Perfectly is a big word.
There are dozens of users in other threads complaining that OTG doesn't work.
I tryed my logitech mouse and my pen drive and it does not work and I'm using the genuine Samsung cable.

I need to try this tonite to decide who's mad
But I heard 4.0.3 has otg support including USB stick using stick mount

Read somewhere the pen drive must be a 'green' drive (as in power saving). Can't for the life of me find where I read it, though
Has to be the most useless add-on IMO

I have dozens of pen drive no one works.
I'm thinking that people who says that USB Host works well on 4.0.2 are using modded kernel.

Read somewhere that Stickmount (on the Market) was required to make usb storage work.
My USB OTG cable and MicroSD card reader have yet to come in so I have yet to confirm thus myself.

4.0.3 + StickMount + cheapy cable + any old USB stick or uSD card reader I can find == WIN on my GN.
Can't comment on 4.0.2.

Yes, USB OTG works on 4.0.2 (ICL53F), try a USB mouse or keyboard. But there is a problem with external (pen) drives as the phone won't mount them. So although USB OTG "works" you can't use it with pen drives.
Your phone needs to be rooted and if it is, get "StickMount" from chainfire from the market. That will solve that problem.

Do you have to have a new ROM or can you just run Stickmount on the stock but rooted phone?
Sent from my Xoom using xda premium

Powered off the phone, connected the Logitech Unifying receiver, booted the phone.
Works both mouse and keyboard at the same time.
Now we need to wait for pen drive support.

you need stickmount and you need to have root, then pendrives should work
as an aside, i'm completely stock 4.0.2 on gsm, and my ps3 controller totally works in shadowgun now!

Is it my cable?
I updated to 4.0.2 and I have a USB Host cable (http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4-/24267949/-/Product.html). I tried plugging in a mouse to test, but nothing happens.
What am I suppose to see? a pointer?
Also tried 2 thumb drives with stickmount, but nothing detected.
Trying to work out if it's the cable or the things I'm testing are not compatible.
Thanks

Project external keyboard possible in kindle fire ??

I love kindle fire! best tablet $200 ! love LCD screen 1024x600 IPS!!!
But .. need to put an external keyboard to use in college in order to enter text! future can be no such enhancement like the ipad have?
Not yet. The best option is likely based on activating the bluetooth capability that appears to be on the motherboard. Developers are looking at that but are focusing on the ICS alpha.

I have a Galaxy S2, which does support my bluetooth keyboard.
Could I use wifi keyboard with the phone and the kindle fire, type on the phone via bluetooth, then wifikeyboard copies it to the kindle fire?
Ive a BT keyboard on the way, so I will test it!
It has been stated multiple times in the dev forum that there is no Bluetooth in the fire.

Hashcode did mention the possibility of adding 3rd party USB Bluetooth support to 3.0 once it is stable.

Yes, I never said I was going to use bluetooth.
The bluetooth keyboard connects to my samsung galaxy s2.
I run wifikeyboard on the kindle fire and galaxy s2.
I type with the bluetooth keyboard, it copies onto the galaxy, then appears on the fire.
Its a long way round, but at least I can use an external device when I need to do a lot of typing.

Actually I believe USB 2.0 not supported at this time as it requires too much power. But any regular USB keyboard should work provided you use an OTG adapter. Also flash drives and such should work as well on hash's kernel!

I am using that keyboard to type this, it works great. A powered hub is not necessary, just a cheap ~$4 OTG cable. I plugged it in on boot and had no issues. I have only had the case/keyboard for an hour now. I'll report back with any issues if any pop up.

Does anyone one know to install the kernal? I cant find a tutorial

SEJ: I would love to do the same, I assume this is still working for you?
A couple of other questions. Have you rooted the operating system or are you using the original Kindle Fire OS? Did you need to install a kernal to get it to work? In reading consumer comments from kindle owners on the Amazon.com webpage, it sounds like this keyboard did not work for many people; but I'm wondering if you had to do something different on the software side (or were they all not bright enough to buy the OTG cable )?
Thanks!

You do have to be rooted with a custom ROM and Kernel. Just root with the latest Kindle Fire Utility and it will install the latest TWRP Recovery. Then just flash(what I recommend) Hashcode's latest ROM because it has his latest Kernel with OTG support. In other words the keyboard will work.
Make sure you buy an OTG cable by the way...

USB Host Not Working

Hi guys. So the only thing I've done to my i747 is root it. I've tried both of the USB host apps in the market (USB Host Controller and StickMount) as well as the "SGS3-Easy-UMS" apk that's around, v1.2beta2 and v1.3beta. Can't attach any USB devices. All my flash drives are FAT32 and work well normally. I even ran the USB Host Diagnostics app and it confirmed that Android API, Rooted API, and Kernel "claim support" but no device is detected.
When I connect to sync, I can only do MTP transfers. This is why I looked into that EasyUMS apk because it apparently also allows to mount the phone on the PC as a USB Mass Storage device. During my search I see numerous people connecting flash drives, controllers, keyboards, and even a USB HDD to their sgs3's.
Because that apk requires busybox, and I have busybox, everything looked OK. However, I did once get an error from that APK about possible non-existant Kernel support. USB Host Diags disagree, as do many video tutorials.
Basically I'd like to know whether or not this is supposed to be working, and if not, then how do I go about making it work? I'd like to mount flash drives for easier use with Linux, and would like to mount the phone as UMS for the same reason. I would also like to use a USB Keyboard as well as a USB gamepad. Am I missing something? Are they all using the international?

got this one, a couple good reviews confirmed that it works with input devices: Amazon product# B005GI2VMG
i mean it's very possible that the seller just buys from random manufacturers without changing the listing. this one that i have is like the cheapest thing on the market so that may be the problem. i wouldn't mind trying a different one for <$5 w/ US shipping if that exists (recommendations?).
Same cable didn't work for me
I bought the same cable, but from a different seller. Amazon ID number B005N55WHI
And I have the same problem. Tried using it with several input devices and with several different roms and I couldn't make it work. Could it be a power issue? Does the USB device that it is being hooked up to have to be powered? I tried it with mice, keyboards, and flash drives, but all of those devices take their power from the bus, not an external source.
glad you posted. hmm. since we both have the same thing and they're both not working, i'm suspecting it's indeed the cable.
i read on a review of a different cable on Amazon where the guy cut open the connector and found no wire connected to one of the pins. i've had thinner-cable wires before that charged/transferred slower than others or didn't work at all on some higher-end devices, could really just be a cheap-out on the manufacturer's end.
i think i'd like to get a different cable. if anyone can recommend an inexpensive one that's confirmed working i'd appreciate it. so i don't have to shoot in the dark.
I got the one with Amazon ID B00871Q5PI and it worked for me. I tried a Dell USB keyboard, a USB mouse, and a USB DAC and they all worked. All take power from the bus.

No, would not make a difference. USB OTG is a standard and for now all devices that have USB OTG work with all USB OTG cables. I've used a cheapass one from Ebay with my S2/Note/S3 for more than a year now.
solved for me
so i got the one drothenberger got (actually that particular link was out of stock for the seller so i got the other suggested one that looks exactly the same, title OTG for SGS3 - item# B00871Q5PI) and i'm in business!!!
someone replied to my negative review of the other one i got in the comments and they said theirs worked. i think they just have different products under the same label or lots of defective ones. i'd recommend to just get the ones that specifically say OTG for SGS3 - the extra dollar or whatever is worth it to save the trouble.
thanks again to everyone for the troubleshooting, hope this topic helps others resolve their issues.

[Q] usb keyboard issues on kindle fire

I have rooted my kindle fire and put both aokp ics rom and jandycane rom at different times on my kindle fire. I'm using an OTG cable. I've been able to get my usb keyboard working on my kindle, only it's very very spotty; I've seen people using mouses with their rooted kindles, but mine does not work at all; and as for putting in usb drives, that has yet to work, though I've read other posts and people have said it works.
My question: is there a way to get the connection working better? I'm using the Logitech MK320 mouse keyboard combo with eforCity OTG cable. Thanks in advance for all who respond.

Sent from my Amazon Kindle Fire using xda app-developers app
Most USB devices require more amperage to run properly than the kindle fire will provide, this is why for standard USB keyboards, mice, and flash drives it is best to use an externally powered USB hub which will provide the extra juice, look around a little bit there is plenty of information regarding this in the forums if you take the time to search. Fyi even with the powered hub some devices just will not work with the kf.

Same as what jlshady00 said:
Silly Amazon doesn't have the required 5 volts (or whatever unit of measurement, I forget), unlike most phones and other tablets, so you should use a powered hub. You will need Stick Mount https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...ickmount&hl=en to be able to see flash drives. I don't know about mice and keyboards. I assume the same thing.

Thanks for your input. I've searched through the pages and had seen that it could potentially require a powered hub. Then there were pages that said it would require hash's kernel 3.0, and many other different things. I mostly was wondering if I was doing anything wrong because other people have said they've got keyboards working. Especially since my keyboard would work for a while; in fact, I was able to write about three sentences on my kf before it wouldn't recognize the keyboard, so I thought maybe there was a better way to do it or I was missing a step. To be honest, I find it more efficient to write down specifically what you have and what you've done, and all the specific information relating to your problem, then ask. It's more direct and less confusing. If nothing else, getting a response is reassuring.
Yeah, the new roms such as jandycane come with hash's latest kernel included so if the rom has been updated within the past month or so you should be good, but check the info on the thread as it should be listed.

I was reluctant to get one at first, but like everyone who's posted on the subject, tit is currently the only other way to get a usb keyboard working properly. [Q] OTG Cable for Sprint LG Optimus G LS970

Hi I am new to this forum and i just purchased and unlocked my Optimus G. Now I'm looking into a OTG cable that may work on this phone as the sprint version, as you all know, does not support Micro SD cards for extra data storage. Now i know they have wireless HDD's that you can carry to store information and Bluetooth keyboards and mice that you can connect to the phone out of the box. But i had External HDD drives that are not wireless and a Wireless keyboard/mouse USB combo all that i would like to run on the phone at a cheap rate. I have read some places that OTG is possibly not capable on this phone. Can anyone verify that this is not possible. Again i am very tech savy and my phone is rooted and unlocked, so if all i need to do is change a kernel or install some files i can definately figure out how to do that. Can anyone clarify this for me and if it is possible put links to cables and tuts on how to do this? i couldn't necessarily find it when i was looking on XDA earlier, and its the only site i really trust for information about my phone.
"USB host", or what is commonly referred to as OTG, is not supported on this device. I'm not sure of the usb controller so I cannot say as to whether or not this is a hardware or software limitation. Either way, I consider this a serious shortcoming, especially on a flagship device.
I was hoping you wouldn't say that. Well if that is the case, can anyone verify if this is not possible because of the software or hardware. If it is because of the software is anyone trying to develop anything for this right now? Thanks again for the verification^

the nexus 4 "doesnt support otg" yet people have modified a kernel to add the feature in. the device does NOT support 5v so you will need to power the hard drive or w/e with external power using a y-cable.
if we have the same usb controller as the nexus 4 then i would assume we'd have to do the exact same thing... custom kernel + y cable for external power. so try and get some kernel devs together and work on on getting that project started for the LS970 device if you really wanna see it happen.

This is what they had to say on the other forum so far. I don't know any dev's, but if any of you are reading this it sounds like there is a lot of Source Code developed for this already on the Nexus 4. If anyone reading this knows someone capable of doing this if you could forward it to them, because I'm sure I'm not the only person who would like OTG or "USB Host" be available for this phone.
I guess nobody has tried to work this yet? I still haven't seen any kind of development.

usb otg support on LG optimus g 970
I am running an Optimus G 970 and I was attempting to gain support of an external USB DAC called "HiFimediy Sabre".
My first project is to attempt to gain some usb otg functionality.
I created a cable to test since the native 5vdc power out function is not there.
I used my computer to power the cable with 5vdc which was verified by the phone "slow charging".
I ran the "usb host diagnostics". This is a diagnostic tool and it looks at the functionality of the usb port.
Note the following.
1. Phone is rooted.
2. Phone is running all stock software and firmware.
I was asked to reboot to apply a firmware fix by the app after allowing it rooted access.
The app was run one more time following the instructions on the screen and plugging in my pny 16gb usb drive.
It was not able to connect.
I received the following unique code: 188704.
I will follow up when I know more.

I just tried a wireless USB mouse (Logi M705) with my N7 2013 using this: http://www.amazon.com/aLLreli®-Adap...&sr=8-11&keywords=allreli&tag=viglink20238-20 (aLLreli® 7-in-1 OTG Adapter Cable) and it worked perfectly.
I am rooted and using Carbon.
My Nexus 7 isnt rooted. :-/
I will buy your OTG Hub, i believe in you that it works! Thanks! I say you when it works when it is by me at home.

It's not mine, just a suggestion. I believe you will need to root your tablet for this to work. And, there are plenty of threads here for rooting. The Nexus Root Toolkit is my choice. Search the forums and\or wugfresh. It's free and works perfectly.
I have that problem found, i needed ro connect my device to a pc.
