FOTA updates and reverting back to stock rom - HTC Wildfire S

Hey guys
like some other people here, i tried the unofficial cm7 mod yesterday. But wasn't satisfied so i reverted back to the stock rom(used this one - RUU_Marvel_HTC_Asia_WWE_1.35.707.3_Radio_47.10_.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_188906_signed.exe)
However now i have android 2.3, and when i go to "Software Updates", it simply tells me that there are "no updates available for the phone". I am trying to get the update for 2.3.5, which add a lot of performance improvements.
Any ideas why do FOTA aren't working? Is it because i used htcdev.com, or because I used the HTC_Asia ROM while I should have used HTC_India one?
PS: It was my first time trying CM, and I found that I missed "Sense" too much. CM is great mod otherwise.

Why you went back to stock ROM ?
If you didn't like CM7, you could try some other ROM, there are few good ones.

Did you do a nand backup first? FOTA. IS lost as soon as you do Htcdev it says so on the disclaimer
Sent from my HTC Wildfire S using XDA App

Didn't do a NAND backup, unfortunately.
Do you guys think there's a way i can lock the phone again. And if that would enabled FOTA again.
I saw some roms that work on 2.3.5, and I am not worried about warranty or something. Just curious, and would like to have the orignal back with 2.3.5

I am in a similar situation... N BTW Indian ROM is NOT the same as the Asian one! I searched git days but couldn't find the Indian ROM!
Dude do you think it will be fine to flash the nand backup of someone else's phone on mine??
PS just a thought I haven't unlocked bootloader yet, but have flashed a European Rom n hope this won't void warrenty?

Related question: at what point are FOTA updates blocked, when you update the HBOOT (it says *** LOCKED (OOW) ***) or after you've finished the process at the htcdev website and actually achieved unlock?

But, with my presently unlocked bootloader, I can load any ROM I want so who cares, right?

yeah, i know the indian RUE is different from asian one. However i can't find the indian one anywhere. I don't think it's a significant difference though.
Anyway, is there a way I can revert to the stock hboot?
The 2.3.5 FOTA was so great; I regret not making a backup.

can't you just download the 2.3.5 RUU and extract the ROM.zip....that's how i got back to it. there's a tut somewhere on here for how to upgrade an s-on gsm phone to 2.3.5.....download that file and within it somewhere is ROM.zip.

Listen just a thought what if you used some other Indian guy's nandroid backup and restored it through CMW?
U would get back the official Indian ROM ryt?

[Q] Noob asking from cid, s-off, getting back to stock, etc.

Hello everybody!
I am relatively new One X owner and my previous handset was the famous HD2, so I used to be quite familiar with all the tweaks and mods. But now I have apparently stepped into a whole new world with a lot more complicated rules. There's talk about cid-numbers, nandroid backup, s-on/s-off, how you can't downgrade, etc. I tried to use the search, but I would like comprehensive answers to all my questions.
First thing first, what's a cid-number? I've read it has something to do with regions and operators, but how does this affect the device? Is this some kind hardware change or just software related? Is there even "international" versions available? Since I am ex HD2 user, the only difference between that device was the T-Mobile and international variat. Now it seems, there's a lot more different handsets available.
How does the cid-number affect the phone? Does these custom roms require specific cid-numbers? Can they be changed at all? What I've learned, my device cid-number is HTC__Y13. Does this mean something? And does it mean I can install for example the ARHD's newest Jelly Bean?
Talking about Jelly Bean, there has been talked about not being able to revert back to ICS? Why? Is actual physical changes made with the device, so it can't be downgraded? I never read people having such problems with the HD2. You could always revert back to older custom, or stock rom, if you wished to do so.
Then there's s-on and s-off. What does this mean exactly and how does it affect my device? I've already unlocked my bootloader, installed the custom boot and custom rom? Am I still somehow locked? I didn't even realize this has something meaningfull purpose.
I've probably already made my first mistake by not creating a nandroid backup. To clarify, I recently changed my stock rom to ARHD 9.7.0 and followed all the noobie instructions, but didn't realize that nandroid backup was somehow essential. Does this mean that I'm screwed somehow or is there a way to fully revert back to stock? Back in the HD2 era, you could have just downloaded the official stock rom and get your device back to stock. So what I'm asking, can I completely revert back to stock if I want for example send the device for repair?
And finally about the official updates. I've read a lot about not being able to update your rom, without reverting back to stock. Is this true and why would people want to do that? Doesn't the new custom roms include all the new improvements and upgrades? Why would people want to install custom rom, then revert back to stock to get the latest updates and then go back to custom? Maybe I've missed something?
Maybe these questions have been aswered a thousand times, in which case I would greatly appreciate, if somebody could point me to the right direction. If not, I would also appreciate, if you could answer any of my questions. It's not funny being in the dark.

hello, so: cid is region/operator number, for europe is htc__01 for example, and you can't change it while we don't have s-off, it's just a number that says to the ruu if it's the right version of phone or not, cid 11111111 is called supercid, and permit you to install every ruu in this world for this phone, but still we can't have it until we achieved s-off.
s-on/s-off are security on/security off, and except for few test devices, everybody have s-on when they buy a phone, and developers and hackers have to find a way to modify it to s-off, which will permit us to flash different hboot version, and downgrade, and change boot animations (the first one, not the second with animation, it's already moddable).
to return back to stock rom you have to relock your bootloader with fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot oem lock
and then download ruu version for your phone from here: http://htcruu.com/?dir=Endeavor
but you should download one with newer/the same hboot version and with your cidnum
to see hboot version just enter in bootloader and look to it there, for cidnum write this on cmd:
Code:
fastboot oem getvar cid
then enter in bootloader and launch .exe you downloaded and follow instructions, in some minutes you'll have completely stock rom! (but still no warranty, because you unlocked your bootloader, and when you relock it, it'll be written RELOCKED, instead of LOCKED when it's new).
flash jelly bean with new sense it's a risk now because it will flash also new hboot, that won't permit you to install previous rom or ruu, so you'll stay on jelly bean until somebody will do rom for this hboot! so i suggest you to wait some weeks and it will be official and more stable and better.
good luck in this new world
Thanks a lot! I guess there's different opinions about the warranty, because I have read that people have been able to fix their devices (under warranty), even after unlocked bootloader, if the device was returned to factory condition prior the repair. So warranty won't be voided completely and all the hardware issues are covered.
I've used app called "Cid Getter" and it gives me this line: [CID is:]: [HTC__Y13]. Is this my cid-number? If so, what is the right stock ruu for me?
HBOOT-1.12.0000 <------ I guess this is my hboot version?
In theory can the device be hacked , so the bootloader would say LOCKED, even if you unlocked it before? Or is this totally impossible?

y13 i think that it's europe, try to download normal europe no brand version, if you'll have problems try another one,
yes, 1.12.0000 is your hboot version, and it's not the newest so you can download the last ruu without problems
no it can't, but even if it would be possible, it'll be pointless because you gave a number to htc, and they know your imei adress, so even with LOCKED, they'll know... in some countries they don't make problem about, if it's a hardware fault, in others you'll have problem, i don't know just ask htc in your country if you'll need it
Yes I have the European version, since I live in Finland and it is part of Europe and the European Union. Here we don't have branded phones so I guess that doesn't cause any problems. Also the phone was not sim-locked. Could you post me a link to a correct RUU? Does the radio version matter somehow?
What comes to the warranty, I probably will have to see that if it comes to it. Hopefully there's no reason to send the device for repair.
And if I understood correctly, I shouldn't upgrade to ARHD Jelly Bean, because it's going to cause some troubles, if I want to revert back to stock?

what radio do you have? i don't know what's the difference, but i think there is a difference between mid-europa and north europa, so maybe there is something different.
about arhd jb you'll NOT BE ABLE to revert back to ics, so no ruu, neither other rom from xda, because they are done for other hboot as i know, so if you'll install it, you'll have it until someone will do something for this hboot
The radio version is 2.1204.135.20. I'm not sure, but I don't think there being a difference between Northern-European and Middle-European devices, at least what comes to the radio version.
So I guess I should stick with the current ICS ARHD 9.7.0 build for now... Thank you for your great help! :good:

CID isn't the only way to find out the RUU for your phone. If you'd done the right thing and checked your software build before rooting to make sure there is an RUU for your phone then you'd know which RUU is for you. For example:
If you were running 1.29.401.11 then RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_HTC_Europe_1.29.401.11_Radio_1.1204.105.14_release_260491_signed.exe would be the one for you

HTC ONE X dont get OTA With S-OFF and supercid

like the title said I just moved back to my stock nandroid backup (3.20.401.1) to use my waranty because crackling speakers I know there's now software version 3.20.401.3 I flashed stock recovery and everything and im now relocked bootloader and unrooted why when I use search for updates it can't find any ? what am I doin wrong ? does S-OFF with supercid device dont get ota's ?
thanks in advance
If you have super ID and S-OFF device, you can flash any firmware update AFAIK!
However, wait for others to reply!! No idea about OTA though... hmmm
thats really anoying to flash all the time ota zip (firmware.zip) to update my phone my ota worked before I moved to custom rom I was on 3.18 and got ota to 3.20 now it cannot find the 3.20.401.3 update how come ??
hope it can be fixed...
any ideas ? =(
I think ota updates are send by imei number, you will not recieve ota if you have custom roms. anyway the update contains no firmware upgrade so its practically useless.
So how everyone get the update and me not im all stock just bootloader is relocked and dont locked

Ask HTC
Just flash the latest firmware m8! But why do you want latest firmware? There are lot of posts which say wifi has become worse with the update...
Nwys it's your device, your choice! :good:
The last ota is not really a firmware update, it's more only a software update. Download the ota and flash it over the stock rom with a custom recovery.....done
It doesn't contain a new recovery, kernel or hboot upgrade, therefore its installable from a custom recovery.

could be a few reasons. Firstly if you have a branded phone then you won't get the ota until your carrier decides to release it. However as this ota isn't important they may not decide to release it. If you've got an unbranded device then you get it when HTC releases it for your cid so maybe they haven't released it for your cid yet. Be patient, the update has only very recently been released. It takes time for them to push it to every phone
EDIT: Just found this post. It says you can't recieve ota updates with super cid???

OMG! Since you've got your One X, all you are doing is complain complain complain I have seen many posts/topics started by you...
Please read the forum, you will get your answers. For getting the OTA, you only need stock ROM + Stock recovery, that's it! It doesn't matter whether your bootloader is locked or relocked.
There is no RUU available for 3.20 base! It keeps saying your phone is upto date because the update might not have rolled out for your region?!!
There is nothing new in the .3 update! Only minor software update! If you really want that update then lol here's the way:
1. Unlock bootloader.
2. Flash custom recovery
3. Flash the OTA (Download from the ota thread)
4. Reboot!

Questions Questions Questions questions questions!
You have an S-Off Hox you're one of the very few people who does! Stop complaining about every little problem.
No offence but I've seen you posting for every little problem on Dev threads and it shouldn't be allowed as some are bordering on ridiculous! 99% of your questions have already been answered elsewhere!
Just think yourself very lucky that you have an S-Off Hox as most people don't.
You do realise it's easier to brick a phone with S-Off? Once you've done that you're screwed so be careful with what you're doing and I suggest you read up on things a LOT more or you'll end up ruining your phone!

Dude relax
Some phones just come as s-off out of the factory, or are s-off after repair.
Why would they come with S-OFF ?
That's kind of not fair, and how do the S-FF it when repairing, any way for us on S-ON to gain S-OFF that way ?

I don't know the exact details but basically HTC repair centres have the right tools to S-Off a phone. Unfortunately these aren't made available to the public. Each repairer is issued one of these tools with a unique code/id so they can't be leaked out. Otherwise the person leaking them would easily be known and it's bye bye job. That's why it's so difficult to get S-Off and the Hox probably never will get it now.

If it is a true developer edition, you might try backing up, running one of the Developer Edition RUU's to get back to 100% stock, and then see if you can get the OTA update. If this was a conversion, make sure the CID/MID are correct (which requires S-off).

InsertCoin is a custom ROM and not stock. So you need to return to a stock ROM to install OTA.

yes i have twrp-2.8.1.0 installed. demo roms are those roms like in shops they have demo phones with playing demo videos again again in it. this rom is only supporting 2G. i used this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2735235 and copied the odexted zip to twrp. it runs successfully but after that phone is in same old condition. is it true that the odexted rom is not installing because im S_ON??
and tell me if i S_OFF will i get ota updates with the odexted rom? sunshine needs 25$. well havnt tried firewater on this demo rom. and bro the link u sent is not working.

Don't know where you obtained that info, but its false. S-off is not needed to install any ROMs.
If the phone is a demo unit, you should have stated that right away in your top post. On a previous HTC device (One X) I believe the demo unit was very difficult, if not impossible to make fully functioning. But no idea if the same is true for the M8 demo unit you have.

Sounds like you just got some random advice, with an unknown link and flashed it. Why on earth would you do such a thing? Stick to XDA, at least here you can go by reputation (number of thanks, Recongnized Contibutor, or Recognized Dev titles).

As I just said in my last response, you do not need S-off to flash any ROMs. If you want help, you need to start actually paying attention to the help that is being given to you. You are also making it very hard to help you, by not giving enough info, and just leaking it out little by little.
You say you can't flash any other ROMs, but that isn't enough information. What happens when you try to flash? Does it fail with an error message? Or flash successful, but doesn't boot? What other ROMs have you tried?
If you want to return to stock to receive OTAs, you will need to find and flash the appropriate nandroid and stock recovery for our CID. Stock backup collection can be found sticky at the top of the General section. There are also various guides on how to return to stock, if you need them just search.

Need help updating phone... H3G User.

Im on the same version of Android since i got the phone, the bootloader is unlocked with S-ON and it has been working fine since i got it. I heard 5.1 had been released, is there a H3G RUU for the new version or can i use the Europeon one.. my CID Num is H3G__001.
Because i am rooted it says it cant check for updates, can anyone tell me what i can do?
I thought about restoring the original software RUU and then updating, but what if my service provider hasnt released the update, unless their is another H3G M9 user on the forum who can tell me different.
Thanks.

Your best bet is to S-OFF, then Super CID. After you have done that just restore the newest WWE RUU. That way you're on the latest version and can continue to receive any new updates a lot sooner - none of that waiting for the network to release the update. Especially with marshmallow round the corner.

Other than the way you stated not really. If you don't want to go S-OFF then you'll need to restore stock and update, then root again.
Hey there buddy.
What the chance you backed up your stock H3G recovery.
I flashed TWRP and forgot to take a backup, now can't flash the update.
I posted in this forum asking in anyone had the UK H3G stock recovery but no answers.
Cheers.

Need help with Stagefright OS patch

Hello XDA :x
I know the thread title is very vague but i had no clue what to put there, sorry about that :x
I'm terrible at talking, but I hope you guys understand what I'm saying /:
A week ago, I downloaded the latest snapshot of CM12.1, with intentions of using it instead of stock htc rom.
(The CM download is not very relevant to my problem but I thought I should give a background to how I arrived to my current situation)
So I flashed latest TWRP, ***<foolishly forgot to make a nandroid backup>*** and tried flashing CM12.1 snapshot and it didnt work. I tried other CM variants, and MaximusHD but nothing worked. So I just sat there with no OS.
Luckily (not really), I had a nandroid backup from a month or two ago because I used to frequently flash ROMs. The nandroid backup was 4.16.401.10, and my current OS (before trying to install - and according to my bootloader) is 4.16.401.13
I had no choice but to restore the previous version, which is Lollipop 5.0.1 without stagefright update.
Things became confusing... my OS version according to Software Information is 4.16.401.10, and the OS on bootloader still was .13
I've attempted all of the following:
1) OTA through phone itself: It downloads the update, then says the files are corrupt (no matter how many times I try)
2) This one is too obvious, but i tried it anyway -> the official RUU of .10 didnt work
3) Flashing firmware.zip from the .13 update using RUU feature in fastboot
Nothing has worked. I'm still .13 on bootloader, and .10 while the phone is on. And the software status is modified.
Please help me get my actual OS back to .13, things are getting really frustrating
HTC ONE M8
Unlocked
S-ON (currently cant afford S-OFF)
HTC__J15
Stop worrying so much about that stagefright patch. They did put out a patch but didn't solve it exactly with that patch.
Just stay on .10 and wait a bit longer for newer updates. You are not missing much to nothing at all !

Im not worried about the patch, its just that I might be selling my phone soon and if I do, the guy isnt exactly familiar with ROMs and the bootloader; and I dont wanna be a jerk haha.
Also, aren't updates incremental? Like, step-by-step as in you go from .10 to .13, you cant jump over an update?
Also,thanks for replying
Well you can get a stock .13 backup here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3086860
Restore that one and flash back the stock recovery also. Then it's stock as the backup has never been rooted before.
