can anyone get the auto focus to happen automatically on the camera? only way for me is to tap the screen or hold the capture button. just wanted to know if that is normal because what i liked about the 4s was that it would actually autofocus during camera mode. thanks
i'm finding the same type of issue lately...
every time i attempt to use the camcorder the autofocus does not function at all. i remember it did work at one point...now if i get within like 4-6 inches of anything it's blurred. and can't screen tap to focus.
frustrating.
I seem to be having the same issue lately, the camera autofocus does not appear to be working for me either. my front camera takes perfectly clear pictures but the 8 megapixel rear camera photos look horrible now. blurry blurry blurry I have tried installing a couple of different camera apk's.... going to install another 1 now and see if that changes things. if not I will soon tar back to a completely stock set up and see how the camera works .

I'm running the M1 release of CM10 on my Galaxy S3.
With the stock ROM the camera was FAST. I could snap pictures of fast moving things and the phone would take a picture when I touched the shutter button.
With CM10, it is horrid. When I press the shutter button the camera spends a few seconds slooooowly focusing and THEN takes the picture. If, in advance, I do a touch to focus it will snap the next picture quick but then it goes back to dragging.
Any way to make the stock camera app not suck? I had this same issue with CM7 on my Evo, I was really hoping to not have it. Maybe I'm just doing something dumb??
Did you change the focus mode from Auto? I think it's the only one that pre-focuses before taking a picture.
I've cycled through all of the focus types to try and find one that works quickly. Continuous, Fixed, Macro, Infinity - they all spend time focusing whenever I press the button.

I think it is the flash firing. When I set the camera mode up right with the flash turned off I get crazy fast pictures (yay!). When the flash fires though, it pre-fires the flash (I'm guessing to judge light??) then does a quick focus, then flashes. So low light photos will suck, but photos that don't need a flash will be OK.
Any way to improve the flash situation?
Anyone else had camera focus issues, the camera app focus nice when I click on the screen, but when it takes the picture it jumps out of focus.
Really easy to see if you try and take close picture of a paper with text, focus, and take the picture, then you see how bad it turns up.
Tried installing zoom fx camera app, here I was not able to focus at the text at all with the touch on screen to focus.
Anyone know of a fix, real bummer going back to stock after trying the room.
But I need a working camera.

Installed v 2.2 from thread below and that fixed it (yes, v 2.3 is there, but I downloaded wrong version)

after upgrading to a KitKat rom (Paranoid) my camera is pretty much useless.
I tap the screen to focus. Click the button to take the picture. It goes from a perfectly clear picture to a completely out of focus picture. I never had this issue before.
I have went through my settings and do not see a manual focus setting.
Try a different camera app, I bought and use camera fx. If you use aosp roms frequently, I would suggest trying out a few camera apps and figure out which one works best for you. Again, aosp camera is pretty much junk, imo!

i thought it was packaged with the nexus 5 camera... i will try many.. thanks for the tip
i flashed cm11 gee for my wife. She notice the camera is not very responsive. it will take 1-2 seconds for the phone to finish taking the picture and the focus is not very sharp. anyway to improve the camera app? or should i use another camer app? another rom?
thanks.
Anyone else give the modded camera a try. I just installed it & I didn't experience any issues. I'll test it some more tomorrow though

Im using Mod rom viper 10 5.1.1
Im realise that latest HTC camera for HDR+ seems like have compress picture to reduce noise in the picture same like google camera apps,
I also try modded google camera apps and the result was almost the same (noise reducing)
which version u installed guys?U have weird noise pattern in low light?
Yeah, super noisy for me too, stock cam takes way better pics.
Are you all on stock or AOSP
I've tried this on both stock and PureFusion, there's always a noise pattern but it's most noticeable in low light pics. The noise starts about 1/4 of the screen away from the home button and continues to the edge of the picture facing the selfie cam. It's only our phone that has this issue so it'll likely never be corrected.
This is somewhat disappointing, as I was hoping this would help camera quality on AOSP roms. I loved LOS, but I couldn't take a good picture to save my life. The stock sense ROM camera really makes use of that camera sensor, as it should. Still kind of bugs me the Google Camera doesn't make better use of the sensor, since it uses the same camera sensor as the 5X/6P (10 has OIS, where the 5x/6p does not), and those phones take great pictures. I know there's more to it than just "your phone has *x* sensor, so we can take some great pics". It's just a little annoying, is all.
