[Q] Help! Flashing a French model to UK stock - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So I received my Arc S today in the UK, and it's a French model - I knew it'd be a European model of some sort when I ordered, so that's fine.
But even though I've set the language to English, I'm still finding a few things in French and it seems like my UK network can't detect what phone I have, and I'm unable to get a data connection.
Can someone tell me if it's possible to flash a generic stock or O2-UK stock rom to it please? I used to have a HTC Sensation and have experience rooting and custom rom'ing with that. My current build number is 4.0.2.A.0.42.
Do I root and flash the stock firmware from this page?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1204302
So to build number 4.0.A.2.368, to be clear. Will that give me all the generic/UK stock options instead of French video services, Canal+ and Jeux Gameloft?! I really don't need a custom rom, in fact I want it to be as much like I've just bought it from a UK supply as possible and don't even need rooting or the bootloader unlocked at the end of it if that can be avoided.
Your help is much appreciated in advance!

Thanks! It doesn't seem to have a generic UK firmware - only Central Europe 1/2/3 without listing the difference - but I've emailed Wotanserver to see if they can advise.
Is their method safe, do you know?

02 UK Deisre abroad will it update to 2.2

as per subject
My Desire was bought from O2, so has it's firmware.
I'm moving abroad next month, will I still get an update to 2.2 ?
I won't be using O2.. will that stop me ?
Would I be better flashing it with a generic rom ?
Thanks

It's about choice...
Why you need flashing? if you Desire daily usage for Phone, SMS, Chat and Check Email and little bit Browse the net.. I think wait until official release for Desire much better than Rooted/Flashing your phone
Thanks for the reply.
I'd prefer not to flash or root it if I can help it.
The question really is will a UK O2 Desire automatically upgrade to 2.2 if used in New Zealand, with Vodafone ?
Thanks
Probably not. My understanding is that receiving updates is dependent on your current version. I'm on Meteor in Ireland, for example, but I won't receive any specific Meteor updates, because I have the generic HTC firmware.
So if you're on a kiwi network, with the O2 software, you'll get neither the HTC update nor any update your new network rolls out.
So either debrand now and get the HTC update whenever it's released, or wait until it comes out and flash the 2.2 rom directly.
One other thing you could do is take it to Vodafone in New Zealand and ask them to flash their own software on it. Since you're a new customer, they'll most likely oblige.
But that's if they even stock the Desire, btw. If they don't you'll have to do it yourself.
One thing to keep in mind re:carrier specific firmwares is that it may take an awfully long time for upgrades to trickle down. You could be looking at an additional month or more between HTC releasing it and your carrier releasing it.
And even when they do, they might disable certain features (wi-fi tethering, for example, isn't too popular with mobile operators)
Thanks
that is what I'd thought..
I suppose the only other thing would be if O2 released it for download, then I could manually install it !!
Are there still issues with wifi and the generic rom ?
Yeah, that's another way. Bookmark this link:
http://shipped-roms.com/shipped/Bravo/
The only issues were with people who people who debranded their phone and flashed to the generic rom. But for anybody else, there's no issues whatsoever.
Thanks
If I change the ROM is there any risk ? I'm not bothered about root, but would like to have the option of 2.2 when I'm not in the UK.
can you point me to a firmware flashing guide ?
Thanks again.
Well this is the latest (generic) rom update:

Very easy to install. Just download the .exe to your PC, and open it while your phone is plugged in. The installer will walk you through.
I don't know if it's that simple for branded phones though. You might have to debrand first... I honestly couldn't say. You might ask in that thread and list your FW number. Maybe somebody else will know.
You're sure it's a branded phone, yes? There's no .405 in the version number?
My firmware is : 1.20.207.3 CL171460 release-keys
I'll ask in the other forum.
Thanks

[Q] Flashing a French Arc S to UK Stock

Hi all
I hope I've posted this in the right place.
I have a stock French Arc S that I'd like to be flashed to a stock UK model - at the moment, although my phone is in English, a few of the icons are still in French and I also have some France-specific apps.
Can anyone tell me the simplest way to flash the phone? Do I need to root, etc.? I used to have a HTC Sensation, and rooted and custom rom'ed that, so I'm not a complete dunce.
It's possible I might flash a custom rom in the future, but my experience with the Sensation wasn't too hot. I basically would flash to custom to remove Facebook, Twitter etc. integration as I have no need nor interest. But stock UK (generic or O2) is better than stock French for me!
Thank you very much in advance,
schnide
Is your bootloader locked? If the answer is yes, you may have two safe options: (i) flash the UK's FTF file to your phone using FlashTool, and (ii) flash the stock UK FW using WotanServer.
For (i), you need the tool below. I don't have such FTF, so you'll need to search a little. Don't post another thread, SEARCH.
[TOOL/LT15] [UPDATE 15/01/2012] Flashtool version 0.6.7.0 - Windows / Linux
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000012
[EDIT] 4.0.2.A.0.62 firmware for Xperia Arc S
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1408142
Just found a FTF. Not UK but a FTF though. As I said, search.
For (ii), see WotanServer's website:

well why don't you need french version .
If it's just about the junk apps that comes preloaded with your phone .
Just root your phone and start deleting theme easily .
you don't need to flash a new ROM .

Yes, you can install stock rom without any problems.
And where can I get it? the links I saw in a different thread are all broken...
If anyone who has the Rom could host it somewhere I would appreciate it

You can use flashtool programm you will find the firmware in the thread just search it and flash whatever firmware you want you can't update via ota/pc if bootloader is unlock(first you must locked again) or if you change something from /system
i hope i help you.
Thing is I dont have the fw I want, only have custom roms, and all the links are broken (they were from multiupload), so I would like someone to upload them again.
Thank you all for your help

It looks useful for all who's lookin for the original ROM.
Thanks guys, that worked perfectly.
One last question is Waton server always updated? I mean do they supply all the new roms? ICS is coming out soon for the xperia arc s
I have wiped all my system & dont have backup.
I Have Xperia Arc S LT18i
SI 1254-9037
But could not find the exact firmware sor SI 1254-9037 (this is Saudi Arabia sales item)
I found below ones to download, whic one will be proper for Turkey? And will it be a problem to flash?
4.1.B.0.587
Generic Trade Central Europe 1 (4.0.4) (1254-2716)
or
4.1.B.0.431
Generic Trade Turkey (4.0.4) (1254-2233)
Central Europe is made up of the following.....
Germany
Poland
Czech Republic
Slovakia
Switzerland
Austria
Slovenia
Hungary
But it will work on your device (its the update to 4.1.B.0.431)
If you want your fone back to original then stick with the Generic Trade Turkey file as Im not sure if you've had the update over there yet
Thank you wolf_b
indeed, this phone comes from Saudi Arabia
SI 1254-9037 (this is Saudi Arabia sales item) But also have Turkish language option.
But I couldnt find anything original about it, neither gingerbrea nor ICS.
So I just want to be sure, if anything negative will be happen if I flash a different SI distribution.
This is the question: If no problem, I downloaded Generic Trade Central Europe 1 (4.0.4) (1254-2716),
this is the latest ICS update of Sony. I guess it will also have Turkish Option!
What do you suggest?

Flash Polish device to UK firmware?

Hi guys, sorry if this is a dumb question but not used HTC device since WinMo days so kind of lost.
My Dad bought this device cheap but its in Polish, I changed the language but I want to flash UK firmware on for him. He wont be needing root or custom kernel etc so just want to know the easiest method of getting stock UK rom on for him?
Thanks in advance.
Flash an EU RUU.......that should probably do the trick
Make sure it's software version is more than your current rom

Question Flashing ROM on Fold 3 - chinese to australian

One of our Chineese suppliers has gifted me a New Fold 3. The issue is the stock Chinese Rom, or rather the restrictions that come with it (nerfing most google based services, and apps i use all the time.). The device is great but restrictions applied give you a feeling of a second class android user, with core sevices absent: Play store, youtube, gmail, maps, chrome, android auto., can't even apporve family link download requests from kids. etc. etc.
I have made the choice i would rather go back to my S21 if i can't resovle this issue, as phone is useless like this.
Advice required on Loading Australian Rom via odin.
The phone model is: SM-F9260 which only seems to have overseas Rom available for download. Can i successfully load a ROM made for model SM-F926B (Australian) on a SM-F9260?
All the how to guides specifically say jou must select the same model number, and i don't want a brick it. Will have mud on my face next time i see the supplier if i have bricked their gift to me.
Any feedback/advice from users with more experience with odin and flashing would be appreciated.
Both are on Snapdragon CPU so shouldn't be any problem to flash it with PIT over the Odin.
But I never done it so I can't give you 100% answer.

Update: The AU version gave me an Auth Failed in Odin. Chances i could have resovled by unlocking the Bootloader which i didn't want to risk tripping the e-fuse. I ended up just using the Taiwan version which had the identical model number, and falls in the same region as China. Odin flashed without complaint. The taiwan version has no restrictions on google services, and once you set the language its hard to tell it from a regular AU one; unless you know what you are looking for that is.

Technically there are ways, just it is very grey as to when/how you trip the e-fuse. Some say if you simply unlock the bootloader and restart, others say when you load a bootloader that doesn't match model numbers, or is older than your current, or isn't offical samsung one. I personally don't know exactly. I do however know that i didn't trip the e-fuse when i loaded the taiwan version, and i didn't have to unlock the bootloader in developer options to achevie this.

oh. Good to know. Just wondering..Did you trip your e-fuse? If so when did it happen? Did you try extracting the PIT file from the CSC and using the PIT tab in odin? with the re-parition option selected?

you won't have the chance to trip. there is some check before the boot image is integrated. so it failed showing some error, auth or secure check failed etc etc.
if you flash variant home csc you will trip
TBH, I consider the Chinese version is the best version above all other region. The dual sim is enable on Chinese version, 512GB is the only available option.
As for google service. You don't need to change the Chinese firmware to Australian to enable it, the GMS is pre-installed. All you need to do is to find a way to install the google series apps as apk by yourself, it would work just fine.

BTW, the only version that Chinese region Fold 3 can change is the HongKong firmware, all other regions are not available. If you use Chinese region Fold 3 in Australia, the only thing you need to concern is the Samsung Pay, but Samsung Pay is fixed by the region and cannot be changed by switching the regional firmware.

Each to their own, if you like the chinese version great. I hated it, restrictions in every aspect of the firmware. I personally am unsure how you rate the chinese version better, when it is loaded with restrictions and hard coded settings that can't be changed, or if they can it is really a sub par workaround. Settings that are not present in standard android builds. What exactly does it have extra that makes it better? If you like it thou that is all that matters.
I loaded the taiwan version which yes is really just the hong kong version. No restrictions, no issues. Now it works just like any other standard samsung android build, you get in AU. Yes samsung pay that use the firmware version doesn't work great, but i prefer google pay anyway. No need to stuff around with downloading apk files from third party sites, for core functions. No need to even enable developer tools.
The chinese version sounds like driving a ferrari on a go karting track.....
Can you flash the Chinese or any international dual sim version to work in the US ?
