I recently attempted to root my SGS2 but I mistakenly installed firmware from the i9100 instead of the version I had, the SPH-D710, also known as the Epic Touch 4g. ( I was unaware there were three versions of the SGS2).
Odin failed, and all my subsequent efforts to flash proper firmware got as far as the LAST file (hidden.img) and then failed, too. I'm guessing it was a driver issue or a cable issue or something.
In desperation I started looking around the forums for any way to salvage this, and ended up going down a few fruitless tangents, but I did find out about the jig method of resetting the flash counter.
I booted into download mode and realized that the flash counter is actually zero - it says that I have an official binary loaded.
With that said, will Samsung / Sprint honor my warranty under these conditions? I have heard that people have gotten replacement phones even when they successfully flash custom firmware to their phones via the jig reset, so I'm feeling pretty confident they will.

Worth noting its actually way beyond 3. i9100 international, then you have the Epic 4G Touch, AT&T has the Skyrocket and then they have another one that is just a GS2 but its not the international. Then you have T-Mobiles variant all of these so far are different phones. Canada has 3, Mexico has an LTE variant, The Caribbean and then I even heard Japan has one. Oh and dont let me forget about the 3 south korean ones. I thought it was just 4 at first.
Just do a warranty exchange at a sprint store say nothing and hope for the best.
So I'm in the clear? That's certainly a relief.

I wouldnt say that. Assuming nothing else appears out of place the warranty exchange may work just fine. Doesnt mean it will. Most of us running root phones with custom roms have a download screen that says exactly the same thing. When the phone turns on it says a whole different story. If the phone wont boot and nothing else is out of place you will probably get away with it. From the sound of it you have had a bit more luck than others though in trying to get the phone to normal.
Just remember in the future any phone sprint carries if its available on any other carrier its not the same phone. Sprint is the only CDMA carrier that uses WiMax and until the LTE switch they have no chance of carrying anywhere near compatible 4G hardware with Verizon. International phones are usually GSM/HSPA and the sort and the hardware is different.
It is a YMMV, but you have a good chance of being ok with normal techs. You could always run into the one stickler though and all bets are off.

will this version be different from the U.S. version (considering the U.S. will get the HSPA+ version) ? im using an imported one on tmo.. you will get 3g hspa plus just foine.. depending on coverage of course. also you will get updates as well. dont worry works 100 percent

My Imported Tmo phone works just fine on AT&T (just changed my APN settings is all)
You will be able to root it just fine. There's no way to tell now whether or not the US version will be different (or how) because it doesn't exist right now

$800?! Mine was $690 shipped from the UK...and it came 31 hours after I ordered it (no joke). Just order from Handtec.
Also, don't worry about "bricking" the phone. If you start messing with it, you will eventually brick it, no matter what phone it is. It's part of the learning process. I've had 13 Android devices (two of which were not originally running Android), and I've worked on a bunch more.....I'm not sure it's possible to TRULY brick an Android phone. I came close once, and it took a perfect storm of a bootlooping, non-charging phone, and a near-dead battery.
If no one hasnt read, US Cellular is finally get a variant to this phone, except they are calling it just Galaxy S2. Really contemplating on getting this phone, I just wanted to ask anyone who is knoweldgeable if I get this phone, can I root it and load CWM and stuff on it from your ROMS? or would I have to wait until one comes out specifically for my phone even though they are both CDMA and the specs are the same from what i see.

Its hard to say man without seeing the phone. There could be very minor differences that would not let a Rom be able to flash for that phone. It would be very easy for someone to port the Roms over especially since they are both CDMA

im considering buying a samsung galaxy s3 for verizon, but i need to know if its possible to flash it to sprint and if so, how to flash it.
ive seen different posts and different websites saying u can go to sprint and ask them to activate it... i doubt that will ever work. i just want to know the steps to flashing the phone from verizon to sprint (maybe like a software or a set of steps?) --- before i buy the phone...
if anyone can help id really appreciate it.

I haven't seen this done yet, may be easier to just but a Sprint one.
Your issue will be the radios Verizon goes off a different bandwidth. And unless you get the developer edition, you have to deal with the locked boot loader bs.

Can anyone help me figure out what i am doing wrong to get 3G and MMS working???????

I have voice and text so i have done snnn repair already can make call from boost number send text ...
when i have the sim in sometimes i can get 1X but never 3G..

How did you get voice and text? I have 3g but no voice or text which is really crazy
will never have lte service
correct me if i'm wrong but i've been reading that the LTE from at&t version and sprint aren't compatible so that would lead me to think that a verizon phone on sprint would never have LTE

I see Sprint to Verizon but not Verizon to Sprint but its got to work. Like he said he's done 4 already. Just the settings are missing for sprint.
so here is the joke i call the galaxy s3 from hell cause the numerous head aches ive gotten. its says no to every ROM you put on. an also the fact that it refuses to go back to t999 an beliefs that that is a galaxy s3 from metro pcs. now i need to sell it an it needs to go back too t mobile software but Odin has not work since it registers the phone as t999n instead of t999. a little history how i got the phone i bought the phone like this from a real fat ass i told him i did not want it flash or rooted ill do it my self but fat **** did it anyway. now Im stock an don't now what to i need to put back to t mobile's software but the phone is register with a imei from a Nokia 3310 confused:idk how he did that) an it says t999n as model number and on the base band an on the model version. but when you get to back of the an open it up its t mobile an the original imie is t mobile so im pleading to any one who now's how to fix this problem HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:crying:
No one will be able to help with the imei I'm afraid. Its illegal to change it. Chances are it was stolen and blacklisted, so he changed/cloned it so he could sell and make a huge profit. Who knows how it got to be that way with the firmware though. I'm guessing it has a T999N motherboard. You can't just put T999N firmware on a T999. It doesn't work that way and would cause it to brick. Plus the hardware between the two is different, so even if it didn't brick, it just wouldn't work.
So the most likely scenario here is it was a T999 and had a T999N mobo put in. I just don't see any other way it could work as you've described it.
This isn't a bad thing though. (Well, the imei part is), but the T999N is a more recent model and is LTE capable. The T999 does not have LTE.
I'd flash it back to stock T999N firmware. (I'm assuming it will flash that in Odin, right?) Then sell it as a T999N. In general, you could get more for it that way. But you really should be honest about the imei situation and I can't really say how that will affect it's price. Probably not much, but you never know... the big thing with changing an imei though, is it can often decrease the devices capabilities. In many instances it tries to reject it and can cause all sorts of problems, but you seem to have been lucky as far as that goes. Hey here's an update thanks for the help again I Install stock ROM too it but no didn't do anything I still cant update my android os an it says my device is custom after installing stock ROM with Odin but thanks anyway

You need to go back into stock recovery and factory reset. After that you should be able to update it, or just flash the latest firmware with Odin
hey xda family long time no see, im just curious to see if anyone knows about this. i went to best buy to update my unlocked att note 4 since im on metro pcs and can't get the update because im on different carrier. when i went to the desk and told the guy what i wanted to do, he said no problem and i handed him my phone. when he plugged it up he had asked if it was an unlocked device and i said yes, he then asked if i had att i said no im on metro. he then said unfortunately because of best buys policy that he can't update my phone because i wasn't on att which didn't make any sense because i did the same thing with my last note 4 that unfortunately got watered damaged. apparently somebody with an unlocked t mobile phone tried to update through best and it hard bricked his phone, which is odd to me because the only way you could HARD brick your phone is unless he had the exynos note 4 or he had tried to install official software on a modified device which is a big no no. he kept telling me that because im on metro pcs i'd have to go to odin and reflash my note 4 back to att which made no sense because it's still an att phone it's just on a different carrier. i do know as long as you install the right firmware for your device in this case an update file thats exclusively for sm-n910a devices. what gives did i run into a clueless rep? im thinking of going to another best buy and just taking out the sim card and play stupid when they bring up the word unlocked. sorry for the long paragraph folks

Most of those reps are clueless.
Your phone is an AT&T version and is running AT&T firmware. Just tell them that it's an AT&T phone. Don't mention that you're using an unlocked device on Metro. I think you may have confused him by telling him that. He may have thought your Note 4 was a Metro version and running Metro firmware. They only have AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile firmware. They may have international too, but not sure. He probably was afraid to flash AT&T firmware onto what he thought was a Metro phone.
Again... clueless. I went there once and the idiots refused to work on my phone (needed to be reflashed and I couldn't get Odin to work) because I was using Nova Launcher. The guy said it wasn't Samsung's home screen and that I had hacked the phone to change it. Well, first, the 910a isn't rootable, and second, a launcher has nothing to do with root.

So you have a N910a unlocked on Metro PCS and you wanted to have the software updated to the latest? And you brought it into a Best Buy store to have them update the software? (sorry, your post is hard to read in a big block form like that).
May I ask: have you thought to try the update yourself? Even if you pulled the SIM card and connected via Wifi...

You need an AT&T sim card in order to get the update OTA. That, or the Odin files. Are the latest Odin files uploaded? If so, then that'd be the easiest (DIY) solution here. Make sure to back up your files though.

thank you all for your input, i managed to get the latest firmware through another best buy that was within reasonable driving distance. however, i still think att sucks for not allowing the bootloader to be unlocked and for being slow with marshmallow it's ridiculous. if att had the image files posted somewhere i wouldn't mind doing it myself.

That is not cool. Call Samsung on them. I wasn't even questioned either time. Samsung referred me to the samsung experience at Best Buy in the first place.
