Hey,
I don't know if Google is trying to be funny or something but i find it VERY irritating and stupid that THE WHOLE OS is Cyan (or Blue) and Black ... EVERYTHING... the main icons of phone, people app, notification bar and even the glowing effect of over scroll... except ONE thing, the Messaging app.. GREEN AND WHITE..!!! And not only that, their Flagship device has Super AMOLED screen and there is no DARK theme inside the app settings!! Seriously, Google?
Anyway, i'm done raging now is there a way to change the messaging app icon? (i don't like using third party apps) i want it to be ANYTHING that is similar in color to the Phone app ...
and to take this maybe a step further, is there a way to re-theme the app itself to something DARK with a lot of blacks rather than whites? (i'm not a Dev so i'm just asking, don't flame at me if it's impossible, i dunno)
Aaaaaan that's it, thanks for reading

As a graphic designer I was wondering about the exact same issue.
ICS is a big advance in terms of design, but there are a few big "mistakes" designwise imho. It's not only the Messaging icon, it's the whole messaging app, I agree with you. Colorwise it's absolutely the opposite of what it should be... same thing with the People app, way too bright to fit the whole theme of the OS. Should be themed in the same way like the call log and the contacts tap in the dialer.
I don't understand who had the idea to design the calendar, sms and contact app in a completely different design. Fortunately I'm not the only who is unhappy with this.
Hopefully the next update brings us a consistent ui.

i really like the sms layout,

maybe some easy way :=)
just another color for the yellow bubble.. and i'd be the luckiest person on earth (for a while 4sure)
greets
I at one point had a theme on my Cliq that had blue instead of yellow...I am sure it can be done, but how easily is another matter. Hopefully we will see more themes down the road.
thanks for the response and the info :=)
will keep my eyes open :=) (new to motorola :=))
best regards,

Hi, try the App Handcent SMS.
It's fully customizable and has many more options, far superior to the standard app.

handcent app
thanks for the post on the handcent app brilliant mate been looking for something like this for weeks just the job
I was wanting to setup a whole screen with a grid of "favorite contacts" so that I don't have to search for them each time I want to call/text.. I use the Launcher Pro contact grid right now, but I was thinking the Transparent look would be nicer since I like my wallpaper. Something like the transparent widgets app that's out there, but for contacts instead of a news feed, calendar, or clock...anybody got any ideas or know if there's something out there already?
This would be cool!!!!
Search in the themes section and you will find multiple skinned versions of launcher pro. Some with transparent contact widget backgrounds. I would post a link but I'm using the mobile app.

The themes section on where? In the XDA forums or is there an actual theme download for launcher pro through the app or somethin?
Sounds cool... Would also like to see this!!!
Inversion Conversion
if you don't find what you're looking for - (something that's already been created), a good place to post to see if someone wants to take it on is here. The honcho over there "The Bowers" is awesome with this stuff:
Team Inversion Conversion (Transparent Apps thread)
Btw, not all of the current apps that they've modded will flash nicely with our phones-- since most of them are using droids. If testing them out, I usually adb push them to my phone (backing up first, of course).
Hey All,
Just wanted to see if anyone had heard of or could create a theme where all the apps / widgets and such were transparent?
Any info would be appreciated and if someone could make one, I would definitely buy them a beer or 2
Thanks.
Avi
I second that!

They can make all the system apps transparent, but not 3rd party apps from the market, there are just too many to handle apps for each person.

This is right.. there is no way to make every market app transparent without doing it one by one.. but for just the basic stuff dreamsforgotten has a pretty clear theme called crystallized I think. You might wanna put in some requests for your most used apps... or they might be floating around some forums somewhere.
cd's or tapes?
There is a thread in the Android Hacking and Development forum that has a huge list of transparent apps. You can go to that forum and just do a search for transparent in the advanced search. I am running some of them now on my Epic and am liking it. It would be cool though to have all the proprietary phone screens and apps transparent too without any frills. For example, the Syndicate Frozen 1.02 (or substitute your favorite ROM here) with all the in phone stuff (non downloaded apps) transparent.
Again, if anyone could do that, it would be awesome.
Thanks.

Ahhh, well. No big deal. I won't complain.
I transparented as much as possible in a theme called froyo window. I even did the background for the system menus like in settings but realized how impractacle it was. The black background that I cleared also hid the status bar when you open apps such as camera, basically anything you opened the status bar was still there but since it was in the "background" you can't access it. If anyone wants to take that theme and play some more with it feel free. I never updated it past di18 but it wouldn't be hard to copy the framework values over to ec05. I'm not volunteering my time to it so don't take it that way lol.
Various Mms themes I've gotten requests for. All my themes will be going in here from now on.
Code:
[B][U]Changelog:[/U][/B]
update 2/23/12:
-fixed background for new text messages being white on white.
-fixed new text recipient being invisible when typing.
-fixed text message count being hard to read
update 2/15/12:
-added no contact pictures version of black/blue theme
update 2/14/12:
-added dark version
update:1/30/12:
-fixed FC while searching messages
update 1-29-12:
-landscape mode now allows for scrolling through previous texts (woot!)
update 1/28/12:
-resolved the landscape resolution issues
-changed to light gray background on thread list for clarity
-mms confirmed working both sending and receiving
-link color in threaded conversation changed for clarity

Hey thanks for doing that for me. It looks a lot different then I was picturing in my mind lol. They don't look like bubbles anymore. Don't want to be a bother but I have no idea how to theme or anything anyway you can make it more of a grey background? And have the conversation list just plain white without that design?

lol yeah, i'm afraid true bubbles (ala iphone) would require a complete rewrite due to the way google coded the backgrounds as attached to each text message foreground instead of having one single background. I'll see what i can do- shouldn't take long (I'm bored at work lol)

The way your other one was was great with that little indent going into the pic. Or maybe a white background with a light grey incoming and light blue outgoing. Similar to the imessage bubble colors on iOS. And if you could do the stock green icon too. Haha again sorry to be a bother

That little indent comes from contacts or google plus having sync on (i think). I did update the OP with something a little more tame lol (gray main screen background and white conversation background)

Yeah these 2 look tacky (maybe not the right word) in my eyes compared to your other post with the colors. No offense please maybe its just in my mind. And obv not complaining over your hard work. Last request I promise, but do you by chance have the stock mms apk with stock icon? Figure this would be the easiest request. I'm running nitroz's black exodus and just hate the all black mms

You can extract it from any rom you need. Download, unzip, and it's in /system/app/mms.apk.
ps. and don't worry about it- I suck at aesthetics. Was it just the texture you like about the other?
No idea how to do that. And I don't have a working computer right now

Dreaded FC is now fixed!
I really love your mod!
Is it possible to make one without the text shadow and where the bubbles touch each other (like in stock MMS.apk)?

Sure, no problem-I'll throw it together when I get back to my laptop tomorrow morning and post as an alternative. If like to add a black and blue version as well if time allows in the morning.

OP updated with alternate version.
I have been searching the forums for an icon pack that is just plain bright white and compatible with CM9 or AOKP(although I really don't know that compatibility is an issue with icons, maybe someone can correct me there) and am not finding anything.
I'm really not looking for anything too fancy, just basic icons that are a bright white instead of the stock icons, similar to what you see in the Black Infinitum theme menus. I'm not really looking for much, just standard apps (gmail, calendar, messaging, phone, play, contacts, email, camera, maps, navigation, calculator, browser, voice) and maybe a few others of the really popular apps (facebook, dropbox, scorecenter, etc...)
If anyone could point me to icons that would work I would appreciate it, if there are none if a dev could take it on I would also appreciate it very much.
Thanks!

You can buy droidicon on the market for $5. It has a number of icon packs available in a number of colors and styles. It was previously called launcher pro icons and docks and meant for lpp, but you can use them on any launcher that you can change icons on. You will have to edit them yourself though, you can't install them as a theme or pack. You download the icons one by one from a list. I use the white icons on it for aokp with nova launcher, pics for the doc and text for the nav bar, they look really good. I would post screenies but I'm running miui.us atm. Hope I could help tho.

I used that for awhile... some of the icons are pretty generic, but the custimazation options are limitless, which more than makes up for it...
I really like that! I am going to give it a shot.
[EDIT] So I installed it and REALLY like these icons. They are pretty run of the mill designwise, but I wasn't looking for anything too off the wall anyway. What a great find, thank you!
