[Q] Stopping update notification - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

When the latest E4GT update came out, there were several comments about "locking" the phone via Titanium or something else to make the notifications go away. I'm running a custom ROM on it so the update just fails everytime.
I can't seem to find those threads _OR_ I can't seem to find the exact instructions on how to lock out the update. I have Titanium Pro but don't see the setting. I am sure I'm just an idiot and will gladly accept someone pointing that out to me if you can help...
thanks.

[Q] Clock Widget Problem or Suggestion

So in response to the new OTA being rolled out, I wanted to do an update on my phone. But unfortunately after doing some reinstallations of crapware in order to make sure everything was verified, I realized that I had modified my HtcClockWidget.apk.
Now I can't really update with this new OTA because it won't accept any clock widget that I try to use. The stock widget that some people post might be the one before a patch onto it or something. So I don't really know what to do now.
Also, I don't recall making a nandroid backup before modifying the apk. (Whoops.) So I don't really wanna roll back to the beginning or so. Does anyone have any suggestions or links to get things fixed or should I just reset my phone and work around things again? Or, screw the update all together and just install a custom rom to my phone? (But I'm okay with the current stock rom/firmware.)

[Q] Could somebody explain this?

I'm stock rooted with something like 110 apps frozen with TB. I had not upgraded to MA6 simply because I didn't feel like going through the brain damage of re-freezing the 110 apps. Freezing that many apps for all intents and purposes gave me a custom ROM based on how I use the phone. Many of the apps were replaced with apps from the Google store that I liked much better than what Samsung and Sprint thought I needed and worked for me. BTW, Touch Wiz is gone, replaced with a third party launcher.
Anyway, I got the upgrade notification this morning and my inference from this thread was that if I let it try to upgrade and fail that I wouldn't get the nag about the upgrade. I had read the instructions regarding Freeza's modified MA6 for rooted phones and had even downloaded the zip file. To make a long story short, CMW 6.0.2.3 asked a couple of questions one of which was did I want to keep root? I answered yes to both and lo and behold I'm now on JB 4.1.2 and MB1. Why was I able to apply the OTA update to a rooted phone? I did not wipe cache or Dalvik cache. Everything seems to be normal and I'm sitting here asking, "What happened?" Everything that I've read says this wasn't supposed to happen.
Additionally, does anybody know what the Sprint Hotspot file name is? I have TrevE's Mod. Does it need the Sprint app to work?
If on stock recovery the OTA will go through. You could have also just installed the modem from the ROM. It also sounds like you might prefer CyanogenMod since you have everything frozen and have a launcher running.

The thing is, no one really knows why this happens. For some the OTA flashed fine with a custom recovery installed (like for you), but then for many others as well, it failed with a status 7 error. I have no idea myself why this would happen, you would think that there would be something in common among those who failed to apply it or among those who were successful, but it doesnt seem like theres anything in the overlap region, which is really strange. People were able to flash it while on stock rooted with custom recovery, others who were on stock rooted with stock recovery had to ODIN back to pure stock to apply. So like you can see, its just a really strange fluke it seems, and I dont think anyone really knows the answer

[Q] Synergy Rom Help

Hi guys, I have some noobish questions for you. After reading around and searching, I just cant seem to find an answer.
I installed Synergy Rom with Ktoonsez kernel yesterday and while the Rom and kernel have been one of the best set ups I have ever used on my GS3 (Tmobile) I have two issues.
1. I have very little data. It comes, it goes. If any, the signal is extremely weak. Am I supposed to flash a radio, is this safe, I have never done this before so i'm not sure.
2. When installing the rom, I opted to use the stock android messenger vs the touchwiz one. I am having some issues sending MMS messages and was wondering if there was a fix for this somewhere or if it required a reflash.
I posted in here because I figured it is not a rom related issue, yet just me not knowing how to address these problems.
Any help is appreciated!
-------------------
Edit: I believe I may have just figured something out. I realized I had a sprint recovery on my phone, so when installing the rom I believe that the installer thinks my phone is the sprint variant. Would this have anything to do with signal issues or MMS issues for that matter. Before reinstalling everything I wanted to see if anybody knew if it would fix the problem. Like I said before, I do get signal, its just not extremely strong.

First, I recommend TWRP Recovery. You can obtain this by installing goo manager from the Play Store. To install, open goo manager, hit the menu key, select 'Install OpenRecoveryScript'. This will install TWRP recovery. Go into your recovery and make a NAND backup. Then wipe data/delvik/cache/system. Now, install Synergy and select Tmobile. Next, what I did, was did a full installation. Yes, this installs everything but you can use root browser (or some other root file manager) and fine tweak the ROM with what you do not want. I had a similar issue but I had NO data/signal/service...nothing. Hope this helps. Just in case, make sure you know how to flash back to stock, should something go wrong. Good luck!

I appreciate the help but I can not seem to get my phone to be recognized as a tmobile device. I do not see an option to select tmobile anywhere when flashing.
Thanks
For anybody else having this issue, I just found my problem...
I installed twrp to my device yet was still having the same issue. I realized that while I was installing twrp, the device was still reading as a sprint variant because I was on the flashed rom that detected my device that way in the first place. I flashed a recovery via odin specifically for my tmobile s3 and got right to where I needed to be. All issues fixed and rom is running perfectly! :good:

I had the same problem with my d2tmo with Slim and Syn. Both use a single rom for both AT&T and T-Mobile since the devices are very similar. I had to use Build.Prop Editor to change the values in the build.prop file to change from AT&T to T-Mobile values. However doing so will cancel out OTA updates and will have to update manually. I ended up going back to CM 10.1 nightly builds (slim/syn is based off cm anyways) and changed my LCD density in the build.prop and added a majority of the mods Slim/Syn uses.

[q] help with nandroid issues

Please forgive me if this is in the wrong spot or if I broke some forum rule, I have never posted here but I have read a ton, thanks for all the help you guys have posted by the way.
First off I am not by any means an expert on computers and rooting but I have a decent understanding of the basics and can easily follow online instructions to root. I obviously have a d2att, I recently rooted it. I was happy with it unrooted for nearly a year but when samsung released the 4.3 update my phone really started sucking. Eventually I decided to root just to get a rom that functions better. I have been running gummy rom kit kat, I think its the nightly from march 10th, I have had no real issues other than some random reboots here and there. My mom begged me to root her d2att because she also was tired of the buggy samsung 4.3 update. I eventually rooted hers, even though I really didn't want to, knowing that I would get calls about every little issue and I would have to run and fix it... anyway
She has had issues that I have not had, she says that her phone randomly turns to silent periodically and causes her to miss calls, and she also says her bluetooth is intermittent. I don't use blue tooth at all so I wouldn't know but I have not had an issue with randomly going to silent. I have tried a lot of custom roms over the past 2 months since I rooted, including CM11, CM10 (all of them), AOKP, slimroms, of course Gummy, and a variety of others. All of them have had some major bug that is unbearable, from not connecting to wifi or not sending and receiving MMS, except for gummy which I have only had the random reboots.
Okay, so when I rooted mine originally I made a nandroid copy of the original rom after I rooted it, I didn't realize but somehow this nandroid file created to my internal memory instead of my sd card, so when I loaded a custom rom it was deleted. Like I said I'm far from an expert and that was a huge mistake. So anyway when I rooted my moms (same phone) I made a nandroid of her stock rom after the root and saved it to my computer, tablet, flash drive, external hd... etc.
Now that she is having problems with the absolute best ROM that I have found functionality wise, I thought I would restore her stock rom and debloat it, try my best to get it running better. I used her nandroid back up and restored my phone to it, only to get a ton of errors, everything was force closing. I kept getting the popups that "unfortunately ... has stopped" they were nonstop. Literally all I could do was hit ok and try to do the same with the next window, finally I get rid of those and the phone wouldn't run any apps or make any calls etc. So I rebooted to recovery and went restored my nandroid that I made earlier that day and all is fine with my phone again.
So here is my questions. First off when I made the nandroid of her stock rom I renamed the file STOCKROM, that way I would def know what it is and to not delete it. Will renaming a nandroid file make it not work correctly?
Also would a nandroid back up of her phone simply not work correctly on mine? I thought it would but it def does not. Maybe there is saved data that doesn't match my sim card.. I have no clue.
If I used this nandroid on her phone do you think it will work corretly?
If I messed up the file be renaming it, does anyone have a backup for stock that I can possibly use?
Last but not least, any recommendations for custom roms for d2att? I really just want speed, and no bugs
I am really sorry about the excessively long post, but I wanted to fill in the background info before I asked my questions, in case it was needed. Any help at all will be greatly appreciated.
Again please forgive me if I broke a forum rule or posted in the wrong spot, I don't typically post on any forums ever, I just tend to read the posts of others. THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY AND ALL HELP, GREATLY APPRECIATED.

If you decide to go back to stock 4.3, this thread should help. AT&T I747 UCUEMJB Stock Restore
I've never had to use a nandroid and definitely have not tried one on a phone different from where it was made, but from reading in the past I don't believe that renaming it is causing the problem. I believe it is probably due to either trying it on a different phone or the file structure may have been changed when you moved it to the pc. Hopefully someone more experienced will chime in regarding the nandroid on your phone. If it is still on her phone I think it may work.
thanks

Thanks for the tips. I know its still on her phone and the name hasnt been altered. I wanted ti try a debloated touch wiz for her. I havr liked Gummy but loaded a carbon jelly beam tonight. So far so good. Any suggestions for custom ROMs for attd2? I have had a time finding one bthats useful. I'm glad I have my gummy on nandroid. When I finish screwing around for her that's where I'll head back to I'm sure. Unless I find a sweet bug free ROM through a reccomendation. I'll check the link in the AM thanks for the reply.

[ROM] Intergalactic v4.1 [AllianceRom][UCUEMJB][4.3][1/8/2014]
question
You MUST have the UCUEMJB or UCUEMJ2 bootloader and the UCUEMJB modem installed before proceeding or this ROM will not work properly. Your data and wifi may be broken if you do not do this first. These are available here: Bootloader and Modem Options

Quick question. I have only rooted and flashed cm toms and aokp. I haven't done anything specifically to change my boatloadsoor kernel. I really don't have the knowledge absolute that. The first step says what's listed above. What does this mean? Can you help? Thanks for the time and tips.

Regardless of which ROM freshly installed I get "process com.google. etc..." errors

Regardless of which ROM freshly installed I get "process com.google. etc..." errors
Before I provide more details if needed I just wanted to check the first thing that I should which I'm clueless of. But so far its been a few ROM's. The latest were a couple stock ones and before that, the last time I was regularly using this phone a few years ago I believe it was an ASOP(did I get that right?) ROM. Are there a few common sources I can check for problems that might solve this? The messages seem to just pop up whenever and they are all different but usually start with process com.google then something else. Just need a point in the right direction as when I google these the only general solutions I found were to clean a variety of caches, apps and I've tried clearing dalvik and regular cache from TWRP but that never helped. So any ideas would be appreciated. Also for some reason can't install apk's. Play store works tho. I get that 'error parsing' error. Not sure if related.Trying to set this phone up as a backup phone.
Though I do not know the answer to your problems I would like to suggest you move your thread to Q&A or General because you will not get any answers in the section you posted in...A mod Might move it but if not you definitely should...Just word of advice that's all

Thanks. Actually its been solved. For the moment at least. I think for my latest reinstallation actually. Don't know why it ever gets these issues. I guess I'm afraid to accept that it could be hardware somehow which would be more difficult to solve than software. Well anyway, hopefully it stays this way
