Hi everyone,
i just tried to root my unbranded stock 2.1 desire with unrevoked - everything worked fine, there were no errors during the process and after that the phone started clockwerk recovery.
I rebooted the device - and everything seemed to be ok (Root working fine, just did a Titanium backup) but when trying now to enter clockwerk recovery again, the phone is always stuck in the bootscreen (htc logo) and the only way to get back is to pull out the battery.
Does anyone have an idea what could cause this and what i could to to fix this? I waited for more than 15minutes, but nothing is happening and i see no way to enter recovery (and then flash a new rom) again.
Thanks in advance,
jp

What process are you using to enter Recovery?
Entering Fastboot (Power+Vol down) and then selecting Recovery from the Menu....
By the way, after entering fastboot (and before i can select Recovery) there are always a few textlines showing up (too fast to read, but i think somthing like p99xyz.zip is mentioned), it seems like he is searching or updating something....

Yeah that is normal. The text always scrolls there, nothing to worry about.
So when you highlight Recovery and press "Power" it just goes to HTC Screen and doesn't get any further?
If so, it sounds like your recovery has been corrupted somehow?
****I am not 100% sure about the advice I am going to give, so take no responsibility, wait for someone else to confirm****
1. Try reinstalling the permanent recovery via unrEVOked again.
If that doesn't work try:
2. Reinstall a stock RUU which should reset your phone back to stock, ensure it is an original one with a stock Eclair image (not FROYO).

Hi all. First let me begin by saying I'm NOT new to rooting and I have a pretty good knowledge of what I'm doing.
Here is my problem. I WAS rooted before, and used Rom Manager/Clockwork to preform Nandroid backups etc.
I recently received a replacement EVO (cracked housing) and wanted to root again, which I have, with SU permissions and S-OFF using the latest version of unrEVOked. (this is after the December update to 3.70 with hboot 2.10) No problem with rooting, however when I want to do a nandriod back up, thru Rom Manager, (or alternative methods) I get stuck on the white EVO boot screen. I CAN NOT boot into recovery? Weird right?
EDIT: When I try to enter recovery in any fashion, it hangs on the white EVO screen...forever until I do a battery pull.
EDIT: Sorry, I CAN enter bootloader, however once there, I attempt to enter "recovery" and it bounces me back to the menu. This happens both via ROM Manager and the traditional way of "POWER" button and "Vol Down".
EDIT (again): Okay..I used Amon RA to preform a nandroid back up,(which worked) and now I'm stuck in a bootloop! Ugh! Trying to restore my Nanadroid backup using RA..hopefully that works and I can revert back to Clockwork.
Jesus...
Any help would be much appreciated!
Thanks!

Let me know what you do to fix it. I'm just going to put the 3.7 RUU on sd card and restore to default? Here is the link. Hopefully this works.

I have the exact same problem!!!! I cannot boot into recovery! It throws me back to the main hboot screen. It freezes when I try to do a recovery and I need to return this stupid phone because it keeps freezing and re-starting on it's own and I've tried flashing the oem rom many times already. I have "s-off" and Sprint will know I've rooted the phone ... please help!!
I just get stuck with the evo screen but like all of you i can not get to recovery... any ideas
Do you guys have working ROMs on your phones and just can't get into recovery? Or can you not boot up at all?
Sent from my HTC EVO 4G with Tapatalk
Looks like your recovery didn't flash. Put this file on the root of your sdcard, boot into the bootloader and select yes to update, the reboot. This installs CWM 3.0+.
I'm in a similar situation after initially using Unrevoked, and I've tried flashing AmonRa and Clockwork from a PC36IMG.zip. Neither has gotten me a recovery screen.
Beyond that I can't seem to get a ROM to boot more than once. I can install ROMs with varying degrees of success, but invariably a reboot leads to the phone simply hanging at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. Flashing a new ROM generally works. Once. But then I'm constantly afraid of my phone rebooting for any reason, and I know it'll mean that I have to wipe the bastard and start all over again.
Any suggestions on the recovery issue? Perhaps fixing that will fix my reboot problems.

Try installing clean, wipe everything. With TB, backup the apps, ect. When you restore, restore only apps and data, not system settings.
Just to be sure I 'wipe everything' properly, which steps are you suggesting? Should I choose Clear Storage from the bootloader menu?
Just for clarification, I've tried to RUU several times and it has not fixed the issue.
I just used a modified HBOOT to allow me to erase my recovery, system, and userdata partitions via fastboot. After that, I flashed AmonRa 2.3 in Bootloader and it worked! I now have a working AmonRa recovery. I'm attempting to flash CM7 now, and I'll let you know if that works.
I can't take credit for thinking of this, I used someone else's guide, but I'll happily post the software and the steps if people are interested.
The fix was apparently temporary. The attempt to flash CM7 led to my Evo hanging at the white screen after rebooting.
The only way I've managed to boot into a ROM is pretty crazy... I flash the 3.70 RUU from a PC36IMG.zip version at bootloader, then I flash clockworkmod, then I flash SprintLover's ROM. If I flash in that sequence, I can get SprintLover's to work, but it will hang at the white evo 4g screen if I reboot. It's insane!
Anyone have any advice? This **** is bananas.

What I have done so far:
(the good):
#1 I used the "clear storage" from hboot and it works.
#2 I re-flashed "RUU_SuperSonic_S_Sprint_WWE_3.70.651.1_Radio_2.15.00.11.19_NV_1.90_release_161482_signed" from my PC via USB and this works too! It gets the phone back to factory settings wiping out everything and booting up normally.
(the bad):
#1 The phone still freezes and turns off sporadicly.
#2 I have lost root BUT the HBOOT screen still shows security is off (S-OFF) so still I cannot return the phone to Sprint!
(the ugly):
#1 From the "HBOOT" screen I choose "FASTBOOT" which takes me to the "FASTBOOT" menu, from there I choose "BOOTLOADER" and it throws me back to the "FASTBOOT" menu creating an endless loop.
#2 From the "HBOOT" menu I choose "RECOVERY" and it re-starts but it than freezes at the white HTC EVO 4G screen. I then have to take the battery out to re-boot the phone. Again another loop!
Any Ideas or any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

http://unrevoked.com/rootwiki/doku.php/public/forever Jump down to Q&A and download the S-ON tool. You need to load up a recovery image, CWM or amon_ra and flash that ^ then re-run the 3.70 RUU and you should be set.
Is there a way to reinstall my android system if for example android crash and wont boot?
Are you using a custom rom?
Are you rooted?
You can always do a nandroid backup (backup of complete system) via clockwork.
I think you mean a factory reset. Hold the volume down key while powering up the phone and you can select that option from the boot loader.
Yes but i mean, if factory reset wont even work. and it only reboots every 30 sec.
Like the system is really ****ed. and the only way is to reinstall android.
this happened because i satt down installing apps and games for hours and then did a restart just to completely refresh the system. and there it hangs in the boot and just keeps restarting and restarting 4 ever.
And i haven't made any backup to restore from.
I do not use any custom rom
And yes i am rooted. i have clockwork mod installed.
i used the lastest unrevoked. but i dont think nand is unlocked.
is the solution maybe to find the right update.zip and use that method to reinstall android via recovery? since i can mount USB mass storage to the PC via recovery?
You can do a complete reset. Go into your recovery. Vol down and power then select recovery. Once booted, do a factory reset and wipe the Dalvik cache. Then you can flash the rom again and start from fresh.
If that doesn't work, you can get a WWE RUU and run it. It will wipe everything so you will need to root again but it will give you back control of your phone. Just to let you know, if you do use an RUU you might need to create a Goldcard.
Sweet!!! Thanks GoogleJelly!!
Did the complete reset with success Even though i recall doing something like this in recovery. Ohwell just did exactly what you said and my Desire works like a dream again
At least now i know what people mean with "playing around with random apps is dangerous"
This is something that i've been searching around the web for. But keep finding this: There is nothing that you can do. Take it back to the store and send it to repair.
Though i would send it to repair if it weren't for GoogleJelly =)
I can't turn on my Desire HD. The phone freezes at the HTC logo, and even when I enter bootloader menu.
I wanted to install Android Revolution on it, but this problem occured.
Can you help me out?
What have you done to the phone so far? Eg rooting, or installing any previous roms. Have you wiped the Dalvik cache? That can cause a long boot time.
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
I wanted to install Android Revolution on my 2.3.5 Desire HD and followed the steps here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1377119
I downloaded Advanced Ace Hack and ran "hack-ace", but first of all, the program said I needed a downgrade, so I chose "yes". Then it done a couple of processes on its own. After that, my phone rebooted and freezed on the HTC logo. I tried to enter bootloader, but it freezes in the menu, too. When I remove the sd card, then enter bootloader menu, I can navigate through the menu, but in the end, even if I select "Recovery" the phone stucks, showing me an red exclamation mark.
I really don't know what to do.
oh, yes, and I also forgot to turn off fast boot before downgrading with that program.
Hi everyone,
I have a friend with a HTC Droid Incredible 2, rooted and running Android 2.3.4. Yesterday the phone just got frozen, he pulled the battery and now the phone wont pass the boot screen. Sometimes it goes into what I believe is the bootloader screen (I attached photos for that).
The thing is, I would recommend him to re-flash the ROM but when he try to go to Recovery, the phone restarts and stays again on the white screen with the HTC logo.
I searched the forum and all suggestions had something to do with the recovery menu but when he select the recovery option (when he is actually able to get the withe background menu, sometimes it goes in sometimes not) it just restarts again and does nothing. Is there a way to fix the problem? I guess there should be a way to solve it, at least through the computer. If there is already a tutorial to do it, much better.

download the pg32img.zip to the phones sdcard. You might need to do this not from the phone, but i'll leave that up to you.
This will update the firmware and radio.
Flash a new recovery via fastboot

I managed to flash the recovery but it does the same things. still cannot go into recovery and flash new rom. any other way to flash a new rom?
By the way, I connected the phone (while off) to the PC and like 15 minutes after it went right into recovery, but when I pressed a volume button it just restarted.
I will recommend flash the PG32IMG first.and then flash a new rom.

I did, via the bootloader, and I flashed a new recovery with fastboot, but it keeps restarting when I select the recovery on the bootloader. If I connect the phone (turned off) to the computer some time later it goes alone into recovery but reboots when I select any option, if I turn on the phone it stays like for half an hour on the first HTC screen, then it finishes booting and restart alone again.
try flashing this ruu

The phone just started working again after a couple of factory resets via fastboot, then I wiped every cache and was able to boot normally again, and I forgot to come back here and say thanks, so.... Thanks!
