Hi guys,
I bought HTC wildfire S... Its a branded Australian version as i see 'NEXT' network logo on phone and box...
It has been unlocked coz i am using a different network in Asia...
Since it doesn't come in warranty, i want to Root it, and start installing custom roms on it..i know much about HTC sensation coz i own that too and have good knowledge of Android stuff...
Can someone tell me what should i do to Root it?
I saw in forums here that unlocking bootloader is via HTCdev and xtc clip...
I don't care about loosing warranty stuff but i want to enable ROOT and flash custom roms and remove the NEXT network animation on boot and remove all bloatwares..
Unlock bootloader and then root the phone. tutorials are in the forums.

HTCdev method is only option for me as i don't have xtc clip
i don't know of HTC Dev will have bootloader unlock for a branded Australian wildfire s....

...better wait for a time like revolutionary for a real S-OFF method.
Wonder how people can to this htc unclock without worries about their warranty.
I will wait for Revolutionary personally. More flexibility to flash radios, hboots, etc.
EDIT: And kernels (boot.img)
Confirmed. Unlock works.
SHIP S-OFF RL
I understand that unlocking your device via htcdev.com will irreversibly void your warranty, but is that also the case, if I unlock my device with the stuff from the revolutionary team ?
I never had a device, which could be unlocked that way. My first two android phones were Motorolas and they could always be converted back to stock, for sending them in for repairing or for selling them.

You probably can still revert completely back to stock, the point is that if you use htcdev.com they've got a record of the phone being unlocked (even if you return it to stock again), whereas if you do it yourself then revert it they wouldn't know it had been unlocked in the first place.
That sounds great, thank you.
Thank you !
Like the other I prefer another method...
i will also wait for revolutionary^^
luckily there is temp root so i can delete the crap i dont use
cant wait for it to come so i can flash the first coredroid beta on it^^
Temp Root isnt working...
If we use the htcdev.com or revolutionary HTC will find out that the phone was unlocked!

No. Revolutionary is reversible. But htcdev does keep a record forever. However, that doesn't screw you out of every single warranty like many think. Only a small number of software issues, otherwise you still have warranty. We will see how long many of you will wait for revolutionary before you cave in and unlock through htcdev lol. All of us vivid users never got anything other than htcdev unlock. All the devs working on s off told us that HTC made it a hell of a lot harder to crack the newer phones.

About htcdev unlock. They log your imei and serial number, yes. BUT the only thing you'll get after that is the posibility to unlock your device. Once we get Revolutionary s-off and then the ability to s-on again, how will they know if you really used the possibility to unlock your device? There's a final warning so no evidence you finally used it
Hopefully revolutionary team may be able to use the htc unlock method
Any way I just unlock it now using htcdev
Because I want it to try the temp-root to see if it will work with unlocked but did not work.
As I understood with unlocking using htcdev I still have the warranty for the hardware or I just lost all the warranty?
So just confirming that the htcdev unlock does not let the temp root work?

Being on the rezound I agree. And also the fact that before my rezound I sent back a dinc2 completed rooted because of hardware problems and had no issues.

That's right, you still got most of your warranty intact..

So; in some cases, not all, where the damage is caused by unlocking warranty will not be valid.
if the temp root doesnt work after the htcdev unlock why would you then wanna use it and tell them what you did^^
I've got permaroot working with an unlock by htcdev. Wai for mike to update his thread
Hello guys, my sisters WFS is on build 2.26.707.2, could anyone guide me on how to s-off the WFS? the whole bootloader part i can't understand but recovery i do as i'm using a galaxys2.
The only way to S-off the GSM variant ATM is via XTC-Clip...............For know the only free way to root is by unlocking the bootloader.
To see if your current software is unlockable....Switch on your phone while holding the Vol down key.......this will result in opening the bootloader........if it says LOCKED on the top..........then your bootloader is unlockable
Proceed to step 1 on HTCdev, com

There is no way to S-OFF without an xtc clip regardless of what you're currently running. Fortunately you don't need to S-OFF in order to install custom roms, like csoulr666 said you'll need to visit htcdev.com and follow the instructions there. That will unlock your bootloader, but also invalidate your warranty.
For unlocking only
Try this link for unlocking without voiding warranty.

No and no.
There are some Chinese websites that can unlock without using htcdev but once you unlock. the phone will know that it has been unlocked.
If you relock. The boot loader will say relocked rather than locked so HTC will know that it has been done. Even if you don't use their tools to do it

You must have root , S-OFF and SuperCID
But I haven't 10 posts already, so I can't make thread with tutorial
You gotta get S-off by rooting it. flash a custom rom and done.

I know this is an old phone but my mother was complain about it so I told her I'd see what I could do, the usual method of unlocking the phone via htcdev does not work, just gives me code is to long error, so I turned to the forums looking for way to unlock and root the phone, all I want to do is install CM 10.1 but since I can't even get it unlocked, and it will not downgrade with RUU is come to ask if anyone here is still alive is there a still working method with active links to I can get the job done?

Well first I tried unlocking it via HTC dev but it would not take the code, so I came to the forums and seen that first I have to debrand it, so I'm stuck at debranding since the phone will not allow the firmware to be downgraded, which i learnt then that id have to force downgrade h-boot so I can downgrade the firmware, thats where im at, stuck at debranding -.-

You don't require to debrand to unlock IMHO...............go word by word on the instructions on HTCdev.com, Just proceed to the steps since you have an unlockable bootloader
