How to connect to internet on a laptop?

I have no problem to connect to the internet (to update weather, news etc) when I connect my P3300 to my desktop (which connect to the internet through a hardwire modem and a hardwire router). When I connect the P3300 to my laptop (the laptop is connect to internet through the WIFI rounter), I then cannot update those weather or news in my P3300. What setup do I need to change in the P3300 in order to be able to get to the internet through the laptop's WIFI connection? Thank you for any help.

Should happen automatically if you have a standing ActiveSync connection. No special settings needed. On the other hand - Check your firewall. Maybe some soft on the laptop is preventing your PDA from getting access to the internet!

Thanks Theonly1....one other thing though, I am using Vista ultimate x32....
not tried this yet but....just plug in and it will recognise the phone as a modem or GSM connection for internet surfing on the laptop?

Thanks for the feedback. I have try to disable the firewall, but it still cannot connect to the internet. By the way, the laptop us window XT. If I enable the WIFI on the P3300, then it can connect to the internet by it's own WIFI. But if I disable it's own WIFI, then it did not connect to the internet throught the laptop's WIFI connection. I think there must be some setting in the network connection, so that it will be able to use the laptops WIFI and get information through it. But I do not know how. Any help is appreciated. Hermes as a Wireless access point???

Hello everyone can anyone tell me of some program which can turn my hermes into a wirless access point , i know there is a program called "WMWifiRouter" but it can only use gprs for internet access and here in our country gprs is still much expensive . I would like to have a program which can use the usb connection from my pc as a internet source .why do i need it?....... because i want to connect my few other devices such as nintendo ds to internet through it .plz plz plz can anyone help. Thanks in advance and one more thing thanks to all the great cheifs here who do wonderfull job for us specially the legendary Schaps, faria and Shamanix.anyways thanks again.

Thanks alot "starbase64" for replying but i already mention that wifi router is not suitable for me because it only uses gprs for internet connection and i cant afford gprs its way too expensive in our country what i am searching is a program which works like "wifi router " but uses usb connection from the pc(connected to the internet through regular lan card) as internet source not gprs .sorry for my bad english if i am not making my point clears ,thanks anyways.anyone plz help.

erhm, considering the hassle you'd be going through (even if WiFiRouter worked with USB), why dont you just dish out the 10$ USD for a cheap wireless network card for your PC?
Then simply run Ad-Hoc WiFi internet sharing from your PC.
If you're thinking of having MULTIPLE devices connect to the phone like a router, well, that's simply not going to happen. The WiFiRouter software might call itself a "router", but the WiFi adapter in the phone isn't able to handle more than one wifi connection.
If you want PORTABILITY (plug in WiFi an internet cafe PC or public PC or school PC), buy a USB WiFi dongle adapter (maybe 20$ USD)
Sure, it would mean seting up internet sharing every time on a new PC, but then again you wouldnt be assured all public PC got Activesync installed to allow internet sharing via USB from your phone anyway.
OR
have you tried UNCHECKING "Allow Wireless Connection On Device When Connected To The Desktop" in Activesync connection settings (on the PC ) and then using WMWiFiRouter?

I want to share my laptop internet connection through wifi but it is connected through proxy in my college. Can any one tell me how to do it? Normal adhoc connection is not working.

I think what you meant is trying to use your Defy's as mobile hotspot to connect your laptop which currently setting to your college internet proxy...
In windows 7 it can auto established to a multiple network connections.
The only thing you need to do is setting your internet option connection to which network you want to connect..
Goto Control panel - network & internet - internet option - connections - Lan settings - proxy server - uncheck everything..

Internet sharing

Hey guys...i'm facing a big problem.I want to share my internet connection from my laptop to my Wave 2. My friend Google told me something about ad hoc connection. I made that ad hoc connection, my Wave 2 connects to my Wifi network but does not have any internet....I need help. Maybe someone from this forum can help. On my laptop i have Win 7 and i want to share my internet connection because i don't have a WIFI router (yet )

No need for help anymore....i found a way to share internet connection from my laptop to may wave....it's called Connectify for those who want it

connectify hotspot
but search for the full version, that works better.
