Hi there.
As per the title says, how do I actually check what md5 sum i am using? I am aware that different ROM requires a different md5 but am not sure what is this actually for.
If i found that my current md5 is not the matching one, I flash it through using CWM right?
Thanks.
md5 sum is a method to check that a file has been downloaded correctly; each file has a calculated md5 value provided by the person supplying the file, you can then calculate the md5 for the file you received, and if they match you know the file is correct. That's a pretty shoddy explanation, but you can get a better one by googling or on Wikipedia.
Long story short, it's not something that you use or flash as part of your ROM.
//sent from my Desire HD using Tapatalk; all errors entirely intentional.
LOL! okok now i got it. sorry that I am not "fluent" in this area. asking such a dumb question. xD
Thanks man!
Click the link in my sig and head to tools. There is an MD5 generator/checker there. Very quick & simple to use.
hey everybody
how do i can check md5 through better terminal in DHD ?
Ive been having problems flashing ARHD succesfully, ive done a superwipe several times and retried and Cant think of anything else I may be doing wrong, so I figure the MD5 Sum is wrong or something? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
It's also probably easier to know that Most graphical file manager applications such as ES file explorer (free) and root explorer, have an md5 option within file properties
Swyped from my Desire S using XDA Premium
also, if you download directly to your device there is a free app on the market called "MD5CHECKER" which works well.
always check before flashing!

have you been able to flash other roms ok? or is this your first flash?
You know when you type a huge response... only to post it in the wrong thread >_>
Well, the info in here was useful anyway =)
Hey guys,
So I have a Droid Incredible 2, and I, like many others, was super excited to get my hands on the 2.1.6 ROM. However, I've tried flashing it every way I can possibly think of, and I always get the same error:
"assert failed: getprop ("ro.product.device") == "vivo"... etc
E:Error in /sdcard/downloaded_rom_miuiandriod... etc
(Status 7)
Installation aborted"
What is going on?! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance
*Actually, I just tried to flash the cyanogenmod rom as well, and I am getting the same error. I've done a factory reset/wipe, re-flashed clockwork mod, and re-installed rom manager and I am still getting the same error.

Sorry, I meant the Incredible 2... However, I thought the Incredible 2 and the Incredible S were basically the same thing?
If you're on the inc 2 that is not a inc 2 rom an will not work.

They are basically the same.. but we're Verizon'd (duh da duuuuuuhhhh) que any evil music theme you can think of. There are some slight differences that seperate the 2. If you have an incredible 2 it will say vivo_w. If you have an s its just vivo

Great, thank you!
However, I am still having this same problem when I try to flash ANY rom, not just one that is not compatible with my phone...
The backup/restore features of clockwork mod work fine, but whenever I go to flash a new rom, I get the same error message listed above. Anyone know what is wrong and how to fix this issue?

Alright, so I have compared the md5sums of my current rom and a miui rom for the incredible 2, and the result is that they are not the same.
What is the next step? Also if anyone wouldn't mind, can you tell me why I have never had this problem before downloading and flashing any roms before, and now it is suddenly an issue after i flashed a CM7 rom?
Thank you for the help.
The cksums will be for the rom you download, each download has it's own.If you want MIUI use 12.9 its the most stable with everything working it's the one I am running with areoevans .7 BFS kernel.
You may wanna try going to mounts and storage, and then wipe system before flashing.

Yes and no. It obviously wipes, but that's the only similarity. Where factory reset hits data and cache, it doesn't wipe anything in the system folder. That can help most of the time.
Try going here and getting 1.11.25 which is the one I've had the best of luck with. Check md5sum before flashing and make sure uiu wipe everything like stated before.
Might wanna try 4EXT recovery touch, as it has a built in superwipe option that literally wipes everything but your SD card.

Ok, I will certainly do all that is suggested above, and post the results.
Question though: I've scoured google, and I can't find the answer.. When I check the md5sum, I have an app for such a purpose, but it requires two md5's so it can compare them... I use the MIUI rom for one of them, and what about for the other?
******
I flashed the MIUI rom suggested above (thanks tylerlawhon) and it worked perfectly !
I would still like some answers to a couple things though if anyone wouldn't mind helping me out...
How do you check the md5sums using an android, and what was the initial cause of my problem, which I had never experienced previously when flashing roms?
Thank you for the help!

For me, I find what ROM I wanna use, go to this link, and download it from there and they give you the md5 for each file. Copy/paste that into one box and find the file with the app and use the sum they give you from that, and hit compare.

Oookayy, so if I am understanding you correctly, then to flash a rom, both the current rom and the one you want to flash have to have matching md5's?

No, look for the version of MIUI you're wanting to flash in the list on the site I linked to, copy the md5 of that version, paste that into the first box, using the "md5 from a file (or whatever it says)" find your file you downloaded before (or download the one from the site if you don't have the zip yet), when it gives the sum, hit compare and if they match up you're good to flash.
If they don't match, redownload the file. Try another mirror..

Hey, I hate to start this up again, but I'm checking my md5sums, wiping everything, and I'm still getting the same error I first posted on any ROM I try to flash; even past ones that have flashed successfully. Does anyone know what's going on or how I can fix it?
Thanks!

Alright, so I was trying to use the RUU_Marvel_Virgin_Mobile_1.37.351.1_Radio_47.10.35.3029H_7.46.35.08_release_188032_signed.exe RUU that is in the sticky in the development section.
Now I have three vibrates. I have read that there is a way using the .zip file, but I cannot find one. Does anyone have such a file or know an alternate way to fix it?
Maybe this thread will help you understand what I mean: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1128733.
The fix is 3 or 4 posts down in this thread. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=21119377

Using the method that is in that thread, I only receive three vibrations still. I reformatted my SD card and placed the .zip file on there.

Thank you! I have no clue why my file isn't working. I've downloaded it several times and I reformatted two MicroSD cards (a 32GB and a 2GB).
All it does is vibrate three times and then that's all. I tried to follow the directions anyway (wait 5 minutes, Vol Up x1, wait another 10 Vol Up x1) but it didn't work...
Thank you for looking! I hope you find something.

Yes, I am certain. I got it from http://www.filefactory.com/f/7b4aa0a541dcf00f/.
That was a GSM ruu. Ill talk to my partner of providing a entire zip. Could be that when I broke the signature it prevented hboot flashing it. Or could just be the radio screwing away everything. If the new zip doesn't work when I post it I'd say you need to call VM and get a replacement

Would it be covered under warranty? Would they be able to tell that I previously was unlocked and had CM7 and CWM?
Thank you, though!
Nah they wouldn't know after what you did. Your partitions, blank. Just be sure to say that you accepted the update that you've been ignoring since November, and that happened. Nothing more. If they try to help, let them

I was just thinking and I had an idea...
What if someone ran the HTC Dev RUU for VMU Marvelc and took the rom.zip, renamed it to PG76IMG.zip and then I were to flash it? Would that work?
Obviously I couldn't do it so I would need a little help, but would it work?
Um it would restore hboot. Can you see if you can comect to your phone with a com port.? If not you need whole thing, as the radio is wrong even
You can see if it will vibe 5 tines though

Oh, I thought that the Radio and HBOOT were in the same zip image now. I cannot connect it to my computer (which is why I'm using a MicroSD->SD adapter.)
The download is too small for that. You can try though

Alright, so I contacted RadioShack (that's who I have my warranty with) and I setup a claim. I had flashed CM7 and CWM will they be able to see that those are on there?
Also, will they know that I had previously unlocked (I doubt it; the RUU failed at "Waiting for bootloader")
According to everyone I've talked to from RadioShack, just installing the FOTA and then having it not turn on is covered so that is the claim I am using.

It's something like a CRC checksum, it checks the filesum to determine if the file is corrupted. When there is a mismatch, chances are your file is corrupted and you need to dl again. Especially useful for large files or multi-zip archives
is it worth downloading?
Yes because you can see if the files corrupt or been tampered with

Hey so I'm trying to convert the FTF file to a flashable zip using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849867 but once I go through the command prompt all seems to have gone well but I can find the system folder. Another method is to take a backup using CWM recovery and then use the system.ext4 file created during backup.
Just unzip it, it will give you the complete data under /system.
This file is found under clockworkmod folder in the external sd card.
