Nandroid bootloop issues

Flashed jboogie3's rom with froyo
Ran custom recovery to restore nandroid backup, now I'm in a constant bootloop.
If my battery is below 70% does this cause bootloop upon restore?
Not sure how to rectify this, I followed the instructions as described in these forums.
I can reflash but everytime i try to restore it goes into bootloop.
I need help as my earpiece failed & need to return for warranty, if someone has a solution it would make my day.

Well man join the club haha (not at all saying this only happens with the Jboogie nandroid back Up) but I tried to do it as well and got into the same position your in my only solution wasbto flash the sogned leaked 2.51 froyo us sfb. Non downgradeable so basically its the "beta"for the motorola defy froyo, that was my only solution

Shouldn't you have installed 2.21 instead of 2.51?
I was told to flash uk sbf 2.21 then restore. I'm just about to do it once the sbf downloads.
Not sure if the correct firmware will be displayed once i restore, well if it even restores without the bootloop

I had the same problem i cant tresore my own backup i have the boogie release :-(

flashed 2.21 uk as described in higgsy how to recover thread. Search the version he has listed as i couldn't get them off the link from moto (google found it, ~130mb)
Once you have done so, root then restore nandroid backup you created or simply use the Telstra Factory Reset ZIP found in these forums.

Can I flash nandroid backup of tmous 2.2 on 2.1?

So I was trying to backup a nandroid of the beta official tmous 2.2. I have two phones, one has the beta official 2.2 and the other stock 2.1. I rooted both, did a titanium backup of both, installed system recovery and ran backup of both. Then I went and loaded the 2.2 backup sd card onto the 2.1 phone and ran system backup and restored the backup. You are probably cringing by now...so it installed the backup and rebooted, and , is now in bootloop on the M logo. Can I somehow restore using the backups, or do I have to flash using rsdlite and use one of the roms on here?

So that's what you did...
To fix the 2.1 phone you bricked, try restoring the 2.1 nandroid you made.
If I'm correct, Moto's locked bootloader saved you and stopped Recovery from loading the new kernel that's used by FroYo. Which is why you're bootlooping...
If I'm wrong, you'll have to flash the leaked FroYo SBF and restore the FroYo Nandroid you made onto it...

yea, as you know I was trying to make a 2.2 tmous nandroid backup to post on here, but since I'm a noob at this I didn't want to post a possible corrupt nandroid, so I wanted to make sure it was good by trying it out. I couldn't restore the 2.1 nandroid, so I went ahead and flashed the UK 2.34. Thank goodness it worked.
So, now how can I flash the 2.2 nandroid backup onto this UK 2.34 to verify that I made a correct nandroid backup? Is it possible? I am thinking that it would have worked if I wiped data and cashe, wich I forgot to do that the first time...

well, just figured out that wiping didn't have anything to do with it...as I'm back to bootloop. Flashing the 2.34 again

The way you can test your nandroid backup is by booting into recovery, make a backup, wiping the phone, making another backup, and then booting the phone. This will allow you to see what is actually on the backup. Yes you will have to reboot and play around a bit to check, but it should be free and clear of things, at that point reboot into recovery, and restore your rom. That will mean that the second backup you made will be exactly what you just experienced. Hope that helps.

On a side note, last night when I was researching how to recover, I could have sworn I came across nandroid backups of the tmous 2.2 in the development section...Beach Head...have you looked in there (I think I saw it posted in the thread about the tmous 2.2 OTA update, thought I saw several people post a nandroid backup in the thread). Anyway, I still plan on getting this uploaded as soon as possible, but thought you might want to check in that thread...

You can restore nandroid backup of 2.2 when you are on 2.1. But you will have bootloop. It's beacause you have new kernel (from 2.2) that is not compatibile with bootloader. After restoring nandroid you should try flashing a 2.2tmo_boot only .sbf http://www.mediafire.com/?pkjkk75emk6x83f . Maybe that help. But i really not tested this with tmobile roms. With jboogie mods its working fine. Also remember about gsm fix if you use phone not in US. All 3g fixeS are in this topic http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=944258 . You should use the file with the frequencies of your country. If somethings go wrong you should flash 2.1 rom sbf (version that you are using now).

How can I downgrade from Froyo (Pays-ROM) to Eclair?

I need to downgrade to Eclair cause I have to send it to the manufacturer. is it possible? (from Froyo Pays-Rom).

Yes, it is possible, at least I think so, haven't tried Pays. I had to do it myself, I just did nandroid backup of my 2.2 ROM (to keep all my stuff) then did a data wipe, after it a flashed an original Moto SBF with RSDLite, then flashed a nandroid backup of my operator's ROM.

Ok, so let's suppose you have a rooted phone and you have system recovery installed on the Defy (google those things, as they're easy).
1. Boot into System Recovery. Go to Backup and restore, go to backup and backup your system (this will make a copy of your data, cache and system, a copy of the ROM you are using and the apps/data you have added, like passwords and stuff; the backup will be done in /sdcard/goapkrev/backup/[date], store it somewhere safe).
2. Go back to System Recovery main menu and do a data wipe.
3. Flash an official Moto SBF with Eclair (Google is your friend) with RSDLite.
4. Flash the bootonly for the SBF you flashed in 4 with RSDLite.
5. Root and install System Recovery.
6. Go to System Recovery->backup and restore and restore a nandroid backup of the official ROM that your operator uses (you have to search for it previous to this steps and put it in /sdcard/goapkrev/backup/
7. Unroot and uninstall System Recovery
Now you have the Defy just as your operator handed it to you.

[Q] Quick question regarding nandroid back ups

Hi all.
I am going to experiment with a few roms today. Despite Motorolas best efforts to screw the phone with there locked bootloader policy at the moment i have my phone functioning just about perfectly mainly thanks to the super work of the hackers and modders on here. I have a couple of camera hacks allowing me to use the search button to take pics and the 848 wide video mode enabled. I also have the cpu overclocked at 1100 and it runs super stable and gives me the best battery life i have ever had on an android handset. Basically as it is now it works like a dream (how it should have come out of the box some may say) and therefore before i flash anything else i would just like clarification on a couple of points.
So anyways to get where i am at the moment i flashed the full sbf of 3.4.2.117 which i believe is the uk leak of froyo. Now if i start to flash other sbfs and nandroids but want to revert back to my phone state as it is now is it simply a case of going into recovery and restoring the nandroid or will i also have to flash once again the sbf of 3.4.2.117 and then restore the nandroid?
I am just a little unsure and would like to know before i start messing around with it so if you know the answer please let me know.

ok now here comes the concept of fixed sbf.....(without cg31 & 39),
root your phone install 2nd int....(..its safer than a condom ...)
wipe data and cache via 2nd int, nandroid and fixed sbf...and voila you are on a new version.

yes...you can always flash the full sbf files on froyo...just dont go full flash on gingerbread 2.3.4 leak...you cannot revert back to froyo.....

I have already lost downgrade ability to 2.1 have no intention of flashing 2.3 and am running 2.2 using the uk rom listed above. I simply want to know what the procedure is for being able to install my nandroid back up of the phone exactly as it is now.

Ok now if you want the phone as it is now you have to go to recovery restore your nandroid and then flash fixed sbf of your current nandroid if your upgrading to another rom do the same thing install the nandroid and fixed sbf so you don't lose downgrade ability

i just want the simplest way to get back to where i am at the moment after i start flashing different sbfs and nandroids.
please understand i wont be flashing any 2.3 roms only 2.2 and all i want to do is be able to retsire my current nandroid backup if i choose to
have to say as much as i love the defy if motorola continue with there locked boot loader then i wont be buying another of there handsets which is a great shame as they do make some really good phones. have never known such a complicated system just to flash a few roms. even using a gold card on my old hero and desire was simpler.

with nandroid + fixed sbf , you can even go to 2.1, 2.2 , 2.3 and back to any whr....i was on 2.3 came back on 2.2 again gone to 2.3

wow. it is quite hard to get a straight answer on these forums even though it seems some of you are trying which i do appreciate. There is some real good information in this threasd but unless i am being extremely dim i dont think any of it has actually given me the answer i need.
i have already said i have lost the ablity to downgrade from 2.2 to 2.1 becuase i flashed a full 2.2 sbf. When i did try to go back to 2.1 i bricked the phone.
All i want to know is the process for restoring my nandroid.
do i have to flash the same sbf i am using now and then restore the nandroid or can i simply flash any 2.2 sbf and it will still work.
If anyone knows then please just let me know

If you re read my post carefully you will understand its not magic to restore your nandroid go to custom recovery and click restore and then flash the fixed sbf of the current Rom finished

flashing & restoring, seams to be real pain
i'm on new 2.2 CEE stock firmware, i want to flash CM7 or Barebones for example, but i need to have the ability to return back to where i am now (2.2 stock)
so, to summarize everything:
1) root current firmware, install 2ndintdefy, reboot & nandroid backup my current state
2) wipe everything & install new rom (CM7 or other)
3) wipe everything again & what now......flash fixed sbf of my initial firmware, or no need?
for the restore operation:
1) wipe everything & restore my stock firmware nandroid backup (?)
2) flash fixed sbf after restoring nandroid backup? or no need
any help would be greatly appreciated

i think, the only way to go back to eclair is flash using nandroid backup and fixed sbf.
if u want to go back to froyo, u can flash with full sbf

[Q] Downgrade from CM7 to stock rom

I wanna ask about the step of going back to stock 2.2 from cm7 via flashing .sbf.
I am now using cm7 rc1.
Do I need to wipe data before flashing?
If yes, which recovery I need to choose in bootmenu, custom or stock?

I have a question regarding the FAQ (and I'm a noob when it comes to installing roms and flashing):
I am currently on stock US Froyo (Version.34.4.9.MB525.T-Mobile.en.US, Build Number: 3.4.2-107_JDN-9) and would like to try out CM7.
Before I do this I want to make sure I can go back to my stock version just in case.
The CM7 FAQ state that in order to downgrade from CM7 I need to have a nandroid backup AND a fixed SBF.
I already made a nandroid backup (using CWM)
My question is related to the SBF:
Why do I need to apply an SBF on top of my nandroid backup? Isn't this a full backup of my phone? Could somebody please also please verify my understanding of a fixed SBF is (compared to a normal SBF)?
Is a fixed SBF an SBF which enables future downgrades?
Also, when installing CM7 - do I really need to flash nordic first since I'm already on Froyo?

Hello,
flash the Froyo Rom what you need/want.
After this, you must make a Fullwipe with Stock Recovery.
Then you have original Froyo back.

You have already Froyo. You don't need flash any sbf.
1. Backup your Data
2. Copy CM7 zip on your SD Card
2. Root your Froyo
3. install CustomRecovery for example (2ndInit Recovery
4. Full Wipe from Custom Recovery
5. Flash the .zip from SD Card
6. Reboot
done.
You can back to the original Froyo with RSDLite and this sbf: (US T-Mobile 3.4.2-107 from here)

You can restore your Nandbackup, yes. (I think so.)
If you have after the Nandrestore problems, you can back by using sbf.
