be just fine with it.

I like the phone so much I just bought an used one for the wife.
personally my opinion is that if you plan to keep the phone for about 2 years or so, spend extra 100 and get a Nexus 4. The reason is that while the Galaxy Nexus is fast enough, with new software update, it can bring it down a little bit. I have used Galaxy Nexus and feel it is a bit slower than the newer Snapdragon S4 based phones due to the CPU. In addition, the Nexus 1GB RAM is fine now but with next round of OS update, it may not be.
It is no doubt that Nexus 4 should support the upcoming Key Lime Pie (or whatever is called) and probably so would the Galaxy Nexus. While Galaxy Nexus will run KLP fine, I think you may possibly ended up feeling that it is a bit too slow once the software hits while the Nexus 4 won't. In addition, with N4, you would also be able to keep it a bit longer and enjoy the future software updates.
if you're on verizon, gnex is a good bet to switch. i was in verizon yesterday and none of the phones they have interested me. if you're looking for a gsm phone, nexus 4. i'm on verizon so nexus 4 is not in my future, but i'm very happy with my gnex being over a year old already.

I got my phone around November 2012 for free with Verizon. Though a year old I have to say that it is still blazing fast. If your looking for a great looking phone, this is it. There is a bunch of phones that are much faster than the Galaxy Nexus but don't let this deter you. It runs 4.2.2 super smooth under clocked. I'm sure it will run the next update just as fast. The nexus 4 is a great phone but depending on what you do, the extra speed is a little overkill.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
Nope, I'm in Europe, so I'm one of those who have to buy unlocked phones, no contracts or anything. Personally, my Nexus S is pretty fast, but after using my sister's S3 for a while the screen became to small, the phone itself became too small. I gave it a thought and I don't think speed will bother me that much on it. I won't play any games except Temple Run or something like that, I use Nexus 7 for high quality games like Real Racing or Deadzone.
I can sell Nexus S for 150€ and get new Galaxy Nexus for 260€. Nexus 4 is only sold by retailers here, and you can imagine how big the price is. At least 400-450€, Note 2 and S3 are cheaper! Evil retailers. Second hand Galaxy Nexus is no more than 220€.
So yes, thank you all for replying!
