Now Netflix is launched in the UK, I expected to be able to download Netflix in the UK marketplace, but it doesnt appear to have been added.
Does anyone have the Netflix XAP? So I can sideload it onto my phone.

Just FYI ive tried this form the usa XAP but it just hangs after enter my details,, maybe it will come soon
Yeh, I managed to get it too. I also have the same problem, just keeps trying to log in, but nothing happens.
I've been trying the US app since the day Netflix launched, and I've not been able to log in. Eventually, if you keep the phone alive long enough, it'll give a login failed message.
Maybe they're waiting to release a Mangofied version of the app, since the current version doesn't support resuming and stuff?
Just a heads up this is in the marketplace now
This is the link to Marketplace online. You can get it from here if you can't see it on your phone yet.

Would have been much better if you could browse the contents and app.

P.S. You should be kidding, correct?

Netflix requires a login before the person can even use the app in contrast to HTC Watch or the new 7Digital app for example which lets you view the contents of the markets and lets you play demos.
NETFLIX cannot be compared to HTC Watch. NETFLIX > HTC Watch in terms of streaming and contents.

Netflix is always (as far as I can remember) offering a free month of service. You also may get paid for that month (via eBay, Bing etc. - google for that). So, I believe it's more than enough for adult (who has a valid cc and can legally sign for service). Of course for child or teen it's a big obstacle

Hi
I can't find RockPlayer on the android market does anyone know what happened to it ?
Me neither
PM me if you need a copy
it looks like they took it down a little while back?

You can get it from here.
You can also look for arcMedia in the Market, which also plays DivX files - it's not as good quality as RockPlayer IMHO, but it is good enough.

That's very old - pre-Market release. It does seem that it has been pulled from the Market now though.
Regards,
Dave
Thanks for the feedback guys but does anyone know why it was pulled from the market ?
google pulled every version apart from the ARMv6 version, i assume the dev pulled that version out of protest or somthing
AFAIK google classed the app as Warez as they did not have a licence to run the codecs it was running (or something like that). This is why its no longer in the market, and it may not make a return.
All versions have now been pulled from the market.
See this is what pisses me off about android, alot of people moan about supporting developers, well i supported RockPlayer by purchasing the full version for £10 now there no longer in the market, so i got a free app, paid extra money to support a developer i thought was actually worth investing in and now they've gone from the market, if it was there choice or googles ive had no information or comunication from RockPlayer on how or if there will be any updates from this point on or have i just given them £10 for nothing. I paid for the full Arm 7 version even though i have found a cracked version that gives the full version with the validate option removed and all the paid features added, but still thought they were worth supporting.
I hope im wrong & rockplayer will someday return, but stuff like this makes me think i should just use illegally obtained apps instead of throwing money down the drain.

We are returned as a unified package, thus users need not worry about CPU model things, please search RockPlayer now in Market. And it is always available on our website anplayer.com .
Would you please share me any original words or info from Google side? Indeed they didn't gave email notification or any explanation, even we complained through Market support page. We guess it is because our app cannot run on all CPU, there are so many video players using FFmpeg, but seems we are only one distinct CPU for performance.
Just in case anyone was wondering, the Zune client has been updated to 4.7. I don't see any live download links, looks like you need to already have the Zune software installed, and it'll auto-check for updates.
Some nice changes, and the Marketplace for Windows Phone 7 is also live so you can take a look at some of the apps currently available. This just gets me real excited.
That being said, anyone wonder why the Marketplace would be open when no devices are even available. I wonder if devices will be available sooner than we think...
Update: It looks like apps keep getting added and added as time moves on. There were only a handful of apps 10 minutes ago, and now there are a bunch more.
Update 2: Download link! The FULL Zune Client 4.7 package.
Wow, good discovery. Updating now.
edit: Whats strange is a lot of the apps are already reviewed. I dont get it o.o

Well technically the phone has been in testing/use for months now, so i'm sure those reviews are all from internal testers, developers, and the lucky few who get to test out these devices.
awesome, I will be upgrading my software tonight after work There will be phones available in the US on AT&T by Nov 8 and sooner in Europe I believe.
Does anyone have any word on how the Zune software will check it's location? I have a US Zune Pass for my Zune 80 but I'm currently living in the Netherlands (the pass is run on my American bank account). To get the Zune marketplace to show on my desktop I had to set my computer location in Windows to US.
Now the big question is: will a WP7 phone just believe my american hotmail or will it do some nasty IP checks or SIM code checks? I would love to have my Zune account directly connected to my phone, so I'm guessing this will be the deal breaker for me.

Not many apps on the marketplace. How are they suddenly going to have 2000 apps (as stated) on the app store by launch date next week? Confused.
No worries, there are still testing...think about the Netflix, IMDB, Ebay, twitter apps, they are all announced and not there. I think we will see much more 21st ongoing...

What's your country set to in windows? Maybe try changing that and reloading the zune software and see if it works?
Changing Location setting to United States worked, thanks for the great tip!
I think you need to change your computers region to a country where the marketplace is launched, e.g. UK or US.
Installed Zune Software for the first time yesterday.
I like it!
Um, I've had Zune 4.7 for a week now (or more..?).. I just clicked the update button and it did it for me.. so don't know what all the fuss is about. There was about 200 apps when I checked about 4/5 days ago, and as of last count they have 409 apps. Which certainly beats the Zune HD count of like 30 in over 1 year lol.
A few of the app's aren't displaying their picture which is annoying, but it will get there. With 4/5 days left till the launch, I'm not sure if they will get to 2000, but they most certainly are doing a decent job of going about it so far.
Some of the app's look pretty useless, and might never get used, but the xbox live games look GREAT. Can't wait to test this out in a week.
Lack of gaming apps does bother me a bit though.
EDIT: I don't know why but the Zune Software seems a bit sluggish to me now.. it can't be my computer.. its an Alienware so it's fast. Don't know why it lags at times.. it used to be speedy.

While I do love lazyworm, MS should never stop fighting as there is still no way to select which app is the default YT launcher and I'm sick of copy pasta. Plus its just crappy business practices on Googles part.

Actually you're right. That said, if they do get the green light form Google I would like them to fund Lazyworms and integrate it as an official app rather than starting from scratch. At least Lazyworms gives the app full support, the same cannot be said from whoever did the official twitter and facebook apps for instance.

I would love to pay to buy this apps but my country is still currently not supported by MS in marketplace and Zune, would not like a fake address live id approach, and would like LazyWorm to have another payment channel like moBudget (pay with paypal and download the trial version and it will work like the paid version...)
Forget it. All players seem to have a portrait video player with the ability to swipe left and right while the video still plays. They seem to have came up with the same idea on different sides of the earth.
Lazytube portrait mode didn't allow reading of comments while watching a video, the video played but you couldn't read and watch at the same time. This update made it possible to read and comment just Like another famous player. Yeah, its nothing like that other player though, I'll be blind.

i would really like to hear it from MS and google about what disagreement they are having. MS is bringing youtube to Xbox. So Google is not completly blocking them out. If google is blocking just for WP, isn't it abuse of market leadership? Google is already under fire for such behavior, I don't believe that's the case.
If anyone has links to any good, accurate information, please let me know.
Having said this, Metrotube is amazingly well done app. It deserves the name Metrotube as it beautifully adheres to metroUI.
Just downloaded this. Much better looking than the HTC Youtube (not that I complained about it).
Does anyone know if the free trial actually expires? Does it have all the features of the paid version? Perhaps the benefits to purchasing is gaining access to updates?
^ who knows. No one ever gave a definitive answer. I'll take metroTube anyway.
It probably is Google though, as there is absolutely no Google apps on this OS. However you have to look at the direct competition to Google which is Bing. So, its complex.

As far as I'm informed there are no limits or registrations. Trial and paid version are currently absolutely identical. You should be able to receive updates as well. The only "limitation" about the current offer is: it won't last forever. Means if you want the full app for free, better get it now.
But honestly, I'd pay those $0.99 anyway (if I hadn't already done it months ago). In my opinion LazywormApps deserve a lot more than that.
I looked up the youtube API restrictions... I think this might be the reason
What can I do if I'm running into quota limits?
The following information may help you to avoid exceeding quota limits:
•The quota system ties API usage to a specific developer key, which means your application is less likely to be flagged for quota violations if it specifies a developer key in its API requests.
•Different types of API operations count differently toward quota calculations. Generally, you can make more frequent HTTP GET requests to retrieve data than POST, PUT or DELETE requests to modify data.
•Your application should avoid making API requests that do not originate from user interaction. For example, continuous requests that are a part of a background synchronization or bulk import process are likely to trigger quota violations.
If the API does return a quota violation error, your code will need to detect the error and handle it appropriately. we recommend that you stop all API calls from your application for 10 minutes to "reset" your quota. When you resume making API calls, scale back on the frequency of your requests.
If you are still running into the quota limits within these guidelines, and you feel that the quota is throttling legitimate traffic from your site, please contact us.
Click to collapse
So I think Google is not willing to remove the limit for MS. If MS makes a dafault Youtube client, it is very likely to hit the limit as all WP users will be using it rather than other apps like Metrotube.
Other than that, I didn't really find any other restriction in the API.
The description in Marketplace says that the paid version supports HD video streaming. I'm guessing the trial is HQ only.
That said, my Focus seems to stutter even on HQ :/ Anyone else have that issue? Maybe I've dropped it one too many times, heh.
RESOLVED - app back in Market!
Looks like Amazon still has available.
It's a great app!
That's right it is still available on the Amazon Market but many of us have already purchased it on the Android Market, that is the issue.
Yes, I understand that as I purchased there also. Stinks that it's gone, probably carriers pushing for its ban.
I'm curious as well. Great app.
It's definitely the best voice over IP client for Android. I'll make sure I keep my copy backed up.
Y'all take a minute and write/call Google about it! Let's make them explain themselves! It's not right to do a dev like they did.
Here's the response I got from Google:
If you'd like additional details about why the app is no longer on Android Market, we recommend you contact the developer directly - we cannot provide any more information as to why the app is no longer available.

Yup it's back in the Market. Apparently Google took issue with one of the lines of description, something like "Google Voice VOIP". Thankfully this issue, or non issue rather, has been resolved.
The other day I was toying around with my 800, and at some point Carbon started giving me an error while refreshing the timeline. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but after removing it I realized I could no longer find it on the Marketplace. This surprised me quite a bit, so I grabbed my gf's 710 and looked for it but no luck, the app was still missing. Can you guys find it on your Marketplace? Maybe it's just a random bug, but it's weird to get it on two different phones I guess. I also tried to reinstall it through the browser but it doesn't work. I just hope the developer hasn't pulled it for some reason because this is possibly my favorite app, I totally can't live without it.
I found Carbon in Marketplace but it says that "This app is not available for your device. Tap here for more info."
After clicking on the "tap here..." it said:
App not available
This might be because your phone software needs to be updated, the app is exclusive to a different mobile provider, or the app is not available in your region.

On a side note, if you really need an alternative Twitter client, you can try Twabbit - its been touted in the web as an alternative to Carbon. Dunno though since I'm not really into twitter.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah I somewhat managed to grab a direct link to the app on the marketplace from an app review site, it gets me to the app but then it behaves exactly like yours. I've bought Rowi for now, it's pretty similar to Carbon, not as good as the real thing tho
I'll try to emal the developer anyway, I'd love to know what's going on, I paid for the app after all, so I'm supposed to be able to use it no matter what...I'll post the answer here, just in case someone else is interested.

That's a bummer...I'm curious, will you be getting your money back? I mean you paid nearly $2 for the app and suddenly you now won't be able to use it? Or was it your fault for uninstalling the app so they now owe you nothing?

This really is a huge issue isn't it?
With Apple and Android, once you buy an app you can then back it up to your PC. You "own" that local copy and can use it forever. With WP7 if a developer pulls an app, it's gone permanently if you ever uninstall or reset your phone.
Also this has happened quite a few times with a few different developers. I'm curious as to why they don't just leave it up and available to download, even if it's now unsupported? I can only presume that it's not making enough $$$ cover the annual developer subscription fee, which is weird; he only need to sell roughly 75 copies *yearly* at $1.99 to turn a profit.
Yeah, I thought that with the official Zune software from Microsoft, you can back-up your apps ala iTunes (with iOS apps). I'm using Windows Phone Connector for Mac and it doesn't really make back-ups. Can't we use Skydrive to make back-ups? Finally, we have the purchase history tab on windowsphone.com right? Then we have the option to reinstall an app via that website - I haven't tried it yet though so I cannot really say whether it works or not.
But Microsoft really has to address this issue - otherwise users might feel a bit cheated (even if its only for $0.99)

I tried the windowsphone.com method but it only works if the app is still on the Marketplace. It's not even a backup, it's more like a remote access to the Marketplace with the history of your downloads. I really hope Microsoft will offer better app backup solutions in the future, right now I must admit the situation flat out sucks.
I even tried to restore a Zune backup in order to go back at the time when the app was still installed the other day, but apparently it failed because once the phone rebooted nothing had changed. Wtf? Now even Zune starts acting up?

Nope. You can make a backup of a system image, but by restoring you lose all your currect settings, newly installed apps and it can't be restored to a new phone.

It appears they have; in WP8 you can back up everything to Skydrive, including what appears to be apps. Unfortunately WP7 is now end of life, so unlikely it will ever be fixed for current users.
