Another I9100 leak on its way... it is a shame we haven't gotten anything ICS leaked yet.
I bet they are holding our update until after the sprint nexus launch.

Of course they are, why give us ICS now. Then we wont want to buy Galaxy Nexus, the E4GT is a better device!

It is a better device ...maybe but if it has exynos 1.5 ghz it may not be a better device . I like higher resolution of screen ....camera eh who cares ...we shall know soon but yes if its the same as vzw yes ours is better

Agreed. Our phone is better.. The nexus might have a higher resolution screen but the pentile-ness of it is annoying. Holding it at any angle produces a 'rainbow' like band of colors that I don't have a problem with on my Epic Touch. Not to mention our GPU + CPU combo is better and overall feels snappier. The Nexus is a great phone otherwise..

some people care about the camera... a LOT. it's probably the main reason i would never consider the nexus. i mean, how can a high end device have such a crappy camera?
i'd actually say that the 1.5 ghz vs. 1.2 ghz matters a lot less-- WHO CARES? i mean, if you get your rocks off by looking at benchmarks scores it might matter, but in terms of real world use, there will be virtually no difference whatsoever

The camera is definitely the ONE thing holding me back. Of course seeing the phone in person may change my mind. Still kind of hoping on the Note coming to Sprint...
ICS for the Epic and the launch of the Nexus G have no relationship. If that were the case then they would hold off on the ICS for the Nexus S too. I know for a fact Sprint is working on getting the Nexus S update approved. It just had bugs they had to get out. It should be launching in a few weeks.
I have no idea when the Nexus G is coming but I would think April-May. I bet our phone gets ICS in April. Samsung hasn't even made a build yet for Sprint to test so it is not coming soon. At this point it is Samsung's fault, not Sprint's.

The funny thing about all that is most people probably underclock to get better battery life out of the phone than overclocking for speed

The thing important feature with the Galaxy Nexus camera is that it takes pictures practically instantly. And to do that, the CMOS battery for the camera that could do that was 5MP

Doubt it. Sprint probably wants to clear their stock of wimax devices.

I underclock mine to 800 for better battery. The dual core helps. I would guess a single core wouldn't take that reduction in speed very smoothly. Second, I seriously wonder about this, how many of these people that have their panties all in a bunch about ics have actually used a phone that has ics on it and not something just kanged together? Yes, many people are looking forward to the update, but I'm not the only one who thinks it's not all it's hyped up to be. Yes,I have it installed on my ns4g. No, it's not a kang. I really don't care for it. It's cosmetically different, so you're going to have to learn the different way of doing things. Other than that, I don't notice much of a difference. The camera has panorama, big friggin deal. Yeah, it's probably alot like going from windows 98 to xp. You're going to say "how do I do this" or "where do I find that" often. I'm sure I'd get used to it eventually but it's too meh for me atm.
As for lte, it won't be in my area at the launch. Even if it was, I wouldn't get the gn. I would wait and see what the nexus 4 is like or get a galaxy 3. I couldn't give a rat's ass about nfc, so, what other new feature could they come up with? A barometer? Sheesh!

The crappiness of the Nexus camera has nothing to do with 5MP vs. 8MP. The Nexus camera has an inferior sensor and lower max aperture. Many people have complaining about how pixelated images look if there is not plenty of light

Since it's release date on October 10, I've been debating on whether or not I should get this over the Amaze 4g and after 4 days, I decided that the galaxy s 2 is the best choice for me. Now after watching some videos of the original galaxy s 2, I want to know what things were left out in terms of processing power. All I know is that it uses the snapdragon s3 processor which runs on an a8 cortex as opposed to the a9 in the exynos processor. I know that speed is one of the things that the exynos has over snapdragon and also the fact that it's asynchronous as opposed to qualcomm running one core at a time (correct me if I'm wrong here, not savy on processors). The biggest things I know I will use on this phone is Internet, photos, media, and some gaming here and there. On YouTube I saw the original galaxy s 2 capable of running an N64 emulator with virtually no lag, though I don't know if sound was included, and the same goes for the psx emulator. I also saw how it was able to play multiple video formats (including 1080p mkv files) with no issues whatsoever. I want to know if the snapdragon processor would still be capable of running emulators at similar speeds and still have support for multiple video formats even though it's not as fast as the exynos processor. Help is definitely appreciated.
P.S. This was typed on an iPod so sorry if there are any typos and grammar mistakes.
The Qualcomm chip is asynchronous.
Right now, I don't know how much Samsung did to fine-tune the system to accommodate the hardware differences....but like you said, the Qualcomm chip is A8 and the Exynos is A9.
That speaks for itself.

Essentially, the Qualcomm chip is running on an older architecture relative to the Exynos, which is typically why the Exynos outperforms the Qualcomm even at lower clockspeeds. I'm guessing T-Mobile needed the SGS2 to be on par with with its siblings thus the higher clockspeeds (1.5ghz) to accommodate the older architecture.
The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S if I'm not mistaken are also running chips that are based on the A9 architectures.
There is a difference when using the original SGS2 with the T-Mobile version...but it's not too drastic. What the CPU makes up in lack of speed, the big screen more than makes up for it.
I'm quite new to this forum, therefore I can't post external links yet. However, perform a google search for "How Samsung's chip change-up affects the T-Mobile Galaxy S II" the first link is an interesting article.
The normal clockspeed for this processor is 1.5GHz

What I took away from that article is that they went Snapdragon in order to use another modem chip to be able to do 42Mbps. The sacrifice is graphics performance.
Hmm, it plays my HD movie great. Not sure I will ever play a first person shooter on it...

i was about to point out the same
the Qualcomm CPU stock speed is 1.5 Ghz, the same CPU on HTC Sense was actually under clocked to 1.2 Ghz
so the new HTC Amaze is using the CPU at is normal speed like on our phone

It also sacrifices general OS performance, at least in its current state. Looks like Samsung did no optimization on this guy for the qcom SoC. As it currently stands, I find it more laggy than my (admittedly) highly optimized Epic (single core). Hopefully things will improve with devs, etc.
I had the original and was using it on att gophone,
and sold it to get this. I needed to be on a contract and Tmobile was my only option so I got this
User interface was faster and smoother, apps opened and closed in the blink of an eye
games also ran with no lag whatsoever
Screen is bigger, no hardware buttons, and faster data is a plus for me
Tmobile is very spotty in my area tho
Sometimes I feel like I should have stayed
This phone has been behaving differently
The user interface is nearly as smooth and some of my favorite games lag
(Dragon fly, modern combat 2)
Still a great phone but these 2 Arras are disappointing for me

To be clear, gaming performance will never be as good on this platform. The GPU is severely weaker than the exynos models. What remains to be seen is if the rest of the OS can be optimized though.

It is a slouch relatively speaking, to the people who forked out full retail for this phone.
I might get this phone, if and only if, FULL hardware acceleration is not announced on the Prime, even then, I shall hunt it for free via retentions.

I am one of the people who forked out full retail. I can take a picture of my receipt to prove. We nit pick at every single phone that comes out. Trust me when I say this phone isn't a slouch. Yes it stutters once in a blue, but its fast and pretty smooth. All we need is an official update from Samsung to fix the issue or get a few custom roms. I've owned literally every smartphone that came out for T-Mobile this year and the previous years and I can honestly say this happens to be the fastest, even with the slight stutter it gets every now and then. It's just a slight software issue. I believe that this processor is capable of getting the job done.

I also paid full retail (pending Prime announcement), but I can tell you that my highly optimized Epic is smoother than this phone is right now in day-to-day use. Now, hopefully that means that there is a lot of room for improvement as this chip is theoretically faster and dual-core, but it is an open question of whether that promise will be realized.

This processor is the same one used in the now defunct HP touchpad. People have successfully overclocked their touchpads to 1.7ghz with minimal to no additional drain on battery but a noticeable speed boost. I imagine our phones will react much the same way
So I just watched the live feed from Honk Kong unveiling the new Samsung Galaxy Nexus device. All that I can say is wow! I might be returning my Galaxy S2.... They say it will be in stores by November, so I might have to suck it up until it drops. Does anyone else feel this way?

Not so quick. They still haven't confirmed when for the hspa so I would hold on for a little bit. I don't know why they only mentioned the overseas carrier and no mention of verizon or at&t and t-mobile.
I'll admit that they did add some cool features and all the swiping reminds me of Webos (gee I wonder why). Looks like google is moving in the right direction. I have to say this was more exciting to me than the iphone's release.
I'm may return my SGSII for this even tho I like it, the nexus prime looks amazing.
i agree...there are some cool features but there are also some that are gimmicky like the facial recognition. i know i for one am getting the device as soon as it drops, and i'm giving my gs2 to the wifey. hopefully not long after we can get ICS on the gs2 because with our specs our phones are more than capable of handling it.

They said they wanted it to work with the fastest networks. its just the first lte nexus. Which makes theirs exclusive cause of Verizon only lte network in the U.S.
I don't even think the phone is that exclusive as leaks were saying you can probably buy the gsm versions at bestbuy.
Nope...
I just got the GS2, and for what the Galaxy Nexus offers...not a chance I'm getting it. Everything still points to quite a few limitations:
-No SD Card, built in only (based on rumor and the specifications)
-4.65", serious?! The GS2 on T-Mobile is really pushing the size for me
-21Mbps vs 42Mbps, the difference is noticeable for me and I don't want to go back
-Camera, doesn't seem to be really any better than the GS2
-Still concerned about the rumors regarding the HD AMOLED being PenTile again. I know some people can't see it, but PenTile drives me insane.
To me all the excitement around the presentation was ICS, not the Galaxy Nexus. The GN was actually kind of a letdown for me personally.
Although...ICS didn't really get me too excited either. I'm mostly looking forward to the hardware GPU acceleration for movement and such, although it's a bit concerning that some of the demo movements had a bit of lag.
Just my thoughts on the presentation.
If this phone had ICS running on it right now then none of you would be so quick and eager to say I'm returning my phone for it. They didn't even mention if or when there will be a T-Mobile version. Most likely a T-Mobile version will be see for next year. Cool your jets and relax guys. I'm sure we'll get out turn with ICS. Thank you. I'm glad I'm not the only one. Our phone is very capable of doing the same exact things as the Galaxy Nexus. The only jaw dropping thing about the Galaxy Nexus is software. Come on guys, don't let it fool you. The only thing I admire about the Galaxy Nexus is its screen. Other than that who cares? I'm just glad that the hardware wasn't too groundbreaking that our phone couldn't keep up. The screen is the highlight as far as hardware is concerned on the GN. we have the same ram, a better front facing cam (2mp on the GS2 vs 1.3mp on the GN), nfc, we both shoot 1080p and we even have a 8mp camera vs the 5mp on the GN which I bet is just as good. MOST IMPORTANTLY WE WILL NOT BE OUT OF DATE OR MISSING ANYTHING! CONSIDER THE NEXT NEXUS DEVICE (the one after the Galaxy Nexus) OUR OFFICIAL UPGRADE PHONE.

It rips off cyanogenmod, miui, sense and touchwiz. Also the 1.5 snap dragon is only faster if all you care about is a number on a spec sheet. It's actually a little slower than the 1.2 exynos.

True, but the Galaxy Nexus doesn't use the 1.2 exynos, it uses a Texas instruments 1.2ghz.
I was more intrigued by the ICS stuff more than the galaxy nexus. The screen resolution would be nice, but I don't think I can go any larger than the 4.5" GS2 screen....

hi guys, just want to know if its worth the switch. also has the heat issue been resolve on this phone? thanks
What heat issue? And if you're coming from a sgs2 its not really worth the upgrade hardware wise unless you're looking for improved audio or want os updates. Really, you'd be paying for stock android and Google updates. Is it worth the price to you?

i heard there's alot of heat issue using the device, to the point of burning someone hand.
I made the switch and definitely think it was worth it, but then again, I am a software guy and love the options. It is a downgrade in hardware though, I especially miss my sdcard. Guess it all depends on which is important to you, hardware our software. If you prefer better hardware then it probably wouldn't be worth it.

GN isn't really a downgrade, it's more of a sideways move when compared to the SGSII. Processor power is similar, GN has a worse camera and no SD card but a better screen (HD) which is a huge improvement in my opinion (unless you're talking about the SGSII with the HD screen, which is a rare beast, not available everywhere).

This, it's a lateral-ish HW shift. I didn't dislike my SGSII, but I like my GN that much more. It's an overall smoother experience. I'm happier with the "small" things as well, the phone feels better in the hand, the button action is smoother, etc... I can't run Touchwiz any longer either, and who knows when Samdung will release kernel source for ICS. Probably long after they release a finished ICS.
People who expect impressive benchmark scores will be disappointed, the GN isn't as much of a benchmark queen as the SGSII (Exynos).
I came from the at&t sgs2 and couldn't be happier. I seriously am in love with this phone.

Where did you hear that from and you believed it? It gets warm like any computer but burning someone's hand?! LOL!
GSII will get ICS sooner or later. Unless you simply can't wait, there's no reason to get GNex when you have a GSII.
I went from the SGS2 to the Nexus. I don't have any complaints but technically the SGS2 is better. If I had to pay for my Nexus I would not have made the switch as there would have been no point really bar having ICS

Apparently ICS is scheduled to land on the SGSII next Thursday (15th March) according to one of the Samsung Facebook pages and the news site I was reading. Maybe add a couple of weeks(?) for network operators to push it out.

Ics + touchwiz= gingerbread + touchwiz
They look exactly the same. Your better off waiting for xboarder port of real ICS

The only reason I still have my SGSII is so I can experience CM9 on it after kernel source is released, had been my daily driver since December, but no video recording yet, etc...
I wonder how long Samsung will put off releasing source this time.
Go with the Nexus
I dumped my AT&T Galaxy SII for a GSM Galaxy Nexus and haven't looked back. Once you go Nexus you never go back.
Personally, I like my GN more then my SG2 especially find the design of GN more polished. Still got my SG2 but thinking of selling it...rarely use it though I do like some of the features from touchwiz!

Sold my gs2 i9100 a couple weeks back, and used that money to get a gnex. I was tired of constantly looking for a new experimental build for ics experience, and considering how quickly the gs1 was ditched, but the nexus s is still officially receiving updates, makes me more confident in this phones last-ability and value. Only downside is no SD card, if you are a serious media junky.
I sold my SGS2 for my Galaxy Nexus. So worth it.
Hello
I come from a Nexus S that I just sold, I want to hear your opinion about what new phone to buy around 500 Euro

I did the samething. The SGS2 is a great phone but I got tired of waiting to see some ICS love. The development on the Galaxy Nexus is great, I'm happy I made the switch.

Ditto, I miss my SGS2 though, SAMOLED+, the camera, FM radio, other than that I like the Nexus a lot.

yea i agree with you, i like everything about my nexus except the camera and the screen, i meant the screen of our nexus is great but for some reason i think GSII's screen look better. After i tried Amoled Screen i don't want to go back to IPS anymore.
I don't own a nexus but I considered buying that beautiful phone many times. But now I think I'm gonna get the HTC One X. What do you guys think of that phone? Any of you getting it?
It's a nice phone.....but not worth the upgrade from a Galaxy Nexus.
Tegra 3 ain't too great for starters. But luckily they have a Krait option in the One XL.
The protruding camera has poised to be a small problem also.
And it's just so damn expensive right now.
Will probably end up holding this GN till the next nexus device comes out as I just got it. Unless the SGSIII is too damn amazing to pass up.

Sweet thanks for your opinion. Apparently the 4.0.4 update turn the nexus into a super beast, it looks very nice and fast.

But in all seriousness, don't think you'll find many people with the Galaxy Nexus who will dump it for a Sense device, a mere 4 months (at most) into owning the GNex. Just not that big of an upgrade, even if it was stock Android 4.

Cool I respect that. There is no doubt that the nexus is an awesome phone.
I'm not a fan of tegra 3 really, omap or qualcom preference. But the one x looks stunning. And I want HTC to sell a ton of these to get back in the game and mix things up.
Nexus always for me...
Camera is a lot better than I expected on the Nexus. Was expecting the worse, took a few snaps after updating to 4.0.4 and it's pretty good. White balance and color tones etc...are true and accurate.
In low light, there's a bit of noise but it's to be expected. Because it's 5MP can tell some shots just can't get all the detail when zoomed in and looking at the pics.
But the One X camera is a beast. The 4FPS is nuts, it's just continuous and stays in focus too for the most part. But it seems that it still isn't the best which is surprising. Just competitive with the other best camera smartphones.

Yea i'm over there looking at threads and replying and stuff.
Probably not now that I got a Galaxy Nexus. I was thinking about getting the AT&T version when it came out but I probably wont now. Doesn't seem worth it.
I might use my upgrade on an iPhone 5 or something or SGSIII depending on how the phones are.
Then sell one of them for the new Nexus in November/december
While the phone nerd in me wants the newest toys I know I would hate sense. I hear its gotten a lot better but I love plain Android. I tried miui and restored my back up 5 min later lol

I think One X is a significant upgrade:
1. cpu is almost twice as powerful
2. gpu is 2-3 times more powerful
3. camera is a LOT better accoridng to reviews
4. Display is apprantely the best on a smartphone ever. (this one may not be a very big deal for us but still a good upgrade)
5. Design is just awesome, seems a lot more robust and slim than gnexus.
When it falls short is the software. I've never owned an andorid phone other than gnexus so I don't know: do you guys think vanilla ics will be fully functional on this phone and when do you think it'd be available?
I'll try and get it when it comes to ATT

From my experience......AOSP on any other phone besides a Nexus is nice, but it just doesn't feel right. There are some small minor things here and there that just makes you want a Nexus instead so you don't have to deal with the little bugs.
It will definitely get Vanilla ICS eventually, idk how long....it looks like the One X will have a good dev community behind it. A lot of people are thinking it's one of the great phones ever lol
The CPU is better, but its literally just 2 more cores of the cortex-A9 which is what we're running also. And nothing is really utilizing it efficiently.
GPU is better but thats not hard honestly. Nvidia apparently isn't using any real new tech in it, they said it themselves somewhere. I'd wait for "Keplar" to be in it with Tegra 4 revision.
Screen is a toss up, it could be a lot better, and it might not...idk i don't have one lol. I have a feeling its nice, but idk if its a drastic improvement over SAMOLED HD.
Either way....best to know what Samsung does with SGSIII before making any decision. It might turn out like the SGSII and Sensation where SGSII just ended up smoking it. Though, the Sensation had a great dev community and definitely one of the largest outside the Nexus, and SGS series phones.

Totally agree
I'm usually on a one phone a year cycle with the Nexus phones, but since my GN screen is cracked I will probably jump on the SIII early summer and then sell that for the new Nexus and Jellybean at the end of the year. If the SIII comes packed with a bad ass Exynos processor then I'll definitely do this.
One thing about the nexus though, how strong is the screen? I mean it's not gorilla glass. Is it really resistant?
Definitely a great phone, i doubt ill be trading my Nexus for it though. i have convinved an iPhone user to buy it for his next upgrade so ill get to try it out

It is similar to GG in terms of scratch resistance, from personal experiences using SII and now GN. Sand seems to be the only thing that scratches it, so make sure u dont take it unprotected to the beach . it wont be as strong though, but under normal day to day conditions it should be fine, scores well in drop tests.
Which phone would be the better option to buy? I've been asking around and the results are mixed. The sensation is cheaper and I'm on a budget but there is a S2 not too far out of my budget. I am looking for something to last me a year max maybe a little more if needed. which will get me the best mileage and be stable. I don't want something that lags, something with a good camera, doesnt have to be top notch but takes clear images. I'm on an optimus one right now so either is a big upgrade for me. I'm thinking maybe in the year i can save up and just buy the next google nexus phone to come out.
This phone is better for development, the s2 all the way!

I have owned both. The screen is terrible on the sensation. Washes out as soon as you tilt it even 5°. It has bad screen refresh rate problems and everything looks blurry when it moves on the screen. The S2 has a great screen, better processor and camera. Go with the S2

so you think its worth 240?is the t-mobile version good enough to last maybe another year or so? It's already a year and a half old and I know its a slower processor than the international s2. I've been doing lots of reading on different phones so I can make my decision. I made a snap call on my optimus t and while its not the worst phone out there, it wasn't good for two years. also if i get it and i do some modding, how much storage is there and is there a good app2sd or link2 to add to the amount i can store on the phone

Phone supports 64 GB SDXC cards, not officially buy just stick and format the card
In the phone and use ICS it higher and it'll work.
Sensation is over 2 years now no? Plus the T989 specs slap it anyway. As for the processor being "better," on the international, I'm not going to say that's wrong, but that's from synthetic benchmarks and even then its only a 5-10% performance difference for the 1.2 exynos, real world application u can't tell the difference, gaming, browsing or anything.

benchmarks don't mean anything to me. it's like specs for a motor on paper. imaginary. I like to know how it actually handles with apps running, multitasking, gaming, streaming and all the stuff smartphones are suppose to do but some can't.I really think I'm settled on the S2, just watching the price hoping it'll go down a few bucks this weekend. fingers crossed.but I like the specs on it better anyway plus i can set up nfc beam so i can start saying my phone can do that, mocking the commercial.

If your buying out of contract then yes this phone is worth 250 in my opinion. Its the best phone I've ever owned and myself will be keeping it until the GS4 or next Nexus device comes out which is later this year.

I have bolth. They are equally cool. Screen looks nice on either... Just smaller on the sensation.. However the sensation has a better screen resolution. As for development I'd say its in favor of the sensation.. It has way more ROMs and kernels available.. And when its juiced on over clock and other performance addons it kills the S2 in benchmarks.. But I prefer my S2.. Its just nicer IMO..
