[Q] Wave S8500: gaining access to hidden OSP partition - Bada Software and Hacking General

Hello everybody. I have just found this very interesting forum...
As from title, I have just upgraded my ROM and forgot to backup some important files. I.e., I had many notes written down on the mini diary. Even if I think the mini diary data might be now overwritten, I would like to know for the next times if there is a way for gaining "disk" access to the OSP (hidden) partition. With "disk" access I mean being able to see the partition as a disk for using prohgrams like GetDataBack or Active File Recovery to restore any deleted file...
The reason I would like to do that is because usual programs, i.e. WaveBackup, are only able to backup not deleted files, as you know. Beside that, WaveBackup gives me an error message saying "could not retrieve..." a certain file, several times.
I'm aware that way would mean booting up from another partition or, anyway, accessing the OSP partition in an alternative way in wich Bada boot up should be avoided...
Thanks for any response or opinion

Use Kies Backup function that came with bada 2.0
Best Regards

Sorry.
You can only backup exisiting files.
There are NO Software Tools available, to restore overwritten/erased stuff from memory.
Handset is more complex/complicated as USB Memory Stick... you have NO direct access to "OSP partition"...
forgot to backup some important files.

Can anyone HELP ???.........

Before swapping my XDAIIi with my new EXEC I made a back-up on my SD CARD. BUT THE EXEC CANOT RESTORE FROM THIS LOCATION!!!..... Is there anyway of recovering my data????? thank you anyone out there with more knowledge and expertise who could help.........
Find another device running the same ROM version as your old device and restore your data to that device. The extraxt what you need and active sync. The transfer all data to the new device.
Thanks.....It was exactly what I thought. But I have tried this on 4 different machines.....and they all crashed or froze and it just didnt happen........
Is there any other possible way!? :?
When you say you made a backup on your SD card, I'm guessing you mean a backup of the entire XDAIIi system (including all your files, all program files and all ROM files).
If so, you can't restore a backup from an XDAIIi onto an XDA Exec. They're two completely different machines and the backup will be incompatible.
Like badgerboybadger says, you need to extract from your backup only those files that contain your personal data: your documents, templates, ringtones and so on. Leave behind anything connected with the device or installed programs. Then you can copy your personal data onto your Exec and it will work. If you want to transfer installed programs from the IIi to the Exec then you'll need to reinstall them on the Exec...
....silicon,
Yes Indeed, I did make a full system backup!
and you are talking about something i was not aware it is possible to do???
lets see......
you say......"you need to extract from your backup only those files that contain your personal data: your documents, templates, ringtones and so on. Leave behind anything connected with the device or installed programs. Then you can copy your personal data onto your Exec and it will work"......

Yeah - I guess that was what I was suggesting, but I've got no idea how to do this! Sorry.
I wasn't sure which way you'd have done your back up or whether it's possible to extract particular files. I suppose it must be, but I've never done it.
If you still have your XDAIIi then can you copy specific files off it?
Alternatively, do you still have a synchronised documents folder on the PC to which you used to connect it? That should have most of the documents that you'll want to keep.
If not I don't know what to suggest.
Providing your old PDA is still available, you really need a backup program that you can run on both PDAs. For example, something like Sunnysoft's Backup Manager - even a time-limited trial edition may be sufficient. Select and back up the required files/data to SD-card on the old PDA, then move the card to the new PDA. Install the backup program there and recover the files/data with that.
Just be careful of the different program versions, try not to copy system files across, and be prepared to do it a couple of times (or more) until you get it right.

Advanced Backup/Restore tactics...

Okidoki.
With help of WinComm and little bit luck I found this...
See Screenshot.
This Backup Restore thingie is maybe same mechanism like Kies use...
These folders are removed after finish... I have NO idea what happens with these files... or where stored...
WinComm only show me this:
Code:
+[055]=> [641.314]Packaging Start[/Media/_SamsungBnR_/DRM.bk]
+[056]=> [641.560]Packaging Finish[/Media/_SamsungBnR_/DRM.bk]:[Success]

.
.
.
But I can't find *.bk files...

You need Internal Menu...
Maybe someone could help to understand how it work...
Thanx.
Best Regards
hmmmmmm
This backup function done from the internal menu makes the files only while real backup is done by Kies
What i mean is if you clicked backup in Kies it sends a command to backup these files just like from internal menu then copy them to the *.sbu file
You can see that Kies is making a temp folder during backup that has all the files then deletes it after completing...I catched one of those temp folders before just before its delete but it don't has *.bk files at all ....It contains real data
Best Regards
If I'm fast enough, then I can catch few files...
Attached is filelist...
Hmmm.
But I don't understand where result is stored...
My testdevice is nearly empty... Maybe on full device better to see something.
Best Regards
Searching for String _SamsungBnR_ leads to this:
WsSyncml.so
in ShpApp.app
And in FFS I see this:
Contents.xml
...
Best Regards
Edit 1.
With help of this:

Thanx again.
I have made ELF file... it is attached.
But my brain is too small.
Maybe someone can see, what where how is stored.
Thanx.

I am wondering why we never used alternate ways for faster Restore in "new" Firmware...
1. Multiloader "advanced" stuff
All user used Kies update in bada 1.x know.
That it is possible to update WITHOUT dataloss.
1.1
Users can read... in Multiloader
Differences only.
Why I never seen Tutorial to make own PFS + ShpApp_HD.app.
1.2
It seems most now only MINOR changes in apps_compressed... ever same size...
I have also few tests, where I have only flashed apps_compressed.bin...
Why we ever flash FULL and erase all our stuff...
I ever thought. Lemmings is an only nice Game....
2.
FOTA update is without dataloss...
Okidoki. But other problems as only few users are able to enter...
3.
Now 1 of the advanced thingie...
Why not investigate some time and energy to BACKUP database... in main it is:
DB2 and Registry folder...
Its long time ago...
I was able to make clones...
1:1 copy on 2 handsets...
Last tested Version was XXJL2.
Warning! During security it is not risk free to play with database.
Bootcycle etc...
But hey...
We not know how long Samsung need to rollout bada 2.0 ...
and make PFS + ShpApp_HD.app for S8500/S8530
I think it is NOT magic or impossible... Only little bit time and brain needed.
Best Regards
small pfs i used to work with
b.kubica
Thanx again.
It takes long time before I have realized how usefull SHP_CSC_FEATURES.zip is.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21697568&postcount=13
After short look into your attached PFS I must smile little bit...
SHP_CSC_FEATURE_RECORD_VOICE=1
Thank you very much for all your findings.
Best Regards
sorry i haven't seen your thread when i opend my new thread
but these are all i've found from sbu files
that might help you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1469175
---------- Post added at 03:35 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:30 PM ----------
another thing that i understood right now!!
when you extract a .sbu file via 7zip you see a file "_mainfest.xml" which includes a "device id" that is static for all backups of a device
so maybe replacing this device id with our device id (which can be found with making a small backup) might help installing a device's backup on another
@Adfree
About PFS updating
I made an update for my own custom with my own hands ....No need for Kies anymore
http://www.sammobile.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3417
How i did it
I used WinMerge to compare every file from XXKL6 & XXLA1
Made PFS file from differences
Added some tweaks to make CSC & Registry updates
PFS is really a nice idea to update registry if what you are updating doesn't need master reset
Best Regards
Little progress...
*.bk files are simple ZIP.
I have catch them during Kies Backup...
My handset was new flashed... nothing installed...
Now several ideas...
Best Regards
a dummy question!!!
what do you want to do by knowing the mechanism of backups?
i myself like to restore a backup of a handset on another !
Totally forgotten...
But it seems now with DisableBadaIntegrity you can backup and restore DB2 folder... :good:
Via Multiloader...
This means f. Database...
Not tested yet by me... maybe "sooon"...
On bada 1.x it was possible to make 1:1 Backups...
Thank you b.kubica
Best Regards
BackupInfo.dcf
These files are created in every Info folder... if Internal Menu Backup is used...

Kies Restore... Bada 2.0

Let's Discussing Again How To make that Kies Restoring works on Bada 2.0.In this case Kies doesn't Restore Apps and Games
How ?
1.
Maybe use WinComm to log...
2.
Sniff USB Communication from Kies... Commands etc...
3.
Usefull... Analyze *.sbu files...
Maybe someone find Tool or way to extract easily...
If we can see inside... Then higher chance to understand what is missing...

I used to have lots of problems getting apps to restore. I now empty any folders before doing a backup and have no problems at all.
Possibly a problem with folders or a problem with there appearing to be more than 16 apps per page.

[Q] How to recover internal files deleted?

I had been searching and googling spending all night awake but couldnt find a "modest" way to restore the deleted files from internal memory of my ZL. I found threads asking the same thing and this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1994705 but its for galaxy phones, despite being for other phone I guess that process could work but its pretty difficult to me to understand all.
Is there a easiest way?
I had tried hexamob recovery, DiskDigger and others apps but it was a failure. I need to recover photo files, .txs, specific .xmls, ect. I need to recover smsbackup&restore files and notes files from colornote dating from 2011
Its 2014 and cant believe yet there is no easy way (those software like android file recovery, android data recovery, etc etc are useless since they cant detect phone´s internal memory.)

flash clockwork recovery , if you dont knows how to flash cwm recovery, rply me your cell information, but if you knows how to flash clockwork recovery then, then in clockwork recovery, mount your internal storage to the pc, mounting will create your internal storage drive in pc not a syncronous device, then use data recovery softwares, download from here http://kickass.to/power-data-recovery-v4-6-0-crack-rezman1984-7z-t2155009.html , then install data recovery software and install the crack, then open recovery softare, then choose your internal storage drive, choose deep scan process, it will deeply scan your internal storage, and try to recover all the files from the day of manufacture, hope you will get your data back ! rply me if you dont knows how to flash clockwork data recovery i will guide you, and rply yours cell os's information also, hit thanks button if i had helped you, i am new in xda developers and want to become senior member !

using my above method, you can recover your media files and i guess .xmls also, but no sms and no contact !
I could recover some of the files that I wanted thanks to a very old backup I found in my pc. It wasnt all the updated info I wanted but at least I recovered something. So I get what I got and already give up with that xP. Its a shame about the pictures because those are pics of a Filippa Giordano concert xP. My problem right know its I dont have time because Im taking school tests :/ but the info you gave me sounds good, in theory it may work. I know how to flash clockmood recovery in HTC but I guess is pretty much similar the process with Xperia, If I got time I´ll give it a try, thanks for this info and I hope ppl who are in the same problem could read this and give it a try.

Near impossible. If no data has been written to it even the police would still have a hard job. You will need to get all your contacts from the people they related to, sorry.

There is next to no way to restore any file from a piece of formatted memory.
Actually there is a way to do it, but it take your time and energy a lot...
Sent from my Xperia M Single SIM [C1905] using Tapatalk
Well if you didn't perform a full format of the memory card and didn't use it since then, you still have some chances. Connect the SD card directly in your computer through a card reader and run recovery apps such as Recuva or PhotoRec, you may be able to recover the file. If you're going to use Recuva, use Deep Scan mode...
If the .vcf was stored in the internal memory, then it's probably gone, but if you have root you could try some Android apps that do the same, but most of them are paid and aren't guaranteed to recover the deleted files...

Hi, I am sorry to hear about what happened. I don't know if you still have the same problem after all these years, or you already found a way, but I want to help, you can use recovery tools like acethinker disk recovery. Recovery tools today are powerful enough to get back your lost files.
