So sorry if this has already been covered. I did few quick searches and glances but was unable to find anything.
As many know, when you flash a custom rom. You have to go back through and set back up your launcher screen, notification sounds for text, work email, gmail, and the other default one. We are nice enough to have apps auto re-download from the market, at least it tends to work majority of the time.
So we have apps like Titanium backup for apps, to preserve our game saves like angry birds. When we had Launcher pro, it could set your screens back up. Never found anything for sounds.
So the big question, which this could be useful for many people. With ICS out, and all the different roms, I know the new launcher being developed currently does not have a home screen backup, hopefully feature will be added. But is there an App that backs up your Sound settings, maybe your alarm clocks, or anything else that is tedious that you have to go back in and setup? If this is not something out already, might be cool for a dev to make?
This can be done in Titanium Backup. If you filter System apps you can backup: Alarms, Settings, WiFi access points SMS and MMS messages + many more.

I have always been hesitant about copying those apps though. In case there was an update to them by either the dev, or when new version comes out of the source. Or are you talking about just restoring data and not that app?
Yea, titanium backup and system apps can be bad, but typically when loading data (ie for the alarm app) works fine and if it doesn't, you should be able to clear the data/cache from the settings/apps menu.
Also, nova launcher is an ics launcher that supports backup and restore...it's really nice.

There are a number of apps including Titanium Backup for backing up and restoring apps and their data.
I don't know if desktop is the right word, but I use it here to mean the screens and placement of apps on those screens.
For example, if I have a folder with all the Google apps in it and it is sitting on my main screen and other folders for other things on other screens, is there is an app that can backs up all these folders and their placements so I don't have to redo them after TB does its job in restoring the apps and data to the system?
edit:
I found that sprite backup does "home screens." Any other recommendations? Thanks.

I use TB and choose restore apps and data. After an immediate reboot my apps and widgets appear exactly where they were when I backed them up

You mean the last option, Restore all apps with data? I thought that's not recommended as it will flood you with force closes.

Restore (user)apps with data is fine. Never restore systemdata though, that is what can cause problems.
Another option is to use a custom launcher like ADW EX, or another. You can backup and restore the settings of the custom launcher and then you'll get all your homescreens with the right placements of the apps.
The only thing you 'll have to do yourselve is replacing the widgets.
Since installing ICS, the phone dialer doesn't have the tabs for contacts, keypad and call logs all under one app. But it did in gingerbread. So I'm looking for something pretty much like the default phone app but with 3 tabs at the top saying Logs, Contacts and Keypad (or Dialer), instead of the two separate apps called Contacts and Phone. The default contacts app has groups, contacts and favourites, and the default phone app has keypad, logs and again, favourites. Well I don't need favourites or groups. I can't really find anything suitable on the market, can you recommend me something preferably with a dark background? Something like this,
http://img231.imageshack.us/img231/8216/icsdialere4touch.png
but without all the rooting and mods needed. Also, if I install a dialer app from the market, will it delete my contacts and call logs or will they remain intact? Thanks.

Contact.apk is a system application, you will need root.
Try GoDialer or something like this.

You could try this one exdialer and on top of it this theme
but without all the rooting and mods needed. Also, if I install a dialer app from the market, will it delete my contacts and call logs or will they remain intact? Thanks.

Your contacts will be safe if you install a new contacts or dealer application.
As stated previously you can try GoContacts.
Only dialer that suits my needs (I have tried tens of them) is DialerOne: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=kz.mek.DialerOne
try exDialer.. i tried them all and it's the best IMHO.
it also has themes and can slide right for call and slide left for SMS.
Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm liking exDialer a lot so I'll go ahead and install the darker themes. :good: I was expecting a separate call log screen but it's cool how the logs and keypad are together. I also like that it actually tells me 'outgoing' 'incoming' 'not answered' and not just indicator arrows. When I make a call from it then uses the default samsung dialer screen (speaker, mute, headset, add call, end call, keypad). It doesn't matter but I thought it was going to have it's own interface. I also installed aContacts which is quite good but I think exDialer is better.
You can download Go launcher and then buy the ICS PRO CONTACTS is the closest dialer to the one u r looking for mate.

Thanks Lonzo. Well tbh I'd been using Go Launcher for a while but it was so slow opening things, even not responding, that I'm using Apex Launcher now which is way better. I've installed the exDialer ICS theme and it looks nice and works well. :good:
What's the disadvantages of not rooting your phone? my phone lasted unroot from postman hands to my door only lol. Before the phone arrived I already downloaded the required stuff. Enjoy the freedom of rooting.

yes... I had Go Launcher since GB days but for ICS is kinda slow.. APEX is better.
and ICS Pro runs with no lag on APEX... Ex Dialer looks good indeed...
Running CM10.1.2, I noticed that the calendar on it (jenkins), is not as up to date as the Google calendar app. I tried installing the Google one, but (1) the installed name was some random hexadecimal string and, (2) more importantly, caused significant problems with everything.
Can we replace the CM calendar or will it be updated with the new features from the Google calendar?
Replace the cm calendar. I just disable it in app settings and install the play store version. I've never had any of the problems you described, but you might try rebooting, reinstalling the app, and clearing calendar app cache and calender storage data

Disabling the CM calendar got rid of the significant problems, but the name still shows as "#ff000000" in the App Drawer. Plus some of the settings text are either "#ffdddddd" or "#ffeeeeee". Functionality is fine though, so I guess I'll keep it! Thanks!
Edit: Well, it got rid of some problems....
Those odd names are hexadecimal codes, and they look like colors. For instance, #ff000000 is solid black. I think you have a very odd issue, maybe a third party launcher like nova that lets you custom name apps? You may be in for a clean ROM install...

Not sure why it thinks it should display a color instead of regular text. I'm pretty much using stock CM10.1.2 with no significant customizations.
After trying to reply yes to an calendar event from gmail, it FCed.
uninstall cm callender with titanium backup, reboot phone, download google calender from play store.

Is there a way to backup the desktop settings with Titanium? On my HTC there was a [Desktop] app that contained all the placement settings etc that would make it easy to restore and apps and where they are placed on the various tiles/screens.
Thanks!

What you need is a better Launcher app, one which has options to backup/restore
all the launcher settings, screens, widgets and other apps.
There are a lot of launchers capabile of doing just that,
I use the Next 3D launcher, it has that option in it but
there are a lot of other launchers which also have it too.
Go to the playstore and download 3/4 some of the more
popular ones, I am sure you will find more than one which
will have that feature.
Good luck!
So one of the reasons I hesitate when switching ROMs is because I don't wanna go through the tedious process of setting up my homescreens and widgets. I know that Titanium Pro and Google Play backup my apps and can restore them for me after flashing a new ROM but it's the tedious stuff like signing into every app and organizing my folders and widgets that kills me.
Is there a setting in Titanium that allows me to save all that stuff? And am I using it wrong? When I flash a new ROM I should just skip the Google sign in process, disable the automatic restore from Google Play, and just launch Titanium right away? From there what do I choose if I want the apps and my personal settings back? Restore All Apps+Data? I don't do anything with System Data if I'm jumping between ROMs right? Do I select to "Keep the Previous ID" when it asks?
I know these are probably easy answers I just want to make sure I've been doing it right this whole time. I know how to keep my apps between ROMs flashing for the most part. I'd just like to keep my homescreen and widgets there too. I use Google Launcher btw and not Nova Prime anymore. I like the convenience of being able to say 'OK Google' and swiping left to get to Google Now.
Thanks in advance for the helps guys.
