I have been running through rubbish sense based ROMs that are easily flashable in clockworkMod recovery v5.0.2.0 , and i need to get cm7 ,right.. (excuse my n00b-ness) But how do i go about getting that , and then how do i go about installing the aosp ROMs? Also, nightlie, (checking to see if i researched correctly) They are basically over the air updates ect, ect.? Correct or am i missing something completely ? Help a n00b out. You'll get your thanks obviously =]
Cm7 is an aosp ROM all to itself. You don't need to run this ROM if you don't want to. But, a lot of people love cm7.
There are several aosp roms that are also very good. Liquid, miui, omfgb... To name a few.
Nightlies are roms that are built by a computer program. This process is used to develop a stable ROM. For the most part, nightlies are buggy and don't always completely work. As a noob, these might frustrate you. I would stick to a stable version. Just my opinion, try them if you want to.
Aosp roms are flashed in the same manner as a sense based ROM. Through recovery. It is important to wipe cache, dalvik cache, and do a factory data reset when you interchange between sense and aosp roms.
I hope I have answered some of your questions. XDA is an excellent place to expand your knowledge. Your noobness will wear off soon...

Here is a link to the stable cm7 ROM. You will need to download the ROM itself, and the Google apps (gapps) .zip files.
Do a full wipe, flash the rom, then flash the gapps file. This can be done in the same recovery session, no need to reboot first. But... Flash the ROM first, gapps second.
Also, check the stickies in the general section. There are several guides that fellow members have writen to help people who are new to all of this. I have found them quite helpful.

The deodexed version is themeable, the odex version has a slightly faster boot time and uses less space in system. That's the quick and dirty answer, anyway. If you want to modify it at all, flash the deodexed version, otherwise just flash the odexed version.
You're going to flash it the same way you'd flash any other rom. Follow the directions in the thread, I'm not sure if you'll need to flash the updated radios, etc. If you don't know how to flash a rom - I know you have a custom rom installed, but a lot of people have someone else root/flash for them - there should be a walkthrough floating around somewhere. If you need help or just want clarification, shoot me a pm. I have a fairly lengthy write up on everything to do with rooting/flashing/recovery/etc, I'd be happy to send you that or help you out.

The wimax, prl, and radio are optional; they will update what the are supposed to. You'll only brick your phone if you do a battery pull/battery dies during an update of the radio. You don't have to update any of those if you don't want to, but just wipe the cache and dalvik, then flash if you want to.
thank man...whats the benefit of updating those, which kernal should I use andwhats I hear its sense 1.0?

Nothing really besides having an updated connection possibilities...PRI can affect your battery, but if its good, no need to change it. Yea, its sense 1.0, and there are sense 3.0 roms out there.
why would an upgrade downgrade like it did? whar the difference between 3 and 1¿

I'm new to the Inc2 dev scene but am very familir with ROM's in general. I just unlocked my Inc2 using HTC's method posted today.
I like Sense but want OC and general ROM optimizations. Any Recommendations? I downloaded the Sabotage ROM and hopefully that's what I'm after until CM9 is in at least beta.

Well, sabotage is based on the stock ROM. If you're looking for higher sense versions, my personal recommendation is mikrunny.

Carbonite fusion deux is a themed version of the stock 2.3.4/2.1 Rom. It's one of my favs. It's smooth!
MikRunny 1.01 is a killer sense 3.5 Rom. The tweaks are awesome! It's probably my favorite sense roms. A lot of people hold this Rom in high regards. The Mik team puts out good stuff.

OC yes... UV I'm not sure. I OC to 1100 on mine and let er buck. The battery life is much better than stock, so I didn't mess with it to much.

You're not s-off, that's your problems, that's whhy the mik Rom didn't work cause from what I gather u have to be s off to run anything other than stock kernels... Search the development section for the hboot downgrade tool then use revolutionary and u should be good to go man

i just installed MikRunny 1.0.1 and i am very, very happy with it. it's actually my first flash. i was content with my stock ROM, but was looking for that something extra. MikRunny is very fast and smooth, and i have zero issues or bugs thus far. it has my recommendation, as it it still feels stock, but that something extra is apparent, just what i was looking for. five thumbs up!

He wouldn't be able to have perm root without having s-off. And if he didn't have perm root then he couldn't flash a rom like sabotage. That wasn't his problem.
Depending on which EXT version the rom is running he'll need the superwipe zip that newt made. It makes sure that the correct partitions are wiped. Clockwork only wipes the default partitions.
EDIT: if he's still S-On he's always going to have problems in which case Jeremy is right. but it's more than just the kernel

Wrong. You can unlock without being s-off. S-off means security off. That means its not secured against bad radio flashes or something other than stock kernels. HTC unlocked but it still has security.

As many of you know, my goal with Rom Chicago has always been to build the simplest and most functional rom. The original Rom Chicago was based on tmobile's release products. Red Line is the culmination of everything I have learned so far: It is built from source, based on AOKP, with the intent of making the Rom fully AOSP over time. Thus, some AOKP features have been removed. The goal is SPEED, STABILITY, and FUNCTIONALITY.
When I figure github out finally I'll push the source.

Does wifi calling work on this ROM?
im not sure about this but i would say no. wifi calling is a tw feature and being that there is no source code yet for our phone all jb roms r aosp which dont support wifi calling
Can you (or someone else that desires to be bothered with it) give a quick overview of which features of AOKP haven't been included?
I assume things like Tablet Mode aren't in this build, or...?
I think asking for flashing instructions are valid for a couple reasons...
You won't have a thread full of asking how to flash
And every dev has a flashing method

I haven't checked out the rom yet but. Love the name.
Flashing all roms is basically the same UNLESS otherwise listed with the Posted rom. Clear what normally gets cleared and flash from a fresh install is what I would do. If no special steps are liisted I would assume that no special steps are needed?

AOKP or CM= No Wi-Fi calling
Jedi or Darkside (or any TW ROM)= Wi-Fi calling
So, no Wi-Fi calling is included in this ROM

As to not get into a debate on flashing lets be honest...
*wipe/data factory reset(TDJ script if on old CWR 5.0.2.x)Also works with TWRP
*flash rom
*flash gapps(if applicable)AOSP based roms
*wipe cache/dalvik(TDJ script if on old CWR 5.0.2.X) Also works with TWRP
*fix permissions(if applicable)
*reboot
*wait 5-10 minutest to settle
*reboot sign in
I have not seen too many variations of this simple flashing method but I could be wrong :good:

Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Hello, I've worked with custom roms and such before, but only stable things. I installed the Cyanogenmod 10.1 nightly builds, and I've been updating them every day, through TWRP by just flashing the rom, and gapps. A snapshot was just released, and I was wondering if I just do it the same method, or do I have to do the wipe system and all that when you first install a brand new rom. I'm pretty sure I do it the same way, but I just want to make sure there isn't have to be anything else. Better safe than sorry.
Oh my why are you going through all that trouble CyanogenMod has a built in updater all you do is go to about and then CyanogenMod update I believe it will ask you the frequency to check for updates. Make sure you change the options to nightly builds. The phone will notify you when there's an update, after downloading the phone will update itself and all your apps will still be there so you won't need to flash G apps each time.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
The process to do this is called a "dirty flash" because you are flashing over what you already have without wiping again. Usually if its an updated version of the same rom you dont need to rewipe everything
However, if you come upon this in some other rom (you're updating to a new version of it), make sure that the OP's instructions dont mention a full flash, because the nature of some big updates WILL require you to do a full wipe and then flash
But for this specific case, just do what the guy above me said

Yes you can and like Fin said, make sure to read the whole op before flashing the kernel, theres alot more to it than just flashing a kernel and even though it says its for AOKP or JB,make sure its made for your rom and alot of devs add different governors and voltage regulators to their kernels, make sure to look at that also,so you can get the best battery life, but at the same time you might want speed, theres alot of things to look for and concider before using a OC kernel, the main thing, follow close directions and if your not sure about something, ask first before bricking your phone.
