Decided to make my own set of softkeys based on the stock softkeys, just less bright, and cyan to match the status bar icons. I've attached a Metamorph compatible theme that you can use, and should work on any ROM tested on stock, and on an AOSP build of 4.0.3, but unless your ROM has major changes to the SystemUI APK, this should work fine. Always a good idea to backup first just to be safe.
There is NO included Search key, so if you're using a search key mod, the search key will be the same.

Thanks! Glad you like them. I've attached the wallpaper as well; got it through Zedge, not sure where it originated, so it's not a full 1440x1280, but it scales pretty well.
so we flash this in recovery right?
Very nice, can you make them brighter though. I havent seen any cyan colored softkeys that are bright enough to see in the daylight real well.

Nope, just use Metamorph from the Market. Place these in /sdcard/AndroidThemes and launch Metamorph (you'll have to install Busybox as well if it's not already installed). Then just pick this one and apply.

Sadly, these are actually as bright as the status bar icons; the problem is that the OS dims them until they're pressed (if you press these you'll see what they're supposed to look like). I don't know if there's a relatively easy way around that or not.
does this have one for a search button or no?
very nice. would have been perfect if it werent for the 3 dot botton on the far right that shows up... even on main home screen. in your screen shots it dont show it, but i got it on mine

You must have installed a modification of some sort. This won't cause anything to appear that wouldn't normally; all it does is replace a few graphics. Are you running a custom ROM?

Does this only work if its being done do stock softkeys? I just tried metamorphing mine, after I have loaded another customized set of softkeys. After reboot, the softkeys disappeared completely.

Depends on what sort of customization. Mine were stock, but short of major changes to the softkey navigation, this shouldn't cause any issues short of design inconsistency if you have a search key. Try unpacking and applying it again. If you need a stock SystemUI.apk just let me know; I backed mine up before applying this.
Thanks, love it! Had to flash and reboot twice for it to work, but it did

Sure thing. I've attached backups from 4.0.2 (actual stock) and what I'm running now (an AOSP build of 4.0.3). Use whichever applies to your ROM, but I'd advise running a backup first before modifying it, just to be safe.

It's not a flashable ZIP. I only zipped it so that I could add it as an attachment. I'd assume you could use:
Code:
adb remount
adb push SystemUI.apk /system/app
but don't trust me on that.
They doesnt look so sharp.. is it the glowing? Wouldnt it look better if they was sharp as the icons in the statusbar? Is it possible?
Related
Status bar, not notification pull down. I've already gotten the notification working, as it was just a standard png edit.
Anyway, is there anyone that can give an explanation on how I can get my status bar to be transparent? I've already gotten the proper image from system/app/SystemUI.apk. I edited it and saved it properly for transparency. Where I'm getting stuck is the whole draw 9 thing, since the image is a ".9.png" file. I've already opened the png in the draw 9 patch tool in the SDK, but I'm just totally stuck at this point.
I sort of understand the deal with drawing black lines on the right and the bottom for the content areas, then the two dots on the top and left for the stretchable areas. But after I save the file, I'm still seeing the drawn black lines in the image. Am I not doing something right? After I get that sorted, how do I go about resigning the apk to push it to my device?
You'll need to run Eclipse, this tutorial helped me with draw nines. Once you put them thru Eclipse, the lines will disappear. Then you can extract them from the unsigned apk like the video states, use 7zip to put the images back into your framework-res.apk or whatever without having to resign anything.

I'm a rom-whore, and I'm damn proud of it
Edit: Nevermind, I'm editing the right file. I just did a test and made it completely red and it worked. But, for some reason transparency is not working at all, it just keeps appearing solid black.
I believe it's in services.jar if I'm not mistaken. Or so that's what I had heard. I haven't messed with it myself.

Yeah, I've tried about everything I can think of. If you get something put together, I might figure out how to put together a flashable zip of a transparent or semi-transparent status bar and pull down for stock CM7 theme.

Sent you a PM.
The actual image is in SystemUI.apk. But it won't render transparent without an xml our services.jar hack. It's a pain in the ass. Also if you actually make it transparent you are going to have problems with text and image stacking when you pull down down notifications. I just replace the image in SystemUI.apk with a 480x38 top part of my wallpaper.

Indeed that does work. Now, if I could only get that transparency to work with the original CM7 theme. I'm not a fan of all the extra theming stuff that particular patch adds. Thank you though.

While I can say with 100% certainty, 1) I am using one from a Sprint Developer and I am on AT&T. In a couple of the links it does state (for use with all CM9 enabled phones) You may get a screen saying "this theme is missing assets for your device's screen size" you can choose Bummer/ Apply anyway, pick apply anyway.
While I have found 1 or 2 that don't work, I would assume most of the do. Once you download the file go to downloads and press it to install. You will now find the theme in Themes, in your settings.
Good lick and have fun

Ok, I know this is going to sound dumb, but I'm rooted still on the stock rom, can I use these themes? This is the first time i haven't had to load a custom rom, so I'm used to just looking for stuff that goes with whatever rom I'm using. The only real reason I'm even looking at other themes is to get the icon for the App drawer moved to the middle instead of the right side, and possibly remove the 5 little dots for what screen I'm on. Again, sorry for the dumb question, just been so long since I played around.

Wow....dropped to halfway down page two in a matter of hours. This device needs a separate forum for themes. There's just way too many "app" threads. I've never understood why we need app threads for a specific device anyway.
At any rate, this is my one and only bump. I'm not desperate for attention, just figured it dropped out of sight so quick, hardly anyone even got to see it
Looks good, thanks!

B.) you have to be rooted for this, right?

A. Nope. Only way you should have the possibility of issues is if you've flashed something else over stock (different rom, mods, possibly a theme). A launcher, or any other app should never affect the theme or vice versa.
You'll notice I used the word "should" a lot there. That's because I make no guarantees. You should ALWAYS make a backup before flashing anything. Flukes happen and you don't want to be the guy having to scramble to find a way to fix their unresponsive phone.
B. Yup, have to be rooted and have CWM or some other custom recovery to flash anything. Rooting really isn't a big deal and can be easily reversed if you need to.

I'll say keeping even one custom rom up to date can be a pain, depending on how often the maintainer updates it. It's very likely I'll be switching from stock pretty soon, I just haven't seen much from the custom roms yet to give me a good reason (my tablet is already "buttery smooth" ). CM10 will be my most likely choice, but from looking from the commits, it's more AOSP and less CM right now.
As for i working on the other roms, this is an Odexed theme for not. I believe Jr5 allows you to reOdex using an app, so possibly for that one, but if the other one isn't Odexed it definitively won't work.

I'd definitely like to fix this, but I'm not sure what you're describing and I don't see it myself. I'll probably make a deodexed version soon. SGT7 would probably be able to use that until he decides to make the UI selectable in Settings.apk. Then I'd have to make a special version for that rom.
The way I see it we have 3 basic rom types right now. CM10 based, stock odexed, and stock deodexed based. I may try to accommodate all three, but don't be disappointed if I can't support any further branching. Right now I have a few more things I'm looking to tweak before I start to support more roms.

EDIT: if you want to use LMT launcher you have to have root and root explorer to remove the soft keys. First Install LMT launcher, you can get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1330150.
*Here is the link to download the full screen toggle app so you dont have to modify the build prop
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1497558
Then with root explorer Add "qemu.hw.mainkeys = 1" (without the quotes) at the end of the build.prop in /system and reboot (credit to anirudh412 for this).
Root Explorer found in app store https://play.google.com/store/apps/...sImNvbS5zcGVlZHNvZnR3YXJlLnJvb3RleHBsb3JlciJd

Nice. This should go to Apps section but on the subject, the screen looks wide and shows little bezel on the phone.
Thanks

I would not recommend this app. I tried it. It worked but after reboot my phone I ended up in boot loop. It mess up with the build.prop. So if you don't have recovery it will be pain to restore phone to previous state.
This app worked well for me. Just the placement of the on screen keys would sometimes get I am the way of the software keyboards lower left and lower right most keys. But overall pretty good.

Did you modify did build prop to remove the soft keys before u installed the app? You dont need to modify the build prop for this that maybe the reason you had that boot loop.

This thing almost perfect, the only thing missing is the stock recent apps, instead it uses its own recent apps that don't allow me to remove apps that are running by swiping it to the right.
I think this one look better

Yea someone had all ready mention doing the build.prop mod to remove soft keys then installing LMT launcher, i just wanted to provided alternatives and with this you don't need to do build.prop and you all ways have a back arrow key or home button.

I can't seem to get the recent apps button to work On the Pie control, does it work for you?
Update: I figured it out I was using 2 fullscreen apps at the same time.
you should post a little instruction. It was kind of confusing to me too

well the thing is that with the original post that i put you dont need to do any build prop mods its just installing the apps, but if you want to do the LMT launcher with removing the soft keys its been posted on other threads but ill repost it. Also i dont if a moderator can move this to the app section i posted in wrong place.
Here's what I did:
1. Root the phone with my bootloader still locked.
2. I installed the LMT Launcher app and configured the PIE controls
3. When the PIE controls are all set, I installed the app "Fullscreen Toggle"
4. Fullscreen Toggle gets rid of the softkeys but keeps the status bar on top, which I think is good.
5. I also prefer using Browser vs. Chrome, so Installed Browser apk using the instructions in the other thread for that.
Now, when I browse, I have the full screen, when I exit the browser, I no longer have wasted space by the softkeys taking up space.
I have to say, I love LMT Pie control, its fast and intuitive and its even more convenient to use the phone one handed with it. This made all the difference with this phone.
This is exactly what im doing didnt have a chance to do it yesterday, one question you got stock browser to work cuz it seemed like nobody had it working. Did you follow the instructions from the link I provided.

I cannot wait to try that out when I get my phone, thanks!
To install Browser I followed this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187973
Thanks is im going to link the link the app thread if thats ok.

So I saw this idea somewhere a while back (reddit I think) and decided to try my hand at making these rounded AOSP style icons.
These zips only swap out the png's for the data and wifi statusbar icons unless otherwise stated. Everything else on the statusbar is left as is.
This is made with VRtheme and it works with certain roms and not with others, i'm not sure why. It shouldn't break anything if it doesn't work, you'll just reboot to the same UI you had before. Confirmed working on LeeDroid 7.4.
Flash in recovery, clear cache & dalvik before flashing. Nandroiding before flashing is always a good idea.
Special thanks to Basil3 for helping me with VRtheme.

Is the NavBar set in that way, or can I have the back button on the left hand side and the window switcher on the right as is default?

It's not set that way, thats just the way I prefer it. The icons will be in whatever order you have them arranged in your settings.. it just replaces the pngs. Don't worry I'm not trying to be a navbar Nazi and dictate how you use your phone lol.
Hmm. Tried flashing twice on ARHD 4.1 but it isn't working. Anyone else tried with this ROM?
What would be the correct way to put these into an HTC theme? I applied it and it was great for the default, but when I put a different theme in they went away. Is there a directory I could put these in?
*edit* I am talking about the navbar icons specifically

That rom is odexed right? Don't think it works on odexed roms. Deodex your fine, tested on M9 and M7.

Have you tried re-flashing after applying the theme? If you're using a HTC theme don't change the navbar icons (if that's an option, don't know much about them).
It does make you auto change the navbar icons, and they aren't part of the modular part of themes (font is, as well as a few other things. Disappointed by the number of things that are not modular, however). I'm gonna flash right now with the new theme and report back.
Update: Nope, did not work. Still seeing the updated icons from the theme (which for some reason decided having the home button be a cloud in front of the sun was a great idea. Oh, and having the recents button be mountains. It sucks that the rest of the theme is cool, because I really have a strong dislike for the navbar buttons)

Interesting... I've made a couple of themes based off my wallpaper (that aspect is cool), but it's never changed my navbar icons. That would be my solution- build your own. Other than that, if there's no way to edit your theme and select stock nav icons i'm not sure what to tell you...? Like I said I don't know much about them; don't care for most of them anyway. I agree that the ones you download are kind of "all or nothing" and need to be more customizable.

Well, the problem I have with making my own theme is that (I think) it doesn't turn your dialer dark, which kinda bums me out as the rest of my theme tends to be dark and I'd like as much of that as possible. And while the dialer SEEMS to be a part of that modular design, it only ever gives me the option of "default" unless the theme I have has a mod on it.
The HTC theme engine for Sense 7 is very weird in almost every way right now...hoping it gets smoothed out at some point. Thanks for your suggestions though! I'm gonna see if I can find a way to compromise (or poke around and get everything I want)

Dark dialer.. that would be cool. Maybe a future project.. but I have a move coming up and my time to spend on this is about get a lot tighter. Good luck in the mean time.
If you want to take it into your own hands, google how to decomile/recompile the SystemUI and start making your own edits I'm sure that dark dialer is just an xml edit somewhere.

It's deodexed according to the OP of the thread.
@Chronzy - Neither seems to be working with ARHD 5.0. It is a deodexed rom. What I notice is that the files are changed when I view the systemui.apk, but it doesn't actually change when you use the phone.

Strange indeed..
Sorry I don't have time to troubleshoot guys, days are very busy atm. I can confirm all of the mods I post are working fine on LeeDroid as of 7.2 (which I'm still running). Not sure about the ARHD problem, I thought it was odex/deodex issue but I guess not. If i get time in the near future maybe I can look into it.
Wish I could be of more help, thanks for your interest!

No problem. I just moved the files manually to the APK and it worked fine.
Updated with Slim fade style. Slimmed the border down, not as bulky.
I'm gonna work on how to make this universally flashable across all roms, still puzzled by it.

Hello, unfortunately does not appear to change the icons, but if I wanted to put them manually and replace the original? Could you tell me the path where they are?
