Q: Glonass allready active in 2.3.4? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi Guys. Sony Ericsson post in the his developer blog Glonass, the Russian GPS Service, is support in the new Xperia S and in all Snapdragon S2 & S3 devices (Xperia Play) too with latest update. Here the blog post:
http://developer.sonyericsson.com/wp/2012/01/19/glonass-support-in-our-latest-xperia-phones/
But what is latest update for Sony. Is it Android 2.3.4 .42 Xperia Play Update or the coming .64 fix in January or ICS that comes later this year in may?
Can anyone tell me my Xperia Play with 2.3.4 and .42 Update support Glonass now?
I am a geocacher and I want to buy a glonass ready GPS Receiver in February but when the Play support glonass now I don't must buy the receiver ;-)
Sorry for my bad english!

wow,it works on .42
wow this is just great man ... i just tried it and yes i can locate 13 sats and got 11 sats in use with the test app that was suggested in your link....this is crazy i just went up to 17 sats and 14 in use...i got accuracy to 9 feet and i'm indoors
thanks bro great news i love my sexperia even more

Yep, definitely working in .42. More info here...

Maybe that's the reason for the outstanding GPS performance? When I was able to pinpoint myself in a crowded street with GMaps I was pretty surprised.

Nice, thanks for the link, very interesting!

No Jelly Bean for Ascend P1

After some discussion with a supposedly corresponding Huawei :
Link
Huawei Ascend will not the day pretending to P1 lies.
Very bad level monitoring software, I find it stupid and totally unfair to drop the newest smartphones to benefit others.
Made by Huawei do not buy, if you are not having to update software.
I recall that the Ascend P1 is always a Androis while ICS 4.0.3 final version is 4.0.4
For those who do have to with the purchase smartphone, I invite you to make a bad buzz on their facebook and twitter, to make them understand that we are not pumps money.
Otherwise I think Ascend P1 sell my benefit a google nexus, at least the updates are followed.
It's a shocking news! I replied to your post, and I'll paste it here (sorry for my english, I'm Italian and as each of us know italians speak bad english )
ARE YOU JOKING? There was a fully functional chinese beta (but not usable for european users), there is MIUI JB based, there is CM10 and you say that the hardware can't support it? Galaxy Nexus has JB (and hardware is not better than P1, same cpu), S2 will receive JB, my Razr will receive JB, i had a Sony Xperia S (that will receive JB soon) etc.
I brought P1 a week ago because it could be receive JB... oh, what a shame! I'll sell this ****ty phone and I'll never more buy a Huawei product! SHAME, SHAME, SHAME!!!

This is the stupid reply by Huawei Device SA
We understand your frustrations and have put together some answers for you. With regards to our South African fans we have the following insights regarding the JellyBean update and the Ascend P1 device.
Firstly the Ascend P1 uses the Texas Instruments chips, we can’t get any support from Texas Instruments now.
The Samsung S2 uses their own chips, so they can update to Jellybean.
As we said before the hardware can’t support it. This means that the CPU we are running is different to the CPU in the S2 and therefore is not capable of supporting JellyBean. We understand that our customers want the latest and greatest OS, however the differences between JB and IS are actually not that big.
We do have new products launching soon and hope to ensure that we deliver the latest OS.
We value our customers and strive to ensure that we deliver the best support. Thank you The Huawei Team
P1 has the same CPU as Galaxy Nexus, maybe they thinks that we are all stupid...!
A signed my dear friend
Awesome. So joke like Xperia J will get an update due to its "powerful" hardware but P1, despite being like 15x better, won't get it because hardware can't support it. Nice trolling Huawei.

Huawei Device SA Hi Everyone! Take a look at this page comment and link please - "We are in the process of releasing Jellybean "Developer Version" based on Emotion UI 1.5 for Ascend P1. "

Xperia ZL 4.3/4.4

Sony Mobile has just confirmed that it plans to update ten Xperia handsets to Android 4.3 Jelly Bean from December 2013 onwards. The handsets on the list includes the Xperia Z series (Z, ZL, ZR, Z Ultra, Z1 and Tablet Z) along with the Xperia SP. It also confirmed that a number of older handsets will also get Android 4.3 including the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V.
A number of recent lower-end handsets have not made the list at all though, including the Xperia L, Xperia M and Xperia C. The Xperia L and Xperia M should be able to handle the upgrade, so maybe Sony has decided not to update these handsets given their positioning. This would be a shame though especially since they only launched within the last six months. The Xperia C has limited availability so we can understand if that was left off due to commercial reasons. We’ll keep you posted as the countdown to the Android 4.3 update commences.

Saw this today also, great news......... 4.4 will also be coming to the Z series also ......
Why they didn't just update directly to 4.4 and skip 4.3? It will make more sense.

Hey guys, i read that google is gonna bring RAW file support in android 4.4 so we can have images with zero compression meaning we can have the best our sony can actually provide . As u know, high compression in sony cams is quite an issue, as it deteriorates image quality.

Heres a link for the info http://www.thinkdigit.com/Mobiles-PDAs/Google-to-bring-RAW-images-burst-mode_18463.html

I suppose we can all hope for another Commercial and Journalists leak. That would be ideal!

Any android 8.0 oreo news?

No Z series on the list
http://www.xperiablog.net/2017/08/31/sony-confirms-android-8-0-oreo-rollout/
Why Z5 series not receive android 8 ?
Whyyyyyyyyyyy
what? no xperia Z5 android 8? affff, need send email to sony claim this...
-_- there ahould be someone to port custom android 8 rom for us
Sony ditched Z family.
Well the Z5P came with Lollipop so Nougat was suppose to be the last since Sony only gives 2 major updates to flagships
"2 major updates already rolled out". That's ok, but it cannot be an acceptable reason. No hardware requirements which can block Oreo release for Snapdragon810. Nexus 6P will get the update, and it have very close hardware. Also the Z5P is a premium device with high price, it should get more support.

Only issue I see atm, is that we need a kernel 4.4 and for some reson Sony has removed Z series from their kernel git
no news about android 8 oreo ?
It seems there won't be official -- I reached out to the Sony Blog which posted the news on their site, and got a reply:

Xperia z updated to Android 8 by lineage os.
Can anyone port android 8 for our device?
Whan lineage start supporting z5 premium?
https://twitter.com/sonyxperiagb/status/951371712700014592
Asked Xperia UK and they replied
Hello!
Our Android upgrade policy is to support all premium range devices for eighteen months after the device has launched, which excludes devices that came to market before those listed.
Therefore, the Xperia Z5 Premium will not receive the Oreo update.

That's just sad. Why is there an artificial lifetime for this device? It's an expensive device, and it sucks that it's only supported for 18 months.

New Software Update for XQ-AT52 -58.0.A.3.132_R5A

can someone try and tell what it updates
Probably just the security patch
Any bugs were resolved?

What country that u device have
The update only seems to be out for the Russian firmware on XperiFirm
Really? We gonna have one new useless thread like that one each month?
Let me clear a few things.
Sony doesn't change anything between each update, the second firmware fix some bugs that might be there and that's all.
All next updates are security updates until next major android build.
Oh and Android R won't bring anything new.

.88 firmware brought RAW support in Photo Pro app. So, there is new stuf, but Sony doesn't say it in changelog. That is why we ask What is new in each firmware update every month.

yeah Russia generic and O2 UK firmware has it now - UK generic, and EU generic do not.
I got UK generic update last night
It's really incredible to me that Sony still does not provide a change log. For my last few flagship phones I switched to OnePlus and got spoiled by the rapid iteration detailed changelogs and high consumer touch of a scrappy startup-minded manufacturer.
I really looked forward to getting the Xperia 1ii but have been completely disappointed in almost everything.
I received this update last night in the United States. Weeks after other regions had already received it still no one has any idea of what changed on our devices.

What did you think of One Plus, sorry for the off topic. I was considering the One Plus 8 Pro but went with the Sony instead. I'm satisfied with this phone but interested in people's opinions on the One Plus performance, skin etc

Can I ask how you know it's just a security update? I have several Sony Android based TVs that they pushed updates down to with no release notes that also included version increments for included apps.
I loved both the OnePlus flagships I had I had a 16 McLaren edition and a 7 Pro. The 7 Pro was just fantastic updates came out constantly with new features. I guess the only reason I didn't continue to buy OnePlus was I was frustrated that they got rid of the mechanical front-facing camera which made the display on the 7 Pro simply amazing.
OnePlus forums are very active lots of knowledgeable people and plenty of opportunities to sign up for beta features or releases.

Been using Sony phones since '08. Version number changes are more pronounced when there are significant changes. Sony never publishes change logs which is ridiculous but it won't change. Size is indicative as well. I think the file was 170mb or so, not really large enough to carry anything substantial.
It seems that the jpg rendering in the Photo Pro app for the wide angle lens has changed. It used to be different from the result in the normal photo app, but now looks the same.
XQ-AT52 from HK Is still on 3.88 ...... :'(
Security patch
I think it's a security patch, I hope they fix the screen mirroring issue, it won't play picture only shows background and plays audio. Same with usbc to hdmi adapter
Do Sony keep the security updates close to Google's? My job requirements is that they are running 3 months old security patches. My OnePlus 7 pro have been updated regularly as part of their beta program. It's been a while since I have a Sony, I think it's time to jump off the OnePlus for me.
