(Q) I can't hear calller but they can hear me - sometimes - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Sorry if this has been covered, but has anyone experienced a problem with not hearing a caller but them hearing you? This doesn't happen every time, but every so often when someone calls they can hear me, but I can't hear them. btw the phone is stock (I gave it to a friend and unrooted it).
thanks in advance.

Is bluetooth and headphones involved?
If so, you have to unplug your headphones for the sound to be directed to bluetooth.
Unless you have the car dock.
Stupid samsung design.

thanks but no, its just the regular headset.

Bluetooth Headset Issues (BlueAnt Q1)

I've searched around on XDA and can't find any info. I recently bought a Blueant Q1 headset. Works great on my computer. The sound quality of its built-in audio commands is very loud and clear. However, when I talk in my Captivate using the headset, people are very quiet on my end, and they often tell me that they can hear themselves echoing back through the phone call. I don't have these issues when using the same headset with my computer. Does anyone have any advice to offer?

Car Bluetooth While Playing Music

I have a hands free bluetooth system in my car. I noticed that while I play music via auxiliary cord, and someone calls me, the Bluetooth isn't working. Anyone else having same issue?

I have the exact same issue in my car, tried everything to get around it. You just have to unplug the auxiliary cable when you get a call incoming.

Calls come through bluetooth if using audio through car dock.

I hope that's not the only option. I didn't have this issue with the Evo so I wonder what's causing this

Get an A2DP cd player and you don't need to worry about auxiliary. It's all done through bluetooth. This is what I got

It has something to do with TTY settings. I also have this issue.
I hope someone could figure out how to fix this. I have to take out the aux cord whenever I get a call in my G35.
*UPDATE* So I did some searching and it looks like the original Epic had the same issue but was fixed via OTA update. Hopefully Samsung/Sprint is aware of this issue.
other forums have mentioned this problem "Received confirmation from Samsung that there will be no fix for this. It was made this way on purpose. I guess the Epic 4g does the same thing. I am not buying a $400 stereo system just to use this phone properly. What was Samsung thinking? Every other Android device works the correct way."
I haven't called samsung myself but this is absolutely ridiculous if it was made this way on purpose. full thread here (well because i don't have 8 posts to this forum, i can't post the full thread link! it's on android forums at android central.com. you can access the thread by doing this search "No car kit bluetooth while Aux stereo cord is plugged in" sorry!
what possible reason would there be to have to unplug the auxillary jack to use bluetooth? it's an incredible inconvenience. and i would rather not use an A2DP adapter to play music, i'm assuming that this would eat up more battery life than using the auxillary 3.5 mm jack
anyone know of a ROM that get's past this issue?
Same situation
Galaxy S II in original car dock+cable to car audio system AUX jack
Stock ROM 2.3.4
Bluetooth Jabra BT125
It's possible to answer with bluetooth earphone, but can't hear other side, just myself.
Other side hears me OK
Try this:
http://www.miccus.com/products/blubridge-mini-jack-rx
Plugs in to your car deck and allows you to use Bluetooth to stream music to it.
I think you can pair both your headset or BT speaker phone and the Blubridge to your phone at the same time.

Buying something else is not a solution.
This is some type of design flaw.
What a completely useless technical support they have. "This is how the phone was designed and we cannot change that"
Last samsung product I will buy. They have no concept of customer service.
This is a design flaw. Bluetooth should be completely independant of the audio jack.
What they want is you to use the dock for use in the car so it can be hands free. Unfortunately if its true they don't intend to fix with an OTA then the only option is to use the functionality they have given you. The headphone jack takes priority over other connections in this instance. Sorry. I am sure you don't want this to be the resolution.

Take the car out of the equation. I am using a Jabra headset to take calls, but have the phone plugged into an external speaker to listen to music at my desk.
Call comes in, I have to unplug the speaker to use bluetooth.
What dock would affect this?

Similar scenario for me. I listen to Sirius/XM through earbuds at work. When the phone rings, I have to unplug the earbuds to hear through my Bluetooth headset. Then I have to tell the caller to wait while I exit the Sirius app because it keeps on playing through my Bluetooth headset.
Wrote about this issue to my local Samsung office.
Answer was:
That's the way device works. Only one source can be used: jack or bluetooth.
Not both together.
I don't have words to describe how this is lame.
Just stupid, audio should be independant of the source.
All my past phones have worked fine. Evo would pause the music, I take the call, when I end the call, the music picks back up and plays.
Terrible design, and while I could live with it if Samsung agreed it should be fixed, them simply saying "thats how it is, live with it" is not acceptable. I will not get another samsung phone because of their poor service.
Let alone the stupid kernel partition they use.
Back to HTC.

Hmm, reading the other thread got me thinking.
I know there are different AUX cables, some have two bars (looking at the male part that plugs into the jack) and some have 3.
I wonder if there is a different behavior between the two. Maybe the phone is thinking there is a headset plugged into the aux jack.
Installed 2.3.6
I can confirm that problem is fixed.
When there is incoming call, it's routed to bluetooth headset, music is shutdown.
Navigation warnings in headset are heard as short beeps.
Great !!!

[Q] What's the TMO SGS2 earbuds button suppose to do?

Hello so I a simple question
What does the standard TMO SGS2 earbuds button suppose to do?
In other phone you press the button and it will take you to voice command but it doesn't for SGS2
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say its answers/ends incoming calls. It may skip songs when playing music also, I honestly haven't used them myself.

Yeah i test right now but there should be a way to make it connect to voice commands
So i know it answers and end calls, thats it for me.
Does anyone else have a problem with the mic muffling sound? People i'm calling complain they can't hear me when i have the headphones in.
if its anything like the vibrant it answers and ends calls and starts and stops music that all it did on the vibrant

I second this. I thought they were cheap-o's they threw in there.
I just tested mine out for the 1st time today.
The button will also play and pause music from the Subsonic app.
Too bad the sound quality in nowhere near my Sennheiser earbuds.
Anyone have a pair of Sennheiser MM 50 iPs plugged into their SGS2?
I'd love to know how well they work. .

is the speaker really quiet?

this is the only reason im skeptical about buying this phone
i usually share my music alot and sometimes im in loud areas and if someone calls me i might miss it
just wanted to ask if the speakers really quiet
Speaker volume is too quiet on galaxy nexus? - xda-developers http://bit.ly/vcAXMW
that doesn't answer my question ^
im not asking for an app that will boost the volume
im asking is the speaker actually that quiet?
Quiet speaker. No loudspeaker on the nexus.

If it's on your desk beside you, you'd hear it. If it's in your pocket, maybe not so much. I just leave mine on my vibrate unless it's in my field of vision.

An issue while connected to car via AUX

I've noticed an issue while you're connected through an AUX cable to your car. I generally use AUX to play music, but I also use it to answer calls. When you're phone is connected to AUX and you receive a call, the listener on the other end of the line cannot hear you no matter how loud you scream to the phone. I realized that soon as i pulled the cable from the phone, the person was able to hear me. AUX only outputted what the person was saying through my car speakers, but it did not let me talk. With the EVO 4G, this was not an issue. Just wanted to point this out. Any workarounds would be nice
Im having no issues with mine. I'm able to listen through my car speakers and talk into the phone. Are you rooted?

Im stock rooted, happens on normal too. This only occurs in a phone call. Make sure youre not doing voice commands or something. Can you confirm everything is working?

How is this an issue in stock? hmm. Can anyone on STOCK confirm this?
It may be your aux cable. It would seem as your phone believes you have a headset plugged in.
No its a known issue, but technically not an "issue". I already brought this up in our internal forums at sprint, and the reply given by one of the engineers was that they contacted Samsung, and this behavior was implemented by design. I brought it up because i noticed this behavior myself, and its since been confirmed. However, i thought when i had the issue it was when it was charging simultaneously? I can't remember.
Also, it was on stock.

This happened to me today. I thought the person on the other end was deaf. I was getting annoyed so I hung up.
I have to apologize now. I hope they fix it because it comes in handy while driving.

Glad it's confirmed i'm not the only one lmao.
I haven't experienced this my with E4GT in it's car dock (don't remember if it happens without a dock), but I used to get that constantly from my Palm Pre and this thread is reminding me of how frustrating that phone was!
This doesn't make sense because the tip of my (and I'm assuming your) aux cable looks like any other headphone jack so I'm not sure why it's problematic, but it must be just long enough to make a phone think it's a headset.
I use my aux cable every day and have never experienced this problem
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA App
Maybe it's something to do with the AUX cable?

How are some issue free?
I have the same issue when answering a phone call.
but the strange thing is when I plug in the aux cable, the voice & talk pop up and asks: what would you like to do?
the thing puzzles me is if phone's mic is able to listen under voice & talk, why not in phone conversation?
