htc incredible power cycling i need help!! - Droid Incredible Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Alright so I have an HTC incredible and it keeps power cycling. The S- is ON and I can't figure out what to do.
I have tried the following:
downloaded stock rom
verified MD5
renamed stock rom to pb31img.zip
put it on sd card(formatted it first)
hboot
fast boot to load image
and thats as far as i can get, the phone wont accept the file, it keeps giving me error messages.
i than tried to put clock work on sd and renaming it... same thing...
i cant figure this out...
someone ...
PLEASE HELLLLPPPPPPPP

It needs to be named exactly PB31IMG.zip capps and all and it has to be on the root of your sd in no folders.
Also dont use fastboot you just use hboot. It should find the file and prompt you to press vol up to update. Also i dont know where you got your stock image from but here is a link to a known good one. http://pvillecomp.com/?page_id=22

fmllll all caps!? im an idiot... ill try this out and hopefully i can restore it .. thanks

[Q] Clockworkmod gone.

Hi guys, I rooted my phone (2.1) using unrevoked, then flashed a new rom into OpenDesire.
When I go to recovery, phone is stucked with the HTC screen (need to remove battery).
What should i do?
thats a bootloop.. just find the RUU you were running before and flash!
hope this helps!
Hi,
Similar problem to some issues I had trying a variety of ROMs.
Something that seemed to work for me is reflashing the ClockworkMod (assuming that what your using) by using ROM Manager. I found that flashing an old version 2.5.0.1 then reflashing 2.5.0.7 seems to work. No idea what's going on but it's certainly a pain popping the battery.
Give it a try.
Regards
Colin
This might work for you
WAIT, BEFORE YOU START, CREATE A GOLDCARD. IT IS VERY NECESSARY. THINGS WILL GO WRONG IF YOU DONT.
EDIT: YOU MUST BE ABLE TO BOOT GO TO THE BOOTLOADER MENU.
Firstly, download this file. http://dl.dropbox.com/u/13240777/Desire Downgrade.ZIP
Extract the files.
Run the win-down.bat file.
Follow on screen instructions.
After the process is completed, Head to the root of your SD card and check if there is a file named P99***IMG (FORGOT THE EXACT NAME BUT IT SHOULD BE SOMETHING LIKE THIS) there should be one.
Secondly, disconnect your phone and turn it off.
After that boot up your phone while pressing the volume down button and the power button.
The bootloader should be checking for files after awhile and once it found the file that is supposed to be in the root of your sd card, press the volume up button (NOT EXACTLY SURE, SHOULD BE THE ONE THAT SAYS YES AND CONTINUE)
It should be writing files to your phone. and replaces everything. E.G: HBOOT, RECOVERY,RADIO and such.
It should be writing files successfully and then it would ask you to reboot. Continue with the reboot and you should be having your Desire back to stock. Perfect.
PLEASE KEEP IN MIND THAT THERE ARE RISKS INVOLVED LIKE FAILURE OF WRITING TO THE HBOOT. PLEASE REMEMBER TO FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS. MAINLY, DO NOT BLAME ME FOR ANYTHING THAT GOES WRONG.
FINALLY, YOU SHOULD BE READING EVERYTHING UP TO HERE AND THAT YOU MUST HAVE A GOLDCARD (A GOLD SD CARD)
Hope this helps you and please ask if you have further questions. PM me if the questions cannot be answered here. Good Luck

[Q] PB31IMG.ZIP Splash Screens

I am somewhat of a noob to this sort of thing. I rooted my phone and am running Frost ROM 2.1, I have a custom boot animation and it all works great....here is the problem. Before I knew how to use SDK tools I tried to install the PB31IMG.ZIP file to flash a new splash screen. It didn't work. Now when I try to use Hboot USB to flash a new image it still says it's trying to open the PB31IMG.ZIP file. The file is not found and gives an error.
A. I deleted the file from my sdcard.
B. I wiped the cache and did a system wipe as well.
C. I completely reinstalled the custom rom. Which I thought would reformat and get rid of all old data.
How do I get it to not look for the PB31IMG.ZIP file and flash a new splash screen?
Please help! Thanks!
flash a new room it is easy go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=812572 he has many flashable splash screens and even a tutorial on how to make your own, it is somewhere in the thread, all you have to is download a splash, make sure it is named PC36IMG.zip, put the file on the root of your sd card, power your phone into HBOOT pressing down and power and holding till it comes up, it will find the PC36IMG.zip and ask if you want to update press up for yes then it will ask to reboot press up again and you should have your new splash HOPE THIS HELPS GOOD LUCK

help updating radio please?

im new to rooting. i literally just did it.
so im trying to load a cyanogen ROM on but i cant update the radio.
im trying to use this one:
Radio-2.15.00.11.19 - CyanogenMod Forum
its the most updated one but when i download it and check the md5, it doesnt match at all... nevertheless i tried it and when went into HBOOT and let it load, an it said it was the wrong file or something and didnt do anything...
what am i doing wrong?
im following these directions:
HTC Incredible: Full Update Guide - CyanogenMod Wiki
ALso, should i be puttign a .zip file on the sdcard? or a foldeR?
EDIT:
ok i got it to work... the md5 sum matches now.
but when i load hboot, it still wont update..
what should i do?
shoudl i go into clockworkmod recovery and apply the sdcard update?
basically step by step, what i did is:
download the file
md5 sum matched
change usb to disk drive
move the PB31IMG.zip file into the sdcard. (the root not in a folder)
eject the incredible and sdcard drives from my computer
unplug USB
power off
power on with volume switch down into HBOOT
wait for scan...
get a message with the word "wrong" and "PB31IMG" in the same sentence.
...
what now?
Oh God... First off never and I will repeat never five more times never never never never never flash a radio with a wrong md5 sum your lucky as ****. That's how you brick the phone and get a lovely paper weight... Redownload the radio and check the sum. If its wrong DO NOT FLASH if its right you have to rename it PB31IMG.zip and put it on the root of the sdcard. And just one more time if the md5 sum doesn't match DO NOT PROCEED. Sorry if I'm coming off as an a-hole but really dude your lucky as all hell.

Look under the Developement section to find the Radio thread. Download the latest version there ON YOUR PC. Make sure the file name is EXACTLY THIS: PB31IMG.zip. Place this in the ROOT of your sdcard, and power off. Hold vol down+power, and wait. If it asks you Apply Update, press VOL UP. This will take up to 2 minutes, DO NOT SHUT PHONE OFF! Then, when it asks you to restart, press Vol Up. All done!
Edit: Agree with guy ahead of me. Flashing a wrong / invalid radio can do some serious damage (usually bricking).
hollyyyyyyyyyy crapppp...
damn... close call..
ok i keep checking the sum and its not right... shoudl i be checking the sum of the .zip? or the sum of radio.img?
im using a mac and i get this sum...
MD5(/Users/Jeff/Downloads/PB31IMG/radio.img)= 2c42ef9e206ea0bfbc00a249b95c8e3f
but it should be:
E559DB670E8C520B871E9A658F5ACBB9
i dont get it...
is it maybe becuase i have a mac and when i download somethign everythign gets unzipped automatically?
ive downloaded it at least 7 times... all the same sum...
and thanks for letting me know... damn if i bricked i think i wouldve killed myself...
I just did this yesterday, I checked the sum of the zipped file and transferred the zip file to the root of my SD card. It should still be zipped to install properly.

Yea rezip it or stop it from unzipping or something.

the reason its not updating is because your phones SD card comes formatted as FAT32. you need to reformat it as FAT. (wait maybe i just said that backwards, but you get the point).
anyways, you don't really seem experience enough (no offense you just rooted) to be doing radio reflashes...... it's not really a necessity and you should play around with ROMS and kernals a bit more
Oh yea I always forget most people dont reformat cards right away...

Also, to flash a new radio, you need to be S-OFF. If you're not, then it's not going to work.

[Q] HTC Desire HD stuck in hboot, no recovery

First off, I know there are a lot of posts with this problem. Mine seems to be slightly different or I'm just stupid. (Probably the latter) Anyway, Desire HD stuck at hboot. S-OFF, cant get into recover either. SD card is blank. Here is what it says at the screen.
ACE PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.0007
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.03.02.26_M
eMMC-boot
and a date.
Also, I usually pay people to root my phone but I cant do it this time around. I updated the ROM and now this. Please help! I can pay you if you can figure it out.
Thank you so much
Are there no options or text below the date? It should say "HBOOT" or "FASTBOOT" and present a small menu of coloured text options.
Also, what ROM did you update before this happened?
It would be good to know exactly what steps led to your problem before suggesting how to fix this. Try to give as much detail as you can.
It says Hboot. and yes, has the options below. The last update was for Cyanogen 7.0 but didnt like it. I went to go back and just recover the back up of what I had because I liked what was on there and yeah, didnt work out so well. Got to love your friends. lol
I have tried bortaks troubleshooting guide and flash a new recovery using android flasher but that doesnt seem to be working either. When I go to recovery, its just sticks me to the splash screen and wont do nothing.
Firstly, as long as you have a working bootloader, your phone isn't bricked and can be recovered.
Well it seems you are Radio S-Off (Ship S-Off), but you also need Eng S-Off to flash a recovery from the command line using fastboot.exe. I'm pretty sure danward's Android Flasher uses fastboot, so I'm not surprised it didn't work.
What to do next depends on whether you can get access to your sdcard from your PC. If you can - with a card reader in the PC, or another phone to put the card in and connect via USB - then go here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=905003
Download the stock 1.32 PD98IMG.zip ROM from Section 1 and put it on the root of your SD card. Then put the card back in your DHD, and reboot into the bootloader.
It should recognise the PD98IMG.zip file and ask if you want to flash it, press Volume Up to confirm. This will put the stock 1.32.405.6 HTC ROM on your phone - this is an early shipped HTC firmware and it's the easiest version to root.
Edit: Note this file and the RUU below are for a Desire HD, and I don't think they will work on an Inspire - see later in the thread for some links to Inspire files.
Once it's flashed, it will replace everything - ROM, Recovery, radio - with the stock versions so you'll need to use the hack kit again, but you should still have Radio S-Off. Also remove the PD98IMG.zip file from your SD card when done, otherwise each time you go into the bootloader it will ask if you want to flash it.
If for any reason you can't get the PD98IMG.zip onto your SD card, you could try running an RUU (Rom Update Utility), this is the official HTC firmware in an EXE file you run from your PC. Plug your phone in via the USB cable and run the RUU file. You can find them here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19101263#post19101263
The 1.32 version isn't there, so I would go for the next oldest WWE version (WWE = world wide edition, i.e. not carrier-branded)
RUU_Ace_HTC_WWE_1.72.405.3_R_Radio_12.28e.60.140f_26.04.02.17_M2_release_161342_signed.exe
If that runs, it will do the same as the PD98IMG.zip, i.e. put your phone back to stock HTC firmware, but once again you will retain Radio S-Off.
I don't know much about the Ace Hack Kit as I rooted my phone before it came out, but I'm pretty sure that it will root either of those two versions of the stock firmware just fine. Good luck!
I downloaded it 3 times from 2 different sources, put it on my sd card, still nothing. Am I doing anything wrong?
Is you USB cable still connected? If it is, the bootloader will go into FASTBOOT mode, and you need to be in HBOOT mode. What does it say under the date, fastboot or hboot?
If it says fastboot, just pull the USB cable out and reboot the phone.
Otherwise I'm not sure why it's not working.
I tried both ways. hboot and fast boot. All you need to do is start the phone up on h boot right? It runs through those codes looking for it and says not found on all 4 of them.

Click to collapse
This is probably a stupid question, but it is definitely a Desire HD, right?
What file names does it say it's looking for when it runs through the codes, does it definitely say PD98DIAG and PD98IMG?
Maybe try the RUU method instead?
Inspire from ATT, same thing right? Its says
sd checking....
loading....[PD98DIAG.zip]
No Image
Loading....[PD98DIAG.nbh]
No Image or Wrong Image
Loading....[PD98img.zip]
No Image
Loading......[PD98img.nbh]
No Image or wrong image.
I would try the other method but I cant find android 1.0 usb driver that it apparently needs. It will still flash though for some reason. What do you think?
The file is definitely called PD98IMG.zip and is on the root of your sd card?
Edit: Any drivers should be installed when you install HTC Sync on your PC, if you haven't done this already get it here:
http://www.htc.com/www/help/
PD98IMG is the file name and its a compressed file so that would make .zip. correct? I have nothing else on the sd card, just that.
Hmm, do you know how to turn on filename extensions in Windows?
For Win7, go to My Computer, Organize menu, then Folder & Search Options. Click on to the View tab and un-tick "Hide extensions for known file types".
Then check the filename again and make sure it ends .zip, and not .rar or something else. Some browsers can change the file name when downloading zip files.
Weird, though. I've just tried a PD98IMG.zip on my phone to check my instructions and it should be okay. I'm not so familiar with the Inspire, but if it's looking for a PD98IMG.zip you should be fine. I think the main difference is in sound files, but the ROMs are otherwise the same.
I checked it. Yes, it is named exactly that. I wonder why it wont run?
I think it's because it's an Inspire. Inside the PD98IMG.zip is a file called android-info.txt, and the first line of that is
Code:
modelid: PD9810000
The model ID for the Inspire is (I think) PD9812000. So it's not recognising the zip as valid.
You'll need a PD98IMG.zip specifically for an Inspire. Maybe check the Inspire forums? Although the phones are very similar they're not 100% the same, and folks there might know which file you need, or where to find the right RUU. Sorry, I didn't realise the PD98IMG file would need to be different.
You might just be able to replace the android-info.txt file inside the zip with one from an Inspire, not sure if that would work though.
Edit: Also, for the RUU you probably need the US-specific file, which is RUU_Ace_Cingular_US_1.80.502.3_Radio_12.39.60.19_26.06.04.14
Edit2: Found this PD98IMG.zip which is for an Inspire, it's the same 1.80.502.3 version mentioned above.
http://www.multiupload.com/JELMZNSKDF
I think I found the file for the Inspire. I'm going to try that next. As far as that last post, That is way over my head, lol.
Good luck! The file linked above at the multiupload address is definitely an Inspire version, so try that if the one you found doesn't work. I'm off now but will check this thread again in the morning just in case.
Thank you so much for your help. I'll post and tell you what happened
Happened to me once, if push comes to shove down load stock Rom from dev section. It is an .exe file that will restore your DHD back to stock from h-boot u will have to root your phone again though ! Good luck

WHATS THE PROBLEM ??????THANKS .
Man, haven't been on the DINC forums for a while, but I'm waiting on parts for my iPhone, so back to the Incredible I go
Just happened to see this.
If you're able to get it to HBOOT, and it seems you have, I'd flash the stock Gingerbread image straight from the SD card.
You can get that here: Stock Images
I'd go for the third link labeled The PB31IMG Version. Download it and rename it exaclty "PB31IMG" without the quotes and make sure it is just a .zip file so it is "PB31IMG.zip" and place it on your SD card not in any folders. Also the SD card must be formatted as FAT 32.
All of that is detailed HERE.
Then go back into HBOOT (Volume + Power Down) and wait for it to recognize the file, then press Vol + Up to accept and it should be good to go.
