[Q] No network connection when using tasker to toggle airplane mode? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hi, everyone. I have an odd problem that I can't seem to find being addressed anywhere.
I have a couple of simple Tasker profiles that 1) turns on airplane mode when I go to bed and 2) once every hour during the night turns airplane mode off for a few minutes to check for any messages/emails.
The problem is that the phone doesn't appear to get a connection when the second profile turns airplane mode off for those couple of minutes. In the morning when I wake up my phone, I have no notifications, but a couple will pop up a few seconds after I wake it up for emails that were sent several hours ago, indicating that the sync didn't occur until I woke up the phone.
I've run tests to verify that Tasker is indeed activating the profile. I've also run an httpget in that profile to verify that there's no network connection at all. I've even tried running a Secure Settings plugin task to wake the CPU, but that didn't solve it either.
I made a thread in the tasker forums, but no one there seems to have a solution.
It seems like the problem is that turning airplane mode off doesn't "take" when Tasker is toggling it during deep sleep?
I'm rooted running Juggernaut 4.1, faux's kernel, and GideonX's OC/UV VM script.
Thanks

FYI, I found a workaround by using the wake screen option in Secure Settings. It works decently for now (doesn't drain battery as much as I feared), but there is the issue of the screen flashing for a couple of seconds every hour during the night.

[Q] Keep wifi connected when in standby mode

I bought a used HTC Surround to play with WP7 development. I have no phone service for it and just use wifi. I've found that wifi shuts off when in standby, has anyone found a way to keep it active when in standby? Or even a way to just keep it from auto going into standby? I searched around but didnt see anything.
If you keep it plugged in, wi-fi won't shut off.
The screen timeout can be set to never if you don't set a password, that way the screen won't go to sleep and the wifi will stay active.

[Q] Turn on bluetooth when in airplane mode

I use my phone with wifi for streaming video at home, if I put the phone into airplane mode and then turn wifi on I obviously save battery but then can't turn on bluetooth to use my BT stereo headphones anyone know of an app that will either just turn off the phone radio or let me turn on both wifi and bluetooth when under airplane mode.
I have spent hours in the market and tried a bunch of apps but nothing lets me turn off the phone radio and not lock bluetooth off.
Anyone know of an app that will handle this?
That is the purpose of airplane mode, to turn off BT and mobile network. You may want to save yourself trouble and turn off airplane mode. Besides, if you plan on using your phone on wifi as well as BT headphones, then you aren't saving any battery. What/who suggested you to regularly turn airplane mode on while using wifi as a battery saving technique? That just makes your phone useless for calls/text though I understand you can use the home phone for calls.
Check out an app called "Better Locale Airplane Mode" in the market. Its 99 cents. I havent used it but you can try it and see if it works.
Cm7 has this natively
-My life is a shooting range, people never change-
"Better Locale Airplane Mode" in the market, does work on my two Android 2.2 phones HTC Incredeble and LG Revolution.
The app sets the behavior options when airplane mode is enabed but does not act as a toggle itself, you use the toggle widgets to change the state of wifi and bluetooth on or off.
There is a nice battery savings to using this when not actually flying and only needing wifi and/or bluetooth

Using Tasker to save that battery

Just thought I would post some of my tasker setup to make my battery last a very long time!
First you need Tasker
You also need Secure Settings
And lastly you need Synker
if you want to make my settings super easy to install just download the two attached files and place them on the Sdcard in the Tasker folder.
userbackup.xml
userbackup.xml.txt
then start Tasker, click on the menu button and select Data then restore. This will place all my prebuilt settings in for you.
The first profile I have is Mobile. I have this profile made for when I am in my car but its settings are for anytime power is plugged in.
The things it does is: Turn on GPS, Turn off auto brightness, turn display brightness to max, turn auto sync on, turn media volume to full, turn display time out to one hour.
When unplugged from power it does the following: Turn off GPS, display turns off after 30 seconds, Auto brightness on, Auto sync off, wifi off.
The next setting turns on GPS automatically once maps or navigation is started then turns it off once you exit those apps.
The next one is the big battery saver! When the display is off it Turns off mobile data and wifi.
When the display turns on it will wait five seconds and then turn on mobile data.
lastly I have it setup to turn on mobile data every 2 hours and sync gmail then turn mobile data back off.
I have had tasker for a long time but never really dug into it until I got the SG2. I think this will make your battery last much much longer.
If anyone has better suggestions please add your input.

i have the same setup but use juice defender to do the same thing as tasker and synker. it can actually more, like sync more or less at certain times of the day. but i've been thinking about switching to tasker, might be more battery efficient.
i'm using secure settings to turn gps on\off too, based on what applications get run. i noticed the little tray icon only turns on when an app is actively using the gps tho. does that mean gps only uses battery when actually in use? but it seems like i get more battery with it turned off completely.
for mobile, i'm going to attach gps to my car's nfc sticker instead of when plugged in. might be a little faster for charging at home.
i guess you could use secure settings and tasker to only turn nfc on at the lockscreen. although i'm not convinced nfc uses much battery.
lets see... i'm also using tasker to immediately turn off the display if upside down (in my pocket).
it turns data off if i'm reading an ebook or watching a video.
i use it for 1 click switching between 2g and 4g.
i use it to switch cpu max between 192000, 918000, and 1728000. you can get crazy battery life by running 192000 all day, but everything will run slow. usually i keep it at 918000 and play games at 172800.
there are lots of other things, but that's the battery stuff.

Hey ,I just wanna say thanks I was getting 8 hours on a Verizon extended battery but now using your settings and tasker plus extra apps I'm getting 14 to 15 ,I just wanted to add that it in order to use secure setting you have to root your phone but it worth it.

Do you still have these backup files? The links are dead when I try them. I would like to try out your settings.
Reupload please

First post and it's a necro asking for something. I swear I used to have an account here in high school.
Anyway, I think those files are gone. Every time I come back to Tasker I try to start from the group up and a day later I'm fiending for backup.xmls/txt just whatever you use for your battery, please, just a quick string of code.

[Q] WiFi Sleep Policy Broken? Set To Off - But WiFi Turns Off...

Hi everyone,
Is the WiFi sleep policy working properly?
I've always belived that the leaving WiFi on durning the night (sync is left on) and it would take less power than using 3G (especially in a bad area)...
Basically, I leave my WiFi on, with the sleep policy set to never (uses more power), but looking at the battery stats, it turns off...
Please see screen shots attached... You can see that WiFi turns off...
Is this a bug?
Thanks, Matt
for some reason, both wifi and data turn off during the night. This is apparent when turning the phone on - gmail alerts of new email that was sent during the night.
So all data turns off durning the night? surely there is a setting for this?
I do see that me g-mail emails come through at 7 o clock in the morning...
hmmmm strange!
Thankis for the reply!
It's a common issue:

I'm experiencing it too..
It's not only during the night, but it seems that during the standby the HOX suspend randomly the connectivity
same here.
Must be a battery save that HTC implemented.
We should def have the option to change this though.
lol mine is the opposite. I set my wifi to sleep when screen is off, but it keeps changing back to always on when screen off.
Kinda annoying

Question Turn on Do Not Disturb manually at night, have it turning off in the morning at exact hour

Before Do Not Disturb even existed I used quite a few apps (llama, Phone Profiles Plus, Sound Profile) to achieve sound management over night. Unfortunately at some points in time some of these failed to work due to more aggressive battery management of my newer phones or after software updates that broke things.
However now I feel that DND provides more options and is a more elegant solution...if it would do what I want.
I would like to turn it *manually* on, go to sleep, and have it turned off at 8:00 AM. Anyone found a way to do that?
You can set a schedule to turn on and off automatically. You can also turn it on manually then set it to turn off automatically. You select how many hours you want it on.
