[Q] problem with gbtweak - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1416470
So I have a unlocked rooted r800x, have followed the directions
When the rom first came out i got the build prop 7 error, now with the more recent nandroid backup it says during recovery that it can't find the system and data so it skips it.
Anyone have any ideas? I would have posted this in the dev forums but my post count doesn't allow it.

Do you have cdma r800x? Did u flash dooms kernal? Did u unpack(unrar) the file u downloaded on your pc and then place the folder labeled 2012-01-06.21.28.31 into your sd/clockworkmod/backup folder on your phone? Did you clear data and cache before restoring?
Let me know and I'll try to help ya.

trouble with nandroid
i kinda have the same problem, but when i go into my phone/card to find /sd/clockworkmod/backup the clockworkmod folder doesnt contain more than "download, .salted_hash, .settings" so I can't really go past the installation of GBTweaked and its .21.28.31 folder, any help? the sooner the better, thanks!

Have u created a backup thru clockwork yet? When u go into recovery and select backup/restore, and choose backup, it will create a backup folder on your card inside clockwork. Also, You can put in the dowloads folder or just create a backups folder.

I actually worked it out myself, but thanks. All I did was manually create a folder named backup in the cwm folder, flashed and everything is great. Cept I'm still searching for a working link to Doom's wifi modules :/

I think it needs a kernel if you don't search for blue bot an install that.

Open and browse recovery images?

So, I've made a backup of my ROM previously before through ClockworkMod Recovery. What I was wondering, is there a way to open/browse these on one's PC? I've tried various software (WinRAR, DaemonTools, etc.) and can't open/browse it. Does anybody know of a way I can browse one of the recovery images?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Backups are images of your rom and I don't think there is a tool for opening those types of images I could be wrong..... you might go to Koush's website and ask him he created clockwork you can find him in twitter to
Sent from my ADR6300 using XDA App
Well I assume its similar to the way something like Acronis or Ghost works, as in imaging the entire system (in this case, each section [system, data, etc]). I'll look into getting a hold of him... thanks.
Reason I ask is because I would like to pull just a few files from my old backup image, and not necessarily restore the whole thing. I guess I could backup my current config, restore the old backup, take the files off that I need, and then restore back to my current image.. but that would take effort .
Sounds like something that could possibly be done with titanium backup?

Yea you might use your computers search tool to find something to opeen it click in and when it asks if you want to search the internet for a tool to open the file click yes....maybe you will get lucky

Can Titanium Backup open .img files created by ClockworkMod Recovery? I haven't seen a setting in there to be able to do that.

Well I've done that... I've tried MagicISO which is one of the more recommended programs to open .IMG files, but it fails to open the android backup .img. I guess I can research it a bit more...
You can copy the system and boot .img files from the backups folder and use dsixda's kitchen to import them. It will create a working folder that has the apk's etc in it. Not as easy as just copying them to the PC and browsing them but will do what you ask

The kitchen is I great tool to have I know you were looking for something easy but if you take the time to set it up its worth it..... follow nilsp link and checkit out...

You can use Titanium Backup Pro to extract the backup file. go to the main menue (i can do that by tapping the menue button of my Galaxy S2)...there choose Extract from Nandroid Backup....You will figure out the rest.
You can also use an app called Nandroid Browser....

[Q] HTC Evo 4G

Ok so I'm new to androids completly. Was looking to root my new phone. Let me start off by saying I'm in Japan and have the HTC Evo 4G. I was attempting to use unrevoked but seem to be stuck at how to get to the hboot. I just updated to 2.3.4 and when I power off my phone then hit volume down and power button to gain access to hboot it simply turns the phone back on. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Head over the the revolutionary.io site, you should be good to go. You have to use that method to root for gingerbread on the evo.
Check this thread for rooting.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1218386
And turn off fast boot in settings/applications and then try to boot into hboot I think thats where it is I'm not sure I haven't been on sense in a while I'm not even sure if a stock ROM has it but look there to boot into hboot.

disregard this post please
Take out the battery, put it back in, hold volume down + power key for 3-5 seconds to get into bootloader. Theres a youtube video, can't remember what its called, but it shows step by step on how to root through Revolutionary. Very easy. Took me like 5 min to root

the recovery should be a PC36IMG.zip you flash that in hboot just make sure its on the root of your sdcard not in any folders then when you go to hboot it will find the update just except it.
The su apk should be a flashable zip just boot to recovery and wipe cache and dalvik cache then go to flash zip and choose that zip and flash it then reboot.
If this is your first time in recovery before you do anything make a nandroid backup this will backup everything in case anything goes wrong you can restore the backup and your phone will be just the way it was when you made the backup.

Ok got it all figured out. To be honest you had me lost and I almost made another noob post but I got it now. Figured out the whole flash to SD card deal. I am 100% rooted now. Now for a ROM
I downloaded the synergy rom and it deleted my carrier email app. Do all roms do this?? I'll say it again here, I'm in japan so might be a little different from the states. Anybody know how I could get it back using this rom?? Or a good rom to use that won't delete this app.

What happens is when you flash a rom, its a whole new phone basically [os] so it comes packaged with its own apps, themes. What you can do is:
- go into recovery, backup your current rom
- restore your initial backup
- use / download es file explorer [free] from the market
- enable su permissions, then navigate to /system/app and copy it to your sd card
- go back to recovery, restore the synergy backup
- once booted, install the app from the sd card
or if it was backed up, open titanium backup, restore the app and data.
Thanks for the help teh roxxorz. I got the mail thing figured out. Worked with es file but didn't work to well with titanium backup. Took some trial and error to find all the files needed cuz the paste the whole folder didn't work. Having other issues finding the contacts and getting force closes, so I decided to just not use that rom. On to finding another good one that works.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
So I tried miui and that didn't work as well. Couldn't get the mail to work at all on that rom. Anybody happen to be in Japan and using this phone and could suggest a good rom to use that they have their au email and contacts moved over on, and have minimal issues?

have u checked the blobs folder internal and external sd card?
Which version of CM did you flash. If you flashed one of the nightly builds dated 12/17 and forward you may have flashed 10.1 which is JB 4.2.1. JB 4.2.1 modifies the directory layout to make way for multi-user support and puts the contents of your /sdcard/ folder to /sdcard/0/ which may cause your backups to not be recognized by CWM.
Before we can help we need to know which version you flashed. Thanks!
This is what happened to me.I just back to stock Via Odin, thanks though

If you have USB MTP functionality you can just connect it to your computer and manually move your CWM folder from /sdcard/0 to /sdcard/
Then simply boot to recovery and CWM should see your list of backups.

I'm on the same boat as the OP. I tried doing what you recommended but the darn files won't copy and it takes ages. I'm helpless. Hating CM10 for ruining my life lol.
Aww don't hate on cm, the new update is causing some pretty big problems, but keep in mind it is only 3 days old. give it some time. =)
There are a couple of possible solutions:
1.) Flash back to stock using ODIN and then reinstall a custom recovery/ROM.
2.) ADB push the backups to the correct folder.
Either option should work just fine. In the future I'd also recommend TWRP as your recovery manager. It has a built in file manager that saved me on this issue by allowing me to copy the data to the correct folders within the recovery module itself.

This is what I figured. However, the backup fails with message "Error while restoring /system".
Tried using CWM 6.0.0.0 (which version is equipped with cm10 stable?) and installing cm10 stable prior to restoring my cm10 backup. It still fails and now I don't know what to do next. Any advice is welcome!
EDIT1: BTW: I need to restore my CM10 to remove my 4*4 pattern... when installing CM10.1, 3*3 pattern must be entered, which I don't know, so I cannot unlock my own phone... :/
EDIT2: Hold on... I did not know about incremental backups and hence I did not copy the blobs folder (within clockworkmod folder)... I will do that now and expect the restore to succeed then.
EDIT3: this works fine, remember to not only copy the folder "backups" but also all the other stuff of the clockworkmod-folder. or make a symlink in /data/media to the old location. works fine.
Changed CWM location

1. Open terminal, become root by using command 'su'.
2. Enter the following command:
cp -Rv /data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup/[backup dir] /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
eg.:
cp -Rv /data/media/0/clockworkmod/backup/2012-12-12.12.00.44 /data/media/clockworkmod/backup
Reboot to recovery and select the 'backup and restore'. Now there will be another entry with your older backup. Restore it. Enjoy!

TWRP acting up

I was running CWM and decided to go back to TWRP for various reasons.
I used Goo Manager to flash the latest version. After flashing I went into recovery to make a backup of Wicked...then rebooted.
I then went to Rom Manager to see my backups....nothing there. Soooo I did another backup from Rom Manager.
After it rebooted I looked at my backups...still nothing.
So im back on CWM. Has anyone had this problem? Curious to know why its doing this.

ROM Manager is made by the same individual that made CWM. Makes sense they work together.
Not surprised ROM Manager can't see TWRP backups.

You just don't know how to use TWRP or CWM very well.
If you saw CWM and TWRP successfully backing up your rom then the problem
is that you don't know how to navigate in those recoveries and find the backups.
You need to get better acquainted with twrp and cwm, if you do you will find the backups.
Perhaps they are in a folder... (hint hint)..........
I am very familiar with both. There are NO backups in the TWRP folder. Also Rom Manager list your backups. Once again it shows no TWRP backups. And yes I had Rom Manager set up for TWRP

If you just want to find the nandroid backups, why not simply use Root Explorer, or another
file manager and find the backups, that way you will see exactly where they are located.
Once you find the backups, you can move or copy them to any other folder you like
and restore with CWM or TWRP.
If you cannot find the backups, it means that twrp and or cwm did not successfully create the backups.
Good luck!
I have Root Explorer. TWRP files are empty. Oh well im gonna hang in CWM till I figure this out. TY for ur help

(GUIDE)EFS/Emergency calls only/not registered with network- WHY, WHEN & HOW TO SOLVE
HI Mates, there are already a lot of comments posted about efs. But I think a detail need to talk about. Here we are:
# suddenly you find that your phone is not getting the network. When you try to make a call it says: not registered with network. Problem remains even after restock.
WHY & WHEN
usually it happens while you flash(sometimes dirty) roms often and/or
Switching from AOSP to AOKP to SAMMY vice versa. .
HOW TO SOLVE
as you are flashing roms, naturally you are rooted and you have a root explorer. Roms from 4.1 and later ones automatically creats a efs back up while you flashing a new one. When you found the disturbances, with a root explorer search for the folder "efs_Backup".
The location varies from rom to rom. You may find it under sdcard, may find under /data/media or somewhere else. After you find the folder
Open it
You will find several zip files created in different dates. Those dates are your rom flashed dates.
Choose the right dated one remembering when your phone was fine.
Extract the zip.
Go to /efs
Delete entire contents of the folder.
Go to the efs zip extracted folder.
Selct all and move them to the /efs folder.
Your phone is back as normal!
