if they exist for Linux then why not for Android?

Its not that simple. Just the same as x64 drivers not working on x86.
Drivers would need to be complied for arm but i don't think your going to find many sources to build from

There's an app out there, but my old printer didn't work with it.

This is not printing from your android. It's a poor attempt at a bodge. Basically the software runs on your PC. When you want to print something it sends it to your PC then your pc prints it.
If your PC is off then it won't work.
The reason they have implemented it this way is because it is nearly impossible to send a print job directly from android

Print using Menu "Print"
Has anyone ever used the 'Print" feature from the menu?
I have never been able to get my phone to find my printer.
I "add printer" type in the IP address that shows from my WiFi connection to my desktop PC but it says "Unable to find printer"
Any ideas?
I tried this whith windowsXP32bit and now I just got a Windows8 64bit PC and cannot get it to work
This app works!
Hey,
I was looking for a way to print from my phone (HTC DROID DNA) via OTG just to test a printer that I had.
I found an app on the Play Store that allowed me to print a test page. It's called PrintHand and it worked like a charm! It automatically recognized my printer and asked me if I wanted to download the proper driver, which it did pretty quickly.
However, you have to pay US$ 12.95 via in-app purchase or PayPal payment for an upgrade in order to be able to print your documents. Before that it only lets you set everything up and print test pages to see if it works.
I hope this can help somebody.
USB with HTC One M8?
Is there a way to use the usb with my phone? I have tried with a usb extension but doesn't print. Any info???
hi all,
i have an htc one x, official updated to jb, and rooted. (stock rom, i dont want to change)..
The UBS OTG work fine. But i've see that on the samsung galaxy s3, when you connect a pendrive though the usb otg, they open automatically.
Why on the htc one x it does not make that?
what can i do?
Thanks
You could maybe do it with tasker: when an usb drive is connected, it could launch app X to view the contents.

Ok thanks. But how to d this?

I'm not an expert with tasker. I only know that it is possible. Download it and experiment.
Hi,
Just got a new HOX and updated it to jellybean. Am unable to transfer music and other stuff to my phone using the usb cable connected to my PC.
The comp won't detect my HOX at all! Could anyone have a solution to this problem?
Thanks.
Plus i tried turning on/off usb debugging but that didn't work.

Try updating with the latest HTC drivers they got released recently (v3 is the old one floating around here, v4 is the one that fixed all my problems with windows8)

I'm using standard micro usb to usb otg cable and usb devices like mouse/kb, external hd and pendrives working fine.
Your pendrive dir should be in "/mnt/usb" folder.
If it's not there:
1. Your rom/kernel may not support usb-otg.
2. Your pendrive may need more power than your phone can give (unlikely).
3. Your pendrive has not supported partition type. Try format your pendrive to fat32.
