E stands for edge so it should be slow.
Try forcing it to only use 3G.

Mobistar in Belgium, Edge should be slow? It takes 10 min to open Facebook wtf?
I would just double check your APN settings
- Press Main - Select Settings - Select Wireless and Networks - Select Mobile Networks - Select Access point Names - Delete all APN's in this section. - Press Menu - Press New APN - Enter the follow settings one for General Data . The other for MMS

It's most likely the facebook app giving you the problems, the facebook app has been awful IMO. I hated using it on my Incredible and it's better for me on the Nexus, I hate that is has to access GPS every single time you use it.
You post on xda but you don't know it is the network not the device fault?
I see troll here people...

Hey I just picked up the GN i9250M (bell) and inserted my mobilicity sim but it says it cant connect to the network. Im assuming this is because I need to unlock the phone. Is that correct?
If that is correct to unlock the phone I need the SDK files and grabboot? can someone direct me to a tutorial on this?
What is the exact error message? You don't see any signal bars at all or is it just when you try to use data? The phone should be unlocked already. Most likely it's the data that can't connect, check your APN settings.
the error message was "cannot connect to the network at this time please try again later"
thanks for the quick response and sorry for wasting everyones time...not sure why this happened but once i walked into my house it connected..possibly just out of coverage area. up/down links seem to be working fine and calls can be made so im happy.
actually im having another issue now..dont know if i can ask it in this thread but whenever i try to download something frm the market i get a cannot download due to an error message...any ideas?
thanks again

Wifi or network? There are posts that say you should go to your APN settings and delete the proxy so that it's empty.
that was my first troubleshooting step but oddly enough the issue is only intermittent with wifi...some apps dl some dont, same issue now occur on network
hmm issue seems to be isolated to network connection now...what was the apn thing you mentioned?
can also confirm that connection is active and functional; browser and other apps working fine
In Settings -> click more under wireless & Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names
You should see one or two APNs. click on them and make sure that Proxy is blank or "not set"
Bell runs an HSPDA network and Mobilicity runs an AWS network. You cant use the phone on Mobilicity's network.

I just got the same exact phone.
Go remove the proxy address in the APN settings. and the reason it didn't connect at first because the phone was trying to "learn" how to connect to the Mobilicity. network.
I thought my phone was defective as well until I waited a bit after. It's a beautiful device

May be a long post!
I heard that port you can just leave Blank instead of 8080...speed increase so they say!
1. Set APNs>> posted by android01 (I have heard if you leave port blank you get faster speeds, just heard)
2. Go to setting and Disable Roaming as to not incure extra charges...
3. This is a somewhat of a Backdoor fix i found that worked with Samsung Vibrant from T-mobile... DISCLAIMER: USE AT OWN RISK! ONLY MODIFY THE SETTINGS LISTED.
IF the setting is not as listed, Read the setting heading click the matching section heading, to find the location of this setting scan and read all of the setting heading/titles.
If is works without a hitch than great....Let me know.
Again these directions i found on Howard Forumns and worked with a T-Mobile Galaxy S Vibrant
I had copied this into a Word document for my Mum as the phone was going to her:

It works!!! It totally works!!!! I love it! Thank you so much guys!!!! Now I don't have to restart my phone EVERY morning as soon as I pull out of the underground garage in my car!!!
Thank you, Thank you, THANK YOU!!!!!!
Dial: *#*#197328640#*#*
Click [1] debug screen
Click [8] phone control
Click [7] network control
Click [2] band selection
This is where you make a change, default setting is [1] automatic, which means it chooses automatically between gsm/cdma (Edge vs 3g). So we are going to change this and set it to wcdma band which is 3g.
Click [2] wcdma band
Click [1] wcdma all []
Now it should display “select wcdma all bands[*]"
Now on the bottom of your phone, click the menu key, it’s the one next to the home key, now click back, menu again one more time, back one more time, this is just to confirm it set to number 2 wcdma band.
Now click menu key one last time, click end.. and you are done. Now to double verify that the phone is locked into 3g, dial in: *#*#4636#*#*
Then click phone information Then scroll down to “set preferred network type” It should now have listed “wcdma only.” PS, if you tried to do a shortcut, and just set wcdma this way first without doing the lock above, it would just go back to gsm/cdma auto once you exit the screen.
Your phone should now be locked into 3g.
__________
Also what i do is Only click the 1700 and 2100 frequencies.Chose by hitting the menu button>>back and i forgot the option. it is "to add another band?" and so click either one frequency first, then menu>back>"add another band"!
This keeps me on 3G directly and always!!! DONT forget to turn Roaming off as to not incure unwanted charges.
Hope this helps and let it be known if it works for you nexus guys. or am i full of it and these are samsung commands....DOH! if they are.
the nexus from bell does not have phone lock..
i can use my fido sim in the phone..my nexus is from bell as well
Yep I have it with Mobilicity and it is an absolutely great phone granted some things are slower than they would be on 1 of the big 3 but it is more than adequate

For those with a Bell Canada LG Optimus LTE, are you guys able to turn off/disable LTE on your phone through a setting or *#*#4636#*#*?
I'm trying to figure out a way to turn off LTE on the AT&T Nitro HD, which has the Network Mode setting blocked/removed.
Create a new APN and use it when you want to "switch off" lte:
Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> Menu (Add new APN)
Name: HSPA+ (can name it whatever you want)
APN: phone
Proxy: leave blank
Port: leave blank
Username: leave blank
Password: leave blank
Server: leave blank
Mmsc: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net
Mms proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net
Mms port: 80
Mcc: 310
Mnc: 410
Authentication type: none
APN type: default,mms,supl,hipri (no spaces)
Save.
It should save battery.
Please let me know if it works.
The feature that you speak of is not on our phones as it is locked out. I can't change those settings.

No, I wasn't asking about the APN. I'm aware of that trick.
I wanted to see if we can actually set our phones to WCDMA only or something like that. In most if not all previous Android phones I've owned, you can force the phone to 2G only, 3G preferred, 3G only, and so on using the *#*#4636#*#* menu. But in our case, AT&T/LG deliberately left out this option in the phone.

Oh I see. Man I would LOVE to have that feature.
Um I had a bell one and I remember just going into the settings there was a choice of WCDMA or WCDMA+LTE and I just picked WCDMA and I think it turned LTE off.
I get an FC in com.android.phone when I try to do that, so nope, not working.

Yes, with Bell Canada, Settings -> Wireless and Networks -> Mobile Networks -> Network Mode -> WCDMA only
If I choose "GSM/WCDMA Auto" it does not stick but reverts to "GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto". But "WCDMA only" stays and everything works.
Now I will wait to see if the battery lasts longer. But as it was it lasts over 2 days of standby/light use (we don't have LTE serviceout here). As soon as I start using the display though the battery goes down quite fast - like in about 3 hours or less of continuous use.

If you want to stay just on 4g and eliminate the phone going edge completely, you can dial *#*#4636#*#* or download an app called "phone info", select Device Information", then halfway down there's a dropdown (currently on GSM auto). Select WCDMA only.
There's also a new radio if you don't already have it that is supposed to be better at holding on to 4g longer

i thought i was the only one. talked to tmobile and got a replacement. it still does it on occasion. One thing i did was to change the APN of the phone to a known T-Mobile alternate. it seems to have fixed the issue. if you change your APN to these settings, no more drops, and no more high ping issues.

Hello,
I'm having an issue with the rom I have (AOKP Ktoonsez) when I turn on data I get H+ at the top. How do I get LTE? I went into that menu by putting in *#*#4636#*#* in the dial pad and putting it into GSM/LTE, but I still get H+. I'm with Virgin Mobile Canada. Here's my APN info:
Name: Bell
APN: pda.bell.ca

Anything missing? This rom does have LTE and I went into the FAQ page, the dial pad method was the only way we could turn LTE on. Thanks.

Make sure you have LTE/HSPA enabled in Settings>Wireless and Networks (More...)>MobileNetwork>Network Mode. Sometimes when I flash a new rom it changes. I have it HSPA only because saves battery.

I'm a Virgin Mobile Canada customer as well. I've set my preferred network type to LTE/GSM auto (PRL) by accessing the "Testing" menu (dial *#*#4636#*#*) and have selected LTE/GSM/WCDMA by going into my mobile network settings. The only two modes I can select from are LTE/GSM/WCDMA and GSM/WCDMA preferred
I've noticed the following:
-most of the time I'm on either the HSPA or HSPA+ network
-there are times at which my notification bar shows 4G (which I assume is LTE) but it definitely isn't as frequent as when my phone was unrooted and on stock
-this one is weird: occasionally I lose total mobile and data connection for about a few seconds and a "warning" icon shows up in the top left corner of the notification bar. When I expand notifications it says that the connection to the VIRGIN mobile network has been lost..or something along those lines. I'm usually able to reconnect automatically within a few seconds but this is definitely a weird one since I've noticed it only after flashing Task&Ktoonsez AOKP. Anyone encounter anything similar to this?

Hmm maybe this is just Virgin Mobile problem? Thing is the ROM I was on before, (Team Insomnia JB Touchwiz) it showed 4g when I turned on the mobile data but I was getting no where near LTE speeds. I also tried switching to LTE mode and clicking the LTE APN and reboot, but all it does is go back to WCDMA Preferred mode. I got a SIM replacement from Virgin Mobile but still no luck after this.
EDIT: I think I got it, if you recently were on a Virgin Mobile Supertab or changed from an older phone that didn't have LTE, make sure that Virgin Mobile systems know that you own a Galaxy S3. I went into my Virgin Mobile "My Account' and it showed my phones it only listed the HTC Legend I had few months ago, but not the S3 itself, and beside it saying this device runs on a HSPA+ network. I'm getting this fixed on Monday so I'll see what happens then. If somebody can do it sooner though if they have the same issue, that would be great too.
For those of you using GN2 T-Mobile on Straight Talk AT&T, can you share your APN settings?
I tried a lot of settings out there but my download is very very low 7-8kbps
The upload around 1.5-2Mbps, low but OK
On T-Mobile, I get decent downloads/uploads (5-6.6Mgps/1.5-2Mbps) but the voice is very crappy and a lot of drop calls.
Simple Mobile similar to T-Mobile
Now on my 3rd test I cannot get a good data on Straight Talk (AT&T). The voice calls are great and the data very slow.
I need apn settings to get at least 5Mbps

For those of you using GN2 T-Mobile on Straight Talk AT&T, can you share your APN settings?

Setting the apns described on the page did not make a difference.
In fact on speedtest I got 3kbps download vs 1.2Mbps upload
Thanks for the info.
I will use Straight Talk for few days before deciding if I can handle the slow speed.
I get what I pay for.

I will ask my son, what speed he is getting on his phone with AT&T.
The funny thing is I can watch Hulu or Netfix with no problem on ST.
straight talk APN settings
I have a LG Nexus 4 but I don't think it really matters much which phone you have when you put in the APN settings.
My phone did not work until I called straight talk customer service. They did something that involved "provisioning" my account and also asked me to use the following settings:
name: straight talk
APN: att.mvno
proxy: (leave blank)
port: 80
MMSC: http colon slash slash mmsc.cingular.com (replace the words colon slash slash with the actual characters :// )
MMS proxy: mms2.tracfone.com
MMS port:80
Note: if you want the speedtest.net app to work, you need the 'proxy' field above to be blank. Straight talk recommends using proxy.mvno.tracfone.com in the proxy field, which works OK but blocks speedtest.net
