Hey guys,
need some help with my htc desire. Just bhought it couple of days back. Everything worked good, until today, as wifi turned itself off after 10-15 min on standby and automatically connects to 3G instead. Even if i turn on the wifi, it will say that the wifi is on, but its not actually connected I have to restart the phone for it to connect with wifi again. And the same thing goes over and over again. Has this happened to anyone?
Please help! :S
I have the orignal firmware, not rooted.
Sort of happening to me too, but after the phone is asleep for long periods, like overnight.
For the past few days, I leave it with WiFi on when I go to sleep, I wake up and WiFi was off. I switch it back on and the phone doesn't seem to use wifi, or it does but just hangs.
Only started happening after the last hard reset, was working fine before that.
I do have the sleep after 15mins setting on, but obviously that shouldnt switch off the wifi, just let it sleeps and should reconnect after waking up.
Waiting for a exchange for another phone due to another issue, but will keep an eye on this, might be the Setting Profile app I've installed that's causing the issue.
My wifi switched off by itself after going standby for sometime.
After I wake up the phone, it will reconnect to the wifi. Not sure if there's app to prevent the wifi from going into standby though.

I have been using the phone for 6 days now, before this my phone could be on wifi all night, and when turned on in the morning the wifi will still be connected. Its strange this should happen now. I installed juicedefender yesterday and than uninstalled it again after trying it..might this has affected my wifi settings.
That's weird. I did installed Juice Defender and uninstalled it as well. Not sure if that's the cause. will do some search and see what I can find out.
FOUND!
We can actually control the Wifi Sleep policy by going to Settings> Wireless & Networks> Wifi Settings> Menu >Advanced> Wifi sleep policy!
Change it to never and it should work as before.

Yes, I know about that setting, but once you wake up the phone, it should wake the wifi and it should reconnect. This is not happening, and in some cases it does switch back on and connects, but doesn't get onto the internet. Seems the phone is still trying to use the cellular network.
Leave it on all the time eats up battery, so rather have it on sleep after 15mins

wow..ur fast..thanks! will try out this..and see until tomorrow if my phone is still shifting from 3g and wifi all the time
edit: yup..this was the reason. So now my wifi is connected 24/7 very happy for this as when it switched off before it started to use my 3G..i dont have unlimited plan so why pay for addional when u can use wifi at home
I have set the Wifi policy to "Always on".
Many times (but not every time) when my One X goes into sleep mode, all data connections don't work. I notice it because I feel so strange there is no notification from Whatsapp and Line as usual. So, I press the power button and see no data connection at all. After a few second, 3G data connection appears but no wifi. Wifi then replaces 3G a few second later.
It usually happens and I feel so annoyed as I lost communication with my colleagues when One X is sleeping.
Is there somewhere in "Setting" that can override the "Always on" in Wifi policy? If I miss it, please let me know.
I feel very disappionted with my One X as it contains a lot of bugs.

It's happening to me too, it's very frustrating because when turned on it show as connected while it's false.. and i'm unable to browse/etc without re enabling wifi manually.
Same issue on the One S. This is most likely a driver related problem or something. I think the next firmware update should fix this, but if anyone of you can provide a hotfix or something I wouldn't be sad
Getting the exact same problem.
I have not noticed this so far.
same problem with wifi....and in the nights my Data also gets switched off after sometime of inactivity...couldnt find any setting related to that....do any of you know any hidden setting for it?
Yeah it happening to me as well. It could be kernel related.
Same Here
Mine is opposite, I want it to sleep on screen off but it keeps reverting to always on. Quite frustrating as it is the major cause of my battery loss
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
Mine uses less battery with wifi on then normal 3g/4g

yeah same here, i've tested both over night and less battery used on wi-fi than 3g
I cant connect to my home wifi, it show connected then disconnect immediate
it no usaable now in my house
I just noticed this, too. Really annoying when you suddenly stop getting any notifications for E-Mails etc.
This is also not fixed in 1.28 :/.
I seem to only have this during the night hours, though. Like there is some sort of "Quiet Hours"-function but they forgot to put it in the settings >_<
I think this is the special Sleep Mode kicking in, and the WiFi Always-On is overridden by it.
When I turn the screen off, I can still ping my One X over the network. However, after some time (maybe 5-10 mins) it no longer responds and has dropped its WiFi connection.
The Always-On WiFi option has only ever applied to when the screen is off. The sleep mode thing is new and not related to android itself - an HTC hardware thing by the look of it.
Maybe it's fixable in the driver software, but I believe the "WiFi always on" function is behaving correctly - it's the new sleep state that is breaking it.
I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like.
If someone has the time, try setting up a PC to continuously ping the One X and see if it keeps it from going in to sleep mode.

Hello Dave,
Your analysis is quite impressive,
I also started dealing with this from "Special Sleep Mode" perspective.
I have got the FOTA, find data in my signature, and still suffering from the same issue.
To summarize my findings let me brief it:
When I first got the update, the problem seemed to be solved
I kept connected to my home WiFi router for several hours and got notifications from Whatsapp and Twitter
I thought the problem was solved and the bug was fixed, as I kept seeing my OneX on the WiFi Client on my router's managing interface on my PC
I shut down my phone, WiFi was on, and turn it back on
WiFi kicked in and connected with no problems,
An hour after, I sensed something wasn't good, notifications were silenced
I unlocked my phone and checked the status bar to find there were no DATA connections at all, nothing, no WIFi no Mobile Data, the usual bug
Now I started to think,
I Have got this problem after a full shut down, and at a battery below 15%
One thing to add,
I turned my phone off with WiFi enabled and when turned it on WiFi kicked in.
Now I am monitoring on the following basis.
I clicked all WiFi hot spots previously saved on my OneX and chose to "FORGET"
Connected to my preferred hotspot
Monitoring the WIFI, with battery over 15%, seems to be very healthy, more than an hour on sleep mode, and WiFi is on, uninterrupted and VERY CONNECTED
I will keep monitoring the behaviour till battery fall under 15% and will report back
I'll make sure to turn off WiFi before shutting down my phone if I have to, this is to eleminate the other variable and keep concentarting on one variable "Battery percentage"
A point to add:
On my previous Gingerbread SensationXE, there was an option on Settings> Battery to control phone's behavior and stop background sync and other activities when battery fall below a pre-defined percentage.
Default was 15%
I can't find this option on my One X, IceCream Sandwich
That's why I started to analyse the problem from the perspective of "Special Sleep Mode - Below 15%" bahaviour.
I will report back as soon as I have results.
Thank you
Update:
Started to experience same issue when battery falls below 50%.
All DATA gone down, no WiFI and no Mobile Data.
Charged my phone to 73%, "Forget" all WiFi network.
WiFi off
Monitoring Mobile Data only.
Mobile data gone down after 30 minutes sleep mode, 73% battery
Connecting to WiFi, and started monitoring WiFi
WiFi + Mobile Data gone down after 30 minutes.
Power down phone, and then on, 73% Battery, WiFi off
Monitoring Mobile Data only.
Failed, and disconnected
Failure
I've done a Factory Reset !!!
Update:
No problems on WiFi, nor Mobile data whatsoever for the whole day until battery falls below 10% !!!
WiFi disconnected after exactly 15 minutes, Mobile data kicks in, then disconnected as well !!!
I turn on the screen after 20 minutes to find NO DATA CONNECTION of any kind.
Mobile data kicks in, WiFi replaces mobile data, and start receiving all data dependent notifications!!!
I have the same problem, wifi is turned off sometimes when screen is locked.

Hello Pabson,
Thanks for sharing.
Would you provide more information about your phone's software number, your location (Region, not specific).
Thanks again.
Same here, tried several roms and the same happens with every ROM out there. What is more, I cannot connect to WIFI at work (WPA PSK) but I can connect perfectly to my home WIFI network.
Hopefully this is not a hardware fault and will be fixed.

If it happens on every single rom you you installed, then apparently this is a hardware fault.
What "Base" do the Roms, you installed, created on?!
I mean based on what version of RUU?
same problem here.
I mis the "power saving mode" options like in android 2.3
It might idd have something to do with power savings mode kicking in.
SOLVED: See this follow-up post; it's one of those 7 things!
Hi! After updating to LK3 (the stock 4.1.1 JB update), my Wi-Fi stays on even after I put the phone to sleep (contrary to the setting "Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep: never (increases data usage)." See attached pics.
I have disabled thus far:
1) Google Now
2) Location Services "Use wireless networks" and "Location and Google search"
3) Location reporting: now set to "Location manually selected on the map"
4) Latitude location sharing
5) Location history
6) Automatic check-ins
7) Check-in notifications
Basically, everything I could find related to location. But, alas, that battery screenshot is after I changed all of those! Wi-Fi isn't on constantly, but it stays on way longer than just when I have the screen on.
What are my options here? How should I diagnose this sucker? I ran BetterBatteryStats, but they said it looked fine with my log (some apps, through the ambiguous "Alarms" partial wakelock, were the largest cause, but only accounted for 3.6% of the time).
I'm pretty sure this is a post-update problem, as before, whenever I unlocked my phone, I got the little notification, "Connected to #SSIDName#" and the Wi-Fi icon would obviously, then, be off for the first few seconds (and when I opened my browser too quickly, I'd get a "Page cannot be displayed" error).
Thanks in advance, I'll take any ideas/thoughts/help/sympathy/antipathy you can offer,
Same problem here. Before the update, it was doubletwist air sync forcing wifi on at all times. That's disabled now, so I have not clue. Hopefully somebody figures it out. Mine isn't even intermittent, it's always on, and I have the same setting as you.
So, I left my phone alone for the night and these programs used Wi-Fi while the screen was off:
Do you have any of the same apps? I'm going to uninstall Google+, Facebook, and GroupMe today and run this again tomorrow. But, looking at pure download amount, it's something on the OS....
If you're interested in doing the same, the app is My Data Manager ( https://play.google.com/store/apps/...e&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=my+data+manager).
Basically, install the app, but do not open it. When you're ready for bed (or any extended period of not using it), open it, and then minimize it (runs in the background). Hit your sleep button immediately (we don't want to capture anything of the phone when the screen is on). Then, when you wake up/need to use it, wake it up, immediately disable Wi-Fi (again, no artifacts from when the phone was awake), take a look at My Data Apps (2nd page), Wi-Fi.
I'll let you know how my second attempt goes.
The only one I have is Facebook, but yeah it definitely looks like the os.

Well! Maybe I should have given it a little while longer, as it seems to be quite a bit better!
It still stays on longer than the screen, but now at least it shuts off once in a while, haha. It was either uninstalling Facebook, gMail, or GroupMe OR disabling one of those earlier settings...it's still not totally fixed, though. I found the Network Counter app which seems to be a little more specific, so we'll see how it goes tonight,
~Ibrahim~
Hmm this is what mine looks like from today. Wifi didn't go off until I did it manually.

Have you disabled the location stuff? Those are what really helped me. I'm off to run the overnight test, with the new app!
i am having the same issues. my wifi since the jelly bean update has been always on.... the wifi bar in battery settings is solid and has never been off.... so frustrating.
Try "Green Power" app.
I use it to disable both wifi and data 20secs after screen off.
There is a Whitelist and a minimum threshold trigger too.
It works PERFECT in ICS.
At bedtime, I get .5% hr battery drain or better.

Awesome, thanks for the info! Exactly, I don't mind Google Now using the Wi-Fi, but then that opens the door for everything to use the Wi-Fi which will kill the battery when I get back to work.
Network Manager didn't work for some reason, so I tried Data Detective, but the stupid app consumed 90% of the Wi-Fi last night!
The only thing I've heard against battery savers is that they force apps to not use the data, and then they keep asking (creating overhead). I wouldn't have believed it out right except it came from the developer of BetterBatteryStats. But your battery loss isn't bad at all (overnight I average 0.4%/hour with the screen off).

I slightly edited my statement. I get .5% hr or better.
Curious...if you average .4%...
- what rom?
- and what is your lowest cpu freq?
- and is that with data and wifi off?

Hi, I saw many posts related to this topic Wi-Fi turns off when phone in deep sleep but not able to find a single working solution.
My phone runs on 4.2.1 with wi-fi sleep policy set to NEVER ( that means always on ideally ) , and tried turning on / off wifi optimization, avoid poor connections is not ticked.
Even after doing everything the wifi is turned off after sometime and when i turn on Screen it turns it back! How to do I solve this?? I am using STOCK rom, with just root.. No other battery saver etc. app installed.

well i have this problem too on every jelly bean rom. the only rom without this problem in cm10 stable. now i'm with cm10.1 hoping they'll fix it like in cm10.
when that problem comes out just toggle on and off airplane mode and it should disappear until next wifi toggle off and on.
I hope google will solve it in key lime pie
CM 10.1 has only just started doing this in the last week or so, it was fine before. Was wondering if it was just me with this issue or not...

Am i correct in understanding that you don't want it to disconnect? The option in the settings is "Keep wifi on during sleep". If you have it at Never, then it will disconnect when the phone goes into sleep. It should be placed on Always because you want it to be on even during sleep
Flowed and Tapped from my Nexus
fixed the wifi problem
Heya! My first post!!!
So, i had the same problem on my Allview P5 Quad.
The guys from Allview released an update for my phone based on 4.2.1 and i thought the problem was from them. I had WiFi turned on and after a few minutes from entering sleep mode, the WiFi got disconnected, both WiFi and data. I have installed the last update again and again, rooted, unrooted, tried every option from WiFi and i still had the same problem.
So i timed the time when the WiFi disconnects and it was exactly 6 minutes. So i thought that it must be an option that does this. So i unchecked the Quick Power Saving icon from Switches and ... SURPRISE! My WiFi stays on continuously. So, the problem is from the system power saving settings. I hope this helps all of you.
P.S. Love this forum! Thanks for all your help!
I believe I found the problem, some how it is not the phone but my wifi router (and all routers) is the problem. Go into your router settings and look for the "Beacon Interval" and set that number to 50. I'm not going to explain what the beacon interval is, go google it and you will see. I switched mine and now the wifi on my phone does not switch off when in deep sleep.

Assuming you are on 5.0.1 Lollipop, did you factory reset after the update? Many people have experienced problems after the update but have seen factory resets correct problems.
While on the wifi settings page (the screen where you find the list of wifi networks available), touch the three dots in the upper right corner and select Advanced.
Uncheck (turn off) the option to "Always allow scanning"
You can also turn off the first option of Network notification to stop it from trying to find open networks in range.
hope this helps.

Weird... mine does.
Are you running any special apps (like battery savers)? What Wifi settings are you using? Is Power Saving Mode on or off?
I'm curious now. But yeah, several Note 4 users on the non-ATT Note 4 thread are reporting this issue as well and so were many Nexus users.

No battery savers or apps designed to conserve battery; power saving modes off. All I did to wifi settings was turn off scanning and notification. I have a long list of apps that I disabled since I knew for sure I wasn't going to use them. I screenshot them below if you're interested.

Ok I was wrong. My phone doesn't show wifi always on. I kept wifi off all day and it showed correctly. BUT I think it did show as always awake on the previous Lollipop update. (I'm on COC4 now).
And btw, I have all the same apps turned off as you except Samsung Push Service because it seems to not sync S Note with my Samsung account (I have a Note tablet too) and Amazon because I use it.
Update
I did some further digging , based on the amount of battery used.
1. Cerberus App was using a lot of battery, so uninstalled and re-installed it... the Constant AWAKE problem is gone
waiting a few days to make sure that problem was really gone
2. Uninstalled "LLAMA" app and now WiFi does NOT show as always on
Having the exact same issue on my galaxy s6. Just turned on clash after picking up the phone and the resolution looks like as compared to my joke Moto X (2013). It's worst when zoomed way out and fine when zoomed way in. Maggie everywhere. What the **** supercell.
