Lock Stock Launcher in memory? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm sure I saw someone say they have locked the stock launcher in memory by editing the build props, but i can't for the life of me find that post.
I tried V6 Supercharged but either I couldn't use it or it doesn't work. Is there anyway to lock it?
Thanks in advance.

Locking it to memory, is that the same thing as "freezing" it using Titanium Backup? If not what does locking it to memory do?

It 'locks' it into RAM. These means that Android's low memory task killer function will not kill the home launcher.
Have you ever played an intensive game, or hopped between applications using a lot of RAM and then pressed the home key and watched as the homescreen has to be loaded again? Icons slowly appearing, widgets loading and the homescreen sluggish until the system clears enough space in the ram for it to sit comfortably again.
This build prop fix THEORETICALLY fixes this issue by not allowing the allocated ram for the launcher to be cleared for another application.

Oh wow that would be awesome! I hate when i hit the home button and my clock widget part of it is were its suppose to be and the other part is towards the bottom and half off the screen untill it finishes loading. Or my icons are all little green droid shopping bags.... lol
would there be a way to modify the string to work with GO Launcher instead of the stock home launcher?

I assume it would apply to whatever is set as the default launcher so the launcher used is irrelevant.
Go Ex Launcher is such a god damn annoying pile of crap to lock into memory. I've tried using build prop tweaks, using the built in "lock to memory" feature in it, I've even v6 supercharged my r800i to try and "bulletproof" or "hard-to-kill" it.
The supercharge is the only semi-consistent way I have found.
It only works sometimes. The others work 5% of the time for me.

I'm probably just a sucker for the nicer ui tbh

I was under the impression that Ram managers of any sort were bad news past the Droid1 era. They interfere with androids own task killer and actually cause a loss in battery life overall.

Task killers are bad news, yes. These, however, edit Androids default minfree values, giving more strict or liberal handling of tasks using Androids own 'task killer'.

LCD Resoloution?

I used LCD resoloution and it worked...kind of...
It changed the resoloution but i couldnt move the apps out of a certain boundary.
Anyone know how i can get it to work? i'd love to put more apps on one page.
That's controlled by you launcher not lcd density. Go into your launcher settings if on one that has options and find where it says rows and columns. Up the number for more columns(sideways) or more rows(up and down).

quick question about adw launcher though, does it randomly hide your status bar too? (the bar on top withh the time / battery life.
That should be an option in ADW. On a home screen, press Menu -> Preferences. Then it should be pretty clear, if i remember.

For future reference, this is a limitation of using a custom resolution with the Market. There's certain resolutions that work, and most market apps will only install with these resolutions. LDPI(120), MDPI(160), HDPI(240), XHDPI(320). Anything else will give you "This app is incompatible with your device". Sometimes you can get around it, other times you cant.

Yeah its adw sometimes it will drain it but go into your running services. Settings>Applications>Running Services. And turn off some things that are running like DRM Services, Sns (if you don't use facebook), .com.samsung.info. android core apps, google services. Etc when your not using your phone these things don't need to be running but will reappear when you need them.
Also quit turning your phone on to look at the battery it won't sleep right if your constantly waking it up....

ADW replacement for CM7?

Well, I have to admit it that I dont like ADW launcher in CM7. I prefer much more simpler such like Gingerbread launcher. I found one but it kept FC on me. Do you know where to find one that is working properly?
I can't say I I have a gingerbread launcher apk, but "zeam" is a simple launcher in comparison to adw at least it has been to me in the past

I had Zeam on my phone for a looooong time. Gave up on it after a couple of bad updates that introduced lag and switched to LauncherPro. Despite having larger footprint, IMHO LP is pretty lag free and has the features that I want (scrolling widgets) as well as a way of saving the dock settings. Zeam kept crashing on my Epic, and there was no easy way to restore the icon spacing etc. settings. Granted, I never ran it on CM7 Epic, but still have Zeam as my choice launcher on my CM7 Nook Color. I also have ADW EX (the premium version of ADW) and feel that its interface is not very intuitive/somewhat clunky vs. both Zeam and Launcher Pro - but it is the most full-featured and customisable one of the three. Never tried Go Launcher but heard some very good things about it.

And another +1 for Go Launcher, although it seems like it's a bit too full-featured to be considered a "simple" replacement. I don't have any issues with the options, but I could see it being somewhat confusing for anyone wanting just a plain home replacement.

Try go browser. Its what I always use.
I like go launcher but I remember reading something from konane (I believe) and he said that within golauncher there was a similar service to carrier iq and that it sends reports (or something) to the developer with info about our phone. That is why most people inlcuding myself expirience poorer battery life with go launcher. Other than that I think Go launcher is the way to go!

4.0.4 laggy!

Is it just me, or does 4.0.4 feel more laggy and slow than 4.0.2?
For example, the homescreen scrolling is less smooth now, and app drawer stutters when I scroll.
Sorry to be a noob, but will wiping cache help?
Not experiencing this whatsoever.
No "lag" here.

Actually I just wiped cache and dalvik in CWM. If it's still laggy after boot up I might flash stock 4.0.4 image and restore everything from Titanium.
edit: fuuu do I really have to do this.... dammit this sucks. still lags. I don't want to restore everything ;(
First time I booted after upgrading it looked laggy. Now it's just as fine as it was 4.0.2.

OK guys. I know why it's lagging now. Turns out it was an app I installed after flashing. 'bird bar premium'. Uninstalled
I guess the ability to swipe down for notification drawer in full screen apps isn't worth the trade off of laggy performance :/
Anyone know a mod that can do that tho? Pretty useful.

Use Apex Launcher free in the market/Play Store. It has options to tie actions to swiping up/down and double tapping. One of those actions is pulling down the notification bar and I also use the swipe down action for the notification bar on it (much easier than reaching for the top of the screen when using the phone with one hand). Apex Launcher seems to give me less redraws than Nova Launcher too while keeping all the same functionality of Nova Launcher, plus a few more things such as the above mentioned swipe/double tap actions.

nice, thanks for the suggestion. But what I'm looking for is, you know how you can only swipe down for notification drawer when you see the status bar? But in full screen apps (like angry birds) you can't see the status bar which means you can't swipe it down.
I think you're saying Apex launcher assigns a gesture for that? I only want this mod for full screen apps. Thanks.

[Q] Launcher with Folders inside DRAWER Apps Screen

Other than Go Launcher Ex plz, i know it has it but it takes too much memory

Apex Launcher + Holo Locker

Hey guys, I'm using these great apps to replace my launcher and lockscreen.
The problem is: Eventually, when I push the home button and unlock my device, all icons are gone for a few seconds (as if the launcher was restarting). I don't know what is going on and didn't found anything on google.
Does anyone know what is causing this? Any tips?
I know it's probably Holo Locker's fault, but it would be nice to fix that without having to remove it.

It definitly sounds like launcher redraw. It happened to me very often on my SGSI. Normally after using an app the steals lots of ram or one that stores alot in the cache memory.
U should spend 4$$ on the go launcher holiday special, its a lightweight version of normal go launcher ex witch also includes go locker integrated and it is only 4.7 mb.
A lot of the additional crap from go launcher is gone, but still customizable with themes-text color-icon size-etc..it is so fast, smooth and stable..really a joy to use IMO..

It is slimmed down about 40%.I personally think that to much crap is filled in free go launcher ex,but the holiday edition is so fast and stable.the reviews on play store is amazing,I mean ppl can't/ won't read OP and also don't uninstall their free go launcher and go locker before installing the paid one.go locker is integrated in the paid version.and ofcause u can not restore your settings from free launcher as this is a completely different launcher, but so what it takes max 30 min to set up your app/widgets on homescreen,if u really have cramped up your homescreens..
Refund it within 15min,I do that quite often if I don't like the apps I just purchased.
