Build 19 of AOKP Rom can do this
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/11455-rom-android-open-kang-project-maguro-build-19-jan-17/

A guick Google search found PlayerPro which seems to do it, but I don't know anything about the player...
PowerAmp has had good reviews, and I think it might do it as well.
If you're using custom ROM, it is already included in Bigxies v.9. (GSM) (CDMA)
Otherwise I guess it is in CM as well...

if using headphones.....
Did you know the supplied headphones will skip to the next track if you do a quick double clip on the headphone cable pause button

Haved you tried cubed?

I used to use it on my old phone and it supported skipping songs by holding volume.

Those supplied headphones with the phone aren't necessarily "top quality."

To follow up, found nothing with power amp
Used player pro trial, and it has shake to skip song which works great if anyone is interested
So no need to wake up screen every song change, with screen closed, share it and it skips song.
Comes in handy at work where I don't have skip buttons on headphones

[Q] Supplied Headphones - Track skip?

Hi, i've searching for this for a while, but to no avail.
I love my new Galaxy S2, but there is one issue that bothers me, and that is that I have to take it out of my pocket to skip tracks.
I heard from one person stating you could skip the track by long pressing the button on the supplied head phones, however I cannot get this to work. Does this work for any body else?
If the headphones can't skip track, does anyone know of any that do (volume control is not important)? Or an app/trick to skip track without needing to take the phone out of my pocket? (such as long press volume rocker)
I have an old bluetooth stereo headset, and even this won't allow track skipping, only play/pause, despite working fine with my nexus one. All help would be greatly appreciated.
You skip tracks by double pressing the mic button. It's a pain to get the timing right, but it does work with the stock music player.
You can download PowerAMP Music Player from the android market.
It's a better music player and you can longpress the button to change the track
Trail version is 15 days, you gotta buy the full app after that

So If my headphones can't even play/pause the stock music app , I might have an some other underlying issue?
Strangely I play/pause with the headset if I install Fedes music app alpha v4, and possibly others. Will try uninstalling all music apps again and see if they were interferring somehow.
Confused!
To follow up, the double click to skip works in Fedes Music app (you're right about the timing) but still won't work in either the stock music app or the music hub.
Really fustrating.
The double clicking works on stock but you have to get the timing right, which is near impossible. The whole Samsung s2 stock music app is a load of crap compared to the original S, the sound, the music contol, the whole thing is much worse! I don't know what they have done, but they have definitely gone backwards with the music app!
You can use a remote from an HTC headphone for skipping tracks.

Sorry if I wasn't clear, but the button does not work at all when using the stock app. No play/pause, no track skip, nothing.
All other music apps seem to work as intended. So surely this must be an issue with my stock music app? As if there is a hidden setting I turned off, but can't find to turn back on.

About 2.5 years too late but I think I've nailed it. I can get a consistently successful double click skip by holding the first click a little longer. Using a pair of cheap Sony earphones on the S2.

Headset button handling

Can anybody confirm if ICS properly handles headset button actions unlike how it got messed up again in gingerbread...

Just tried headphones, I'm a bit stunned, it only does pause(1click) and next song (2clicks) how annoying!!!! The volume up and down doesn't work for some reasons

Does it handle apps that have focus, properly?

On my VZW GN, headset button presses seem to only interact with Google Music. If I'm playing a podcast in PocketCasts and I press the headset button, it not only doesn't pause the podcast, but it also starts Google Music in the background and starts playing a random track!
I bought the Klipsch s4a. They have an app in the market that adds functionality. It mostly worked but was a little buggy and laggy so I stopped using it. I'm sure the button hardware on them is no different from other one button headphones including the ones that come with the phone. Give it a shot. Admittedly I have not used it since my nexus s on stock gingerbread.

Headphones

Just purchased the 2 on release day for full price and so excited to try out Samsung. I am a heavy music listener and have to use headphones. I tried the set I purchased for my last phone HTC brand in Amazon and the stock ones that came with the phone (Samsung) and for the love of all mighty I am unable to get the darm things to skip/fast forward. The only thing it does is lower the volume or raise it. WTF that's what the volume buttons on the phone are for.
I have been all over the settings in the phone and the music players and unable to find anything that looks like it would help. This is doing it while on stock and power amp music players. Also I am running stock if that helps.
Has anyone figured it how to get that to work and if so how?
Thanks,
A desperate man who wants to skip. Lol
Lol I had the same issue downloaded an app called headset button controller it's only a trial but it's working great. There was another free app that I plan on trying out as well called JAYS headset control try out either see which one u like best. I don't think u can use the volume button to skip tracks but the third button on the controller can do it all skip/play/stop/previous just by double/triple/quadruple tapping using those apps.

[Q] Mod to change music using headset

Hello guys,
As we know, since JB was lauched, the headset button is kinda useless when we're listening to music. When we long-press the button, google now activates and music stops. It's really annoying, because we have to take the phone out from the pocket to just go to next song. It's not good to have to expose our expensive phone for a so simple task.
I know there's a solution for this problem on HOX+, but I didn't find anything for us.
Any help?
Try headset button controller in play store. It has orange headphone icon. The dev has a workaround so 1click. Play 2click. Skip etc.

Any App To Skip Tracks With Volume Keys With Screen Off?

I've tried a couple random ones from the play store none of which worked. If anyone knows an app that will allow me to do this it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
I've been using Pocket Skip Track and it seems to work fine. The only issue I have is that it will only work with a single music player at a time and you can only skip ahead (not back).

I tried this app but it doesn't seem to work with Spotify. I disabled LG's shortcut keys and played around with the apps settings. When I hit volume up to skip the track the volume just goes up and down.
Looks like we'll have to wait until root. I couldn't find anything either. Only think I can suggest is using bluetooth headphones that have buttons for changing the track built in.

Also if you have wired earphones/headphones that have physical button, most players support skipping to next track by double clicking the main button. Single click pauses the track.
On a side note, I use the power amp media player which is really good, and it also has equalizer built in, (custom configurable) which is not present in either the LG music or Google music apps. You need to use an app called "Equalizer" from the play store if you need custom equalizer for other music apps.
Another option might be the little "button-thingy" that sticks into your headphone jack. I just bought one off of Amazon for $6 to give it a try.

I'll report back once I receive it.
Music Folder Player
Try Music Folder Player. I've used that for awhile. Pretty much hold down the volume button up or down and it will skip to the next song or the previous song.
poweramp has this ability built in

I need to be able to skip songs in Pandora and Spotify. Can this app do that or only for songs played with the app itself? Thanks.
I really want to know

Oh OK. Didn't know you were trying to do that. No that app is just for songs you have in your storage. Sorry.
Just got my pressy (knockoff) button and am happy to report that it DOES work with Spotify. I'm using the app Key Cut and a double press input to skip tracks. It also works with all of the other media players I have tried thus far (Poweramp, Google Music, LG Music). Since I stream most of my music through bluetooth it is a good solution for my needs but not sure if this will help solve your problem.
i really want to know ,thank you !

I figured either gravity box or wanam for lollipop would work. I just wasn't sure what the UI the G4 would fall under, AOSP (gravity box) or more like TW (wanam); as I don't have the phone yet. I know wanam is for Samsung stock roms but I've used it on other custom roms too. There's also a standalone module called Physical Button Music Control by XspeedPL.
GravityBox works for the most part. Sometimes it won't skip tracks but a reboot fixes it.
The xposed module "Physical Button Music Control" is by far the best option. It works every time without fail whereas gravity box is hit or miss. Plus you can program the volume keys and power button to do more than gravity box can.
Hi, check this app in this thread, it has volume buttons skip tracks with single or double click:

I second this one here, I have tried quite a few, and this one works by far the best, albeit still not perfect.
