Hi!
I've rooted and re-flashed my HTC Desire to run MIUI, which is excellent, I can highly recommend it.
I didn't unlock it as it didn't need unlocking at the time, however now that i've upgraded to a new device (SGS2) I've handed the Desire over to my father and since he uses GiffGaff he bought an unlock code from a site recommended by GiffGaff.
We've got the code, when you put the GiffGaff sim in it comes up with the screen asking for an unlock code. Screen has a text box, an Unlock button and a Dismiss button.
Enter the code carefully as supplied.
Click the Unlock button and then while the keyboard *remains* displayed on the screen, the phone goes in to normal home screen (though still can't get a connection).
If you then reboot the phone it goes right back to asking you for an unlock code again.
Question then is: Do I need to reflash the phone back to stock to unlock it? Or could it be a faulty code?
There's no errors or other notes that we can see coming back on the screen.
Thanks!
Matt.

Hi,
Apologies for the delay in replying to this.
I just had the chance to try this over the weekend and can confirm the Linux ISO worked fantastically.
Thanks for the pointer, should have seen that myself really, sorry!
Cheers
Matt.

Hey guys, this is an extremely time-sensitive question!
I'm leaving the country in the next few days for about 5-weeks.
I did all the background necessary tasks ensuring my Telus-Branded HTC Desire will function properly while overseas.
I ordered my unlock code from MobileinCanada, I have purchased one from them before in the past aswell.
However, this time around, the unlock code doesn't seem to hold. It said that the device is unlocked successfully, however, I still cannot choose a network or make an outgoing call.
Rebooting the device simply asks me to put in the code again and the cycle then repeats.
I was wondering if it can possibly be ROM related? If I were to get off CM7 and head back to something more stock... would the phone unlock properly? Or is the problem in the code I was given?
Thank you SO VERY MUCH!
Search for a topic called similar unlock utility. Its in one of the Desire forums. If that works, get your money back.

Hello,
I bought a Samsung Captivate Glide i927 (Rogers), and it was locked. In my country, I went to a local phone shop and they unlocked the phone. But after 1 month of normal using, the phone was locked again. So I went again and unlock the phone for the second time. Unfortunatly, after 1 month of using, the phone was locked again. Why? I don't know.
It was after I was restarting the phone. The phone asked me to enter the PIN code as usual. I entered the PIN code that I usually enter which is 0000. The phone writes "code accepted" then after 1 second the phone shows a black screen in which I read that the PIN code is incorrect and I have to contact the provider. I can use the phone applications, but I can't call or send a text message. I always receive "Not registered on the network". When I write *#746562#, the phone give me a list of information in which I read "Network Lock [ON]".
How to unlock my phone Again? Where I have to get the unlocking code? Is it free? is it for 1 month or for ever? What is the problem in my phone? Is there a trusted website where I can buy the unlocking code forever?
I unlocked an SGH-I927R in a way that's kept the IMEI intact and that's not out of reach for anyone with a bit of technical ability. It does require ADB, a hex editor and either root or CWM.

This came way too late ... I used Fast-GSM ... it takes longer than usual, I don't get an actual unlock code but did it with my ACE as well.
Its a bit more expensive, but hook his app up via USB w/ debugging, run the unlock tool whamo. Unlimited ROM installed, rebooting etc. Cyangenmod and it stayed unlocked.
Now, also on my i927r (Rogers) same deal stays unlocked.
I do wish I had seen this thread earlier, great that there's free ways to unlock it and pull out the code. Big thanks for doing that write up!

I followed all the steps that I could and am still unable to unlock: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2024514
my phone is originally kodoo (t989d)
The owner that gave me the phone claimed that it was unlocked but I am uncertain and am on the pessimistic edge of whether that is true or not. When I insert a SIM while the phone is off and then turn the phone on it does not ask me for an unlocked code, and never has even after starting up and using the phone, but the notificationas area gives me the message that 'network locked sim card inserted' .
Everything up to the point where I have to enter the #???# code works fine but when i input that code nothing happens ever, no menu opens up or anything. when I press call it says 'not registered on network.
The radio I have is t989uvle1 and the kernel is 3.0.8-perft989dtllg2.......
Honest to god I have been searching the forums since 12am (now 8 hours) and am just completely lost. I dislike posting like this because I have to wait for replies but in this case I really cannot find anything.
I have read recommendations of flashing a tmobile rom or changing the kernel or something but am really clueless on how to do this and have tried flashing random 4.1+ roms to no avail. can anyone shed some light and set my in a right (and very specific) direction. what the heck is going on???
Are you able to make phone calls with the new SIM card?

Someone answered this in the other thread you copy pasted this to.
You need to have an ics rom and stock radio. Or something like that.

Hi,
I just purchased a used T-Mobile G3 that I will be using on AT&T. Does anyone have any pointers on how to SIM unlock it? Is there a preferred method, or preferred supplied on eBay for unlock codes?
Thanks,
Toby.

OK, so I bought a code there, and 5 hours later is still hasn't arrived. So I bought a code from these guys: http://www.imei-unlocker.com/ which did come through. However, there are no instructions, so I found some on YouTube for the G3, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TFWgPX5Al8
The trouble is, when I put in my AT&T SIM card into this T-Mobile phone and start it up, I am not prompted to unlock the phone at all. It starts right into Android and behaves like an unlocked phone except it says the network is locked when I try to make a call. That's it. No indication anywhere of how to access the unlocking mode. I'm stuck.
Edit: I found these instructions on T-Mobile's website, which confirm the method in the video:
http://support.t-mobile.com/docs/DOC-11974
Edit #2: about half hour after I wrote this the unlock code came through from the first site. I still no idea how to get past not being prompted to unlock, though.
Thanks,
Toby.
OK, resolved, if it helps anyone.
I managed to find an alternative method somewhere else that doesn't rely on an alien SIM card prompting an unlock code.
So the code from unlockcode247.com did eventually arrive, but without any instructions. A couple of hours after ordering it I gave up and bought a code from somewhere else. The email with that code took about 20 hours (!) to arrive, despite their page saying it would take a maximum of 2 hours. Bah! At least it contained a range of instructions on different methods to unlock in addition to the basic one of putting in an alien SIM. Someone might find these useful:
Method #1 Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#”
for example if its a p999 you enter “2945#*999#” or if its a p990 you enter “2945#*990#” etc…
[so that's 851 for my T-Mobile phone.]
Method #2 to the dial screen and press 2945#*71001# as if making a call, enter code when prompted
Method #3 Go to the dial screen and press *#865625# as if making a call, enter code when prompted

I do find it strange that the phone didn't react to an alien SIM, but oh well, it's great that there's another way around it. All unlocked fine now.
do not use imei-unlocker
I ordered 2 days ago from imei-unlocker but no response, i have sent them various emails but no response.
On the website It says delay for lg services. Maybe thats why?

Since this was a used phone it is possible that someone tried and failed unlocking it more than the maximum allowed tries.
I know whenever I have unlocked a phone, the prompt to unlock warns that you have x number of tries (I do not remember that number).
Also, I do not know if there is a way around it.

As long as you don't have any debt to T-Mobile don't they need to have a free solution to unlock your phone? For example if I called them right now they would unlock me for free even though I still have debt because I have had the phone for 6+ months. People got it unlocked through T-Mobile days after buying the phone by just saying they were going abroad.

I believe he has his unlock code. The problem is that when he boots up the phone with a different carrier's sim in it, it is not prompting him to enter an unlock code as it should.
Looking at my unlock instructions, I proposed the posibbility that someone tried and failed 10 times or more. Just guessing:
Read This First
* DO NOT use all attempts to enter the unlock code otherwise your phone will be hardlocked (all phones have at least 10 attempts)
* Make sure "Airplane Mode" and "Wi-Fi" is turned off under wireless connections if your LG is an Android device.
It also has other methods for trying. Perhaps another method will work:
Method #1 Insert a non accepted simcard, and enter code when prompted for a code
OR
Method #2 Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#”
for example if its a p999 you enter “2945#*999#” or if its a p990 you enter “2945#*990#” etc…
OR
Method #3 to the dial screen and press 2945#*71001# as if making a call, enter code when prompted
OR
Method #4 Go to the dial screen and press *#865625# as if making a call, enter code when prompted
Quick question.... I just got my unlock code from Tmo. I was wondering if the unlock is retained no matter how much somebody may root/unroot/change ROMs/etc. Is it a "forever" thing? Or just for the current setup? Oh and do I unlock with Tmo SIM in or with the ATT one?
*Edit* oops replied to the op, disregard this post.
What would be the optimal way?
I 'd prefer a free way, if I wont brick it.
Sorry for the dumb question, I googled, but found no info on it except sellers trying to sell unlock codes.
This is my first phone I need to tinker with so I'm confused.
Thank you in advance!
If anyone has the same issue, its pretty easy to do so.
att . com/deviceunlock/#/
Just complete the form and it you get the unlock code immediately. Be sure to confirm from the email, and then dont wait for the next email but go immediatly to the "check device unlock request status" or something like that(its a link they will give you once you confirmed the request).
