My first post on xda.
Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube (444K sized file will do just fine)
Copy the file and paste shortcut in Start Menu> Programs
The next step is very important.
Goto:Settings >Connections>Connections>Advanced Tab: Select Network button: Change bottom drop down to Media Net. Both drop downs should be Media Net.
Thats it.

Hi,
I did as you stated but my YouTube program does not launch from within the start menu, it just stays highlighted when I click on it.
I did a soft reset and nothing changed.
It works if I go to Tools > File Explorer > Windows > YouTube 444K and click on the file.
Any one else had this problem and know how to fix it ?
Thanks
It works for me, but it take forever to connect and sometimes just end up ERROR can not play. I spend more time watching the 'connecting' on the screen than the video I want to watch.
The only YouTube file that works for my Tilt2 was downloaded from google mobile- by using the MS IE, not Opera. The only issue (minor) i get is when i select a video file- it will go into landscape opposite the native landscape of the Tilt2. not a biggie. However, it works fine when using ''changescreen" app (enabled).

i am having the same issue. it highlights but doesnt activate the program.
if you go to the exe file in fileexplorer and then press and hold the exe file, a screen will popup with the options to "send shortcut to programs" hope this helps
I feel pretty silly...
I was able to find the YouTube files on my phone. I copied them over to "Program Files" (which, as I've read here, isn't the way to go about it) So I deleted the files I copied over to there. Problem is, it deleted both the "copies" and the original files :/
How can I retrieve the Tilt 2's version of the YouTube application without completely wiping out my phone?
Thanks for any and all help.
no sound on youtube app
I was able to copy the shortcut over and when I double click on it the client works but there is no sound. What gives?

You don't paste it to the menu directly, you have to paste it in /Windows/start menu/programs directory on your phone
Youtube app in start menu
i had the same problem puttin the Youtube app that comes with the Tilt 2 on the start menu and actually getting it to work, but after a whole day of messin with the settings, i finally got it on the start menu, and workin!
first what i did was
opened the file explorer<windows
from here you will sort by name so it appears from a to z(only if u need to because mine showed from z to a)
then you will scroll down to the Youtube folder, click and hold down to copy.
after you copy it you will paste it under the program files (my device<program files)
after that you will need to copy the actuall app and add it to the start menu.
the app will be found under the my device<windows: scroll very closely to the bottom of the list to find the app, click on the one that says 25b. click and hold on it then copy it and paste it under the start menu folder at the top of the windows<programs.
now when you click your start menu there should be the youtube app and should work. i have only tested it under my wifi settings at the house but it should work on 3g.
GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!
and if you want to rearrange the start menu, i recommened downloading the JWMD-Icon-Changer at:
pocketpc-freeware.net/jwmd-icon-changer-get-12511.html
i downloaded it fomr my pc and sync my phone to my pc after saving the app and draggin and droppin it into my phones file explorer and then installed it from there.
we already had it on the stock rom? I downloaded it from google mobile with google maps :X...anyways, no probs with the way I did it...idk
thanx vic1307, your method worked perfectly!

Any reason we don't cut and Paste, instead of copying...doubling the file?
You can't "paste" into the start menu folder....you can't paste into any folder that is already full, because there is no empty space that you can place your cursor on and hold to get menu to pop up.
If you try it ends up clicking on an item in the folder, because there are no empty spots to click on in the folder..
This is one thing that really annoys me with wm6.5....thank the idiot that designed this feature.
ok, I just cut everything out of the start up menu file, and pasted the youtube file into the blank folder, then pasted everything else back into the start up menu.
annoying, but affective. Deleted Google's youtube. Like the stock look one much better. ;D
Post #8!!! That is your answer!!!! Do NOT COPY the exe file to the start menu!! Either copy the YouTube.lnk file to the start menu, or send the exe file to the start menu as a short cut. Also, if you are using the native file explorer, then you may not see the .lnk or .exe file extensions to know the difference.
You should see the files in this order:
*at$t rom*
YouTube.exe (with YT icon) 458k
YouTube.exe.0409 (windows icon) 10.9k
YouTube.lnk (YT icon) 25b <-- file size should be another clue it is just a short cut.
You want a copy of the .lnk file in the start menu.
There are two YouTube apps, one is an HTC app that is hidden on the phone, the other is Google's and it has to be downloaded. I like the HTC app better myself btw.
Hi all!
I have a motorola Defy running on stock rom. Did an update through motorola software update to 2.51.1 Retail en CEE.
After the update it kept all my settings, apps, etc.
One thing though, did not test Motorola Phone Portal before the update, but it seems to work kinda strange for me (I am connecting through wifi on 192.168.1.144:8080):
1. If I click a recent photo in the home tab, a 404 page not found error appears. Can view photos only from photos tab.
2. Clicking on File Manager tab does not load at all. Have to enter the manager by clicking the link in the Photos tab (manager). I am using IE8.
3. I can`t rename, or paste any file in https://192.168.1.114:8085/webfolder. I can only copy! If I try to rename I get a no access error or something like that.
4. After refreshing the webfolder from explorer, all my folders look like they have appended my google username (ex: dcim becomes dcimusername, audio becomes audiousername). If I double click a folder I get a folder not found error.
Is this phone portal the same to you, or something is wrong with my phone?
PS: another strange thing: I created a games folder on my homescreen. Every time I restart the phone, the folder renames to default name, folder. I have to rename it to games everytime.
Managed to figure it out. I disabled Secure login, and it works flawless now!
The only downside is that it`s not asking for a password anymore. No worry though, I use it only on my private network!
Hi! Have a problem when trying to open files from gmail.
When try to open a mp3 for example, it does the download, and then shows "This file cannot be opened with System Player".
If i try a second time, the message is the same but it doesnt takes any time, i suppose the file is somewhere in sd or internal.. but i cannot find it.
I use ginger villain 2.2
Thanks!
Not sure if this will help but there's an app called Gsaver (there are other's as well). When you hit "Preview" it will ask you what to open it with, choose Gsaver and it will ask where to download the file. I'm not sure if it's been fixed in the newest Gmail release but it doesn't allow you to save attachment files.
i had similar problem, all i did was delete the Gmail app and download the latest from the market...hope it helps

RockPlayer"
I see the problem was it was trying to open with rockplayer... why is not the "standard" player from android?
No idea?
Thanks!
UPDATE:
Yes, it is possible! Here is how:
1. Create a html file, for example bookmark.html
2. Put this file in a folder in the internal storage, for example: \Download\bookmark.html
3. Open the browser and set the homepage to Other and fill in this:
file:///sdcard/Download/bookmark.html
4. Kill the browser process, make sure you open a fresh new web browser session.
The bookmark.html will be loaded

Hi,
Is it possible to set the browser homepage to a local html file?
I saw we can set the homepage to "Other ", but I don't know how to do it.
If this is possible, I would like to create something like shortcuts of websites in local html for quick access.

Browser doesn't appear to like local html files for some reason. I just tried to open on via root explorer but it isn't a listed option. Also as I'm sure you've already tried, trying to link via browser only just searches google for whatever you type in.

Homescreen Link
Now, were you able to put a bookmark on your home screen? I have the link set up to open my spreadsheet in my browser (thanks everyone for the directions), but when I put the link on my homepage it tries to open as a PDF rather than sending the XLSX to quickoffice? Any ideas?

I'm not sure why, I could never download zips or large files to this phone. My last phone, The HTC Hero, was able to do this with no problem. Any ideas ?
using opera mobile I can download any zips. although if you are in a place with crappy 3g it might fail and you would have to do it again. when I can I download mine over wifi
install androzip and then try
You need a app associated with the file type to download. There is a app called download all files or something that will associate with all file types in order to download.
Download astro file manager from the market. open astro, hit the file manager button then the menu button and click on Preferences then scroll down to enable browser download, just click enable and youre good to go
Thank you the Astro fix seems to work.
