Hey xda members, 2 days ago i got my Otterbox Commuter case, and today i recieved my XO Skins screen protector.
This is my first time writing a review, so please bare with me lol
So I've been using the otterbox case for a few days now and i must say I LOVE IT!
the fit is very nice, looks great, and feels awesome. I have read that some people find it to be too slippery, but for me its great. I likke how it has the flaps for the charger port and headphones jack, helps keep out dust and such. It sits very nicely in the hand, i found the phone without any case to be a little slim and i felt like it was going to slip out everytime I held it. The one concern I have with this case is the power button, and those that have this case please let me know if it's the same with yours, i can't feel the button actually push in, it feels more like I just touch it and the screen comes on or off. Not sure if I like it or not but i am getting used to it now. The volume buttons on the other hand feel fine. At first i was worried that the case would make the phone look and feel bulky, as i had one for my X2, but i was surprised this doesn't add too much bulk. The phone, to me at least, feels perfect in my hand. Also this case covers up the the prongs below the power button, i don't mind or care about it but some of you might so keep that in mind. Also i do have the extanded battery 2100mAh too and did try it with this case and it's not a nice fit. There are some gaps on the sides and the buttons seem like they are pressed in at times so i would not recommend this case with the extended battery.
And just a few hours ago I recieved my XO Skins screen protector in the mail and put it on right away. My previous screen protector I had just before i put this one on was the verizon one, and it sucked. Cut outs were bad and too large for the toop speaker and there was about a mm of space on the edges of the screen, which i didn't like. The XO on the other hand is fantastic. The screen protector is almost invisible unless you look at the cutout for the front cam and light sensor. It goes right to the very edge of the screen which i like. The quality is also fantastic. The material feels somewhat like that of the ZAGG but no orange peel what so ever, which i also like. I did however order the ZAGG as well for the full body just to be safe lol.
Overall I recommend this case with this screen protector to anyone, both are a great combination. The case i got on ebay for 29.50 and free shipping and the screen protector i got from the XO website, and somewhere on here someone posted some discount coupons which i wish i would have seen before i bought mine but no biggy it was only 13.xx i believe plus 2.99 shipping
I also have on the way and SGP Neo Hybrid case which i will post a review once i get it. Got the Reventon Yellow.

^The cutouts are really nice and precise unlike the verizon one i had
Also, you can't really tell here but the XO skins doesn't affect the quality of the screen what so ever. took that pic on the Nexus actually hood of my car very nice pics even though some people complain.
If someone would like to know something more or see more pics let me know.
Thanks
Looks great! Is that the case fit or regular XO Skin?

its the regular fit. i dont like the case fit because it doesnt go all the way to the edges of the screen
Looks like a lot of lint / dust is attracted to the case.

actually not really, i just used a microfiber towel and it left that behind. im picky about that stuff too and the case doesnt actually attract that much if any.
Question about the XO skin (not directed towards the topic creator but I just figured that since this thread is somewhat related to it I could ask it here), how does the lifetime replacement warranty work? Is it like, you order it and get it but you apply it wrong somehow and it gets ruined they will send you back a new perfect one for you to apply?

I sent them a email. They sent me a link to order a replacement with a rma #. You have to pay $3 and some change for shipping. They tell you too send back the original skin, but for me they sent the replacement upon payment for the shipping. Note that they don't send you any more solution so if you don't have any left you can order more from the site for $3. Not sure if the adding of the solution will increase the shipping costs since I didn't order it. Basically they sent the skins in a regular envelope for regular first class postage of $.44. So they really don't lose anything because they make about $3 on the postage.

That's good to hear. The CM Tough Case's silicon always attracted lint/dust, it appears this one seems better to avoid it.
Is the power button easy to depress with the commuter? My isn't clicky like the volume buttons. I do have a replacement coming soon.
It sucks no one sells the commuter locally. Where did you get it?

most likely lol.. ive seen them price drop on Amazon lately... bought myself the Commuter last night for ~$29 with free shipping.
Had a Case-Mate Tough Case before but was tired of the silicon attracting dust plus Case-Mate refunded me the money I paid for the case so it's like I got it for free because of the revision. Decided not to go with Case-Mate again and give this case a try as I bought a extended battery and that wouldn't fit with Case-mate.

Cheapest: $36 (says $32 but you have to pay shipping)
bah looks like I paid $1 over oh well haha
I use the spray for a cleaner now. you can just refill the bottle with water. Add a drop of dish soap if you want. That's all it is. Someone sprayed some in their eye and they said that on their twitter account http://twitter.com/xoskins
That Otter box and xo combo looks great. I have been waiting to get the Otterbox for it, just waiting for it local. I'll probably just order online for it now.

Thanks.
Thanks for the review! I think I'm gonna pop off my Defender SP and install one of those XO skins.
Why do they sell the case for cheaper on Amazon rather than their own site?

That's a good price too. I was just putting it out there that the listing I posted was a buy it now or best offer, and I offered him$ 35,and he accepted it immediately. So I got it for 35,then at paypal checkout, I entered promo code CADVANCE10,and it took $10 off, so I got the case for $25 with free shipping! Give it a shot, bet you get the same deal!
man what a bad time for it to FINALLY come out.
I wanted to get it so I'd have my phone in a case when I went to Air Force basic training (even though I won't be able to use my phone, I still like it protected) and I leave next week. lol overnight shipping I guess.

have you had any issues with the flaking of the rubber? mine is flaking like crazy! and its really hard to hit the buttons thru the silicone.
I gotta say my overall experience with Otterbox hasn't been great. Won't even get into the delays, but when my order finally shipped i received no email conformation. The website said order shipped but no tracking info. I work and my wife is in and out running errands or taking care of our kid, so knowing when it would arrive via FedEx would have been nice.
As for the case itself, i got the Defender series. Do to me being a UPS man i tend to beat the hell out of my phone. I didn't really care about my Dare, but my Droid X is another story. I love this case. It protects everything while still leaving everything accessible and usable, the holster on the other hand i can't stand. It's freakin HUGE. I would have liked some kind of spring action when removing the phone from the holster, but there isn't. It takes some getting use to and one hand removal or insert is very difficult. I usually leave the phone in my truck or shirt pocket and avoid the holster all together.
So for anyone who hasn't purchased a defender case yet here's my 2 cents.

There is no need to buy direct from Otterbox. I got a brand new genuine Otterbox Commuter series for $28 shipped from reputable ebay seller (klassicase). Came in official unopened box, arrived in 3 days, and warranty fully honored. (LINK)
I love it, except for the side port cover (hdmi/usb). It it like there is too much rubber, so it sticks out a bit. The top cover for the headphone jack is spot on. Other than that, it is a great case, easy to hold and not too thick. The screen protector is good too, but I may get a Zagg InvisiShield to put under the otterbox just because I am obsessive. (No 'flaking issues' as reported above, mine is solid)
http://www.mobilecityonline.com/wir...&refine=y&Category=Cases&Manufacture=OtterBox
43 dollars tax and shipping included.
had a little scuff on the screen cover (defender has built in screen cover) that you had to hold to the sunlight to see, looks perfect on phone.
sweet case.
I got a brand new Defender case on ebay for $35 and free shipping (find one with best offer and offer that and it's instantly accepted). It's the best case I've ever owned for any phone. I don't find any trouble using the holster. You can put the phone in the holster any way you like (face in, face out, upside down, etc). Little bulky, but I like the heft and it's worth the protection to me.

I have been usings the bodyglove case for about 3 months and it worked great but it was only temporary as I was waiting for the otter box cases to roll out. I got a hands on with the defender case and the commuter case, this is my overall opinion on both.
The defender case is awesome and very heavy duty, comes with a great belt clip "metal hindges" and the built in screen protector is a plus. The cons to this is if the screen protector gets damaged you will have to mail the entier case to otter for a replacement leaving you caseless for a while, or doing surgery on your case and literally cutting the screen protector out of the equation and going with an alt. Also the defender is larger and thicker than the body glove case making it impossible to easily remove or put in your pocket, especially with the silicone cover.
The commuter case on the other hand is much thinner, even thinner than the bodyglove case which makes removing other putting in your pocket is a breezee, it is also much more stylish since the poly case is on the outside, the cons to this case is the poly cover will start to scratch over time, it is also much slicker than the bodyglove or defender case so it will slide around on smooth surfaces.
Overall in terms of protection id say they both offer roughly the same amount with the defender being a bit better due to thicker silicone. To me it came down to not wanting a belt clip and not having too much bulk in my pocket so the commuter was my no.1 choice and I have no regrets.
I was browsing around the AT&T web store, and saw these cases available. I'm happy to see the Incipio feather case make the list. While I typically don't put cases on my phones, I'm a big fan of the feather case. It's so low-profile that it almost feels naked (although, I'm not sure if the phone would still fit in the docks).

I agree. But the blue actually looks pretty good with the stock homescreen.
Incipio makes great cases. When i had my iPhone, that is the only case i'd buy. When my wife got an iPhone, that is the case i got her. They fit well, they arent overly bulky, and they are strong.
The only reason i havent ordered one yet is because i also got the dock and i dont think that the phoen will sit in the dock with the case on. That is a deal breaker for me.
I bought the speck but would trade for a feather if anyone is interested.
Personally the only case I'm interested in is a TPU case...And I'm not going to get one until there's a non-patterned one available. Who ever thought it was a good idea to have argyle print on a phone case?
Has anyone been able to find screen protectors anywhere yet? There is one built into the otterbox defender case i bought from att for my atrix when i get it - but i havent been able to find any screen protectors like i have for my captivate....

I ordered the two pack of anti glare screen protectors from att.com along with the body glove case.
The Speck cases look nice but they scratch easily, the feather cases tend to get worn from being rubbed on in your pocket and from sliding on tables, and the body glove always worked well on my Captivate.
Anyone have a link to these? I'd really like to buy one, I just cant seem to find them on any of the manufacturers websites nor AT&T online....
Try phantomskinz. Best screen protector I've ever had. 2 for 9.99 and feels like glass. I dont know if they are out yet tho.

about $30? I don't have the receipt in front of me at the momemnt so I don't know exactly... It is very very nice though. Glossy and soft on the inside and very thing... just no covering for the ports. but then again I have never had a case cover the ports so its all good. I plan on checking out the commuter and maybe returning the speck.

Oooh, yea the commuter covers the ports (which I always found annoying btw) I was leaning more towards the candyshell because it looks so...... beautiful. Does it make the phone substantially fatter though? Also, does AT&T charge a re-stocking fee for accessories?

I don't know about the restocking fee.. I'm going to guess no, because the guy that helped me out seemed like an informed, nice dude. And when I asked him about the return policy he didn't mention restocking.
I actually don't have my phone yet - I didn't pre order so I am going to be picking it up tomorrow morning. I have opened up the speck though and checked it out... the size of the case is not big at all. I think it is comparable or even slightly thinner than the otterbox commuter, if that helps you at all. It is in fact a really nice, well designed case. The black plastic is glossy, which could be a good thing (probably easy to slip in and out of pocket) or it could be a bad thing (aquires light scratches from being placed on hard surfaces). I will have to see how it holds up for a few days (I take great care of my things) but I might just end up keeping it.

Thanks . I've owned all kinds of cases from pretty much all the major manufacturers (otterbox, speck, case-mate, incipio, boxwave) for different phones and have never gotten the chance to try out a Candyshell before so, thats why I was leaning towards it. That was very informative and helpful.

yeah, I don't think you can go wrong with the candyshell. It is pretty nice all around. Especially if you don't care to have the ports covered, then this is just as good or better than the otterbox for you.
I just wanted to update... The Speck case IS NOT my idea of a case. It is too thick, and adds too much bulk to an otherwise slim phone without providing the best coverage. The rubber is annoying...Would NOT purchase this case. I am returning in the morning. I want to stick to the otterbox commuter.
The Incipio Feather does, in fact, come in black. I just bought one this morning when I picked up my Atrix at RadioShack.

Background
I buy exensive devices, but I never want to buy expensive or large cases for my devices. I personally believe cases wreck the look and feel of a device, so if I am going to get one, I go minimalistic as possible. This is where the TPU case comes in.
TPU cases are nice because they fit tightly around the device and do not add much thickness or weight. They are better than your typical rubber, plastic, or silicone because they do not attract dust and hair and whatnot, while also being much studier.
The main thing I wanted to do was find the cheapest case I could and this one came out to $10, which is much better than paying $80 for a Zenus Prestige, or a Melko for over $100. This case was $10 and had free expedited shipping from a US seller and got here in 2 days.
Now About the Case
It comes in different colors, like white, smoke, and black. I chose the smoke so you could still see through the back a little bit. When it arrived it was in a padded envelope which was fine. It fits my Tab 10.1 quite well with all of the cutouts for buttons, headphone jack, speakers, mic, and 30 pin directly centered over where they should be. The only issue I have is that it is a tiny bit loose on the long sides, probably due to the numerous cutouts. Even with that issue it seems well made and adds some protection against dings, scratches, and drops and it doesnt attract dirt and things like that when you set it down. For $10 you really can't go wrong.
This case is for people that want to keep the same overall shape of the device, but have a little protection. This and a screen protector would keep the device protected well. It is for people that do not want to deal with the flaps and folds from the stand cases and it is also for people that are cheap like me.

Thank you, this case is exactly what I want. I was unsure what it would look like, but thanks to your pics I can see that it looks great. I'm buying one now.
I went ahead and ordered the tpu case. I hope it's much better than the **** gel case I ordered a couple weeks ago. That Chinese black gel case on ebay is low quality and poor fitment.
I use the same case for my tab I got a good deal on ebay with some high quality screen protectors included.
I also use a cheap neoprene case I bought from amazon
http://www.amazon.co.uk/SAMSUNG-P71...2C/ref=sr_1_11?ie=UTF8&qid=1310663987&sr=8-11
This is useful when transporting the Tab in the boot of my car and doubles as a stand if I roll it up and prop the Tab up on it.
TPU is definately the material of choice for this kind of case and the grip pattern at each end of the case make it easier to hold the Tab.
R
Love this case. The tab feels better holding. More grip for sure.
Just got mine today from ebay, i really love this. It feel so much better than having a naked tablet i just will never let my tab touch the ground lol
I got a black version from eBay and it arrived yesterday. Very nice because it's not see-thru, it's totally black and makes the Tab very stealthy... Build quality is good considering the price of $12 with free shipping.

I do like this case and think I will go for this in the time being until incipio comes out with there silicyrilic case next month or so. How does the weight feel to it? Does it seem durable if it was dropped or banged around? I would like to be able to bring it anywhere outdoors and keep it protected fairly well.

It doesn't add too much weight and it does seem to be quite durable. I haven't really dropped my Tab yet though and I plan on not doing it.

There should be a link on the first page to an ebay auction. They all look the same just different colors. If you find the link go to his store and look at the other colors or you could just search TPU case for samsung galaxy tab 10.1.

I wanted to share these with everyone. This is the TPU Case I have. Its a little bit different design as far as the textured grip goes. The non-textured part is also clear instead of a matte finish like the case the OP has.
http://www.pyroskins.com/xda-share/p7510/TPU/
Sorry for the link, I didn't want to take the time to size all these.
Here is my same case next to the OP's case
Sorry for the poor quality phone pictures.
there you go, very good fit, not loose at all
I've never heard of this brand before but I heard lots of good reviews on TPU cases and need something to put my GS3 in when I get it. Was looking to stay away from black but when I seen this picture not only did it convince me to go ahead and get it, but i'm gonna end up getting a black Otterbox as well.

Anyone had any experience with this brands TPU cases before? I will update this thread with my review once I get it installed.
**Update 6.29.12**
I picked up my phone from BB yesterday and took this case with me to protect my phone until my Incipio Sylicrilic Dual Pro arrived...which was at home waiting for me along with my Tagsfordroid NFC tags. The case had a nice feel to it, at least on the shiny parts where it had more grip...the matte area was pretty slick/smooth/slippery. It was my first experience with a TPU case and while it added very little bulk, much like a wetsuit, it was a little difficult to stretch onto the phone. I thought I was going to damage the phone trying to get it on. But after getting it on I liked it for it's intended use, preventing cosmetic damage to the backside of the case and allowing me to set the phone face down without feat of damaging the screen. But my big complaint is that the buttons are very hard to press and you can't even tell when you've done so as you have no audible or tactile feedback upon the press. Because of this, the TPU came off as soon as I got home and noticed my SDP had arrived. I do not recommend this case unless it's just going to be used similarly to the situation I used it for.
generic cases you can get them for a buck on ebay with shipping. have used them on a lg o2x, sgs2, HOX and later today a sgs3. they usually fit really good. had no issues with them.
providing a link to the first case i found on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-5-Colors-...ain_0&var=&hash=item4166b8b83e#ht_4044wt_1018
I've ordered one for every phone I've had this past year they are super thin and have a good grip on the sides
But the white ones get super dirty really fast

I bought one on eBay for 4.59 shipped. I bought clear, but other colors are on ebay as well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/290721298653 Haven't received it yet.. Here is a seller from Ireland with a variety of colors. I might just pick up a blue one.. http://www.ebay.com/itm/FOR-SAMSUNG-GALAXY-S3-I9300-HARD-GEL-CASE-COVER-FREE-SCREEN-PROTECTOR-/290720955624?pt=UK_MobilePhones_MobilePhonesCasesPouches&hash=item43b051bce8
I have the white version on the white galaxy s3 and it looks really good.
Now obviously there are other cases that look better, but none for a couple of euro/dollars/pounds or what have you.

How does it feel in your hand? Does it add alot of bulk? What's the fitment like? Does it attract dust/lint? Does it add any grip? Have you dropped it at all, if so, did it fare well?
via Atrix 2/VictoryROM/XDA app
I love these types of cases. I have had one for every phone I have had over the past year and a half(and I've had a bunch) Case doesnt add too much bulk at all and it feels great in the hand. The side grips are very nice
Don't these fall off easily?

I just bought a couple of TPU case for my S3 as they are my favorite type of case. I have the ones on eBay that have a slightly textured X pattern on the back and a couple identical to the flexishield case on mobilefun. I've found the ones on eBay to be to loose and move around a bit when I'm adjusting the volume or locking/unlocking my phone ect and both of them have a problem with reflecting the color of the case back into the camera lens when using the flash. It makes for some pretty interesting photo effects.
The ones you linked to look good but I would advise against getting a semi transparent color. I'm thinking about getting one in black or white to see me through until Incipio release there NGP case.
Okay, I forgot the mention this before when I posted the images.
While they feel great and look really good.
I noticed NFC doesn't work with cover on, I think this might be the same for most covers and not just this one, but none the less if you use NFC a lot. Keep in mind you need to remove the cover to do so.

TPU cases typically don't fall off. You have to pop them off. They're pretty ideal.

Got my case today, super fast if you ask me considering I placed my order at 11pm on the 6th. Will definitely do business again with these guys. I bought it on Amazon from "SF Planet", they're out of Minnesota and I live in California.
So I checked out the case and the first thing I noticed is how thin it is, will add very little bulk to the phone. It's thick enough to hold it's form but thin enough to be very low profile. The case has shiny and dull areas on it....the shiny areas are very grippy, the dull areas not so much. But since the edges where you would normally hold the phone are knurled and shiny, gripping it should not be a problem. It's also got cutouts for the necessary areas, including both top and bottom mic's. Can't speak on the fitment for obvious reasons but will do so hopefully soon.
So far, so good.
People that buy this case in white, it gets very dirty! Only the left half of the wave design since it's a different surface. (matte vs. gloss).
Do TPU cases provide enough front coverage?
It seems like the Commuter would do better.
if your in london you can buy it from these guys... i bought a case for my SGS1 Year and a bit ago and they were really good than http://www.londonmagicstore.co.uk/Samsung/I9300/S+Line.htm

It certainly would, but considering the commuter wont be shipping until the week after launch I had no choice but to get something. TPU cases will guard against scratches, thats about it.

OP updated with my review
Was anyone else able to purchase a Nexus 5 bumper case? When I ordered my phone from the play store all of the cases EXCEPT the gray bumper said "coming soon". I assumed it was a glitch on googles website so I purchased the gray bumper to see what would happen (expected a "sorry this is backordered email").
But! Sure enough I just received my shipping confirmation email for both the phone and bumper case. Am I the only one? Just curious if this happened for anyone else?
How are you able to purchase the bumper when it says coming soon? How did you add to cart?
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda app-developers app
I find it odd that they're calling it a "bumper" case - I went to check it out because I hadn't already and it's a full body minus the display cover, when the concept of a "bumper" case means it's just "a big rubber band" of sorts that covers the edges of the phone.
I see it, I find it interesting in a way I suppose, but for $35 I'd spend my money on one of those Spigen Slim Armor cases myself - their Neo Hybrid one is pretty nice as well and still cheaper than the bumper from Google.
It's amazing just how much money these companies are making from these cases nowadays... few cents worth of raw materials, some CAD work to design 'em, few bucks for fabrication and packaging costs, wham bam profits man!
Also: that "red" one ain't red, that's orange... weird.

The bumper case is actually a hybrid case with a hard shell on the outside. I think they call it a "bumper" because the back is plastic and the edges are rubber inside... Either way I'm hoping its quality. I guess we'll see when it arrives Tuesday with the phone.

So basically it's a copycat of something from Diztronic like this:
http://tpu-cases.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=46_99&products_id=368
$35 for the Google bumper or... $10 (or less on Amazon) for the Diztronic, I wonder, I wonder. I could understand and deal with $19.99 for the Google one, but $35? Man, they must be learning from Apple nowadays or something.
I ordered one of these a few days ago, should be here on Tuesday:
http://www.amazon.com/SUPCASE-Google-Unicorn-Premium-Protective/dp/B00FN13EJK
Had one for my Galaxy S4 Active and loved it, it's such an awesome case, perfect tight fit, not loose anywhere at all. And it's a hard plastic shell (the yellow portion) merged with the TPU material (dark grey).

That appears to be a plain old TPU case... I have a diztronic tpu case for my N4. Googles bumper is hard plastic and rubber. A bit different. Doesn't justify the price... You definitely pay for the brand "Google". But hey... I'm a fanboy. I was just curious who was able to purchase one.

I was also able to order one as well. Shipped out at the same time as my Nexus 5.
I managed to order at 11:06pst, but then saw the bumper was available. So I ordered again at 11:13am with the bumper to save on shipping.
I also got the gray case, it shipped at the same time as the phone but with a separate tracking number. I know it's expensive but the LG bumper for the Nexus 4 was so sweet and kept my N4 in perfect condition through much abuse. So if this one is as good, it's worth it in my opinion

Same tracking number for me.
If I'm ordering an accessory without any reviews it will be a first party accessory.
Both should be here Tuesday or Wednesday. My new micro sim from StraightTalk won't be here until Tuesday so I'm not in a huge rush.

hmm from looking at the AC images... kind of wish I'd waited for the black one, instead of getting the gray one. oh well, looks pretty sturdy and protective
I don't know why they aren't released yet. However, I will get the black one when I can. Yes it is a lot but I'm also a Google fanboy lmao
I wish they made a true bumper like they did for the nexus 4. It was such a great fit and made with quality, that will be hard to find in 3rd party cases.
My N5 and gray bumper showed up today. The bumper is great! the back is hard plastic and the sides are soft rubber... hence the name "bumper" im assuming.

mine came today also. though the case has grown on me, it does add some bulk. the back does not taper to the curves of the nexus. has a very slight trapeziodial-like shape. it seems that google was going for a simple block look. seems that it will protect from falls. buttons don't have the feedback that i look for though they're easy to press.
edit: the case is a snug fit and does had some grip that's missing from the panda nex.
can recommend this case.

I'm really loving the case as well. May seem over priced... however it fits really well and the materials feel top quality. headphone hole is a good size, adds a lot of grip. and its nice looking! The gray color almost comes off white... which is actually a pleasant surprise for me.
Heres some pics of the N5 in the Bumper for anyone interested. (not the greatest quality... taken with my Nexus 4)
