[Q] ARHD 6.3 Skins, sluggish - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone, I am having a mild problem. When I open a skin I downloaded with a theme from my file manager, and click install, it says it installed. So I go to personalize, click skin, but they are never there. Just the 3 stock skins(burgundy etc.) with htc. Can anyone help me to get the skins to show?
Also on ARHD 6.3 and previous versions I get noticeable lag and slowness. I use quadrant as a comparative to what my phone will normally run. For instance on a fresh restart my phone hits about 2600 o/c at 1.69. After a couple hours of the restart I notice it gets slow and when loading webpages its very slow and when running intense games it gets slow, so I benchmark it and every time it gets slow I get around 1600. If I do another restart I'm back up to 2600 with extremely noticeable improvement. Any ideas why? Do I need to flash a different kernel or something? Please help and thanks!

what skin files r u trying to use? the HTC official skins shouldnt need to be installed via a file manager u just need login to the HTC Sense account and download it normally like in a stock DHD. any other skins that i know of you have to flash via CWM or EXT4 Recovery, unless u are using the no-sense ARHD of which u use ADW or LauncherPro or any other launcher.
I havent had a problem with the HTC official ones tho the flashed ones (themes by kalagas, he_stheone64, etc) have small bugs in it that causes it to be sluggish, for me it was the facebook that came with the flashed skin, updating facebook to the latest one fixed it.
apart from that, did u do a full wipe before hand with the Super Wipe script? u have to do a superwipe if you came from any other rom or ARHD6.2.0, also do not restore data or apps using titanium or mybackup, doing this creates slowdown bugs.
if u want to backup contacts or calendar just use the built in google account sync.
Another thing i can think of is make sure you untick "backup my data" or something like that under "privacy" in settings so the phone doesnt try to download sync data and apps from your previous rom. *Doing this wont affect the contacts or calendar sync. So when you boot the rom it will be clean and stock arhd.
hope it helps

I understand that for the HTC stock skins, I don't have a problem with those. I mean like the IceHD theme, and skin. When I go to install his skin after I get theme flashed it says it installed but I never see it as an option to change under personalize>skins like he had stated, as well as others.
As for ARHD, I had backup my settings enabled so I will see if this is the problem. But if I want to ever back up app data what should I use so I won't just get lag when I do?

You do realise the IceHD theme is for sense 3.5 he_stheone64 has not released one for Sense 3.0.
ARHD uses sense 3.0,
for ARHD you can use HoneyHD, BlueHD, etc; just make sure they're Sense 3.0 and as for them appearing in the menu they overwrite the basic HTC sense skin (the original skin on first boot).
If you want to use IceHD u need the Runnymede based roms with Sense3.5
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1261721
why just use the ICS theme, why not flash ICS, its alright so far, im using the virtuous quattro RC1 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1428047
Also ignore quadrant scores, since you might have installed different apps or some apps maybe updating in the background after a reboot, it will consume different CPU power at that time, so as long as it feels smooth its working fine. for ARHD install the 90% super smooth rosie under custom modifications, it will limit the 3d effect of the homescreen to reduce lag.
The sluggishness in the middle of the day is also caused by the android memory management, gingerbread will automatically suspend "closed" apps so it can be recalled quickly if u decide to open them later. but after opening a few apps earlier, then later u decide to open a high memory app, the system will kill those apps down (including the rosie homescreen app) while launching the new app to make room - this is also the cause for lag. U can use the built in task manager to kill off an app, but this may cause instabilities in some cases.

Ahhhh, well Restorer ported it to sense 3.0, and preacher added hamdirs mods to it, its real nice, so i use that one. Im not going full ICS until its fully stable, like camera lol. As for the lag stuff your probably right its just real annoying sometimes when I am trying to do something like intense gaming. thanks for your help!

[Q] Uncommon Sense won't recoqnice Google account.

So in my ever continuing quest to find a ROM that works for me I think I may have finally found it, Uncommon Sense 1.1 I think it's an older ROM but it's exactly what I'm looking for, the stability of Sense but the launcher and lock screen look like AOSP Android. I flashed it last night and I loved it but I had a huge problem, so huge I went back and loaded a nandroid of my previous ROM, Senseless rEVOlution. When I loaded the ROM for the first time I loaded the ROM it wouldn't let me enter my Google account information. The option to do so was greyed out and when I tried to select it nothing happened, though it still let me enter the information for my Comcast.net email account. Then when I tried to open the market and the Gmail apps I immediately was sent back to the home screen, I didn't even get a forced close error. I went into settings>accounts and sync and found no option to add a Google account. I checked all my running applications but there was no opstion to update or uninstall the market (version 2.2.7). As a last resort I went to the web based market to download Astro file manager to my hone but it said that it was already installed and wouldn't let me install it again. I tried downloading another file manager (I forget what it's called) but it never downloaded to my phone. Finally I jut got fed up and restored my nandroid of Senseless rEVOlution. Not only did everything work the way it should but that other file manager had downloaded to my Senseless rEVOlution nandroid backup somehow. I really don't get it. I really want to use this ROM but this problem needs to be solved first. Doed anyone have know what the problem might be? Shoulf I unsync my Google account from Senseless rEVOlution and flash Uncommon Sense again?
Oh and I should mention that I culdn't get any of the apps and widgets that were installed, like the HTC colck widget, to recognixe my location. This too was fixed upon loading the Senseless rEVOlution nandroid.
Sounds like that the GAPPS weren't (aren't?) installed in Uncommon Sense 1.1? Try redownloading it from XDA and don't do the install if it is listed in ROM Manager. Flash the zip. Do a full wipe - factory user data reset/dalvik cache a few times, then flash the zip and see what happens.
Thanks RMarkwald. I flashed the ROM without the gapps package and everything now works like it should. This really is an old ROM, it even comes with the really old version of the market brfore it was redesigned (it has since updated to the most recent version). My only concern is that it is so old that my phone wants to install a system update, and with ll the recent talk about carriers cracking down on root users and Verizon tracking who is rooted and who isn't by tracking who;s phone takes updates and who;s doesn't I'm reluctand to take the update yet I can't get my phone to stop notifying me about it. Other then that great ROM.
There was a fix to get rid of that, I don't remember what it was but most devs have incorporated it into roms now. I'll look around but do a search for like remove OTA update notification or something to see what you find.

You can use Skyraider 3.5 with the uncommon pack, it adds the launcher, app drawer and status bar of uncommon. It doesn't have musicmod, but it has pretty much everything else.

Need help after wiping rooted Incredible

Ok so I have a rooted incredible, I just wiped all the data using the option in the settings>storage>factory data reset and then since some email accounts and all of my app icons were still there I wiped all the data using the clockworkmod tool that is on my phone from rooting.
Now for my questions:
If i look under "all" in the manage applications utility there are a bunch of HTC/Android apps that are listed in there but only as 0.0b in size. Is that unusual?
Some of these apps include:
3g mobile hotspot
android live wallpapers
android system
app sharing
bluetooth share
calculator
car panel
"copyright"
etc.
Some of these like car panel are ones that I moved into a different folder when I rooted so the incredible wouldn't see them. Is it normal for all these to be listed at 0.0b?
I also seem to have a lot more processes running than before, some processes that appear to be new that are running now are:
EPST
Google Partner Setup
HTC Message Uploader
MCC_OTA
Media Container Service
My Uploads
Pico TTS
Updater
Open Sense Plugin Manager
I don't think most of these were running before I wiped the phone, which ones of these are excessive and how do I get them to stop running?
Would I just be better off looking for a stock 2.2 ROM that has all the bloatware removed ahead of time? If so do you guys know where I could find one?
Version
Are you currently running stock android 2.2?
I've never heard of apps showing up as 0 bytes. Maybe the data their storing is 0 bytes but not the app istelf.
If you're already rooted I would go for some of the newer ROMs. You can jump on plenty of good froyo 2.2 roms (incredible list, Rom Mananger, XDA, etc), however you might consider some of the new Gingerbread roms that are coming out.
I ran stock 2.2 for a while and I'm telling you, almost ANY ROM out there is better than stock (bye bye bloatware!)
Thanks, Yea I was thinking my best bet is to just flash a ROM. It will be my first time doing it so I've got a little bit of reading do to so that I don't mess anything up. I was thinking of going with Liberation ROM since I'm so used to the sense UI http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1087268 . Let me know if theres another ROM I should be lookin into, I'll be flashing this after work today I think.
Thought
Since this is a first time go around for you I would reccomend you download Rom Manager from the Market (download the free version and then pay for the donate version. It's a few bucks but well worth it). This will give you Premium Rom Manager. This application has a section where you can download Roms. You'll see a bunch of different Developers so find Ihtfp69. He has a rom called Skyraider Sense 3.5. This is probably my all time favorite Froyo Sense Rom. When you download the Rom and it wants to install make sure you do a full wipe of everything and make a backup of your current Rom (in case you want to go back later).
On a side note if you have apps you want to keep you might consider buying Titanium Backup from the market. After you flash your new ROM you can re-download Titanium Backup and re-install all your old apps with their data in tact!
Thanks for the good advice Sharpe. I have 2 questions though.
1) What is the proper way to do a full wipe? I noticed the factory reset doesn't really wipe everything. Does the wipe option in clockworkmod do a sufficient full wipe?
2)It's been a while since I rooted but I'm assuming I use that nandroid thing to make the backup right?
If you use Rom Manager it will perform the full wipe and nandroid backup for you (without having to boot into clockwork mod yourself and do it all).
Performing a factory reset only erases all the user data on your current ROM, when you're installing a ROM and you perform a full wipe, it will delete the ROM completely.

[Q] Gingerbread swap

Hi guys,
I am starting to get a lot of force closes on my phone. I have no clue if it is the phone, the apps or the ROM (SLIDE-Reloaded v1 which is the basics of the original just without the junk ).
I was thinking of getting rid of what I have now and installing CyanogenMOD7. Would this be recommended? I have Recovery: Clockworkmod 2.5.0.1
If so, can I get a brief explination of how to go about the swap. I know I have done this in the past but it has been so long I honestly can't remember.
Cheers!!
AB
Its simple, just open rom manager and go to download roms, hit cyanogenmod and download cyanogenmod 7.0.3 w/ the google apps addon (optional), and after it downloads, rom manager should automatically pop up asking if you want to wipe and and backup rom, BACKUP ur rom dude just incase u dnt like CM7 and it saves everything, mssgs and all, just in case. Flash the Rom and ther u go. Other than experimentation with some other roms to support my fellow devs, I hav benn using CM since the 6.1.1 build! I highly recommend it!
-also, it wud be in your best interest to probably flash up to the latest recovery, which is 2.5.0.7 if I'm not mistaken)

Do I need to download the GAAPS? If so, I am unable to from the site provided on the ROM bible thread.
Backup - check =) First thing I did was to back up SMS' and current ROM
EDIT: It just clicked to me, so I do not need t download the ROM to my computer and then transfer to SD? All I do is run ROM manager and choose a ROM from the list?
UHHH 0_o i have no idea what you mean by rom bible to be honest, but when you download CM7 from rom manager, it should be a popup on the screen that says addons, then below it is gapps or google apps, whatever its called, you can choose whether to or whether not to download it, but i strongly recommend it because gapps has the Marketplace in it, CM7's actual rom does not come stock with the android market! so download it!
-and for the second question yes it automatically does that for you!!
WOW that is great! I can't wait!!! I just can't do it right now because Market is giving me a "download unsuccessful" message I am upgrading the ROM manager to the premium.
I followed the troubleshoot steps and no luck.
As far as the rom bible, this is the site i was refering to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=924793
All good!
The only thing I cannot figure out is how to get to phone to sync only. I have the HTC Sync program to sync my outlook contacts and calendar and when I plug my phone it used to always sync automatically.
Now I cannot find the feature to choose the option of sync via usb... any ideas?
Solution: Download and install Myphone Explorer on both the phone and computer. once installed on the computer go to File > Settings > Sync and choose from the options on the right VOILA!!
What are the DSP Manager and spare parts for exactly?
Last question, I installed Launcher Pro but I have a feeling this rom comes already with it. is that so (I don't have the icon on the apps list)?
Ok so not exactly last question... how do I get swype?
And why is there an H underneath the little arrows up at the top?

To get Swype: just sign up for the Swype Beta on their website: http://swypeinc.com/
I believe the 'H' is for HSPA+. The Slide is not technically a HSPA+ phone, but it does get faster speeds from the "4G" HSPA+ towers. (You should see faster speeds when the H is on top vs when there's 3G at the top)
Cramill thanks for answering my questions! =)
I am still in doubt about the LauncherPro not appearing in my apps and when i go to the markewt the option to "open" is greyed. This just happened with another app I just downloaded "advanced clock widget"
On a semi seperate note, where can I download this app (image)? I can't seem to find it on app market (the app avail is what seems to be a fony). I had this same app on my sense rom and love it cuz it has the alarm, world clock, timer, weather, etc options.
THANKS for helping in advance =)

I believe that is the Sense clock applet and you'll only get that on a Sense ROM.
what about these apps being greyed out out and not appearing on the app list?
All to strange... I rarely had do many issues with my previous ROM and since I installed CM7 it seems that there are all sorts of little things here and there popping up... Is this normal?

I can only relate my own experiences, I know there are many using CM7 and love it, but for me I just couldn't accept the limitations and bugs it presented on my phone. I'm using a rooted version of the "official" Froyo 2.2.1 ROM (espresso_signed_040511_005057.zip) which still has HBOOT 0.52 and using DarkTremor's a2sd moving apps and cache to an ext3 partition. This combination gets me loads of free memory for apps, has all the nice Sense UI enhancements, is stable and pretty snappy (I am using a Class 10 sd card).
I have to agree, CM ROMS have their audience. I am not sure why it is but I like sense roms better.
I ended up reinstalling CM7 and that fixed the problem with no sound when receiving text. The problem now as many others (so I have read) is my Wi-fi not connecting.
I am going to leave CM7 for a few more days and see if the love comes around, if not, I am going back to a sense rom =/
Fuzi is the rom you have installed on your phone located in the list of Roms in Rom Manager or did you manually instal?

I had the wifi issue in the very beginning, turns out, it is a rare bug that happens often accidentally, the wifi is not a permenant issue, simply backup once more, and then reflash! Easy as pie! Also, CM does NOT use Launcher Pro. It uses ADW Launcher to give the phone the gingerbread look. Launcher pro incorporates both Sense and Gingerbread and is far more advanced! Other than that like I said for me CM is one of the greatest Roms I have ever laid eyes on. However it is in your best interest to use LauncherPro if you want the freedom of CM w/o havin to flash a 2.2 Rom. I recommend the Plus version of LP as it has the Sense widgets, etc. Good luck and jus to let you know I hav absolutely no probs w/ CM as of my latest installation (CM 7.0.3).

DSP is a music equalizer (when used right, makes an wonderful difference in the audio quality of your phone) and I really dont know what the point of spare parts is to be honest with you, just a toolbox for devs i guess

[Q] Virtuous Unity 1.31 problem with ram management.

I am a new user so if this is answered sorry. I have searched but not got results that satisfy me about this.
So I am using Unity 1.31 on my Desire Z. I was fed up with stock rom (GB) sense ui resetting etc and rooted and installed unity for my first custom rom.
One thing is a problem. Ram management is pretty harsh. I have Juice Defender and Swipe Pad, 3G Watchdog apps which I dont want to be closed but if I do anything a little bit heavy these apps close. These 3 apps dance around imy status bar all the time. I am getting they are always opening and closing becasue of low ram but I have never seen this bad on stock 2.2 or 2.3.
1. Is there a fix for this? Like keeping some apps protected as much as possible?
2. Does Beta 2.33 of this Unity rom fixed it?
3. Should I change my rom preference to no-sense roms?
If I cant fix this really bad issue Unity is a no go.
I am waiting for you experienced users of Desire Z. I love it but I need a nice stable rom.

Check the link in my signature for vituous unity mods. There you can download the ram cleaner and htc setup remover .zip files. Just copy them to your phone and flash them. This will generate alot of more free ram for you. Also download an app called autokiller memory optimizer. Best way to monitor and control your free ram. Hope this helps

Thanks on the info. But how will I install them? from clockwork boot?
I am very new on this. So a little more help would be great.
I read here somewhere that even sms app can be killed and you cant see the sms that you receive.
Is there any document or thread for this rom cleaner so I can understand more what and how it does?

yes boot into clockwork recovery. but for the ram cleaner, you need to wipe your phone first so make a backup of ur phone with titanium backup first. then boot into clockwork recovery and do a wipe. then flash virtuous unity BUT DO NOT REBOOT, after flash the ram cleaner. then reboot your phone and set it up and restore your data. finally boot back into cwm and flash the htc setup remover.
Thank you I didnt realise that I have to reflash the rom.

Got my S3, have some questions

alright, so my S3 is stock Rooted. Which means I have a stock ROM (LG8) and I rooted using ODIN. Basically i wanted to remove the Bloat crap that's on it so I don't keep having to run the task manager every hour to kill 56 applications that I didn't even run. So what I'm looking for is a stock ROM with ROOT that has absolutely zero bloatware. Does anyone know of one? I downloaded and flashed JellyBomb and my S3 hated it. FC, multiple installs of the apps, youtube crashed every 2 minutes and I didn't even load it.
My stock phone has recently started to lock up and FC on touchwiz now. So does anyone know how to remove the crap that I do not use? I use, Text, Voice, Chrome browser, Facebook, and the play store for games for my son. No dropbox or TALK or flipbook or any of that other useless ****. Hell I don't even use widgets as they just take up real estate on my homescreen. On my OG EVO, i just renamed the .APK in the app folder and restarted. That didn't work on this phone.
I also didn't realize I had to do some stuff with Google Wallet before flashing, when I loaded my Nandroid, my Google wallet had none of my info in it at all.
I would try team sonics freegs3. Its still a TW based ROM but during install you can choose what apps to install and the battery life is great. Another option is a cm ROM. Those are aosp so no bloat ware. As far as the Google wallet goes you are suppose to reset g wallet before you flash other wise it might be permanently damaged. I may be wrong on that subject though. That is just what I hear since I don't use it.
Good luck and make sure if you do flash wipe dalvik cache, regular cache, and factory reset.

Try out FreeGS3, it's one of the most stable and great battery life. It has Aroma installer that'll guide you through the ROM installation and from there you choose which bloat apps you want installed if any. The dev also move some apps from to /system/apps, or something, that makes them uninstalable from Application Manager.
Before you install FreeGS3 you need to flash TWRP, download GooManager from the market, grant it SU and tap menu then "Install OpenRecoveryScript". Let it do it's thing... you can uninstall the app afterwards.
If there are other app you don't want or need that are included you can use Titanium Backup, found in Play Store, to uninstall the apps. Do not uninstall those apps that are highlighted in red, except Kies that can go, since these are system app and can cause problems with the phone.
Also, killing apps in task manager is not necessary since ICS (and GB as well) kill those apps that are idle or not being used to save on RAM. you could be doing more harm to the battery life than well, I never kill an app or "free memory" and all good with an average of 18hrs of battery.
Read these this write up by former member Flipz, it'll give a more insight on task management in linux and android.
Why you shouldn't be using a task killer
Thanks guys!
I'm at work now and don't have the time to do this right now but I'm downloading the ROM, and already have flashed TWRP. I will mess around with it tonight and see what I can do.
Good suggestions in the previous replies.....also might keep in mind that if for some reason you can't find a custom rom you like could always just go back to stock rooted and use Titanium or Rom Toolbox to freeze or remove any bloatware you don't want that may be taking up resources. Always good to freeze something first before removing just to make sure everything works the way you want. I usually make a backup of all apps after rooting a phone just so I can restore it later if ever need to.
Also, if you look around on the forum I believe there is a way to try and restore Google Wallet that has been successful for peeps that did the same as you.
after iestspel
there are plenty of TW roms our there, also. freezing via titanium like posted above should do the trick too!
