Any reason why the latest google+ release notes said full resolution image upload however instant upload photos are still compressed down to 2080x?
I really was excited to think that I could use the google+ app as a cloud based backup of my photos... looks like I will still rely on photocloud.
Thoughts?
I have wondered the same thing. Also, are previously backed up photos (with version 1 of google plus instant upload) are they re-uploaded in higher resolution? Or do I have to pull them off the instant upload folder and force it to re-sync?
when you download it form google + its the full pic

That is incorrect. I just used the "Download Full Size" in google+ and it gave me a file that was compressed and resized down to 2080x.
Pictures are automatically resized to 2048 pixels on their longest edge.

I am paying for 80GB of storage. Why are my images resized and reduced to lower quality?
Because they are crappy noisy smartphone pictures anyway? You can still manually upload the full res image to picasa if you are convinced that it is good enough to store it at 5 MP.
So I don't get to have a choice because you think my camera is crappy? Google wants me to buy storage. They should encourage me to upload full resolution photos. Thanks very little for your useless reply.
You still replied
Anyway, I know the camera is crap, I've got one in my pocket.
yeah it is. but still

Hi guys!
despite i use my HD for 9 months now, i still didn't find an application to make photos stored into my HD to be seen in hi resolution when they are attached to a contact or displayed by TFD3D within Photos and Videos tab
it's kinda of frustrating when you take nice pics with a dedicated camera with +5Mpx and then transfer them into HD
i know that there are some "manual" methods to make them displayed in hi-res but this is very dificult when you have more then 10 pics
so i am asking if you, smart guys here, can make such an application in order to be used by all of us with less programming skills
i am sorry if this app allready exists and i dind't find it out. if so, please point me to the right direction
thank you and best regards to all of you!
this is interesting - 105 users view this and no comment
if it is intersting, why no comment?
if it is not interesting, why +100 views?
It's interesting and I would like such an app as well - but it doesn't make much sense for me to comment because I have no idea on how to program it!
And I'm quite sure most of the 105 other users that have read this don't know either!
Tap on the low res "framed" image on the Photos and Videos tab to open the image in glorious high quality.
Slide left and right to scroll through the images in the album.
As for contacts, add the high quality image to the contact on the phone, not via Outlook, and it will show a high quality version on the phone.
Hope this helps and I haven't totally missed what you really wanted

nope
i know what you said and this is not how i wanted
i want to copy hi-res pictures from my cam into my SD card and them to use them to attach to contacts or to display on "Pictures and Videos" tab without any manual trick in order to be displayed in hi-res
if this is not possible "by default" because of some windows or htc bug, then i want an application that can be run and then all pics to be displayed in hi-res, no matter what i do with them
would that be possible?
It should be possibly, its just that no one has ever developed such a program and I can't see anyone doing this either
sorry, dont get that.
every picture, i transfer to my touch hd from an external source, are displayed in high resolution.
you sure, you dont need some glasses?
please add a screenshot to show what your problem is.
Hm, do you want a 1:1 pixel mapping? Then you will have to scroll around on your display to see the image.
Attention modern art:
Attached picture shows the relation of a 5Mpix image (2kx2.5k) to a wvga (480x800 black rectangle) screen.
Typically images will be downsampled to show 'all' information on a smaller resolution. Simple example: Having a 16x16 image and you want to show it on 8x8 screen you could take the average of 2x2 pixel blocks of the image which will give the pixel color in the 8x8 screen. This will introduce some bluriness.

smart line! did you came out with it all by yourself?
the low res pictures problem of HD when attached to contacts or displayed on pictures & videos tab is well known.
maybe i missed something and it is solved on newer roms but i count also on fallen spartan comments and it seems that it is not solved yet

Both the HD's I've got show high res contact images.
I put the images on the phone (created an Avatar folder to keep things neat) then from the contact picked the image.
From what I've read, that's the way to do it.
If you pick the images in outlook then sync, it creates a lower res image and uses that on the phone.
The rolordex screen in album is admitedly lower res than selecting the image and scrolling left and right, but then if it wasn't the rolordex would be a lot more cpu hungry, what with having to display the picture rotated slightly, and animate it as you flick through the album.
Hi All,
Been messing around with the Galaxy Nexus for a few days now and am more and more wanting to find a way to sync full resolution camera shots to the cloud automatically. I was thinking about just using dropbox + dropsync but the 2gb size limit wasnt too desirable for me.
NOW.. the newest version of the google+ app states in the release notes that instant upload now will do it in full resolution. I've tested it a dozen times and all photos are still being resized to the x2048 size.
Anyone have any luck with full sized photo syncing? I'd like to use the google+ app but non-full resolution isnt a viable backup option IMO.
Every time I get a screen shot and share it I'll go to click on it and the screen shot is always very grainy. Is that just how it's supposed to be or is there something wrong with this

Actually I've been having the same issue. I'll take a screenshot and if you look at the image in the gallery it looks perfectly fine but as soon as I post\share it to G+ it looks grainy on G+. I also noticed that after uploading the image to G+ there would be 2 "versions" of the same image in Google's Photo App, the clear version that I uploaded and the grainy version which G+ is displaying.
I have no idea why it's doing this or how to correct it

Yeah it's rather strange. In the gallery they look fine, but sometimes there's a slight delay where they look a little grainy then the image clears up but when I share those same images, usually right after a screen shot, the screen shot will be grainy when I click on it in the convo. I guess I could just ask the recipient if it looks blurry on their end as well.
Yup.
Stock messaging distorts the image.
Only work around I've found is to use gosms
Got a good quality of screenshot on mine.
Depends on where you are sending them and how. Most messaging apps have limits on the size of the images that can be sent and reduce their size changing the way they look. Most of the time it isn't that noticeable, but the images that are on your phone should be the correct size and quality.
The shift you see when viewing in the gallery is a quick images that is updated with are more detailed on as it loads. Otherwise you would seen blank screen when you first look as it would have to wait until the full image is loaded.
Maybe its the resolution and quality, its a little different when viewing in a pc or other devices also.
I noticed that if you allow Google+ to auto backup the picture then share it, it's full resolution
Mine are always crystal clear on Facebook, Kik, Instagram, etc.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
Yes mine was just fine in Facebook and other sites.
Wanted to know if it is just me
WHen I upload photos to facebook using the FB app, the quality loss is horrendous. I'm talking if I re download the posted photo off of a friend's wall, it is around 100 kb, resolution of 960x540 (although the photo on my phone is 2 mb), it looks like absolute ****, pixelated, not big enough (even when full screened)
has this happened to anyone? I have tried uploading to FB right from the gallery, and uploading from the FB app, same thing
Any ideas? Thanks
ARHD 10.2, Android 4.4.3
Of course, from my PC, the same photo (uploaded to google drive, then FB) uploads fine to FB, in full quality/resolution
Doesn't that happen with all smartphone uploads? To get the full 100% quality you need to go on your computer and create an album and check the quality button.
Sent from my HTC One M8
hmm, i dont think so, maybe back in the day. It is all high quality now, if I upload right to fb from my computer (without checking high quality) it is fine. And my past phones never had this problem, it just this this. Trust me when I say the quality is terriblee in comparison
oddly enough, problem is solved if i upload from facebook.com mobile site from my google chrome app
must be the FB app then..
Hi,
I decided to try out the live photos function in the camera app as it could be fun to have some short video clips when taking pictures of our dog etc
So, I take the picture and it works well to watch the picture and the video in the inbuilt gallery app. However, the photo backup to Google Photos and Flickr just includes the picture and not the video (or, at least, I can't see the videos on Google Photos or Flickr, it might be included in the uploaded file somehow?)
I tried transferring the picture to my pc too for backup there, but same story again, can only see the picture, not the video.
Anyone know if there's a way to fix this so the video part doesn't disappear when I have to free up space on the phone?
I tried deleting a live photo from the phone and redownload it to the phone to see if I then could view the live part in the gallery again. I could not
I've tried googling for a solution to this for LG phones, but I can't find a thing, just a bunch of stuff for iPhone and Pixel phones.
Got a solution of sorts: If I view the video part in the gallery I get an option in the lower right corner to save it as a video and if I do that, that video uploads to Google Photos etc
