Hi there,
i see a lot of thread with lists of must-have apps for Android. But what about must-have apps optimized for Android 4.0 (or 3.0) ?
You know, the ones using the native Action Bar (no menu button in the Navigation Bar), Holo themes and following the awesome new design guidelines ?
For now, i've just found Dropbox, and some of Google's apps (Reader and Earth for exemple).
Do you have some more ? I'ld love to see a nice and simple file manager for exemple.
Root Explorer is ICS optimized and works great
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I have just been thinking about this too.
Due Today is ICS optimised and looks great.
BeyondPod is not quite there yet. Recent updates mean that the now playing screen look very nice but the other screens still need work and the settings are still in the wrong place.
Thanks!
I tested both free versions of Due Today and Root Explorer, and none of them are using the Holo theme nor Action Bar (for exemple). Maybe the paid version are.
Actually, even some Google Apps aren't really ICS optimized (Google Navigation and Google Goggles for exemple), which is kinda disappointing.
Dropbox, Gigbeat, MX Video Player, SmartPhone, Ultimate Stopwatch
there's also podkicker to check out for podcasts

Reddit is fun is starting to use the ICS theme
Netflix is. It hides the nav buttons. Not in terms of UI though if that's what you mean.
Bacon Reader for Reddit has a nice interface that is ICS-ish
Yup, i was talking about UI mainly, but those kind of compatibility are welcome (but sadly no Netflix here in France).
Just tested Gigbeat (already awesome on Gingerbread) and MX Video Player : that's exactly what i'm looking for, thanks!
I'll try to update the first post with those apps.
Sweet

Does anyone know what widget he is using in this video (0:03-0:10):
Search YouTube for:
Xperia PLAY - El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron (Action)
It's the first video that comes up. I can't post links yet.
doesnt seem to be a widget imho - rather the laucher - or at least some app organizer.
Since there is the BIG Apps/Games font above the items it seems to be some windows phone 7/metro UI related thing.
Maybe that helps you searching it.
But wwhy not just ask him on youtube? Fastest way....
it's sslauncher

Well, it's not really a leak since the source is available - the XBMC guys have chosen not to make an APK available yet because it's not complete (lack of hardware accelerated video playback comes to mind). Anyway, the APK is from here: https://www.miniand.com/forums/forums/1/topics/136. It may be worth looking there from time to time as they say they plan to keep the APK updated.

So far iv only used 3 skins, 2 work perfect and the 3rd also works but there are some menus you cant assess like when you press left arrow on remote/keys.
Its not playing my MP3 over WIFI but it plays Videos in MKV and other file formats with sound but low FPS,
Movies,Pictures and most other things work fine when played from the SDcard/stick
UI is very small but usable.
Looks very promising

Im finding the menu issue is present with my favourite skin... Neon. Although I can get the sideways ones to pop out sometimes. I eventually managed to get the movies into slide view.... After lots of swiping and button pressing. I still dont know what made it pop out. Havent managed to get the to pop up when the view menu is at the bottom though so I cant get out of slide view.
All my mkvs etc play awesome straight from my network drive smooth as hell looking great

Crashes
Anybody else tried playing with this?
I had an old version that ran, but after downloading the nightlies lately, non of them run, they crash with an error that they can not load libxbmc.so, I checked the app libs folder and it is present and non-zero but it still doesn't load.
Anyone have any idea why?
My GS3 is stock, rooted 4.0.4 (BLG8).

Cya!
My list from a few other threads, but very relevant here since everyone is probably wondering what "app" to get.
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnAJoa0-ynONdGJiVDRSQ0p4VGtCaklESmtEbkJzNUE
edit: you guys can add to it ^_^
Great list, a few I couldn't live without:
Badass Battery, 4.7
Mobi Calculator, 4.8
FX File Explorer, 4.7
N7 Player, 4.7
Gtasks, 4.5
DIGI Clock Widget, 4.6
Palmary Weather, 4.5
GasBuddy, 4.6
YouAreHere, 4.7
Navfree, 3.8
Widgetsoid2, 4.6
I've found some of the widgets by this dev are excellent and he supports them very well if you mail him.
The Pure Grid calendar widget has options for tablet size widgets, multiple calendars, colour coding etc.
Also imho HDR Camera+ should be up there with ZoomFX
OP - amazing list!
That is a very clean and comprehensive list of apps you have OP. Thanks for posting... I am definitely going to try some of them out.

Here's my Android tablet list of "best of breed" apps:
GTasks - syncs with Google Notes, has reminders, great widgets. Augments my calendar for many things. Free.
Dark Knight - good tablet chess app. Free+no ads.
AndroXplorer - first-rate file explorer with CIFS support. Free (minor advert), but I bought Pro with my Play credit. Better than all the others I've tried and has proper tablet interface.
SuperSU - fine-grained control of root permissions. Free+no ads, Pro has some sweet features, bought it.
AdAway - prevents ads from even downloading. Probably the biggest performance booster you can get. Free, no ads. This is one of the killer apps that will hook you on Android.
System Tuner - you won't believe the crap that starts up automatically. Fix it with this free app (minor ads). Pro is worth it.
AnkiDroid - Can't believe it's free w/o ads. Flashcards app to study nearly anything, many study decks available. Better than the $25 Anki iPad app which I bought.
Cool Reader - ebook reader, lots of useful features. Free and ad-free.
Aldiko Pro - slick reader, works with most formats, worth the $3.
Apps I'd like but which don't work yet:
Moon+ Reader (incl Pro) is broken on Jelly Bean, doesn't show text. When it works I'll buy Pro again.
Encore Learning Platform - free, no-ads, flashcards app.
If I could have clicked the "Thanks" icon 10 times for supplying us with this great database I would have. But I couldn't so THANK YOU X 10!

MX Player is a sweet video player.
ADW launcher is still a good launcher. I use it on my ICS Transformer. Apex is my favorite though.
WiFi File Explorer is easily the most handy app for transferring data between devices.
XDA App!!!
Rom Manager
Word Feud - online scrabble clone
Android Pro Widgets for scrollable Twitter and Facebook
Thumb Keyboard
Delver - awesome 8bit Dungeon crawling FPS
Sixaxis PS3 Bluetooth Controller pairing.
Tango for video chatting
Netflix and Redbox
Deadly Dungeons - another dungeon crawling game I found today.
Bluetooth OnCall - Enables/Disables BT for calls. Great for headset users to save battery.
DailyHoroscope - its always spot on.
Notification Toggle for CM style notification menu power toggles.
I the above apps are my core apps.
Also my transformer used Polaris Office which I really liked too.
Some apps were mentioned above. I think most weren't mentioned.

If you know any unique or useful applications, games or widgets please suggest them in this thread so I can check them out. If I think they're good, I'll add them to the list.
*NOTE* - If you wish to know what the best app is regarding your needs, ask in this thread and I, or others, will be able to help you out.
So, if you want to know what the best music player is, ask here and I'll suggest the best ones available.
If there are any apps that you feel shouldn't be in this list, please let me know and suggest a better one. I can then test it and maybe add it to the list, in place of the other one.
If you don't suggest a better app, I won't change anything.
[INFO]Must Have Apps For Galaxy SII
The idea to add widgets into this thread aswell was an idea taken from Goku80 and I hope you lot like it.
So, the list in this post is strictly for widgets. I'll add some widgets myself as a base, but as always feel free to suggest some of your favorite widgets and they may make it into this list.
1. Beautiful Widgets - Beautiful set of Widgets containing clock widget, clock and weather widget, weather widgets, date widgets and toggle widgets with skins/themes support!
2. Fancy Widgets - Personalize your Android home screen with highly customizable clock widgets, weather widgets, home (clock & weather) widgets, forecast widgets, and more with lots of customization options.
3. Ultimate custom widget (UCCW) - If you enjoy customizing the look of your homescreen then this is pretty much a MUST HAVE app for you. It allows the user to create their own pure custom clocks with a near endless array of options to customize it how they'd like. However you want it, you can make it with UCCW.
4. Desktop VisualizeR - Here's another really useful widget if you love to customize your screens. This gives you the ability to make shortcuts and widgets with any image you specify, rather than just the default logos. You can also use this app to give apps a custom icon of your own, which is handy if your icon design doesn't currently exist.
5. Minimalistic Text - Minimalistic Text is a widget app that displays information in a minimalistic way. It can be configured to display time, date, battery and weather information. The layout of the widget is highly customizable throughout.
6. Eye In The Sky Weather - This is for all those who like their weather clean, simple and beautiful. The app includes 12 of the best weather icon sets and the ability to add your own icon sets.
[INFO]Must Have Apps For Galaxy SII
Due to popular demand via PMs, I've decided to add a slot to this thread to display some of the best games we can get on our Android device.
As with the app list above, if there's a great game you'd like to be added to this list, let me know and I may well add it in
1. Pool Break Lite - If you like to play pool, snooker, billiards etc. on the go then this is a great app you. There are a few different variations to play in either single player or multiplayer online mode and even more variations if you buy the pro version.
2. FIFA 12 - This game speaks for itself. It's the latest mobile version of the FIFA franchise and is easily the best so far, with it showing vast improvements. There's a load of different cups and leagues to play through and with great graphics with no lag in the slightest.
3. World Series Of Poker - Probably the best game from EA (in my opinion). If you like to play poker I totally recommend this game. You can play Texas Holdem and Omaha in either cash games, tournaments or play for a WSOP bracelet as the main prize. Guest mode is now available for no login from Facebook is needed.
4. iAssociate2 - This is a good choice if you prefer a bit of a brain tester. iAssociate2 is a word association game you have to figure out which words and phrases are associated to each other. Sound easy? Give it a try and you can soon find out differently.
5. Need For Speed Most Wanted - Another brilliant addition to the EA family, Most Wanted finally brings one of the best racing experiences to Android. It's a brilliant game all round but the only thing it's lacking, in my opinion, is 'free roam' mode. But apart from that, it brings brilliant graphics and flawless gameplay.
6. Grand Theft Auto III - Grand Theft Auto III was a crime game which changed the future of gaming and is amazing to play on the go with our Androids. The full console game with great graphics, full features and surprisingly no lag considering it's such a huge game. Countless hours of gameplay, HD quality resolution and visually stunning graphics make this a must for our devices.
thanks that was i time saver

I have two note 8.0 tablets... One with JB, which is awesome, and a KK version from eBay. I have both running stock OS and rooted with Google stuff removed. Customized using framework modules on both.
4.4.x has a broken governor, which makes for a terrible time with media apps. Music stutters when screen blanks, video playback issues, and a lackluster multitasking ability makes it less fun than JB.
To compensate I must run performance profile to clean up governor control with media apps. Some work better with ondemand and others may need other settings.
I upped my kk to use Note 4.0 Tablet Touchwiz and S5 apps including file manager. Could not do it without app settings to adjust DPI per app basis.
KK version looks cool and works OK, but I prefer JB even though it is less tweaked with out ui and s5 apps.
