[Q] Photos Location - Arc S - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
May you please tell me if there's a way to directly save taken photos to SD Card?
I mean, apparently they're not saved in there since there is a "camera icon" on them (which can also mean they've been taken with the device)... I don't know.
However, when I click on its details it has a field named "Location:" and it has Unknown Location in front of it.
Thank you guys.

Photos taken from the stock camera app are automatically saved in the sd card.
About the 'location' you're saying, it's geotag. This feature lets you map the location of the picture, where the picture is taken.

[Q] Photos in Gallery not sorting correct

I have the T-Mobile SGS3. I noticed today while looking in the Gallery app to view my photos that they are not in the order that I have taken them. I checked the details, and the 'Title' shows the actual date/time the photo was taken. The 'Time' shows something different. The EXIF data from the photos that were instantly uploaded to my dropbox shows the correct timestamp of when the photo was taken.
I also noticed that some photos with different timestamps were the photos I used to transfer via Wifi Direct or S-Beam.
Is anyone else experiencing this issue? This is a major flaw if the timestamps are being changed due to transferring.
one more thing...
I also noticed that the photos are dated in the future. For example, one photo was taken on 7/13/2012 20:20 and now shows a date of 7/16/2012 10:02.
Hello?

Yes, the freaking timestamp is wrong in the detail. Thus making any google+ photo upload messed up in date as well. Tried clear data on both gallery and camera...not working. Tried to install default ICS gallery, not working. The only way I can view the image in right order is to use QuickPic...but the timestamp is still messed up. :crying:

This is happening on my Verizon S III also.
It seems to be Google+ causing the problem. I disabled Instant Upload and it appears to have fixed the problem for any new pictures I take. The pictures with the broken timestamps don't even have any data in the "date taken" field in the EXIF data when I check it on my PC.
Try disable G+ Instant Upload and let us know if it fixes it for you.

sort gallery pics and videos
Hi. i had a problem when i was copyin pics from one of my device to other. It couldnt be sorted . I tried many options such as renaming , quick pic . nne worked. I found that when you copy pics to windows and it automatically stamps a "date created" time any time a file is copied. Due to this when i copied my pics to a new device from windows folder it wouldnt be sorted by date taken rather was sorted by date created. the way around is not using windows as the middle platform.
I connected both my source phone and destination device to a laptop. Copy directly from one device storage to the destination device storage. this does not edit the time stamp. This worked for me and all the copied itmes were sorted in gallery according to time taken.
So the only way is to copy directly from one device storage to another device storage (without copying it to windows intermediate folder).
Hope this works. do let me know if you need any help.

No, unfortunately we've spent a ton of money on a top of the line phone with an incredible camera and it doesn't save the photos... j/k j/k j/k!!!
I hit gallery and there is a folder that automatically shows up titled camera which is where all of mine are housed. If you open the camera app and click settings (the little gear icon) and scroll down there is a setting for storage. Check where that is showing, it's either phone or memory card, but I believe gallery will show them no matter where they are.

[Q] camera saves photo to both cards randomly

I revelled this when I saw similar amount photos in both internal/external SD cards when browsing the photos in the gallery. I checked the settings of the camera and it is set to external storage (I couldn’t recalled that I have made this change so maybe it is by default).
Checked the time stamp of the photos in both cards and they look being saved to these destination folders randomly. Did anyone encounter the same problem or any suggestion? Thanks.
Hi
Quick question, are the photos listed in the camera folder and the dropbox folder?
Pete
The same happens to me, even pictures taken with seconds of difference are stored in different locations/folders. I am using stock camera app and still did not take the time to investigate the reason of this strange behaviour. Will check later.

HI
Are the pictures in two separte folders in the gallery ie camera & dropbox?, or are you looking at them via a folder explorer?

Hi, they are in two folders, one of them called "camera" and located in external Sd and another called "cámara" (camera in spanish) and located in internal Sd.

Single shots are stored on the sd card assuming that's what you configured.
Burst shots are stored on internal memory.
So are you taking single or doing burst?

Help find a picture.

Hey guys. I need a little help. I lost a picture on my phone as it got corupt. I did use the picture as a background on the messages app and it still shows when I text. Does anybody know where this picture is stored so as I can get it and save it. I would love to get it for my new S5 before I do a restore on my S3. Is there any program that would scan my S3 for pictures.
Thanks .

If it isn't showing up in the gallery, you'll need to know the name of it to find it. I would start with going to the My Files app and manually looking through the camera and downloads folders. The location will depend on how you put the picture on the phone originally. Did you take the picture with the camera on the phone? Did you download it from a website? Did it come from an app? Need to know that first.

Hey Thanks for the reply jack man.
I don't know the name of the picture. When you add the picture as a background in messages you have to crop it and then it saves it and it shows up in the picture selection for back grounds in messages. Its that location that i am looking for.
On a good note i did use titanium backup and did a restore data for messages and got the picture back as a back ground option. So i can use it again. But i would still like to know where that picture is stored on the phone.
Thanks for your help.

That still doesn't say how the picture got on the phone in the first place. When you go to the setting to change the background in messaging, it either let's you take a picture or view the gallery to select a picture. Is this one you downloaded? or took with you camera? If it gave you the option to crop it, it was probably in your gallery.
Try opening the My Files app. then click All Files. Then Device Storage. It may be in one of these folders - DCIM (if you took the picture with your camera), Download (if you downloaded it from the web or email), or Pictures (if you moved it directly to your phone from a computer).
It could also be on your external SD card if you have one installed. To check it, just back up to where you chose Device storage, then just choose SD memory card and look in the files there. If it's not in any of these locations, I have no idea. Good luck!
Also, if you downloaded the picture from an app (like Zedge), it may be in another folder that the app itself created for storage.

Yes it used to be in my gallery but it got corrupt and i cant view it any more. It shows up as a blank JPEG now and yes It was taken with the phone. However the picture can still be seen in messages. I would like to recover that picture in messages as it is the only picture remaining.

I've had that happen before. I think I fixed it by connecting to a computer and copy in it over then renaming it. Not sure if that was how... it's been a while. But it was something with renaming the file.
Hope it helps.
Open dcim and check the .thumbnail folder. Might still be in there.

Same account but they don't download.. how can i start that manually?
First, did you upload the pics from your previous device? Go into photos and in the upper left hand corner are three horizontal bars. Click on that, then go to settings and make sure back up & sync is on.

Yes if full of photos.. yes sync is up, i see photos but they aren't stored on my device as when i click on my device folders those are empty
Sync only uploads them to photos. it does not DL any. You can download them only one at a time with the Android app by viewing a photo and than tapping the three dots. Otherwise view them from the cloud. On a PC you can create a downloadable zip of whatever ones you want and then copy those to your phone. But they may end up as dups on your phone as it may get confused with the one on your SD card and the one on photos since it didn't originally upload the exact on on the SD card. Complete PITA.

Yeah, it would be a nice option especially if you could mark certain photos in bulk to come down over Wi-Fi. But it is contrary to Google's movement to all cloud based content and devices with non-expandable storage. That said they let you pin music from Google play music so why not the same for photo albums.
Yeah it kind of defeats the purpose of Google Photos cloud storage if you go for trying to download a whole bunch of them to your device. I've restored my 5X once just to start off fresh and it actually felt refreshing not to worry about my locally store pics getting cleared.
I do agree that pinning cloud albums would be nice to do for offline viewing just like Google Play Music.
