[Q] phone is haunted -- home button takes me to a different screen - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

So I've got this epic 4g touch. It's been nothing but trouble since I got it.
Used to be when i hit the home button it would take me to my normal home screen. Lately it takes me to a different screen and i have to hit "back" 100 times to get to my normal home screen. I've tried "home switcher" but it doesn't work.
So initially I thought this was something that my kid did, so I flashed calkulin's 2.8 (first positive experience I've had with E4GT) and that fixed the problem. for a day or so! and now the problem is back!!! did sprint push somethign to my phone? Anybody else seeing this?

I would flash back to stock and start over, when I had my Vibrant I ran into a similar issue once with "ghosts" in the system. See if that works good luck!

I had that on stock rooted el29. what I found out is that It was taking me to my clock dock. it was a blue screen with my alarm and other stuff. I deleted the app clock and just installed an alarm clock. since then no more problems. if that is what you are seeing delete clock.

This is exactly what's happening!! Thanks for the advice, I'll try that.
Any idea why this just springs up all of the sudden?
Thanks again.....

no I have no idea why its happening. it pissed me off and I finally found out what it was. I have no idea what set it to do that. I know it wasnt me.

So, just in case somebody else finds this, the solution above worked perfectly.
I downloaded Titanium Backup (root) and found the "clock 1.0" and first backed it up, then uninstalled it. Problem solved and I did not even have to reprogram the "home" key -- it just worked.
Now if i can only solve the other problem -- around the same time this started happening, another strange thing... whenever i answer a call it starts off on "speaker" mode. I never set this and it just started happening the other day.
Man I miss my HTC...

Ricky's 6.1 with Opera - Home screen keeps popping up

Just flashed to the Ricky's latest Opera ROM, and starting to explore the new system, but I am having an odd problem. The home screen keeps popping up while I am in the middle browsing through menus. For example, I was trying to change my connection settings, and in the middle it just put me back at the home screen. This has happened at all menus, so I can't pinpoint the issue. I browse back with no issue, but it is annoying to be half way through something, and get booted back to the home screen, and have to start all over. Anyone have any insight into what my issue would be? Could it be a process, or program?
Edit:
Ok, my issue was a user error. I didn't know what the Time Out setting did under the Home Screen settings, and had set it to 10s. Should have played around more before post.

White HTC Screen, weird

After rooting with Damagecontrol, anytime I go from an application back to the home screen, a White HTC shows up, then after 3 seconds goes away, a loading box comes up for about 3 seconds, and the home screen appears. Never happened before root. did I do something wrong? Did I change a setting by accident?
I hate this screen, slows everything down. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks in advance
That white HTC screen is just the loading screen for Sense. Sounds like something is killing Sense while it's in the background so it has to reload when you go back to the home screen. Are you using any kind of app killer w/ auto kill turned on?
Nope, I had task manager installed, but I uninstalled it and it is still happening.
I'm bumping this to get a reply. I've searched the boards and having found much of anything besides this thread.
After I used rEVOked to root, I started getting this issue. I thought if I updated to the latest firmware, the problem would go away. I was wrong. Still getting this issue about 3-4 times a day which is pretty annoying.
I usually get this whenever I unlock my phone or going to a different home screen. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unrevoked does not unlock NAND. More than likely, not being fully rooted has something to do with your problem.
Well, I've "cleared storage" and I am still getting the same problem... Any other possible solutions?
You said, "not being fully rooted has something to do with your problem", so should I fully root my EVO and see if that works?
You should see that screen when coming from a different home screen. You know how when you start some PC applications there is a splash screen that comes up for a few seconds while it loads? That is exactly what that white HTC screen is.
The HTC launcher is a bit more resource hungry than some of the others, so it has to load some stuff into memory every time it starts. However it is supposed to stay in memory so you can open a music app/game/browser/etc. and then go back to home without waiting for it to load.
If you are seeing that screen something has killed the HTC Sense process since you were last on the homescreen. If you are not running something like a task killer, it is probably that whatever ROM you are running has settings that kill apps quickly, this is often done for performance or battery life, but yours is too aggressive.
Only other possibility I can think of would be if sense is crashing and has to restart every time.
I'm having this same issue. I'm running a stock EVO, and HTC Sense will reloading sometimes when unlocking/tapping home.
I have a feeling it might be related to WidgetLocker, as the only "task killer" app I have is System Panel which doesn't auto-kill.
Anybody else using WidgetLocker and having this issue?
Bump. Still having this issue regularly.... anybody else have this with or without WidgetLocker?

Phone call abruptly disconnects and screen becomes unresponsive, help!

I've had this issue happen a few times, so I disregarded it, but just a few minutes ago it happened 3 times in a row. Here is what happens:
I'm in the middle of a phone call, and suddenly I hear a beep, and I look at the phone and the call was disconnected (I'm back on the 'Phone' screen). I then realize that the phone becomes unresponsive (the screen doesn't respond, same thing goes for the Home/Menu/Back/Search buttons).
The only thing I can do is press the top 'Off/Lock' button to shut off the screen, then press it again, and everything goes back to normal.
This happened 3 times within 5 minutes.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so, any advice/solutions?
My 30-day purchase window is up in about a week, so I'd like to get this resolved before then to avoid any headaches.
Thanks in advance.
Have you loaded any apps? Modified the phone at all?
I've never seen this type of behaviour before.
Thanks for the reply. No, I haven't rooted it, or loaded custom time or anything. The only thing I've done is just download/install some Apps from the Android Market, that's it.
What do you all think I should do?
*bump*
I think I may have fixed the issue -- I had the Google Voice installed on my phone, and when I uninstalled it, I haven't had the problem since (it's been about 3 days).
Has anyone else experienced any stability issues or glitches using the Google Voice app?
My mom has been having this issue with her stock 2.1 Inc... She says the screen suddenly stops working and all that will work is the power button and volume rocker. Says it usually happens mid call.
PS. she doesn't have google voice. And google voice doesn't cause this issue on my Inc.
Yeah, it just happened to me again, and I don't have Google Voice installed, so that's not the culprit.
Is anyone else having this problem? Please let us know in this thread - I am going to swap the phone out tonight at my local Verizon store.
It happens to me frequently. Before and after I rooted. Let me know what Verizon does about it.
Sent from my Incredible.
I got the phone replaced at the Verizon store a couple of days ago, and I have yet to see the problem. However, ill keep a close eye out and will post another update in the next several days.

Wallpaper Going Nutty

I am having an issue when I hit the home button, my home screen wallpaper shifts back and forth. Almost like it spazzes out for a sec. From then on, if i am on the home screen, I hit the home button it does the same thing. Sometimes shifts the wallpaper to the right or left, so the remaining half is black, or it will zoom in on the wallpaper.
It doesn't seem to matter if i am using a stock wallpaper or custom. I do not have that many apps installed. All of them are apps that I have used before. This is the odd-er part, A hard reset will stop this issue for couple of days. It then starts ups again. Nothing else will even temporarily solve this except for the factory wipe. I can kill all the running apps, uninstall all downloaded apps, sketchy wallpaper still present. The other issue Ive noticed related to this is when I am in the gallery or quickpic menu, the menu itself is very "glitchy"
I am stock and not rooted. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Simple solution.. Root it =0)~. I haven't seen the issue (been rooted since i got phone) My best guess would be to restore (Odin) to factory.
Mine does it as well and I am rooted. I don't know what it is and only happens when it wants and does not do it every time. I noticed it a few days ago when I pressed the home button or unlocking the phone, the wallpaper jumps a little in one direction and then another and stops. Weird, haven't really looked into it as it really isn't a big deal.

Even after I restore to factory, the issue still comes back. Thanks for the feedback.

No worries.. I don't know Tbh.. I've been rooted on the peoples rom since day one lol.
Wallpaper Wizardrii appears to be the culprit. Added apps one by one until the problem came back. Uninstalled wizardrii, problem has stopped. Too bad because I liked the app.

I thought that was the problem as well, never individually tried them. Really liked that app too.

Keyboard and Home screen wallpaper keep changing

OGP was getting laggy so I restored to factory stock. I was surprised though that the phone remained rooted, which I guess is good. I then installed FreeGee and went with CWM, same as it was before the restore.
Now, a few weeks later, I'm having some issues with the keyboard and the Home screen wallpaper. About once or twice a day (on most days), for some unknown reason, my keyboard will revert to the Android keyboard (AOSP) from the LG keyboard that I have it set to. When I "correct" it to the LG keyboard, sometimes the "Extended keyboard" option is checked and other times it's not (I always leave the extended keyboard checked). I also will occasionally get a notification on the pull-down that I need to select a keyboard.
The other issue is that the Home screen wallpaper also seems to change itself back to the default blueberry paper. This only happens on the home screen, and it does not affect the lock screen wallpaper. The wallpaper issue seems to happen at different times than the keyboard issue.
I've also had the phone reboot itself once or twice since the restore...both times while in its holster. Only reason I know this is that I hear the AT&T boot music playing in the background. Upon viewing the phone, it's verified that it is in fact rebooting.
Anyone else having these issues, or know the cause?

Guess nobody else is having this issue.
The spontaneous rebooting has stopped, as has the "extended keyboard" issue.
What remains is the wallpaper and default keyboard changing issues. They both change at the same time now, about once a week.
What I was able to nail down is that this happens after every time titanium backup (free version) does its weekly thing. I have no idea what setting(s) I may have enabled to cause this. Anyone have an idea they can help out with?
I have the exact same problem with my home screen wallpaper changing. Ive had my optimus since about july and the first time it did it was like 2 weeks after i got the device. Kept doing it even tho i would change it back and not do anything with it regarding the screen. Wasnt sure what to make of it but whatever. It didnt do it again until yesterday (24th) and it wouldnt stop. Had to change my screen back like 5 times, and i just woke up a little bit ago and it was different again. The phone was just laying there. Didnt touch it so i have no clue. Ive tried going thru the settings to see if maybe i had checked something or whatever and im pretty sure i didnt. Only thing i can think of is that is just a glitch with the phone. I like the phone too much so thats not enough to get me to wanna get rid of it.

Are you running Titanium Backup?
If all else fails, you can always restore to stock and reinstall your apps and other items. Then maybe you will be able to determine what is causing the issue.
