Ok i have a quick question as to whether or not this cable will work with our galaxy S2 on my Samsung TV? I'm pretty sure it will and would just like to confirm with someone who knows 100% for sure. Thanks in advance.

That looks like the exact one I have and it works ..... running Jugs and faux .07b
(but you have to have a power source plugged into the adapter, normal charger or usb works fine)

You mean I need to have it plugged into the charger when I use it or connected to the TV?

Yes , or it will not work, the phone does not supply enough power for the HDMI , not sure if that is normal or just this adapter ...

I bought one of these: HERE
It doesn't work, so I'm wondering if any one has experience with this cable, it says it's an OTG but I get no power from it.
Does anyone have any ideas?
I tried to plug in several things like my PS3 controller and a HDD but nothing.
I'm wondering if the pin that is supposed to be shorted to ground is on the mini end and not the micro end like we want it to be.
Otherwise I wonder if I I can modify it work rather than send it back?

I lol'd at these two getting owned
But anyway I built my own usingthis and a usb extension. Followed this instructions. So my guess is that the cable you have doesn't have the 5th pin (brown wire) grounded. I butchered a regular micro usb cable just to find out it didn't have the brown wire at all.
Hope this helps!

This is my guess also, but the eBay guy as you can see clearly sells it as an OTG cable. I have been in touch and he says his supplier says it's an OTG but he doesn't have the technical expertise to understand, let alone advise.
I guess the solution is as you say, I went to the workshop, and even tried the local electronics store and it seems you can't buy the micro-usb plug as an individual component so butchering other stuff seems to be the solution.
As for the tutorial, thanks, but I shouldn't need it, otherwise I should probably send back the certificate for my degree in Electronic Engineering that's on my wall, cause I really wouldn't have earned it

Well, the iGo is no good, because they probably don't have the data lines connected, as it's for charging.
The one in your next post on eBay won't fit if it's an CA-157 substitute, I got hte real Nokia CA-157 and the connector is squared off at the end, picture: HERE
however, I did get a file to the end of my CA-157 and filed it to fit, and YES it works (taking a picture now)..... attached.
The cable you linked to on ebay is just a micro usb to a mini usb, an OTG cable is a Micro male to USB female.
4 bucks free shipping: Ebay
Spend 4 more dollars and get one with a cool blinky LED in it:

This ist a very good information and now I have the same cable as you working perfectly for me! In the first place I ordered the cable in the believe it would fit anyways but after receiving it yesterday I had to face the fact that there is an A and B standard of the micro usb plug. Your tip has saved me money, thanks for that!

No problem. I have this and the cable from my OP now working too. I opened it up and found the ID pin was not connected so I soldered it to ground and that works now. SO I have a direct cable for my HDD and a female USB (the filed Ca-157) for other stuff.

No, it is not possible at least in its stock configuration with stock rom. I tested this last night with my Xbox360 controller and my koolpad qi charger. As soon as the OTG cable is inserted, wireless charging ceases.
I'm assuming there's a good reason why it functions like this.

Ah ok, thanks for the answer even though it wasn't what i hoped for
I guess it needs a kernel hack to so for, and it disable charging for security reasons since OTG host is also power supply.
Guess Nexus might not be what i'm looking for unless i use some wireless storage solution.
On my nexus 4 when I connect it to my TV using a slimport cable to HDMI, I can still place it on my wireless charging orb and it chargers wirelessly.. Weird that the n7 doesn't follow the same behavior... I am going to test it to make sure...

I'm not sure how the SlimPort/HDMI works, but i think the difference is that the phone act as power supply when you use OTG. I looked at the kernel for Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 and Nexus 7 a long time ago, and could see the source switched the power from "pull" to "push" when OTG was connected, and could be possible to hack the kernel, but i never dared to try because of the risk there might be doing so. I'm far from an expert when it comes to stuff like that, so better not to mess around too much
Anyway, i hoped there might have been a chance with wireless charge, since it's different "connector", so maybe the kernel wouldn't turn off charge when OTG connected, but seems like it does.

That would be my guess too, whenever the USB port gives or receives power (or thinks it's doing either), wireless charging is turned off, probably to prevent overvoltage or short circuiting the battery.
Qi charger most likey can't give enough current to the device while it has a USB otg attached.
any update on this question? same behavior for me with @bruce2728 rom and with Glitch kernel. can't seem to find a way to use USB otg + charging....

I've read comments from people with other phones that say it does charge their phones but I couldn't get it to do anything with my ONE. Now I did read somewhere that while it is plugged in the USB device is powered by the adapter and not the ONE so you can save some battery life but I haven't done any tests to verify or deny that theory.
Did you use the pc to charge or ac adapter?
Sent from my HTC6500LVW using Tapatalk
i think it's used to power the usb device. and it's very useful for device which doesn't support otg natively like nexus4
OK I can confirm that it does charge the device, just not mine, it charges the RAZR M, it will charge the one in recovery and when its off. But the storage doesn't show in recovery. When I have it plugged in while its on the OTG works and when I unplug it from the phone, it says its charging via USB. I'm no dev so I have no idea how I would get this to work.
Charging will work in recovery but not in boot as the phone will be picked as an otg device
Does anybody know of an MHL to HDMI adapter that works with the Galaxy Tab S? I have one for my wife's Galaxy SIII that outputs video but does not charge the Galaxy Tab S 8.4 that I have - it recognizes power but has the little no charging symbol over the battery. Just curious if anyone knows of an adapter that does both, displays video and charges the Tab S?
Thanks.

Hi,
I have the "official" Samsung MHL to HDMI adapter that I bought for my Galaxy S3. This adapter works also with my Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Tab S.
IIRC, you have to plug things in that order for it to work :
- Power to the MHL adapter
- HDMI to the TV
- HDMI to the MHL adapter
- MHL to the Android device
At least, that's how I'm doing it and it works... HDMI is displayed AND the tab is charged. I tried with the charging adapter that came with the Tab S.
Hope this helps.
BTW, my adapter looks like this one :
http://www.amazon.ca/Samsung-EPL-3F...70718&sr=8-1&keywords=samsung+s3+hdmi+adapter
I have a Fosmon adapter that does not work. Tried it your suggested way and nothing appears on the screen. You don't need to activate anything on the tab, do you?
I need this for next week. I wonder how fast amazon can get that one you use out to me.

You need to use one specific for Samsung. Their pinout is different and a normal MHL adapter will not work on Samsung hardware.

No, it worked the first time I tried without having to change any setting or launch any app.
Well I guess I'll have to try the adapter that dcoulombe referenced on Amazon. The adapter I have is the Cirago version but I guess the adapter I have just doesn't pass along enough power to the tablet to actually charge it. It works fine otherwise, as in it outputs to the TV fine, just doesn't charge the tablet. I'm guessing the Samsung version must pass along more power through the adapter to the tablet.
Thanks for the feedback everyone.

Have you ever found fully working adapter/cable? I've tried these two:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LL1LD1C/
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ESM3UVC/
and none of them works. First one does mirroring but only at 24Hz refresh rate but does not charge. 2nd one is not working at all, it does not charge Tab S (it does for S3) and no video output but maybe I got defective one.
if Sammy is changing the standard setup for a reason then i would like to know what that is. if its to sell their own stuff for profit then lets see the stuff???
since the Tab Pro release there has been NO updated adapters by Sammy and their website clearly does not show compatibility for most of this stuff past the S3
weird and i like most of you have bought many things to find half work as good enough for now at best

No problem. Any chance you could test to see if it streams and charges simultaneously? That seems to be the problem with a lot of these MHL adapters they will play video no problem but often not charge at the same time which makes the battery drain insanely fast.

i dont think you will find something to fully charge and video out. you will find charge at 1amp but that will just prolong your use but eventually run the battery out and you need to find video out with 2amp charge combined with Tab ability to recognize it which i do not believe you will find.

I have a s3 with broken display so, i would like to use it as media center...
If i buy an adapter with HDMI and otg powered by a power supply
Can i connect HDMI , otg and at the same time charging the phone??
Or i need a dock??
I saw in a video of a guy with the dock the phone was charging...
It's possibile??
Thanks
You need a dock for this. As long as you run the stock rom with stock kernel there is mhl support and everything should work. But i'll get such an adapter today so i can tell you.

Not a bad idea for my current S3 once my M8 charging port comes in and I have time to replace it. could even make a little pocket for the S3 to sit in on the TV using some fiberglass or something.
