[Q] Multiboot on ARC - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to do the multiboot on our ARC??? For example, we use our favorite ROM as our main ROM, and then we can boot another ROM from SDCard (in testing purpose) so that we can switch between ROMs easily.
It is possible to do the multiboot on SE X8 and X10mini but I don't know why there isn't any threat about this on ARC Forum.
Here is the link for x8: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1151293
Why is a small phone like X8 and x10 can, but not our ARC?
I really wish it is possible..

I think the way of managing partitions it's not good to enable multi boot...

If the roms work on the same kernel then you can backup/restore with cwm. cm7 has a different kernel from miui, or stock, due to various module differences.

nice to see that to,but what is the point of having many rom inside devices..

That's because, all ROMs have used the same kernel (stock kernel).
Now, that there are also custom kernels, it didn't even make sense anymore.

Could you please tell me why?
To show your friends, I can boot in this ROM, then I reboot and hey it's another?

[Q] Pure google ICS on ARC s available ?

Hey guys,
advance i get started with the topic i must say im not english and im very new in this forum, so please forgive me little mistakes like using the wrong thread or something like this
so now to topic.
I own the Sony Ericsson Arc S, its all ready rooted and modded.
since the Google I/O 2012 a few days ago, im realy in love with the pure android feeling with out manufacture specific launcher like Xperia home, htc sence or so. :victory:I'd like to have the pure google nexus experience right on my arc s.
I don't want jelly bean pls don't missunderstand, im searching for ICS.
Is there any way to get the pure nexus ICS feeling on my arc s ?
i searched allready in here, but the only thing i found was the other direction to get xperia on nexus ( WTH ?! who wants? xD )
thanks for your help and feedback :good:
all you have to do is install CM9 on your arc s....it is based on AOSP..so it will look same like google nexus OS
oh really ? yeah man thanks, so easy ... i I didn't expect
thanks man :good::victory:
but one little question. is it also including all apps like contacts telephone and so on ? must i used a specific Arc s CM9 ? I must know whether i must search for cm9 or for arc s cm9
no probs...happy to help
i'd find this link -> download.cyanogenmod.com/?device=anzu&type=stable
but i gues its the worng ?! i own the LT18 but there it is named LT15 so the "old" arc, is it familiar ( because of cpu frequency and the 3D camera ) ?
GO here dude
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1356685
Old one is Arc and it has less cpu frequency..
thanks for that.
oh man, it looks extremly hard to do. Kernel, Baseband, rom ahhh omg. if i do it right i got the jackpot and make a big party xDD
I am searching nearly one hour for an tutorial to get cm9 on xperia, dont finding any at all? is it so unpopular on arc ? i never done that before i dont know WAHT i must install and HOW :/ whats with the baseband, the kernel and the rom how can i put it rightly on my phone? i cant find anything, not in google and not here

No dude.. Process is same for all custom roms.. Only files r different..
First flash kernel
Then flash baseband
Then flash the rom through recovery
Then flash Google Apps.
It might sound complicated but if u do these step by step I am sure u will see its easy. So now first search for how to flash kernel. M out now or else I could've sent u links.

okay if its same for every phone i would found it much faster sry for that :/

another thing. what is the " cm9.0 GAPPS ADDON " are this the google apps you meant ?
GAPPS is the Google apps like gmail, the play store etc.
It is essential for you to flash it.

Hi,may I suggest JJ hybrid rom 3.1 which is basically still sony stock rom but with AOSP experience..in other words you will get pure google experience and at the same time everything works includng bravia engine and xloud, trust me..arc's speaker is way too quiet without xloud...it is also the fastest and stable rom for me..battery life is great compared to cm9..and for the kernel try arcknight 3.3 stock for performance n battery life..that's all
resoftes applications
its nice from you get me this tip but the status of flashing new rom is by putting the usb cable in to my arc, more i can't do for now, i never done that before. i only read words like fastboot and so but i dont find any tut that tells my what it is.
but i think i will get the CM9. and xloud aren't used by me anyway so i dont need.
And the bravia engine don't make a big difference i guess.
but back to my problem, i cant find the right kernel for my arc because i don't know for what what I'm looking for. is the kernel including in the Rom zip !? I'm totally confused and perplexed
if i got these, then i can searching a tutorial how to flash it, but for now i got nothing to flash, so a tut makes no sense for now i must have the files first.

i dont get it. how can i install the kernel first, if the kernel is same file as the rom ?
if i go to CWM and install form zip and select the rom with the kernel i cant choose kernel i must choose the hole zip. i dont understand it. how can i separate between kernel and rom if its the same file?
i searched in google and youtube: " flash android kernel " but i don't find any good tutorial, only a lot of tuts that left out mayor facts and steps or other wise i dont find any noob tutotials.
my nerves are ending in a nuclear meltdown. i got any facts and files i must have but they are swimming around like a letter soup
im not english or american that makes the hole thing for me double hard, particularly i dont understand video tut's because of the extrem bad voice quality and any kind of american slang or migrated american slang. so youtube tutorials complete out of use for me and google dont like me too seem so.
while im trying to unlock my bootloader, anything worked fine, but for now it doesnt boot anymore. pls guy can any body help me
I did it exactly with this tutorial! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1676135

Sony Xperia SL ROMS?

Are there any Sony Xperia SL roms? Because all the ROMS available on XDA are for the Xperia S. Would Xperia S ROMS work on the Xperia SL? If so which problems would i face?
i have one, from my SL buy in Philippin, but it's 6.1.A.2.45.
Another newest firmware is 6.1.A.2.50 link below

I believe an SL is the same just the processor is turned up to 1.7 so S roms should work as far as I've read. (no guarantee tho)
Sent from my Jellybean Xperia S
I just recently flashed my SL with a FXP CM10 rom, by following all the steps for S, and so far I have no problems. Except I made a big mistake by not backing up my rom first (silly me). If you want to flash any Xperia S roms, I suggest you backup the stock rom first and also the build.prop. Cause once you flash to S roms, the device will be recognized as Xperia S and having a backed up build.prop would come in handy as reference. Another downside is that the CPU will be underclocked to 1.5GHz, but can be easily changed to 1.674MHz through an app or if your rom can change the CPU settings.
Just to warn you, there aren't a lot of options out there if you want to go back to stock since most are for Xperia S.
Nova kernel will clock it back to 1.7 and you can edit the build.prop for device id

Questions about installing
Hi everybody,
I am planning to replace the stock rom on my sister's xperia sl with a Cm10 rom.
Before I would do something, I would like to ask some questions.
How can I make a backup of the current kernel? I(Just in case I would like to go back to stock rom)
Is it true if I flash the boot.img file with the fastboot, I will get another kernel installed together with clockworkmod recovery?
If I don't make a backup of the current kernel, just do a backup with cwm, is it possible to simply restore my cwm backup in the future if necessary?
Can I download a stock kernel from anywhere If making a backup of it is not possible?
I have just a little experience with cwm, I did a few months ago a custom rom installation on zte blade, but there everything was easy, because I could install it with the rom manager application.
I would be very grateful if you could send me a link in email or private message to the latest cm and gapps build for xperia s.
I am visually impaired, so I use a screenreader software to browse webpages. With this program, navigating through the cm page is difficult for me, because there aren't exact headings, and tables which I could use to understand the structure of the items on that website. I met the same situation at another page, where I donwloaded the wrong file because of the lack of accessible structure. At that time I didn't have problem, but I would like to prevent dowloading an incompatible rom for my xperia.
Where do I have to put the build.prop file linked here in this topic? Do I have to place it in the zip file of the rom?
Thank you for your help in advance.
Sorry for my beginner questions and not perfect English.
Cheers,
Istvan

Itcan be done but with various patches in ramdisk (but not everything woring 100%). I had a kernel on my PLAY for GB ICS and JB but compared to say a GB specific kernel or ICS specific kernel performance decreased.
So to anwser the OP's question. Yes its possible but using a specific kernel for that specific android is much better.

I could but WiFi wont work and not sure about anything else. I will not attempt to do anything like this without a mogami device without owning one. I was meant to be getting one soon but donator moved to a new device and unfortunately sold his old device to family member instead
Hard to hear those words but I'm happy with your kernels... Without owning mogami device you did tremendous job for us .. hands off

IT might work, but i suggest you dont do this as it may brick your XAS, but i am unsure
Im unsure about that but you can Ask any kernel dev
Technical Stuff
Well if the Rom Doesnt work then the kernel for your Acro S has to be edited for it to work)
how it boots
Power > Kernel Loads > kernel boots the boot path > ROM Loads
Or something like that (im unsure you will have to Ask Doomlord or ForzaFerrariLeo

it should work fine because hardware-wise XAS and XS are the same except for the external card
if you wanna learn more ask @deedwar, he first started out porting roms from XS to XAS but now he is building from source.he might have some advice for you

Dual Boot Gingerbread AND Icecream on Xperia Arc S. possible?

is it possible to do this on the Xperia Arc S?
I mean stock roms of sony of course, no need for custom roms.
is this done by booting from the SD card?
Thanks for the support!
It's not possible to do so. Booting can be done from the SD Card but both firmwares use different kernels, so unless you can make GB run on an ICS kernel it will be nigh impossible to do it, not to mention the time needed to make it happen.

well it needs some work to make that thing possible on lupus gb/ics
you need to make a muflti boot kernel using cosmicdan source and some thing from here and there and using lupus gb/ics as your zimage
im not familiar with kernel things but im sure that it's easier than before because of turbo kernel (the hard thing is finished before)
also you can port turbo kernel to arc
that is alittle easier because comsicdan has done some of the optimizations for arc before
but in turbo kernel gb support in not finished but you can test your apps with it atleast
