I made a car dock for my Kindle Fire and since it has limited storage space I would like to stream media files from my 4gt to the Fire. I connect the devices using Sprint's Hotspot app.
How can I get the Kindle to view the files on the 4gt?
***I can't say if it will work or not as I haven't tried it using my phone via the hotspot option, I've only used the following method using a portable wifi hard drive, just pointing out options that MAY work***
If it's media files like audio & video you can try installing Buzz Player (it's a paid app BTW) from the Android Market onto your Kindle.
Once connected to your phone via Hot-spot wifi, open Buzz Player on your Kindle and look for a button called "Network Media". Push it and you should see your media files from your phone.
But just to note, the player does not do any type of transcoding. So if your phone has a format not supported by your Kindle, I don't think it will play. You'll have to convert the formats first.
Buzz Player natively supports the following formats:
Container formats: 3GP, AVI, ASF, FLV, MKV (Matroska), MOV (QuickTime), MP4, NUT, Ogg, OGM, RealMedia, Bink, WMV, XVID, DIVX.
Video formats: Cinepak, DV, H.263, H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, HuffYUV, Indeo, MJPEG, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Part 2, RealVideo, Sorenson, Theora, WMV, Bink
Audio formats: AAC, AC3, ALAC, AMR, DTS, FLAC, Intel Music Coder, Monkey's Audio, MP3, Musepack, RealAudio, Shorten, Speex, Vorbis, WMA, Bink.

Up to full HD quality (1920 x 1080 pixels) for mp4 media files (mp4, m4v, mpv)
Up to HD quality (1280 x 720 pixels) for other media files (flv, mkv, wmv, avi, asf, divx, xvid, dat, vob, mpg…)
Thanks for the link. No free version to try, so not worth the $5 IMO. Although there is a 15 minute return window, so I might give it a shot later.

Well before I begin can your Kindle recognize your phones hotspot connection off the bat?
Thinking back to my situation, I was connecting my phone (rooted Evo) to my tablet using wireless tether, so that may be why I had to have my tablet in Ad-Hoc mode.
I never used the hotspot option.

The native Sprint hotspot feature will create an Infrastructure wifi point. The wireless tether apps from the market (PDA Connect, Wireless Tether, etc) create an ad-hoc wifi point. Most tablets cannot see the ad-hoc connections without some modifications. Most tablets should be able to see the Sprint infrastructure connection without issue.
Now, slightly off-topic (but your discussion of the buzz player made me think of it). If I purchase Buzz player for my E4GT can I also use the same app on my Acer Iconia tablet without having to purchase a second copy? Anyone know how the licensing works for these apps?
Es Explorer and use the LAN feature.. If it shows you are on the same network you can transfer files between the two. I stream from my pc to my phone or tablet with it all the time and its free

From pc to phone or tablet I'd say yes it works. But he's needing the option to stream his contents from his phone to tablet while on the go.

That is correct & I beleive both devices have to be rooted as it makes changes to the wpa_supplicant file. I don't think it can be done on non-rooted devices to create a peer-to-peer (Ad-Hoc) connection as one would need super user permissions to modify that file. I think, unless there is some work around that I'm unaware of.

Yes, this is correct. I used ZT180 (sp?) Ad-Hoc switcher on the Kindle Fire to change to ad-hoc mode when I was using Wireless Tether. Sprint Hotspot, however, creates a standard infrastructure connection.
So, If I were to use the ad-hoc connection would this increase my chances of sharing files?

You can connect the device as a Bluetooth head set to each other and it will stream all audio from the et4g to the other device. I've done it before

Thanks, but I'm trying to stream video and unfortunately the Kindle Fire doesn't yet "support" bluetooth. In other words, a bluetooth chip has been found, but it's not activated...

Can't say for sure except to try it. I know that even if your able to pair the two devices together doing that by itself would probably not allow you to see the files on your phone. For that you would need an app (on your phone) that shares your media & then from your Kindle open up Buzz Player, click on the Network Media button & see if the files from your phone are there.
So it would go something like this:
1. Pair your devices
2. From your phone open an app that shares your files (i.e. AllShare) or something similar. choose which files to share
3. From your Kindle open Buzz Player, click the Network Media button
4. See if files from phone show up in Buzz Player
5. If so play away to your hearts content.

Switched to Ad-hoc mode today with no luck. I can "see" the server on the phone using File Expert, but when I click an icon to open the phone's contents nothing happens.

I don't need it because I know a way to use the wifi network to share your media libraries and stream the media to your phone. It's way better. I also can do it through Bluetooth.

It works as a virtual drive. I have one and it is very useful in the house since I dont have to connect my hardrive to anything in order to access it. another useful thing i do with is transfer files...my brother has the password to it so he downloaded the desktop plugin. Now whenever we want to show each other a movie or song...we just copy and paste the file onto the virtual drive like we would a folder on our computer and we have full access to the newly uploaded content...
the only draw back is in playback of your movies and music when not on the same network...it takes a while to load, and you have to deal with constant buffering.

i dont have any troubles with buffering personally, i watch stuff at work from my hard drive at home without any troubles.
Just set this up again after trying it out about a year ago. It's AWESOME!
Requires a donation for the server after a month trial, but it's well worth it.
I can stream my ENTIRE multimedia library (which is stored on my home Windows 7 machine) to my phone. Flawlessly.
Music AND video files!
All the work is done server side, so it'll transcode (on the fly) files into whatever bitrate mp3 you specify.
For video, I have it set up to transcode into flash video, which works FLAWLESSLY on the Epic Touch!
The Android app can be set to cache ahead so if you lose a data signal your music is still there.
This combined with WoL magic packets means I can remotely turn on my home PC and have instant access to gigabytes - nay, terabytes - of media.
Take THAT iCrap! (Actually, there's iOS clients too, though they'd have trouble with the flash video....)

cool, i bet you'd rather me have access to your subsonic server than your network shares.
there's 25 or so of my friends that have access to my Subsonic with bitrate settings etc, its incomparable.
i have an apple & an orange if you want to debate their similarities.
Yeah, a network share is cool and has it's advantages, but this is something completely different.
On the fly transcoding and cache ahead are huge - especially for drives through the mountains where data is slow / non-existent.
I really like being able to give anyone access too.

There arn't user rights yet, but its a common request from what I see.
You can also get gap-less playback on your droid by creating a new transcoder for ogg with a single step 'oggenc --quiet --quality=9 -o - %s'. Then set the player for your doid to use only that transcoder. Now you are streaming ogg instead of mp3.

I Figured it out, I had to change some of the settings on my router. The app is great but Im liking Audio galaxy a little bit better, besides the fact there is no options to add users.
I want to be able to stream varies video files (avi, mkv, etc) to my N7 from my PC while away from home. Tried looking to see if this was already talked about but couldn't see anything.
Tried Plex however unsuccessful in setting it up? Any links or suggestions or best app's or tutorial on setting this up? UPnP/DLNA or FTP (old school way)? Plex or BubbleUPnP or something else?
FYI....running Windows 7 x64 at home. Have N7 connected to my i9100 most of the time. Have newer Netgear WNDR3700-100NAS Wireless Gigabit Open Source Router at home. Also my N7 is not rooted.

If you enable file sharing you can use es file explorer and dice player to stream from your PC but it has to be on the same network. I've been watching movies this way since I got my nexus and it works great. There's no lag or having to wait for buffer.
You should just go download qloud video server and then thank me after... I guarantee its exactly what you're looking for... easy to setup and works perfect ... seriously don't know why more people don't recommend this!

I'd say Plex too, don't really like Orb's interface, but if the OP was having issues setting up Plex (a very easy process in my experience) I would think that they will have similar issues with any other service.
Does Subsonic handle video? If so, Subsonic = instant win... I use it for music. Couldn't ask for much more than what Subsonic offers.
Note: It's free for basic use, but for mobile use you need to donate a few bucks to unlock a key to use it with mobile devices as well. I donated like 15 bucks. EASILY worth it. I hook up my N7 to some 2.0 speakers on my deck and stream from my server downstairs.

i dunno about App, but the old school way is indeed the easiest way. set up FTP server in ur PC, open and forward FTP port from your router, use ES File Explorer to add the WAN IP address as FTP server.
of course, 2 issues:
- if u got Dynamic IP (standard home cable/satellite broadband) then u need to update it every now and then
- i cant guarantee it can "stream" if using a FTP setup.
the alternative is of course using ur router, setup a Virtual server, and share the windows machine. if u set it up securely and use the correct ports, then it could be the better solution. but im not sure how to configure it with Netgear.

Smb , ftp , http support with external sub files.
No rooting is required.
Plex is fairly simple to setup. Need to make sure you UPnP on your router, if not then set the default port in the firewall on the router for the app. After you install, launch your browser or right click the icon in the task tray. Web address is http://computerIP:32400/manage. You will then tell it where your TV, Movies, Pictures, and Music folder is and let it sit for awhile depending so it can gather all the metadata.
I have been using Plex for over a year now and it just keeps getting better. I use it on all my devices when I am out and use Plex Media on my desktop connected to the TV or stream to xbox on my office TV.
Also create an account with plex forums and you can use it to log in in the web GUI and it will make it easier to connect to your N7 while out of the house.

I set this up yesterday and it works beautifully. It's supposed to be for Motorola phones but you can get a patched version from here:

Setup is as easy as making an account and logging in to it on your PC and device. You also have to download the PC software from the zumocast site. I've tested this away from home and it works great. Streams videos, music, and basically opens any file up (like documents, pictures..etc)
Plex is best...
Ps3 media server/universal media server->mediahouse->dice or MX player and your good to go

Ok, I know I'm not crazy, but is there ANY way, besides Bluetooth, to transfer large files between the LGOG and another Phone?
I've tried the LGOG's FileShare app but it refuses to recognize my GS3 even after they both connect via Wi-Fi Direct. And just using plain ol' Wi-Fi Direct doesn't even come up as a sharing option on this phone. I can't use NFC obviously because it's only intended for small files and links. I've already tried bluetooth, but I have another thread floating around this forum detailing my experience with my LGOG being unable to connect to ANY other phone after it powercycled when connected to a friend's GS3. (On a side note, it did it AGAIN when I was connected to my bluetooth speaker today)
This is the only thing that freaking bugs the hell out of me about this device. The lack of options to wirelessly share files between devices. Obviously my bluetooth is most likely defective. Waiting on a custom OS to see if that will resolve my BT issues. But come on, this is ridiculous.

Oh, and the SmartShare app limits you to only Pictures, Video, and Music!
You could always connect both phones to a PC and put them in MTP mode (not charge mode) and the PC will recognize them both as a media player, allowing you to browse the entire file system. Then just copy the file from one phone to the other using PC.
Can't WiFi direct be used? I know you tried it but maybe your doing something wrong. Sadly I've never messed with it

Well, I have a GS3 also. On that phone, whenever you long press on a file/app and click "Share", Wi-Fi Direct comes up as one of the options to use as a file transfer medium. All you have to do is clock wifi direct and click the device and BOOM! The file starts sending. However, on the LGOG, it's not that simple for some odd reason. I can turn on wifi direct on both phones AND link them. But if i wanna send a file from my LGOG to another wifi direct device, it doesn't come up as a share option. You can open up Smartshare and use the LGOG like a DLNA server and play/upload music, movies, and pictures from the LGOG to the other wifi direct device. But Smartshare (unless i'm using it wrong) only limits you to those three options. What if I want to transfer an 850MB .zip or .iso file???
You could try "samba file sharing" on the market. Phone should show as a samba share on your windows network. Then you can use es file explorer, LAN, access the share. Have not tried, but this should enable wireless file sharing.

Haha, so funny that you mentioned that app. I did an intense search and ended up stumbling on Samba Fileshare a few hours after my last post. Has a tendency to force close every now and then but it works pretty good.
I have a codec called ARM v7 Neon, but my tablet's processor is Exynos 5 Octa.
Since I am having stuttering issues with HD video streamed over AC WiFi, I figured maybe the codec was an issue.
If I aim my AC-enabled laptop at the same HD video file over the same WiFi connection it plays on Windows Media Player without a hitch.
MX player is good for about 25 seconds of "good" playback before the audio clipping (?) sets in. It's not horrendous - the speakers are legible and the image looks perfect. Pausing playback for five seconds and then resuming gives another 25 seconds of good playback.
So.... have I got the right codec?
Some other issue?

Can you tell me what the total bit rate is and is in an .mp4, .mkv, .avi or .mov?

It is a .MPG file recorded straight from the over-the-air stream.
Windows.Properties.Video says Total Bitrate = 16,408kbps, Data rate = 16,216kbps
Windows.Properties.Audio says Bit rate = 192kbps, Audio sample rate = 48 kHz
I've got a trimmed version (2 minutes/200 megs) that I could post somewhere, but to reproduce the problem it would have to be viewed over 802.11AC.
Video looks a-ok, it's the audio that is problematic. Over N, audio is almost unintelligible right from the start. But over AC it's perfect for about the first ten seconds and then playback has to be paused for five seconds to get perfect playback for another 20-30 seconds. But even when it's "bad" under AC, it's not nearly as bad as under N.
But I have to keep coming back to the fact that an AC-capable laptop has no problems at all.
Exynos is an Arm proc.... The problem is not the codec.

Video stream playback issues are hard to track down so it may take a lot of trial and error. So get ready for a lot of questions.
I think this could be an audio codec issue not video.........
If you give me a link to that trimmed file I can test it as I have an AC1300 router.
Are you making these video files or are you downloading them? If your making them can I ask why are you using .mpg over say .mkv or .mp4 as I believe those have better audio codec choices.
When you go into your tablets wifi settings what is the link speed in Mbps?
Are you the same distance from the router when you use the laptop and the tablet? Are you streaming this from your computer or from a drive on the router?
Have you installed an app like Wifi Analyzer to see what your signal stream looks like.
Have you tried a few of the other video players in the play store like the ones below to see if they may work better.

They are coming right off the air via a SilconDust tuner.

It's all over the place. Seems like it returns some recent figure rather than the max speed.
I've seen well over 400kbps and the Ubiquiti "UniFi Controller" app used for setup and oversight of the WAP is reporting "40.0M" right now as the tablet is playing the video.
Are you the same distance from the router when you use the laptop and the tablet?

Yes, approximately 3 feet - on the corner of a kitchen table next to the TV stand where the WAP lives.

Here is what WiFi Analyzer shows - with the tablet in the same position as when playing the vid:
CH36 5180 MHz -45dBm
Have you tried a few of the other video players in the play store like the ones below to see if they may work better.

I've tried the native Samsung player, MoboPlayer, BS Player, and a couple others whose names escape me at the moment. On all, the playback was worse than MX Player's. I will try the other three on the list and report back.

OK, got the file.
Voice to lips is off on desktop pc, converted to.MP4 voice is right on and file went from 200mb to 145mb with same compression. What model SilconDust tuner are you using as the picture is great. So is your stream from a recorded file on your hard drive or a direct live stream from your SilconDust tuner.
How are you getting the signal to your tablet, with an app?
Streams to my SM-P600 using MXplayer on a 5GHz N router voice is out of sync a little but no audio clipping for entire 2 minute clip.
Will update later about the 5GHz AC router as it is at my home.
Download the newest XBMC alpha and try that one.

All I can find on the devices is "Silicon Dust HD HomeRun Dual ATSC Tuner". No model numbers. I have two boxes. Each box has two tuners in it.
I use SageTV to schedule and record. As I understand it from the SageTV docs there is zero processing/transcoding going on. Sage just takes the signal from the HD HomeRun and writes it to disc. Voice/video synch for the local PBS station is not always that wonderful - even when viewed directly on my TV.
How are you getting the signal to your tablet, with an app?

That one may have gone over my head.
I am using FX File Manager to link to the Windows-shared drive on the PC where the files live. When I "Open" a .mpg file, Android turns it over to MX Player unless I do an "Open With". So I *think* the answer is that the tablet app is reading the file directly.

Unencumbered by any knowledge of this stuff, I'm starting to think I have a problem with my tablet. If it plays OK on your P600 over the AC router maybe you can share the exact filenames of both your video and audio drivers and, hopefully, there will be a difference against mine....

I wound up with something called xmbc-13.0-Gotham_alpha11-armeabi-v7a.apk.
But MX Player Pro | Settings | Decoder | General | Custom Codec | (navigated to folder containing abovementioned .apk) threw "Cannot Load Custom Codec. Use Default Codec Instead."
I mean install the apk and try to play the video with XBMC.
Definitely best player out there.

Your file plays in a stream without any clipping over my AC router.

Can you say what "drivers" you are using for audio and video?
Quotes because I am not cure of the terminology.... "Codecs" ?
I'm thinking that if it plays ok on your P600 over AC, the problem must be in my P600 - especially since it plays ok on my Windows laptop over AC.
We are both using MX Player, right?

Please tell me were your files reside (computer, laptop, router??) and how your laptop gets and plays them VS. how does you tablet get access to those files.
My files are stored on a hard drive that is attached to a USB port on my AC router, my tablet uses MediaHouse UPnP / DLNA browse to gain access to those files and then MX Player opens the video file for viewing.

The problem file resides on a 2-TB hard drive that is connected to a Windows 7 PC.
I *think* the laptop and the tablet access the file in the same manner: via a Windows connection as in NET USE - but I don't know enough about Android (or, for that matter, Windows) to say the methods are exactly the same. All I can say for sure is that, in both cases, I specify a DeviceName\ShareName to make the connection. The tablet is using v2.3.0.10 of the "FX" file manager with the FX "Network" add-in. I get the directory list in FX, tap on the file name, and MX Player takes over.
On the laptop, I'm using Windows Media Player.

I tried your file again using FX file manager and I get the same results, smooth playback entire time.
The 2tb drive your using is it a portable drive? How many hard wired devices are sharing your network? How many wireless devices share your network?
I have a tivo, TV and a computer hard wired on my network and only my table uses my wireless connection. Have you tried using Media House that I mentioned in one of my other postings, you may get a different result and it shows album art and shows a photo from video as an icon.
