.36 Vs .64 Baseband - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys, I was on the .64 Baseband but moved over to the .36 baseband. I noticed though that my download speeds through 3G were really bad compared to the more latest .64 baseband. Has anyone else had poorer 3G downloads with .36 ?
Thanks.

Did you modify or use a different build.prop between the basebands? There are config settings in the build.prop to define 3G speeds

Well after flashing the Baseband I did then flash via CWM the .Lib files to go with the baseband, aside from that, that was all I was told to do.

+1 i seem to have slow speed aswell as it keep cutting out and lower signal. i am on .32 but was on .62 i am using a .62 rom and the .32 libs

[Q] JVQ on Bell Network?

I'm having connectivity issues with the Bell network all of sudden. I'm on DarkyRom 10.2 with the JVQ modem. Has anyone else noticed any issues? Would another modem be a better choice?
Thanks!

Use the KG3 modem.
Was this randomly, or did you change something? You may need to setup your APN, for example. Good luck!

I've got the bell i9000m as well and use the current jvt modem with no issues on bell.
You could try to upgrade to jvt or like the last poster said flash kg3.
I believe perka's file stash on the market will have a cement version on kg3.
Good luck.

I'm having the same issue with JVT and I can't find the KG3 on the file stash? Is there another location? Any idea why this would be happening as of a sudden?
Thanks for your help!

There's no logical explanation for it to work and then out of no where stop working. You likely did something to cause this. Were you tinkering with the phone at all before this issue first came up? Anything at all?
And just google for the modem.
I don't believe so. The phone says the baseband is JVT but the Kernel is still darkcore 2.9.1_JVQ and the build number is DarkyROM JVQ v10.2.
Could this be causing the issue?
To clarify, does "connectivity issues" mean you cannot connect, or you're signal is consistently weak? If it's the former, check your APNs—you may have to reflash the firmware; if it's the latter, that's a very strange error to have randomly popped up. But do try the KG3 modem.
The phone won't be able to connect to the data network for long periods of time. I still have bars but the H and 3G symbols are not present.
It will work for a while and then go dead. I will try the KG3 modem.

Curious do you have any apps like superpower? That controls the data and wifi connections?
I noticed on my tab that I have issues with my wifi and when this happens I just restart.
See if that could be it?

I just flashed to darky's 10.2 from 9.5 and i just installed the KG3 modem. So far it seems to work pretty good but the real test will be when i go back to work later this week. If i get good signal in there then I know it will be good.
I was using the JL2 modem before when I was on darky's 9.5 and it worked great. If the KG3 doesn't work out i will probably go back to JL2.

What modem to use? Optus, N7100

Hi all,
I am using my n7100 on the optus network in Australia,
I recently flashed a new stock ROM, but now my mobile data speeds suck, and my battery life is horrible with 3g on.
I can't remember what modem I was using before.
If anyone else is using the n7100 on optus, could u please tell me what modem u r using?,
Thanks

There are very few threads on this on the entire internet, so I'll answer, even though it's huge threadromancy.
XXDLK7 is the best modem for Optus networks in my experience, and I've tested quite a few. I'm on TPG.
Emergency Calls Only

Hi, I have recently been trying new mods, on the current mod my modem does not seem to be working. I get signal but emergency calls only and no data.
I have flashed the XXDLK7 modem as I'm on the Optus network on TPG but still have the same issue.
Any suggestions please?
Thanks.

You haven't flashed a ROM with one of those problematic new Samsung firmwares by any chance have you?
At what point did everything stop working?

[Q] Play 3G Problem

Hi, I have a rooted xperia play R800i (unlocked bootloader and no simlocks) with stock rom 3.0.1.A.0.145 and 3G works fine (baseband 21-22). When I flash any other stock rom with higher baseband (tried 36, 56, 64), I lose 3G signal. I only get 2G connections. When I go into settings->Networks->Mobile Networks->Network Operators, I see only 2G operators. I have a Singtel connection (2100 mhz). On all firmwares I have tried, service menu says I have UMTS_1 UMTs_8.
The reason I want to go to new baseband (atleast 36) is to have custom roms and ICS on the phone. Giving up 3g is not really an option.
I have tried flashing old baseband after flashing custom roms (using flashtool, exclude system and kernel and then copying libs manually from old firmware for baseband) but I keep getting unknown baseband in settings->about phone. There is no voice or data signal if I do this.
Any suggestions to fix this problem will be very helpful.

Did you tried baseband from neo l's firmware?
I'm using it for a long time now, so i know it works. Maybe it will work for you too

Exlude all, leave just baseband in flashtool, no extra files needed.
(make backup, just in case)

Have you tried just the baseband for .79? Its a world FTF.
Here is the link from my collection:
http://d-h.st/Mbi
I also have a baseband that I am using its .80 baseband, I have the FTF and the flashable files for it as well. I was getting edge where I live, in the mountains, after flashing .80 I went to HSPA+. Big difference in reception strength and stability for me.
Let us know how it goes.

Here is the link for the FTF of the 80 baseband and the flashable zip of the 80 libs.

Just in case you want to test it out.
Thanks, will try it out tonight. Will post an update on the results.
Thanks.
Hi,
Tried both basebands and still the same problem. Flashed whole 79 ftf and no 3G, tried baseband 80 with libs, still only 2G. 3G works fine as soon as I install the old ftf. A strange pattern I have noticed that I would like to share. The only firmwares that have worked for me are the ones starting with 3.x.x.x, anything with 4.x.x gives the same problem. Here are the firmwares I could find and I tried them out and they work fine.
Xperia PLAY_3.0.1.A.0.145_UK
Xperia_Play_2.3.3_UK_Generic
These basebands havent worked for 3G
R800a_2.3.4_North America Generic.ftf
R800i_4.0.1.A.0.283_(1247-6212).ftf
R800i_4.0.2.A.0.42_Generic_UK.ftf
R800i_4.0.2.A.0.58_EnhancedV2.ftf
R800i_4.0.2.A.0.58_Generic Hong Kong Trade.ftf
R800i_4.0.2.A.0.62_(1253-4437).ftf
R800i_4.0.A.2.368_World.ftf
MT25i_4.1.B.0.631 INDONESIA_SONY MOBILE by wewenk.ftf
R800i_-80_Baseband_GSM.ftf
R800_4.0.2.A.0.79.ftf
Are there any 3.x.x firmwares available I haven't tried which have basebands which might work with ICS? That would solve my problem I am guessing.
Thanks.
See if there is dome ftf you didn't try at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2184897
And quick question, did you try to install doomlord's ics kernel and some stock-based ics rom on firware you have working 3g? (i mean, is it working if you DON'T flash newer firmware?)
And also, are apn settings same on working 3.x.x firmware and on any other rom you have only 2g (check them manualy, write on paper if you have to)

Yes have tried installing DoomKernel ICS with stock ICS over 3.0.1.A.0.145, I get no network detection and get an Unknown Baseband in about phone. Also tried copying ouver the 7 lib files from the working rom into this setup but same error.
APN settings are the same across firmwares.

Damn, you are really unlucky...
Even i am without ideas what you can do...
Maybe to try cm9 or cm10 roms...
Most desperate idea:
Do you have some friend who have newer rooted Xperia phone with ics or jb on it, and steal baseband libs from him

Asia Modem test results with BCKernel2.2
Sorry It took so long to reply with results. I have tested this modem with different kernels and finally it tuned with BCKernel 2.2
With data only, the battery drain is 2%. Signal strength is really good. Most of the time It stayed with 4G. (My home is at the edge of 4G coverage)
Battery drain with wify only is the same 2%.
This is my test results from Sri Lanka and my mobile carrier is Dialog GSM.
