thinnest case - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

i am looking for the thinnest case for my 4g touch. all i really want is a case that gives me a little more grip so the thinner the better. i have a tpu flexible case
(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005MGUTW6/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details) and it just isn't thin enough for me.

Have you tried the sprint one? I know its a little expensive but it has a weave design that adds allot of grip and its pretty thin. Also as a bonus it has a kickstand

I have this one and have had it for quite q while now. it is thin but it has scratched the tar out of my phone on the side...if you use this, just do your best not to take it off on on too much.

Try the case-mate barely there

or the incipio feather.
http://www.myincipio.com/Samsung-Ga...-Touch-feather-Ultralight-Hard-Shell-Case.asp
I have the case mate and like it better than the incipio. Case mate covers the corners of the bezel where the incipio does not.

After using my protective case & holding it in my hand for awhile & noticing how its actually held. I've garnered the assumption that all that's really needed is a outside protective ring, if minimalism is what you're after.
The only thing I could find was one for the iPhone. Something like this would be good for the E4GT if you ask me:
They call this the Bumpy (bumper) case -

Actually I did find one for the E4GT on alibaba, but nothing from sellers in the U.S.

I also suggest the sprint case. If you buy it from sprint, expect to get reamed. I got mine there for 35 bucks, but it's on amazon for 15: http://www.amazon.com/Impact-Resist..._1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1326180224&sr=1-3
Thing is a beast for the size. I dropped my phone the other day and just about burst into tears, but this thing totally saved it. The kickstand is also an added bonus. you'd be surprised how often you use it.

I have the same case as in the Op and i don't think you are going to find a thinner case. pretty much as thin as they come.

Not too sure if you were replying to my bumper case comment, if so I just want to point out that the ones you have linked, while similar do not have an open back.

Possible to cut the back out with an x-acto knife.

I have one of these "hybrid" cases and use it everyday because of the hard back (to protect that thin battery cover). Don't think cutting the back out would work simply because the structure of the case is built around the rigid back, but I suppose one could try it (they are inexpensive). The bumper is also pretty thick so it adds to the quite a bit to the girth.
FYI Have the "barely there" for going out, but don't feel it protects enough for everyday use.

I have this case. I hate thick cases and cases in general. In fact, I've been caseless for months with only one small little scuff mark on the bottom left. However, I decided to put the case back on but with two small modifications. I hate how the case runs a thin piece of plastic over the top of the volume and power buttons. I cut them off and it's MUCH BETTER. Now I can confidently recommend this case.
Edit--------------------
I do have one issue with the case and that is with its design. The kickstand is on the wrong side. When you use it, the power button is on the top and the volume keys are on the bottom. It should be the opposite. I usually want to adjust the volume if I'm using it watching something, I rarely want to use the power button. Small, but annoying flaw in my opinion.
-------------------------
(and yes, taken with my Epic Touch 4G!)

This is the case I bought. I used the bulky rubber cases with the protective glass covers for a long time, but with SII, I decided to go slimmer. I don't have anything on the glass and this case fits the phone perfectly, actually giving it a better feel and weight. It has a sleek look that most cases don't with a brushed aluminum finish on the back. It really looks like it's part of the phone. I can't recommend it enough. The only drawback is that it is minimalist and probably doesn't have as much shock protection as the thicker rubber/plastic cases. That being said. I think that I dropped my previous phone once over it's two year life, so I didn't sweat shock protection much. If you drop your phone alot, this might not be the case for you. Just thought I'd share. I found a link for this case for around $20 when I bought it. The link below is $25. I'm sure you can score a crappier case for $1, but I think the $20 bucks for this thing was worth it. High quality and it looks really nice.

*edit: Sorry for the link. I don't have 8 posts yet in order to post a link, though I've been reading this forum for 2 years now. Oh well. The link is just the first result I got from Google, so hey!

I have the Sprint kickstand case as well but only paid 19.99 for it through Sprint when I ordered my phone.
It's thin, doesn't grip onto material (pocket in pants or purses) but does feel secure when holding it and the kickstand is handy (one of the things I loved about the Epic 4G phone).
I've put it on and removed it from my phone numerous times (I recently bought the desk dock from Sprint) and it's left no scuffs anywhere on my phone.

This will make a thin case for you. You better be good at masking off areas you don't want it on (screen, buttons, ports, camera lens and flash area and rear speaker). Take the battery cover off and mask the area underneath, that way you don't seal the door to the phone. Yeah this is sarcasm but it "could" conceivably be done and be the thinnest case.
I actually thought about doing this but I don't think my skills are up to the task. It can be peeled off if you don't like it.

totally agree. annoying as hell. but i think i figured it out. and maybe you dont do this. but watch ALMOST EVERYONE with their phone. when they turn it sideways, thats how they turn it. so when the case manufacturer made it, thats how they turned it. so, is it the manufacturers flaw? or samsungs?

I recently bought the sprint case on eBay Ford 12.99 awesome deal! And I love the case! No problems at all. Plus I'm a sucker for carbon fiber

Stay away from the Sprint case, it has poor build quality and will scratch your phone after a while. If you want a thin case, get one of the TPU ones.
Transmission sent from a Galaxy S II with XDA Premium

It may not be the thinness but in my opinion its one of the best. I have the Platinum (aka Seidio) case from Best Buy. It's the 2 piece slide in case with holster. It works great.

Not sure if anybody's tried this case or posted a thread about it but this TPU case is less than 5 bucks so I figured I can't really lose much here if I'm not satisfied. I bought the other TPU case that's pretty common on ebay with the polygon design on the back and I hated it because it made the unlock button so ridiculously hard to press that I had to use my nail. I eventually ended up cutting the button out with a razor blade but I was still unhappy because I didn't like the polygon design.
When I saw this case I noticed in the photos that the button design on the case were circular instead of squared like the other TPU case and that the back design were just criss-cross diagonal lines which I thought looked MUCH better and the circular button design appeared to function a lot better from the photos although I wasn't quite sure but like I said I figured what the heck could I really lose but 5 bucks.
Anywho, I got the case in today and it's the PERFECT case that I've been looking for. It keeps the phone looking thin and the buttons are soft and easy to press just like I was hoping. It functions just like the black silicone case you can get from tmobile but still keeps the phone looking thin. I definitely recommend this case and I think it comes in various colors.
Just wanted to give my .02 cents and sorry for the ridiculously long post lol

I can't really take any photos cause I don't have another camera but it pretty much looks exactly the way it's shown in the ebay photos. The fitment is great also. It's really well worth the 4.48 or whatever the price was lol.
I had something similar for my HTC Magic, the one issue I had with the case though is since it is silicone and not as hard as some materials, you have to make sure you keep the case in its shape; I flashed a new Rom on my Magic every 12 hours (which required to take the case on and off frequently) and my case started to become deformed and leave major spaces between the phone and the case allowing dust to get inside.
This is just my experience from a similar product but try it, it protected my phone from many drops without giving the phone itself any damage.

do these types of cases stick to your pockets? I have the t-mobile gel case and it pulls my pocket lining out with it half the time.

No these are made of tpu so it's not sticky like ordinary silicone skins. It's a more solid material. Doesn't have that rubbery feel that regular silicone cases have. I have the tmobile gel skin too and although it's much better then your average silicone case I didn't like how it added a lot of bulk to the front of the phone.
thanks, i agree the t-mobile case is bulky as well

ahhh, i bought that, got it 2 days ago, i LOVE it.
it covers the front around all the way until the glass area so its very tight.
very flexible, and in my opinion i think it offers more protection than the hard cases because of the cushioning you get from the flexibility of the material, but its still very solid, pretty easy to take on and off too.
bought one and agree
very nice case, great tight fit, minus the annoyances of all other cases I had tried

Atrix TPU Case Received, pics inside

Hey everyone, I received my TPU case from EBay (item 290530353216) today, here are some comments and pics. The fit is only OK - the cutout for the USB/HDMI ports is a little off, and there is a little bit of an edge around the power button that impedes fingerprint swipability a little. I will say too that I didn't expect it to have the goofy pattern - what is it with TPU cases and argyle patterns?? Also, as you've noticed it is somewhat translucent.
I give it a 3/5. $7 shipped in the US. I'll keep it until another inexpensive case rolls around that is higher quality.
And just in case anyone wonders, on my screen are the Pandora Widget, Android Agenda Widget, and some apps. I am running ADW Launcher (free). Also, I know I left my back panel sticker on there, and that was on purpose.

Yeah seriously with the frikin argyle ****! Its like they made a billion sheets of the argyle TPU and they just like heat mold them to phones (not like thats how they're made). This will be my third phone encased in argyle TPU. Other two were the dark one like yours, this time I got sick of trying to hide the argyle and people asking about the stupid pattern. I got clear so, "yes its frikin argyle! got a problem!?"
Waiting for the Realook screen protectors to be cut. no idea why it takes them so long to cut the right size. Realooks are by far the best screens...
Everything is temporary at this point...I'll buy nicer stuff once my 30 days are up.
I was fortunate enough to have a solid black non-patterned TPU case for my EVO that someone on this forum actually commissioned and was selling out of their garage essentially.
Check out tpu-cases.com. I bought an all black one there, shipped same day. Quality is nice, it's glossy, feels good in the hand for an 8$ case.
the 1.99 one I got from ebay is decent
Nice, never seen that site before. I'll order one up and hopefully it'll get here by the time I'm home from travel. Wish someone would make one like I had for my Evo though - it was matte on the back and shiny on the front.

Well I tried the Speck (or whatever it's called) case from AT&T and hated it...looked and felt like a toy.
Then I tried the Otterbox Impact (the smallest case they make). It's made of a type of rubber that sucks up all dust and won't let it go. It's pure black rubber but after putting it in my pocket and driving up to Starbucks to meet some friends...it looked gray. My pockets don't have any lint or anything in them...and yet the case now looks completely gray. I just put it on yesterday. It's also a bit big for my tastes...and the phone can easily come out of the bottom.
I'm going to try the cheapest cases on eBay. They always worked great for my Nexus 1 and most other phones I've used. The cheap thin rubber is fantastic for me. The phone's so freaking sexy...I just don't want to add a bunch of mass to it.

i like the feather as well. not much in terms of impact protection, but most of my scratches come from the phone vibrating on the desk over time and scuffing the battery door, so its a nice line of defense against that. also, its a little less slippery than the standard battery door which i like

I particular like the argyle tpu cases which give decent protection and feel. i have it for the ipad, galaxy tab, atrix, inspire, and xoom.
www.degasis.net offers these as well
I ordered my case from http://www.degasis.net/models/atrix.html (as the poster above recommended. $6.98 shipped
This is the best fitting TPU case I've had across all my devices. The best part is that it actually makes the on/off button easier to push and the finger scanner easier to operate (its cut at the perfect angle to compliment it). Its slightly different cut but a better fit than the pictures posted above.
I'll post pictures when I come across another camera some time today or tomorrow.
TPU is far superior to any other case material in my book. perfect balance of grip/non-stick, thinness, protection, and fit.

I have the speck and the incipio feather. The speck adds too much bulk to the phone but the case looks nice and protects the phone appropriate. The incipio feather is really nice but it cracks easily even without dropping the phone just by taking it off the phone several times....

I have the Speck case and am more than impressed with it. Although it does add a little size to the stock phone, the protection is more than worth it. Side by side with the otter box and this thing looks as thin as a poker chip. Also the back of the case does get scratched up but who cares, that's what cases are for! This case meets every one of my needs so to me there's no better case on the market right now.

I have this same issue with the Speck case, and its really frustrating. The way I do it is to turn it over, push the center of the case with both my thumbs (as if you're holding a sandwich/burger). Keep pressing it and flexing the sides until the back cover pops off partially (usually from the top of the phone), and then separate the phone from the case by slowly pulling on it from top to bottom.

Sigh.....
call me a fruit, but it pisses me off that Speck is only making making one color of the case
just purchased the Speck case today from AT&T
It fits perfectly, in my opinion it DOES NOT add very much bulk to the phone AT ALL. But I did just come off of the OtterBox Defender that is a big freakin case
Overall, the Speck to me, seems like a phenomenal case, fits well, doesn't add any weight or size to the phone that is unnecessary, and the all black gloss looks sleek
I compared the spec against the otterbox commuter the other day at AT&T store and went with the commuter for the same price. About the same bulk. Both the store employee and I struggled to remove the spec, which at least means it's secure, and it dang near broke my battery cover since it popped off and got stuck in the spec. If the spec were a lot cheaper or you didn't want to pop it off often it seems great but the 2 piece design of the commuter is pretty ideal.

i absolutely love my speck case. i take my phone out by just using one hand to kinda pull the lip away from the phone screen, and the other hand to push in the fingerprint scanner.
i wish it looked cooler, but for the protection it adds with not a lot of bulk (IMO at least, it's not that bad at all, i compared it to my friend's otterbox'd iphone and i much prefer my speck)
it is a pain in the arse to remove.. i push the phone out by the power button/fingerprint scanner, while simultaneously pulling back on the lip of the case.
it keeps your phone protected thats for damn sure --but I use the Incipie feather as my everyday ---- the sleekness of it is way better

Doesn't really protect you phone well I dropped mine on the concrete from 4 feet and the phone fell out the case useless case

the only thing i dont like about this case is the scratches that it gets on it. best way for me to get it off is left thumb in the camera hole right thumb in the bottom of the finger print scanner and fingers on the rubber edges on the front.
I think the case is good, better then decent drop protection but the scratches make me sad haha, honestly it was worth getting but I will be searching for a new one simply because I am picky and like different cases for different situations.

Incipio SILICRYLIC mini-review (T-Mobile US exclusive color)

Incipio SILICRYLIC in blue exclusively for T-Mobile USA.
The case is very, very nice. The soft material is very comfortable and a joy to grip. The plastic is also a great "soft" feeling material. I've jumped through 4 premium cases so far and this is by far the best one for what I want in a case. The only thing that stopped me from buying this in the 1st place, was the colors available on the Incipio site. The color of this one is more of a metallic teal than the blue that it looks in the pictures. I'd rather have the blue, but the teal is very attractive in person.
The case is $30 at T-Mobile (I snagged it for like $23). I would've payed the $30 though no problem. Cause I feel the case is way better than some that are priced higher.
The main thing about this case - It's easy to take off so I can swap batteries. This is a must for me as I've tried it with the speck case, the body glove dimensions and the case-mate barely there and this is by far the easiest to take off.
When it comes to protection, this is number 1 from the ones I've tried. And that includes the speck candy shell. The reason this beats the speck? Cause you seriously run a risk of cracking the gs3 screen while trying to remove it from the speck. And there should be no reason that a case, can make you risk breaking your phone while trying to do a simple task like removing it.
Some say "use a tool to remove the speck". Nah, I'll pass. If the 10 tools that I use daily for other jobs (fingers), can't remove the case, then the case is a p.o.s.
If the phone falls in this case, it has just as much of a survival rate as that of the candy shell, if not more... I have dropped phones from waist high with a Incipio feather on it and it didn't have a mark on it (gs2). I'm pretty sure that this case can do better. The candy shell, though it has a hard and soft material, is a lot less shock absorbing than this. The reason is the specks "soft material", isn't nearly as soft as this Incipio case. And for that reason alone, I feel there's a risk of less shock absorption with it than this case.. Drop a rock and a sponge and tell me which one does better...
Here's the pics.

How is the sides? Does the rubber lift up while handling it. Seems like it might with not much support along the sides. Also how are the button presses? Still crisp and "clicky" if you will?

Nah, it doesn't really "lift up". Of course where the volume buttons are it's a little "looser" than the rest. But it has less support. It's not a problem as it only "lifts up" when you try to make it "lift up".
I too have the Incipio "silicrylic" for my galaxy s3. Ebay order, about $25 IIRC. I went with the standard black and was pleased as well.
Echo the comments on the "soft" feeling texture of the case. It is a snug fit, but nothing that would damage the phone going on/off. Rubber comes up and around the sides for a ridge on the face (clear in your pics) I'd take some pics of mine but black is black lol...
All around a great case. I have this case and the vented Samsung (the one with the coin kickstand thing). I use this case daily.
The two layer approach, rubber + the shell really seems effective.
Oh, and fit around the buttons is excellent imho. I don't feel it takes any more effort or is any difficult at all with the rubber case over the buttons.
The screen protector they give you with it isn't that great though (imho). I've tried both ZAGG and Skinomi, plus the one that came with the Incipio. So far, I like Skinomi the best, but I ordered the ZAGG replacement because the store guy goofed the install...
Anyway man great review, I feel ya on giving it high marks. I like that case as well. Not a bad pick up for $25.
Biggest downside is you're covering up a fine looking phone!
how you get it for 23?
He might have use the coupon before it expired.
OP, does the plastic have a quality finish around the edges? Can you get a close up?
Thanks.

What coupon? I got a deal cause of a certain person. I'd like that coupon though if you have a link.
It's all quality.

There was a 30% coupon that expired on 6/30. You can't stack it with the 25% employee discount. Some did stack with the buy 2 get one free. No longer valid though.
Are the edges rounded and have a nice finish? I had it for my Amaze and the case was haggard. Sharp edges and they didn't have much attention to detail.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk 2
Yea, nah, I didn't use them but wish I would've known about those before they expired.
The edges are not jagged or anything. The whole case is smooth
These are cheaper on Amazon though than they are with the 20% off from Incipio.
Could I get a top shot of the plastic part of the case and a close up of the edges finish? If you don't mind. Thank you.

How a the grip? I'm sorta worried about the phone sliding out of my pocket while I'm sitting or when I go to stand up so I'm looking for a case that's got some texture to it maybe.

Ha, I'm looking for something that will slide in and out of my pocket easily. I have an Otter B. Commuter on my Atrix and I feel its a little too tacky...

The edges have enough silicone to stay in place. As long as you don't have super tight pants you're fine.
Anyone know where the Yellow/Grey case is exclusive to? Seems like different carriers may have gotten different colors?

I thought the yellow was available on the Incipio website. If not I saw a lot on ebay.

I have a black one on my gs3, and I would say the grip is good. It's "soft" and still has enough texture to be grippy. It shouldn't slide out of your pants. I use it with dress pants (think suit pants) at work everyday. No issue.
The texture of the outer shell is actually different than the inner rubber. Shell is more soft and smooth, while the inner rubber is soft and tacky. Top, bottom, and button covers are left as rubber, while the outer basically covers the back and corners. Hope that helps.
Thanks for the review, I just picked one up from my local T-mobile store, they were giving me weird looks for being in there when I had AT&T
It looks and feels fantastic on my blue phone, contrary to the pictures the outlining is more of a dark grey in limited/low lighting situations, not the light grey that you see in some of the pictures.
I tried the black/black (local AT&T prime mobile has that and the black/yellow) and I found that on the blue phone the black diminished the overall look of the phone imo.
I would really like the dark grey outlining and possibly a light grey/black cover, seems like it would look good like that, but I'm happy with my purchase, thanks again!
Edit: I'll try to take some pictures to show what I mean, they should be up later

Incipio NGP case review

Hey everyone. I've not seen a review for the recently released Incipio NGP case on XDA (or anywhere else for that matter), so being the lukewarm Incipio fan and all-around case junkie that I am, I thought I'd fill everyone in. Let's get right into it; here's my review.
I've had spotty luck in the past with Incipio brand cases. The cases I had when I was an iPhone user some years back were always pretty mediocre, however the Incipio Frequency case, with it's semi-rigid construction, was one of my favorite cases for the HTC One. Though the Frequency line isn't available for the Nexus 5, I was hoping lightning would strike twice with their NGP line.

As you can see, I went with the matte black. Though very light, the case itself is a hair bulkier than I had hoped, however I'm a big fan of the finish. It feels similar to the back of a naked Nexus, albeit with a very, very slight rubber feel to it that gives it a little better grip while eliminating the stickiness of standard TPU. It also attracts zero fingerprints, and that's a huge plus in my book. There's also no added elements to the case that aren't already present on the Nexus - no added chamfered edges, the edges are unnecessarily squared-off, etc. It profiles the phone nicely and let's the design of the Nexus make the statement.
In addition to having a lay-on-the-table design, the cutouts are also big enough to accommodate any size cable you can probably throw at it - another plus. Also, in the past I've had...I don't know, "strings" (I guess you could call them that) that hung around the cutouts as if they weren't cut neatly. However I'm happy to say the fit and finish on this case is top notch.
The buttons are another story. They feel nice enough, but the problem here is two fold. One being that there is almost zero feedback from the buttons when pressed and two is that the buttons are so sensitive that almost the slightest tough will have you accidentally hitting the power button or changing the volume...or both! Did you know that if you press the volume buttons and the power button at the same time, you'll log a bug report? I didn't, but this case taught me otherwise. The buttons are so touchy, that I've since had to disable developer options so the reports stop happening. *sigh*
One last thing, and it's easily my biggest gripe with the case. As you can (hopefully) see, the lip over the edge of the phone is raised just enough for dust and other crap to get underneath...and it's like this all the way around. This may not be a big deal if you're phone never goes into your pocket or if you live in a completely sterile environment, but in real-world application, it makes this case a dirt collector. That is to say the edges near the lip will always have dust, lint, dirt, or any number of other particulates scattered around near the edges whenever they come out of a pocket. Removing the case will reveal more dirt underneath. This sounds like it should be a small gripe, but it's actually really annoying.
It sucks because I want to love this case. I want this case to be the "right" case, but for all the things this case does right, it gets the buttons wrong and it gets the the lip around the edge wrong, and in my case (no pun intended), those two things are deal-breakers. On to the next one I suppose...
But then I'm the anal sort and I realize these things may not matter to everyone. It provides great protection in a relatively slim profile and it does look quite fetching, so if you are interested in purchasing the Incipio NGP case, you can find it here and only here for the time being.
Thanks for reading! Any questions, feel free to ask.
Nice review! I have this case along with a few others and it's probably my favorite. I also have the Google bumper case, Spigen slim armor and the Incipio two piece case I can't think of the name of. The NGP has the best feel out of all of them.

That button issue is a dealbreaker. What are you thoughts on the sensitivity?
They are a little stuff at first but after a week or so of using it, I haven't found that they are a problem. The feel of the case really sets it apart from the other cases I've used. I had as many as 10 cases but now I'm down to five.

Think you meant stiff? That stands in contrast to the OP's finding of overly sensitive buttons, if I'm understanding you correctly. So, you're not accidentally hitting the power button while the phone is in your pocket or while being tossed about?
Damn you autocorrect! LOL. Yes I meant stiff. I don't find them to be overly sensitive at all. I haven't experienced the power button pressing while in my pocket.

Now the Incipio Dual Pro buttons are real sensitive but it's one of those two piece case and that inner layer is soft silicon stuff.

The buttons are stiff, but they do break in a bit over a few days. As far as overly sensitive...it's not that the phone will turn on in your pocket – they're not that sensitive – but you need to be careful about how you hold the phone at times. However, if you grab it in such a way where you make light contact with all the buttons at once, then you may run into the problem I did.
That said, I am coming from an HTC One, and my muscle memory still has me trained that the power button is at the top – not on the side, and that the volume keys are flush with the phone and take some force to press (with a case on). In time it may be a non-issue, but I did accidentally log 4 or 5 bug reports in a 20 minute span, so there's that.
This morning I talked with a rep for Incipio and told them about my overly-sensitive button issue. They said that in my particular case the buttons may be a production error, so they're shipping me out a new one. I'll report back when I get it.

I had the Incipio NGP case for my Evo LTE. It was my favorite compared to the diztronic TPU. I currently have the diztronic TPU on my N5, but I may look into getting the Incipio. What I like about the incipio is that it is a little thicker offering more shock protection, and it is matte all the way around. I don't like the gloss finish on the front edges on the diztronic. That last picture showing that it doesn't fit flush against the screen kinda bothers me though. Anyone else have that issue?
