[REQ] Stock rooted EL29 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I know that we have a stock rooted EL29 rom out there, but hear me out. I am hoping for a stock rooted ROM with fixed Gallery bug, since I can't seem to figure out how to get it working. The bug I am referring to is when TW on stock is simply does not allow you to have scrollable wallpaper. It is an issue to me since I use TW4.5 launcher. Every custom rom based on EL29 has this issue resolved, so I know it is possible.
I appreciate all of the work the devs do for us, but most roms are not my cup of tea as they make visual changes or adjust auto brightness levels to improve battery life, which make screen really dark and dull to me.

We heard you out but now hear us out ... post in the right section, thank you.

sigh, I am sorry, I thought I was in General

What gallery bug?

One where you are unable to set a custom wallpaper without breaking the scrolling homescreen feature of it. So like every screen will have the same wallpaper, not the scrollable version .

I believe Calkulin has resolved this issue in his ROM. Pull the gallery3D.apk from his ROM and push it to system/apps. Or you can simply use a different launcher, I think this is TW specific. I haven't seen it on any of the third party launchers.

Yea, no el26 or 29 based custom rom has is, but stock ones do. I wonder if doing what you say will fix it? I just like tw4.5 launcher, that's why I'm bummed.

Help with GingerBread Launcher

This may be kind of stupid... =/
But
Can someone help me get a Gingerbread launcher as fast as the one from the Ultimate Droid Rom...
I would keep the Ultimate Droid Rom one except it keeps force closing on me
And by fast I mean when I click the launcher it snaps open my apps
With other 2.3 launchers when I click the launcher it takes its time lol
I'm currently using this CM7 stock GB Launcher ( http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/topic/...uncher-cm7-gb-mod-30/page__unlockUserAgent__1 )
Any help?? Sorry and thanks =/
So you're saying that the launcher is too slow to load coming back from an app or switching orientations?
What's your clock speed at? how many widgets/etc. do you have on your homescreen?
It really comes down to how taxing loading the homscreen is and what else your phone is doing when loading the screen.
I'm running CM7 with the stock GB launcher and there are delays sometimes after being in an app for a long time, but that occurs with any launcher. I see generally extremely great performance.

No u got my question wrong lol sorry if u didn't understand but what I mean is the time it takes to get from your home screen to ur app drawer when u click the app drawer button... if u used Ultimate Droid Rom it gets to the apps in a snap but with CM7 it takes its little time -_- lol

OH. Hmm. Like I said CM7 with the stock GB launcher going from the homescreen to the app drawer is instant with no lag, and vice versa... Have you messed around with your transition speed and animations preferences at all that could have slowed it down?
CM7 doesn't use the stock launcher unless you install it, it uses an open source one, called ADW. The ADW launcher for me did have some slow downs going to the app drawer and back, and general sluggishness in different places.
Have you tried installing a stock launcher on CM7? Or even a different launcher like Launcher Pro?

I installed the stock CM7 GingerBread Launcher.... I know it doesn't have any lag! It works fine from me! I think my question is too confusing lol thanks for trying to help though =) I appreciate it!
I know exactly what you're talking about as i'm using a mish mash of UD and CM on my vibrant right now.
As far as mod'ing a stock GB laucher to act like UD's, you'd probably have to do some xml edits with it's transitions i'm guessing. I just use the laucher2apk from the UD rom, even though it gives me FC's sometimes i'm willing to work with it.
Same problem.
I know EXACTLY what you mean. I have the same problem with stock GB launcher on CM.
Launcher and App Drawer are snappy, usually ... but just every now and then, it takes AGES to get to the App Drawer.
I'm thinking this maybe has something to do with having too much apps, and App Drawer getting cut loose from memory????
Anyways, looking for a solution :'(

[Q] Any of the GOOD launchers work in ICS?

I need a launcher that is very customizable like ADW or GoLauncher. I tried both of them and for some reason they both had the same problem; when the screen rotates to landscape it jumps to the far right screen instead of staying on the screen I'm on.
Does anyone have any good launchers that are working properly on ICS? I also tried Nova launcher but its not customizable enough. I'm going to try launcher pro now and will report back if it works.
OK so I tried LauncherPro and same problem. This led me to investigate and I beleive I narrowed it down to the calendar widget. No matter what screen I'm on, when I rotate screen it automatically jumps to the screen with the calendar widget. Annoying...
you gotta give devs some time to adjust to the screen/ics etc. I would play around with the current flashable ones and wait for a major update that brings lots of customization options
ps have you tried adw ex?
I use adw ex.works flawlessly.I prefer stock though,its awesome!

I use zeam Launcher. No problems so far.

Go works fine.
Go has always been my first choice. However, now with the Gnex and having folders pop down from the Top of the screen has made accessing apps really difficult with one hand. Because of that one issue, I went to Adw Launcher. That works great too.
Been using ADW Ex since day 1. Working flawlessly
After using ADW it's impossible to go back to anything else....
Ultimately I'd like the stock ICS with rotation and that stupid Google search removed but until the mods on here have their bugs ironed out I’m using GO.
My only bad point on GO is scrollable widgets you have to pause your finger on them a sec then scroll. (Is there a setting in there to fix this?) I like the stock responsiveness where you can swing between screens and flick apps around instantly.

I started using it on day 2 . With only one home screen, one clock, one weather widget, a 5 icons dock and three folders, I'm done.
I'm using Nova launcher, it's stock with a very nice twist.
GO completely locked me up and caused reboots to the point that i had to reimage back to stock.

Another Vote for Nova
I really like the ICS experience, and Nova allows me to keep that with options (including backup via Titanium & homescreen rotation)

Yup, been using Nova since last night. Takes something good and makes it great.
I used LPP on my OG, DX, DX2, RAZR cuz no matter what I did the stock Moto launcher was always a bit laggy. I kept the modded Rosie on my TB cuz it looked lol. And Nowthe GNex ICS launcher was almost perfect to me until Nova came along

Caveat: This is by no means meant as a disrespect to the amazing devs behind ADW, LP and Go EX.
when I got my hands on the GN, i was hooked on to the Android 4.0 look and feel. Previously alternative launchers were needed because (a) Android used to be ugly and (b) stock widgets sucked.
All that has changed now. I cannot bring myself to use anything but the stock launcher. However, I WILL like it if (a) I can utilize the space occupied by the stupid Google widget - its not a widget at all but a shortcut, a complete waste of space and (b) homescreens would be increased from 5. All those wonderful widgets need more space.
I don't want to root, although I have a feeling CM9 will have what I am asking for. In the meantime, I am testing out Nova.

LE1 ICS Update- Scrolling wallpaper??

Did anyone else experience this after flashing the ics update? Is there any way to get it back? It just seems strange considering the ics updates/leaks from every other carrier do have the option to set a scrolling background on the home screen. Any insight would be appreciated
Sent from my SGH-T989 using XDA
In Touchwiz this happened on the maintenance update. They eliminated the scrolling wallpaper, which carried on to the official ICS T989 update. Even though all the ported ICS roms from other phones/carriers have scrolling wallpaper, the official T-Mobile ICS does not.
I've heard you can download launchers that support scrolling wallpaper (never tried myself), but I'm a Touchwiz fanboy, and it really bothers me that we don't have scrolling wallpaper.
I tried to google search a solution, which I found this:
OK if you are having issues resizing the wallpaper in the gallery that came with the new ICS leak then I've got a fix for you. I tried changing the code of the gallary3d apk in both ucle2 ics and 2.3.5 gingerbread with no success. So I found a gallary apk file on the net for android stripped the code made some minor tweaks installed and bam I could resize wallpaper again. OK let me give you some info you need to know...
First you will need the apk file from the link below. And you may want to download apex launcher from the market and here is why...
1. Using Apex launcher you have the ability to resize wallper and wallpaper scrolls again as you flip thru home screens. Apex launcher is a free download from the Google play store.
2. With stock touchwiz launcher that came on the phone after you install the apk file below you will have the ability to resize wallpaper only the scrolling wallpaper as you flip thru home screens still does not work in touchwiz and since I don't use touchwiz I'm not gonna try to make it cause touchwiz sucks anyway.
3. With go launcher, tw launcher, MX home and other launchers on the play store I have no idea. Untested on launchers other than those listed above. So try if you want and report if it works on other launchers if you want.
I have tested this on my skyrocket and it is working. Also tested it on my wife's Samsung INFUSE 4G running gingerbread and it fixed her wallpaper resizing issue to. Also fixes wallpaper scroll on the Infuse using touchwiz and go launchers but that was on the Infuse only. WALLPAPER SCROLL DOES NOT WORK USING TOUCHWIZ ON THE SKYROCKET WALLPAPER RESIZE ONLY UNLESS YOU USE APEX LAUNCHER. Just wanted to say that again so I don't get 1000 messages saying my wallpaper still won't scroll using stock launcher.
Now one more thing if you install the apk below like normal just open and install and you still have a problem resizing wallpaper then try this... you must be rooted and have an app installed that lets you get to the root folders. I use rom tool box lite free from Google play but you can use whatever root file explorer you choose. Open up root explorer find the apk you downloaded below and copy it. Then navigate to the system/app folder and paste it there. Use rom manager also free from Google play to fix permissions reboot and it should work. But try the regular install method first. As I said this is working for me on both the new ics leak on my skyrocket and on gingerbread on the Samsung infuse...
Thanks to xcraxydx for providing a couple of apks that I needed....

[Q] Customize JB Lockscreen (mod?)

I'm looking for a way to customize the Jelly Beans lockscreen to replace Google Now (the one on the "up" position on the slide ring) with the Phone app.
I've seen that some custom ROMs have this, but I'd rather not flash a custom ROM, I just want to flash a mod on top of stock 4.1.1.
I did search the forum, but couldn't find one.
Does anybody know of a good way to do this?
Thanks!
learn. diy. watch how rom devs implement those changes.

If you don't want to flash custom Rom, get this app called widget locker. Which is not only customizable, but also really functional!

Thank you for the tip. I looked into this Widget Locker app, and it seems to be great feature-wise. But according to reviews, it seems to have several issues on Jelly Beans (slow/lags, makes user unlock to take a call, high memory consumtion, among others).
Ideally, I'd like a modded JB lockscreen to flash on top of my stock JB 4.1.1. Since that is already implemented in several custom ROM's, I figured someone might have done a stand-alone lockscreen mod to flash just that.

currently we just can set the lockscreen wallpaper only. Even using the 3rd party launcher, we cannot set the wallpapers...
I really don't get this from amazon, this is 2014 , and we still cannot just customize the wallpaper ? ha ha

Vire launcher does not let you change wallpapers... You can change the theme and the background will change with it, but you can't change to custom backgrounds...
Unless someone else found a way to do so?

Buzz launcher offers full custom background support, and makes it feel more like an android device. Also, if you haven't already, get the playstore... None of this requires a root. Instructions are here:

Still better than the terrible stock Fire Launcher though... And all the launchers that DO support widgets are stuck with an UGLY plain black background! At the moment, buzz launcher is the best option, until someone either develops a new launcher, or updates an existing one to make the "background" to not be dependent on the system background, but rather be an image placed ON TOP of said background. This would in effect bypass the whole "No background" problem.

Once I installed the Google Launcher and playstore I didn't feel held back anymore from the phone and switched back to the Amazon Launcher. It's my preferred launcher now. I recommend everyone give it a true shot. I just wish they gave us an option out of the box as I feel more people would have tried it out then.
Default wallpaper is cool, i think its not necesary to change it

Launcher Lab
You can only use built in widgets but launcher lab works great and has many themes like themer, have been using it for a month with no forced closes.
Buzz has been the most stable for me themer crashed a lot I'm stock unlocked also glove box dock is really nice on here

You can change your background now if you have updated to version 4.6.1 You can choose from some wallpapers or your own photo. If not, then try Buzz Launcher, which is the only launcher that i've found so far that has a customizable background. Hope this helps!
I am using nova launcher prime 4.0.1 I think and I have wallpapers/widgets working.
Google Now launch lets you change wallpapers and most widgets seem to work fine.
