ever since i put the new CM7 on my wifes phone all her contacts are showing up 4 times each...how to i get it so its only one?
Go in to gmail then into contacts, and there is an option to merge duplicates,
Also make sure u go into contacts and only show Google contacts, you can export all phone contacts import them into Google contacts, then merge dups.
I like being able to manage my contacts on the internet if needed

including your post, if you have duplicate entries from facebook that have different names but still are the same person, you can join them by manually editing the contacts, press the menu key once you are editing that contact, and then press join. if there is a match close enough, it will suggest it to you. if not, go through the contact list that comes up and link that person.

Scroll the the bottom of the first post in this thread. There you'll find the Sprint voice mail apk.

Thank you for that! Any ideas on the facebook?
Also, are there any other kernels besides snap that work with cyanogen? I can't seem to find a stable setup.
for facebook pictures: http://www.appbrain.com/app/com.nloko.android.syncmypix
free app that works well
facebook and twitter are syncing with contacts in cm6 now, not sure about the contact pictures. i haven't really tested it out.
contacts sync works in cm6...works fine on mine. works the best if you do first and last names in your contacts, it makes it earier for the facebook program to match the contacts

Do you have facebook contacts appearing in your contacts, and linking with regular contacts?
If for some reason a contact is using a different image than facebook, open that contact and scroll to the area of the contact with the facebook data, if you click on the picture from facebook it will prompt you to use that image
Anyway to link contacts. Every time I use a CM Rom, I end up with 600 contacts most of them doubles. One being a FB contact and the other being the actual contact stored in the Google Cloud. I love the roms, but this is very upsetting.
Yes you can link your Facebook contacts. First go into your Facebook app, hit menu and you should be able to sync Facebook.contacts.
From there, go to your contacts, select a contact, hit menu to edit contact, and you should see an option to 'join' - this will let you link your contact to their Facebook profile. Also, after linking the contact, you can choose to use their Facebook photo or leave it on their default photo if you have one.assigned.

Thanks man. That worked like a charm!
I am coming from a Vibrant so am not all that familiar with Vanilla android, is there any way to get contacts to sync with Facebook? I liked how on the Vibrant I could link all my phone contacts with their facebook accounts so there photos would be updated, also have quick access to their fb pages, but mostly for throwing in all their pictures. I see you can add FB friends into contacts on the phone but I dont see a way to link the FB friends contact info with their phone number? Is there any way to link them? I dont want to have two seperate contacts (one for phone number and one for FB) for each person in my "contacts" tab.
Thanks
When I first opened the Facebook app, it asked if I wanted to sync all friends to contacts, sync information to existing contacts, or skip syncing.
I chose to sync with existing contacts and it only added pictures and Facebook links to the contacts.

In that case... go to Contacts :ress and hold contact's name::: > EDIT CONTACT > then Press MENU > JOIN.
you should see a list of suggested names from your facebook contacts.....
If the one you want isn't listed there.... try changing either first name or last name or both... (you dont have to save) and then press MENU > JOIN .... again.... and it should come up...

Anyone using launcher pro, i notice that even though it syncs with facebook and puts the pics in the contacts tab, it doesnt put the contact into the contact picture when you edit the contact so as a result, doesnt put it into the "people" widget

Hello Frnds,
Recently I rooted my phone as I wanted to remove my stock SMS app due to missing functions as described in my previous post and also to remove the stock contact app as there is no provision to add birthday. After rooting, I removed these two apps and some of unwanted apps provided by SE. I installed new phonebook app and Handcent SMS app and I was happy unless I needed to add a new contact to my phonebook. When I click on add new contact , it showed me an error message saying application not found to handle this. When I again reinstalled the removed Contacts app back and click on add new contact from my new phonebook app, it opened the add new contact page of the Contacts app i.e. without Birthday entry. I was so annoyed to see that I landed up on the same path from where I had started.. Can anyone tell me how can I chagne the default link so that I can use the Add Contact funtion of new app Phonebook and not of the Contacts app.
Most of such replacement apps, especially messaging ones, need to work along with the corresponding default one. As far as I know, only GO SMS can work individually, but again, it's not recommended to uninstall such vital system apps because they are deeply integrated in stock ROM.

Thanks for ur reply.. But as u must know that there is not provision to add birthdate in the stock contacts app and even if I add some other app from market which has provision to add birthday and click on add new contact, it again opens the same stock contacts app's add contact page...

That last part is the third-party app's issue.
See, there are three elements in a Contacts app: the dialer, the contact list and the contact viewer.
Some apps include only the first two, thus when you open a contact, stock app (and more specifically InfiniteView) appears.
As for birthdays, if you sync your contacts with Facebook inside Xperia, you'll get them.
Or you could add a note to each contact with their birthday.
This is coming from a TouchWiz-based ROM.
1. The AOSP calendar is nice and slick looking, but I can't point and hold a calendar entry and drag it to a new time slot. I HAVE to click edit and manually edit in the new time, meaning you lose visibility of your other appointments.
How do I get the TouchWiz calendar on this AOSP rom, or is there any calendar you can recommend? I would LOVE to get the TouchWiz version of Calendar on the Nexus. I can't drag entries with AOSP calendar. The only other calendar app that can do this is Business Calendar, and here's what it looks like:
This is what a typical day looks like:
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/8hfObdeEkVj9SV2NQMYs4tD9pFGyYEySeJ2XOt5Mynk?feat=directlink
Look at the entry for 11:30AM - 12:30PM! It's completely, utterly hidden.
2. "Send Contact Information" seems to be missing. I can't press and hold on a person's number and click "Send Contact Information" to automatically text it to someone with the person's name already filled out. I can only copy the number, then I have to manually click on text, then press and hold to paste, then type in the person's name, and click send.
I'm using Google Voice so this is now a moot point
3. Why doesn't the color coding of my calendar entries match the color coding on my actual desktop Google Calendar?
fixed
4. The stock dailer in TouchWiz is superior to AOSP since I can directly text through the dialer as well.
work-around found
5. Stock calculator in TouchWiz is better since it shows history. This can easily be fixed with another calculator app though.
not a big deal
The big thing for me is the calendar. When you have to manage and shuffle around 20-some entries in a single day, the AOSP Calendar is absolutely un-usable. I need to at least be able to drag and slide around entries. Tried Jorte, aCalendar, Business Calendar. Still can't drag and drop entries.
You can surely text thru the stock dialer, just click the text button.
The calendar doesn't have drag and drop. But I love using the calendar in tablet mode.
Is this thread a Q&A or a rant?
1. True, you cannot. Check the play store. There are 100s of calendars.
2. Not via sms. You can share using many other methods. Just choose a contact, then menu>share.
3. Mine matches up fine on all of my devices.
4. You definitely can. Click on their thumbnail and the contact window will pop up. Or you can click the number and press the "text message" icon on the right.
5. As you said, there are many other options in the play store.

Response in bold.
Another thing:
When I click on any of the contacts it starts to automatically dial them. I would like to click on a contact, view the contact (so that I can share it, copy the number, add in new info, etc), and then if I choose, dial it. Why does it start dialing automatically?
TouchWiz doesn't do this. It actually first goes to a view contact page when you click on the contacts icon through the dialer.

I didn't know you were talking about from the dial pad, but isn't it just as easy to open the messaging app and adding the number there? You can text through the history tab though.
I can't really help you with touchwiz-esque replacements from the play store because I haven't used touchwiz before.
I know you probably have a habit of doing things a certain way; we all do. Perhaps the answer to a few of your issues is learning a new way to go about certain tasks. If not, maybe the Nexus isn't for you, which is fine.
My advice would be to try a bunch of different replacement apps in the play store. Hopefully you will find ones that suit your needs.

This bothered me as well at first till I figured it out. First go into Google calendar on a pc, and set everything to the colors you want (no idea if this can be done thru the phone)
Go to the calender menu and select 'calenders to display' and at the bottom of the list of calendars press the button 'calenders to sync' and make sure everything you want to sync is checked and oress ok.
Go back and select the calenders you want to display in the app, they should have the color coding right next to the names.
Hope this was what you were talking about and that it helps you..

Just press on the picture of the contact (not the name/number) on the left and a pop up will show you the rest of their info. Click on the big picture in the pop up to go to the people app where you can share, edit, etc.

I understand that there's a bias towards the way "things were always done." But in the calendar's case, say that you need to swap two entries.
Entry 1 at 1PM and Entry 2 at 5:30PM. These need to have their times swapped with each other.
In TouchWiz this can be accomplished with two swipes.
In AOSP this needs 10 or more taps, going in and out of the calendar view and the edit entry view, and for you to remember that you need to put Entry 1 at 5:30 (not 4:30, not 6:30), etc.
This is simply a matter of a horrible user interface and user experience.
Is it possible to get the TouchWiz calendar on this device?
Touchwiz is a skin on top, you can try go launcher with is other goodies like go contacts and more.
You can also try the touchwiz ux port search for it. Think its on market too.

I wish it were that easy. The main concern is the calendar. It's more than just a skin.
I want my SGS3 to sync my Facebook contacts, but I do NOT want the non-linked contacts to show up in my contacts list. With my old HTC Amaze, there was a way to select which contacts list you wanted to show up despite what you were syncing. Anyway to do this?
Thanks
i think its the facebook app that is messed up, every time i click sync current contacts only it syns all of them, retarded.
Go in to Contacts, hit menu, then "Contacts to Display" and uncheck Facebook I have trouble with contacts as well, especially with Facebook. I heard it was because now Facebook does not allow apps and stuff grabbing people's avatar.
---------- Post added at 04:33 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:47 PM ----------
Additionally, if you want to edit the contacts linked to your Google account, I just found out you can go to https://www.google.com/contacts/ I had to do this because Facebook synced a bunch of empty contacts to my account along with random emails and stuff I had to delete. Hope this helps!
Try going into your facebook app click on the menu button this will bring up your settings option, click, then scroll down to the bottom where you will see sync contacts, click, in here you will see which contacts from facebook you can chose to sync. Hope this helps.
