[Q] Partitioning SD card...

Right I am a complete noob to this scene of flashing and roms and what not.
So far I have rooted my HTC Desire and used Titanium back up to back up apps and system data.
I am now in the stage of partitioning but dont know which way to go, I have done a lot of research and cannot make my mind.
ROM Manager has a limit and can cause problems.
Gparted confuses the hell out of me.
I am planning to use Minitools partition program as a friend recommended it to me but I heard other problems can occur. However this does seem like the easier way.
Any advice?

What part of GParted confuses you? I find it incredibly easy to use, either by boot CD or on ubuntu...if it's just the "making the boot CD" part then I recommend sticking with it because once it boots it's real easy (IMO of course )

Well some tutorials say you have to use it when you boot your pc/laptop unless Im wrong.
Plus I have no blank CDs

Yeah you can. It's really worth buying a blank CD though

It installs on your hard drive, and you can select to boot it when you start your computer. You can then download GParted when ubuntu loads up, and use it that way - it's quite simple tbh. Take a look here for more info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WubiGuide
Plus, it's always handy to have an easily accessible version of ubuntu (or so I've found...)

Okay if I do use that method do I get my laptop to read the SD card through the Desire as I have no SD card reader?
In addition I heard Minitools Partitioning wizards is much simpler?

I've never used Minitools Partitioning wizard, sorry.
But yeah, if you boot into recovery then enable USB storage (obviously whilst plugged into the laptop...) you'll be able to partition it. Just make sure you know what you're doing and that you have any files you want to keep backed up.

If you just want to partition for CM 7.0.0, ROM Manager is the thing for you. You won't go over those limits, trust me. Other thing is, if you do it in gparted, your Phone will think the sd-card is corrupted and wants to format it.

It's vica versa. ROM manager is crap. made my card corupt 2 times.
Gparted made card seen corrupted by phone? Well, you've done something wrong.

Just install Ubuntu (can be on pendrive if u dont want dual boot), and install gParted on it (it has nice GUI unlike this one from Live CD).
Problems fix'd, its nice & easy.

ROM Manager also formats the card before partitioning. Not the way to go (cause I lost my phone data - including backup - when formatting from ROM Manager).
Anyway - you don't need a CD for Gparted - you can mount the ISO file in any virtual machine (Virtual Box/VMWare) and it'll run perfectly.
Just make sure that the EXT partition is a PRIMARY partition. Confusing, yes - but it isn't. Your FAT32 (current partition with your data etc) is PRIMARY, and so will this.
In other words - you should have two primary partitions.

[Q] HTC Desire unable to mount SD card

Hi All,
I have a problem with my SD card. My phone doesn't recognise SD card after I created ext4 partition through partition magic on windows 7. Here is what happened.
- I have rooted desire running CM 7.0.3.
- I wanted to go back to Starburst 1.4 rom.
- I have class 4 16 gb sd card (fat + ext3) with 512 mb of ext3 and rest fat32 (this was when everything was running good)
- I flashed the new rom through CWM, but only got like 54 mb on sd left.
- So I manually formatted ext3 and changed it to ext4 using partition magic on windows 7 (connected sd card through a reader).
- After that I flashed the new rom, but still got the same size left.
- After that I went back to CM7.0.3 which is working fine for me.
However, at this time, my phone doesn't recognise my SD card.
- I saw that I can't format ext in recovery as i get this error
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p2(File exists)
Error mounting SDEXT: !
I believe I was able to install CM7.0.3 coz it was a small rom was fit directly into phone's internal memory.
At this time, I can't see my SD card on phone. Can't play music or install any files or anything.
Looking for some quick help.

So are you saying that you got your SD card formatted by someone else using Rom Manager ?
- As of now, when I click on the inbuilt ROM Manager in CM7, it says " The SD Card needs to be mounted to use ROM Manager!"
That means my SD card is abviously not read by my phone.
Looking for some help. I don't want to do something silly at this time.
Atleast, as of now my phone is not bricked and is working, just the SD is not.
Any suggestions/comments or link to my problem is more than welcome.

Hmmm, i smell another usb brick here, we've had so many these days, and all by people using cwm and flashing gb sense roms...just to prove i'm right, can you connect the phone to your pc? If you're not able to do that, then u have 100% chance it's a usb brick.

OMG !! yeah you're right.. now when I connected my phone using a USB, it doesn't give me the option to "mount USB".
What do to from here ? I don't know what is a USB brick and am pretty poor with linux commands !!!

Are you saying that formatting SD card and making fresh ext partition through a media reader will not help in this case ?
I am very confused so to say.. I read the link that you posted, it talks about CID which I'm not able to find.. Can't see that option in fast boot (recovery).
Is there some other way to fix all this ?
Any more tricks/ suggestions are more than welcome..

Nope: i'm sorry but there is no other way...the problem lies in the misc partition, and that one doesn't get touched by simply toying with your sd, it's on nand, and no rom flashing/nandroid restore can touch it either. This process is the only way to go. CID can be obtained via adb command, i hope you'll have it installed and set up correctly.

i just fixed my brick lol . i found out bcuz i coulnt enable bluetooth

Okay I get it.. I need to fix my nand partition, now question -
1) I can figure out the 1st step "Find out your CID. Go into fastboot mode, and do 'fastboot oem boot" - Nothing happens when I click on fast boot option in recovery mode. The other method CID generator also asks for CID.. how do I get that.. that's my biggest question.
2) How can I see the rom version.
I know, I might me sounding stupid, but I'm not a pro.. used to love flashing new ROMs earlier and this time I just messed it up.
Need some step-by-step help.. I might be asking for too much, but I trust this forum and believe Android has too many fans hooked to it.. so I will get some help

Also just want to let the forum know that I'm running a custom ROM (CM 7) and don't see the option of software info under Settings>About phone. Any other way to find out rom version ???????/

Ok, sorry man, i was out for a ride
To see the CID you have to type "fastboot oem boot" in the terminal, after navigating to the path where you have the sdk, for example:
"cd c:/sdk/tools"
"fastboot oem boot"
Then you should get all the info, together with the CID ofc...obviously you need to have adb installed and working in order to do that (there ia a lot of tutorials for that, just use the search function).
As to rom version, you don't need it, just download the mtd0.img, open it with the hex editor and mod it with your CID, then go for the next step

I dont believe you have bricked your phone, i think you have created a partition on it without making it a primary partition along with the fat32 parition.
boot into recovery and mount your SD card to your PC. Reformat the whole card and then it should work again, you may just be able to go into your partition software and amend to show 'primary' on each, if not read on. Couple of options then, download ROM manager from the market and reformat the ext3 using rom manger if not do it via your windows software but make sure both partitions are set to 'Primary'.

It's a usb brick, not a plain brick: when you plug it to pc the phone usually doesn't even light up the led.

hi, seems you got bad partition on your sd card, since it s normal that you can't mount sd while plug on usb.
did you already put out your sd card out the phone and try to read it with a usb scard reader plug on your computer??
cid error mean you have messed-up your misc partition which is the one in your nand where the recovery is located... didn't see any error about this in your thread...
in the boot, should fail with error misc partiton cid unknown etc...
have a try about sd card reader it's easer than misc error fix
give a try on this site and try using gparted cd live... don't need to be expert in linux command (it s a graphical interface) should you know that FIRST FAT32 PRIMARY partition and LAST EXT3 (is less fast but really more stable and relyable fs) PRIMARY partition

Fixing misc doesn't take more than a minute if you have a working adb...repartitioning micro sd card takes loads of time instead, especially if it's big, coz you have to backup all of your data then copy them back, and that's a pain, especially if the sd isn't very fast.
Anyway you might be right there, just the other day a guy had a similar issue caused by multiple ext partitions not being recognized properly. I just thought it was a usb brick coz it's very common since the new gb sense roms rolled out and people started partitioning like crazy with cwm (which really SUCKS at that), and this either cause misc corruption or messed partitions on sd card: i'd suggest everyone to partition with amon them flash back any 3.0+ cwm to flash the rom, if you don't have the chance of using linux live cd (but you really should).

All sorted --------- RESLOVED !!!!
Okay Listen all Desire Owners-- I was able to fix this USB brick without having to go through all which was available on internet..
What I did -
1) Came home and formatted my EXT4 to ext3 and simply reflashed cm7 rom
All worked like charm - Now My SD card is mountable and works perfectly

Anyway make sure you set up adb properly on your pc, it will save your life some day: it takes a while but it's worth it...i wouldn't get inti the rom flashing thing without it. Just a suggestion

[Q] Creating ext4 partition on SD Card

I want to partition my Micro SD Card in order to install the Supernova ROM which requires this.
However i'm having trouble finding an easy to use program which will let me partition the micro sd card as FAT32 primary and ext4 secondary. I just want a simple program where I don't need to enter any windows command prompts or which requires me to burn an iso.
Also if I create a 512mb partition what Swap Size should I have?
Any help appreciated.

1. I would recommend Gparted, but since you dont want to burn an iso, you can just use 4ext recovery
2. AFAIK you dont need swap to run Supernova

I would STRONGLY recommended "4ext Recovery" (look at 4ext dot net). It's a little bit more than what you are actually looking for, but trust me, it will be worth it. Especially the "USB unbrick" function can save a hundred bucks for a new Desire. And, of course, you can partition SD cards and even correct alignment.
Installation of this recovery is easy, can be done via apk/App. Moreover the touch installer is fun.

I suppose, you're talking about CWM _Recovery_? If so, your 4ext installation was not successful. Run "4ext Recovery Updater" again, select "just download" and flash manually with e. g. fastboot.
BTW: When I installed it the first time, I had to install the latest "Non Touch" version first, then updated to the Touch Installer. WFM.

you gotta flash the 4ext recovery first..
in 4EXT Recovery Updater go to "online instalation" and choose "4EXT Recovery v2.2.7 RC6"..than hit Install..the rest is pretty much self explaining

Thanks its working now and I'm in 4EXt recovery and I'm going to reformat my SD card and begin partitioning (I've backed it up on my PC).
I did try and use the option to keep the FAT32 portion of my SD Card and just create a ext4 partition but it kept erroring saying there was too little space on the device. However this shouldn't be the case as there's about 7 GB of free space on it and I was only trying to create a 512 MB partition.

Free space within the FAT partition doesn't help for creating another partition (like a lot of free room in your house [aka partition] doesn't help when trying to build a second house on your claim [aka SD Card] - in fact you need non partitioned space on the SD card _after_ your FAT partition.
IIRC ext4's creation of a _new_ ext4 partition does not include shrinking already existing partition(s), it can just convert or re-format formerly built partitions. Thus you have to shrink your FAT first (with e. g. gparted), then you can create another partition.
Be aware that shrinking a partition may result in total loss of all data!

Best way...Copy everything on Fat32 to a backup location on PC, allow 4ext to completely repartition the card. That way, everything will be aligned to block too (faster data access).

I have installed 4ext touch recovery. The prob is that I can't get into touch recovery. I can switch between classic and touch when updating but it always goes into control. I know this is stupid but it would greatly appreciate some help. I'm not the most technically inclined person. Thank you in advance.

Are you S-OFF?

I am s-off. I found out that recovery touch is not flashing. Instead of downloading and installing I clicked download then clicked install. It said critical installation error. I have read other forums and it was mentioned but to me there was not really a definite answer. So I'm stumped again. I can't tell you how long it is taking me to do all of this. If an error is possible, it will happen to me.

There doesn't seem to be an idiots guide on the net and I'm frankly lost!
I understand that I need to wipe/format the sd card where I can then create the partitions I require but I can't even do this.

Mini-Tool Partition Wizard is a pretty straight forward method for partitioning. I have read that it can be unreliable, though I have never had an issue. How-to here
But best bet is always gParted, imo. Haven't tried 4EXT yet, although I do use it for flashing, so can't comment. I'd recommend going to the effort of gParted. Also, if installing 4Ext, spend a buck or two for the Control version. Well worth it.

[TUTORIAL] Partitioning your sd-card correctly

Correctly partition your sd-card for extended memory use​
Many users on this forum don't know how to partition their sd-cards correctly, resulting in later problems with ROMs, like lag issues, or data losses. This guide will help you partition your sd-card correctly.
There are several potential partitions where app-data can be installed to, usually the internal memory-partition is used for that. Unfortunately, the Desire's internal memory if only 147mb in size, and can only be increased by a maximum of 100mb with a hboot change. With apps increasing in size in the last few years, and devs not caring anymore about their app size, this small internal memory can't hold more than 10-20 relatively small apps.
Since Android 2.2 Froyo, users have been able to move part of the apps on the sd-card, but it's still not enough, with most of the data and dalvik cache filling up the internal memory. Therefore most custom ROMs incorporate an extension that allow additional partition on the sd-card to be used exclusively as an extension to the internal memory partition 'data', which is referrred to as 'sd-ext'.
----------------WARNING----------------
Everything on your sd-card will be wiped. Backup your sd-card before proceeding.
I do not take responsibility for anything that happens with your phone/ sd-card.
----------------INFO----------------
There are two methods to correctly create an ext partition on your sd-card. These are:
- 4ext Recovery method
This method requires you to be S-OFF, but it's the easiest one.
-Gparted method
This can be done, regardless of being S-OFF or not.
These two methods are the best ones to use. Other means could result in sd-card damaging, or other problems. Do not use:
ROM Manager, CWM Recovery, Windows Minitool Partition Wizard etc.
All you need for this process:
A 4ext recovery compatible phone ( for the 4ext method)
A Micro Sd-card.
A computer.
A writable CD (For Gparted Method)
A rom with init.d scripts support.
A brain.
----------------4ext Method----------------
This method consists in flashing a new recovery on your phone, and it requires you to be S-OFF.

4. Boot your phone in fastboot (Power + Back button), then connect it to your PC.

Now, you have installed 4ext recovery. We can continue.
1. Boot in recovery. (Power + Volume Down, then select "recovery")
2. Select "Tools".

4. Select "Remove all partitions and start from scratch" (Hope you backed up your sd-card)
5. Select your sd-ext partition size. Recommended : minimum 512mb.
6. Skip sd-ext 2 (If asked for it)
7. Skip swap. (If the rom you want to install requires swap, then select 128 mb)
8. Choose Ext4 as your partition type. (Ext4 is faster than Ext3)
Voila, now you have an ext partition.
Skip to "Using the ext partition".
----------------Gparted Method----------------
1. Download gparted Live CD (.iso) from here: http://gparted.sourceforge.net/download.php
2. Once downloaded, burn it on a CD using a burning software.
3. Connect your phone to your PC, and select "Hard Disk" mode.
3. Restart your computer and enter boot menu (usually by pressing F2/F12)
4. In boot menu change the boot order to bring your CD drive on the top, save settings and exit.
5. Restart your computer. You will get some options. Select the one that says to boot Gparted, or something like that.
6. Select your language by entering a given number.
7. You will next have 3 options. Type 0 and hit enter.
8. Now you should be booted in Gparted. You should see your sd-card info, together with your PC's partitions. Select your sd-card.
9. After selecting, you can see your sd-card on the main screen, along with partitions. Delete all partitions, for a clean start.
10. Right click on the "Unallocated space", and click "New"
11. A box will appear. First, create a Fat32 partition. Click the drop down box and select "Fat32". Now write in the "Free space following" box the size of your future ext partition, and, if the ROM you want to install requires a swap partition, add 30 mb to that value. (Example: 1024mb+30mb= 1054mb)
*In order for especially windows-systems being able to mount your sd-card when connecting your device to a pc, sd-ext should be following your first sd-card partition (typically Fat32). Like... create the Fat32 partition first.
12. Now you'll see 2 partitions. Right click on the unallocated one again, write 30mb in the "Free space following" box, then select what kind of partition you would like between Ext 2,3 or 4 ( 4 recommended).
13. Now, right click on the unallocated 30 mb, and create a "Linux swap" partition, just in case.(Optional, only of ROM requires swap)
14. Click "Apply".
15. On the top left of your screen you can see an icon named as exit/turn off, click on it. You now finished partitioning.

And yes, now you may copy back your stuff. (Again, hope you backed up)

After creating an ext partition, you have to actually use it. Most ROMs have a2sd scripts incorporated that use your ext automatically (check the ROM thread), but some ROMs don't, or you just want another type of a2sd scripts.
You can use the following a2sd scripts:

Before flashing any scripts, remember to:
Do a nandroid backup
Delete any other a2sd scripts from the folder : /system/etc/init.d
Wipe cache and dalvik cache after installing a script.
Tip:
Unless you have a fast sd-card (Class 6 or Class 10), you should let your /data partition on your internal memory. Moving it to sd-ext could cause slowness. Move dalvik cache and system/app instead.
After you install one of these scripts, you can finally enjoy the extended memory of your phone.
Note: For most scripts, you will not see the actual ext partition as a memory extension (like, instead of 148 mb, you will not have 1148mb), but it will be there, doing its job.

Still getting low memory warning?
1. Use the above suggested app to check your partition.
2. Are you using the correct hboot for your ROM?
3. Did you actually install a script? Did you configure it correctly (Mounts2sd)?
4. You may be having way too many apps, even for your extended memory. Uninstall some. Remember that memory is still limited.
5. Maybe your ROM doesn't support init.d scripts (needed for a2sd). Check out this thread :

Weirdly enough, I partitioned an older 4 gb class 2 sd-card just to see step to step what happens, and 4 ext didn't ask for a second ext partition. Maybe the latest versions are this way.
Anyways, i made the modifications.

few suggestions after also reading many Q&A threads:
- recommended size of partition
simply depends on how many apps users want to install, surprising how some users don't understand this.
- gparted section,
might as well link a video, always much easier to follow once you've seen it.
- using the ext partition
a lot of users expect their internal memory to read "internal + ext partition", when actually the partition is already in use without flashing any additional scripts. recommend first to check the ext partition is in use by installing various apps: diskusage, quick system info pro or titanium backup.
In many cases users won't have to 'use the move to sd' function, just keep apps on internal will trick apps to ext-partition. again this depends on the script, but can be checked as above.
when flashing different a2sd script, is it not necessary to delete the previous script first in /system/etc/init.d? not tried this myself but i would assume it may cause conflicts. definitely recommend nandroid backup and dalvik wipe before flashing any of these!
could also add a note to say that generally it is better to keep app data on the /data partition for stability and performance, unless they have fast sd card.

Yh it says at the top just below the status bar, its very small so alot of people probably dont see/notice it. Like when u press to "remove all partitions and start from scratch" then u choose, lets say 1024, the next part press skip, but when u press skip the screen doesnt change apart from the wee writing at the top so some people think when they pressed skip nothing happend so they press skip again then it partitions sdcard. Hope that makes sense lol
And yh like eddie said it should be made a sticky or atleast u could ask Mr.Mefisto to add it to his everything desire guide.
Il add it to my sig anyway if thats ok with u?

one last thing i just spotted in gparted section steps 11 - 13:
just type free space following as the ext4 partition, briefly explain that ext4 is recommended as it should be slightly faster.
you can ask someone a bit more senior and with more knowledge to confirm, but i think you should remove the bit about swap, it's not necessary. It doesn't extend the memory in any way, in come cases can confuse the system. the custom rom would surely need a way to utilise swap, and most don't even bother afaik. you could in fact add a note to not include swap in case users were thinking about it.
another argument is that you instruct to skip swap in the 4ext recovery method, so should be consistent with gparted.

Hi, i took some screenshots of 4ext recovery while partitioning old sdcard. if u look at pic number 4 and 5 and look at the grey bar below status bar, it says "select a size for the first sd-ext partition" then on next pic it says "select a size for the 2nd sd-ext partition" then "select a size for the swap partition". Just thought id clear that up what i was on about yesterday anyway if u want u can use the pics for ur guide, just extract the zip file.

U should never use minitool, it creates bad partitions and does'nt align properly.

i think to be fair, when i first done mine back in november 2011 when i googled "how to partition sdcard" links with minitool seemed to pop up the most so i think people generaly go for that. but these days, if u search, 8/10 u will get to xda and 4ext so i dunno why they still choose it.

I made an ext3 partition using Gparted Livecd. But I couldn't make an ext4 one. Why? Maybe because i've a Class4 SD card?

It didn't give you the ext4 option?
There's an option in 4ext recovery to convert ext3 to ext4. Try that.

Hello evryone.I got the Desire today and I would very much like to do root on my phone.I'm a total novice about all this and I'd like to ask someone for help.When I go in the boot menu (volume down+power) i have this:

Revolutionary was used to s-off, which probably means that you have a custom recovery install as well.
Use volume down while in the bootloader to scroll down to RECOVERY. Then use power to select it. When the recovery boots up you should have either cwm (clockworkmod) or 4ext recovery installed. Tell me which one you have so that i can give you some more guidance.

I'm afraid that nothing of what you have said I do not have.When I select a recovery nothing happens,On the next screen I see icon of phone on the middle of the screen and two circular arrow.One point down and another point up,and then red tringle with an exclamation point in the middle.I tried several times and always the same.Is this serious problem?

Then you need to flash a recovery. Either through fastboot, or through the PB99img method.
Fastboot implies installing fastboot, adb and hboot drivers on your PC, downloading the recovery.img, and then using the command "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img".

Yep, thats pretty much correct. You go into the bootloader, wait a couple seconds and it should find the PB99IMG.zip that you placed on the root of your sdcard automatically. Then you press volume up to confirm the install, and then reboot. Go back into the bootloader and select recovery and you should now have 4ext recovery.
Forget about the fastboot command. That is just another method of installing 4ext, but its a bit more work. Since youre using the PB99IMG method you dont have to do this.
Once youre in recovery you have a few options:
Boring option- You can simply flash a root zip which will give you root access on the stock rom
Fun option- You can pick out a custom rom from the development section and flash it. Custom roms come prerooted, and have so many other advantages over stock. (Performance, a2sd for gaining more space for apps, battery life, customization, etc.)

Well anything over android 4+ wont run ideally on the desire.
My favorite stable rom is milwild's redux. You need to do a couple things before flashing to optimize your space usage. First create a 1GB ext4 partition using this guide. Then go here and download the PB99IMG_oxygenr2 zip. This is an hboot and will change the layout of the internal partition to maximize the amount of space for apps and app data. After youve downloaded it, rename it to PB99IMG.zip, and put it on the root of your sdcard. Then you go into the bootloader and install it the same way you did for 4ext. After that you go into 4ext, go to the wipe menu and choose "format all partitions (except sdcard)". Finally go to install zip from sdcard, select the rom i recommended above and flash it.

I have to admit that Gparted method for partitioning sd card somehow easiest for me.Again I have a few questions before I start my adventure installing milwild's redux ROM.

Doesnt matter. I never reboot...just format and install right after.

Doesnt matter where you put it on your sdcard. Once you go to the install menu, 4ext will allow you to browse the contents of your sdcard.

Yep, thats enough. Just browse to the zip, click on it, and click once again on the check mark to confirm the installation. The reboot and enjoy.

I did half the job, now the hard part remains.I installed 4EXT recovery and partitioned SD Card but not completely.I did everything like in the tutorial, but the internal memory is not increased.Here's a picture after finishing operations.
When I check the internal memory I have only 125MB.I repeated the operation three times, and the result is always the same.I Insert the CD with Gparted in the computer, boot and go to Gparted menu,delete SD Card and create first 6.4GB like fat32 primary partition.Then select second unalocated part of the SD card and create 1.1GB like ext4 primary partition.Complete operation and when i look into my SD card size is exactly same as in the Gparted (6.4GB) but internal memory is only 125MB.No idea what to do.

The storage that it shows in settings will not show the space on your ext partition. But don't worry, its working. You can download an app such as titanium backup which will show you the amount of space on your ext partition. If you're skeptical, try installing a few apps from the play store. If you're not getting any low memory errors you are good to go.

Try partitioning with 4ext. Also you should really switch to oxygenr2 hboot...with stock hboot you are wasting a ton of space on the system partition.

I will ty with 4EXT and please tell me one more thing.When finishing with partition SD Card with 4ext what is next?To put PB99IMG_oxygenr2.zip on SD Card and rename it to PB99IMG.zip and install it.Right?And after that put MildWild MW-9.5.zip ROM on SD Card, select it and install it and thats all or must do something more?

1. Partition sd with 4ext
2. Install the PB99IMG.zip using the bootloader (you DONT flash this with 4ext)
3. Go into 4ext > Wipe > format all partitions (except sdcard)

You still don't understand what has been explained before
Your internal memory will not read 'internal + sd-ext' because that's just the way the script works.
As long as the sd-card has been correctly partitioned, the A2SD script should work automatically. (you probably didn't need to use 4EXT if you follow the gparted guide exactly, but doesn't matter now)
Keep apps on internal i.e. don't 'Move to SD', and it will trick the apps apks and dalvik cache to sd-ext. You internal memory (/data) will fill up with app data (e.g. just the saved games). Another way to check is to install another app like 'diskusage', it will allow you to browse your partitions.
What is limiting you is that you are still on stock hboot. You should change to OxygenR2 hboot as advised. Currently on stock hboot your /system size is 250MB, but you're using only around ~95MB, wasting over 150MB.
If you switch to OxygenR2 hboot, the system size is 100MB, you'll waste only 5MB, and the rest gets converted to extra internal memory...total 332MB instead of 147MB...i.e. more space for apps
You should now
-nandroid backup
-flash oxygenR2 hboot, either by PB99IMG.zip method as advised, or using fastboot (search for guides)
-reboot back into recovery, full wipe and nandroid restore.

You don't need to root your phone any more. Any custom ROM will already be rooted.
